now at noon -- increased police presence at nearly a dozen north bay schools. the threat posted to social media. oakland raiders now being wooed by officials from san antonio, texas. the offer to lure the silver and black away from california. plus, exciting news for skiers and snowboarders as the first ski resort in california opens for the season. good afternoon. i'm tore tore. we begin with -- tori campbell.

breaking news in san jose, crews trying to cap a gas leak that is causing evacuations downtown. it started about an hour ago near south market street and west santa clara and we're told those streets are shut down. san jose fire tells us that people working at the 1 south market building which is a 23- story highrise that is under construction evacuated on their own. pg&e says a third-party contractor hit the gas line. if we get any more information on this gas leak during this newscast we'll bring it to you and of course full updates on our web page and facebook. meanwhile, there was a heavy -- there's been a heavy police presence at all novato schools today after someone posted a threatening message on a social media sight. alex savidge with pow everyone is responding. >> reporter: they are taking the threat seriously. i'm told half the students at novato high school have gone home for the day. this began with an on-line

message in which someone threatened violence against the high school in novato. you can see the result. police are not taking chances. they are stationed outside the school with patrol cars and officers ready to go. there are also extra officers patrolling all 11 schools here in this district today. late last night a parent alerted police to an on-line post up on a social media site. several students this morning told us that site is called "yickyak "and the post has since been removed. police say it was specific about the place and time for an attack. a report out said this was meant to be a shooting or shooting was threatened here. extra officers were called in to stand guard at various schools this morning and a lieutenant described what they are looking for. >> any sort of threatening behavior by a student or by a non-student. and trying to obviously discourage anything like that. the high number of police cars on the different sites of the

schools is one of the ways we're going to try to deter that sort of activity. >> reporter: the district alerted parents to the threat this morning with a message on its web site. there was also a tweet sent out as well. students tell me when they got to class today there was a sense of uneasiness amongst the staff but -- and many students tell me that is when they went home for the day. we talked with a senior who was picked up by her father during the middle of the morning. she thinks stepping up police presence at the schools is the right approach. >> i think it is because then if we had -- if we didn't have it imagine the kind of parents and -- we would all be uneasy and not sure of what is going on. i feel better knowing there's protection. >> i'm not saying this is a serious threat or anything but she doesn't feel 100% secure, it's fine with me if she studies at home today. >> novato detectives meantime reached out to a representative for that social media site

where this threat was initially seen. they are now working to identify the person who posted it on-line. and figure out their intentions while at the same time police continue to keep a close eye on all the campuses here in the novato school district and will continue to do so throughout the day today. live this afternoon in novato, alex savidge, ktvu news. a coalition of pedestrian and bike safety advocates gathered for a rally in san francisco today to remember those killed and injured on city streets. >> enough is enough. the time is now. >> enough is enough! >> the son of a 78-year-old woman killed in a crosswalk in september led the chant calling for the city to speed up efforts to protect pedestrians. organizers say that in recent weeks six people have lost their lives from traffic accidents. they placed empty shoes on the steps of city hall to represent the total number of lives lost this year.

>> behind me are 28 empty shoes. shoes that should be filled today. and more than these shoes there are people who have lost limbs, there are people who can no longer stand because of traffic injuries. >> the most recent death happened yesterday on lombard and van ness avenue. police say a 51-year-old woman was killed when struck by a golden gate transit bus. in hayward police are investigating a car crash that injured a bicyclist. according to witnesses the car was being driven recklessly. this happened around 10:00 a.m. near the hayward airport on his paraboulevard and sky west drive. the driver hit a jeep suv, a man on a bike and then crashed her honda accord into a wall. >> she's lucky she's alive and she's lucky she didn't kill anybody. she was driving crazy. >> he got clipped in the back. >> feeling lucky? >> i don't know. it happened this way so i'm

glad i didn't get hurt. >> the driver of the car responsible was treated for a minor injury. no word yet on if she'll be cited by police. they say it doesn't appear alcohol was involved. a san francisco computer programmer could get life in prison if he's convicted of relaunching a notorious black market web site. fbi agents say 26-year-old mark benthall made $400,000 a month running silk road 2.0, an underground web site that enabled drug dealers and users to connect. he's expected to return to court today to argue bail or agree to remain in custody and be transported to new york. he faces four felony charges related to operating the elicit web site which feds say handled at least $8 million in sales every month. investigators say they traced the site to benthall through a g-mail account. homicide detectives in san

francisco have taken over a case where a man was found shot to death and another man suffered life-threatening injuries. around 8:45 last night police found a man with gunshot wounds at willow and buchanan streets. he was rushed to the hospital in critical condition. then officers learned that another man had gone to the hospital earlier where he later died. police believe the two incidents are related but they are not saying why. could oakland's nfl team be on the move? city leaders from san antonio are meeting with top raiders officials today, in an attempt to lure the team to texas. former san antonio mayor henry cisneros is spearheading the effort. he happens to be an old friend of raiders owner mark davis. davis recently said he wants to build a new stadium at the current coliseum site but the san antonio group says their alamo dome is nfl ready. loyal raiders fans we spoke to today say the team should stay here. >> you ask 60 years of local

fans from oakland why would you change to it go to san antonio? to a place in texas, where they never had good luck with the raiders. there will be no fan support there. >> the raiders are in their final year of their lease at the coliseum. oakland and san antonio are not the only cities in their sights. the raiders are also considering a move back to los angeles next year. at 73 years old congressman mike honda is once again claiming victory. just a few hours ago the representative for district 17 spoke about looking forward to his eighth term in washington. ktvu's janine de la viga was there and joins us live. good afternoon. >> reporter: good afternoon. there are still tens of thousands of absentee ballots being counted at the county registrar's office but the congressman mike honda says with a 4% lead he's confident once they are all counted he will be the clear winner. >> reporter: honda was greeted by an enthusiastic crowd at campaign headquarters. his lead over his opponent has continued to grow since election day and the latest count shows around 4,000 votes separate them. honda thinks his supporters, the race between him and khanna has been contentious. honda has 30 years of public service, was backed by labor unions and democratic party and served numerous terms for this district which includes santa clara county and alameda county. khanna, 38 years old, a democrat, was backed by tech giants and his supporters viewed him as someone who could make changes in congress that honda couldn't. this is what honda told them at the news conference. >> this election could not be bought by superpacs and right- wing billionaires and millionaires. my opponent wasted more than $5 million for this campaign superpac to try to replace my progressive voice with someone who would do their own bidding.

although we were outspent 2-1 they were no match for the more than 10,000 people who funded my campaign. >> khanna has not conceded. 175,000 mail-in ballots still to be counted and his camp want to wait for the latest results. the results are expected to be in by 5:00 p.m. as the weekend approaches uc berkeley police are warning students to be careful. the security alert just issued in the wake of a string of alleged sexual assaults. it was a foggy start to the day but right now, live picture seeing mostly sunny skies. rosemary orozco will be here with 9 warm weekend forecast -- the warm weekend forecast. snow season is here for some resorts in the sierra.

a man is now in critical condition at a san francisco hospital after being shot by police. it happened just before 8:00 last night when three officers patrolling the patrero hill neighborhood spotted five men

they say were acting suspiciously. when the officers approached four of the men ran away but police say the one man who remained pulled out a gun and refused to drop it. forcing the officer to shoot. >> ordered the suspect to drop his firearm. the suspect actually advanced on the officer and that is when he discharged his firearm multiple times striking that suspect at one time in the upper body. >> police say the man who was shot had been involved in a drug-related case last month and had drugs on him last night. the four other men were detained and questioned by police. police chief greg surr is scheduled to hold a community meeting on the shooting monday night. there is a security alert from uc berkeley police about another alleged sexual assault at a fraternity. this is the fourth such alert by campus police in recent weeks. last month we reported similar accusations, some possibly involving date rape drugs. the most recent report came anonymously from a third party

who claimed there was an attack at a halloween party but didn't name the fraternity. police are investigating but have no victim at this time. a tense situation in san francisco's golden gate park this morning after some people tried to block city crews from working on the soccer fields. several people tried to block the entrances because they say the city's rec and park department is acting prematurely in replacing the field's natural grass with artificial turf. the protesters say the action precedes the final count to san francisco's proposition h and i. the latest vote total gives prop i which funds the renovations a 10% lead but some say until all those are counted they will keep coming back and even risk getting arrested. >> we have always advocated for keeping golden gate park natural. we don't want the stadium lights, incredibly damaging to the environment, to the birds, to the wildlife and to the people who come to the beach.

>> some residents, however, think that the field will benefit golden gate park. in a statement to ktvu san francisco's park and rec department says in part -- we will proceeds with a renovation that will allow thousands of kids to play sports in our city. not much snow or chilly- like conditions in the sierra but once again the boyle ski area is claiming to be the first resort to kick off the season once again. why did today have extra special significance for a golden moment? >> reporter: here it is. the moment so many have been itching for. as soon as possible. we're proud to do it today. >> reporter: to mark the occasion they rolled out not only the red carpet but the white carpet. today marks the 50th anniversary season there, a golden anniversary, commemorated with every 50th chair on the ski lift painted gold from the golden chair to the first run how was it? >> it was amazing. everything i could have ever dreamed of. snowboarding in california early november. boreal does it again. >> reporter: we only had one real snow in the last month so i had to ask them how they made this day happen. >> it's basically magic. >> it's basically magic, absolutely. >> reporter: well, that, and lot of snowmaking since last friday. with this snowmaking boreal says it's not a one-weekend stunt. they are planning to stay open seven days a week from now until the end of the season. at least that's the hope. in the sierra, ktvu channel 2

news. unfortunately no new magic at least for now. we have a warm-up for the weekend. this morning the headline is the fog. fairly widespread from areas around the bay, san francisco into oakland. there's a shot there of the golden gate. we had it at the toll plaza near the bay bridge and here into san jose you can see the fog as well. so fairly widespread this morning, visibility was a bit tough but here's what we have now, hazy sunshine in the forecast. and i think we'll have the sunshine with warmer weather on the way for your bay area weekend. if you turn to the satellite and radar you can see crossing the bridges around the bay you're still going to find some of that lingering fog, along the coastline as well. ocean beach, pacifica, halfmoon by a socked in pretty good. santa cruz mostly sunny skies and mild day for you. as we move back just a little bit i'll show you the ridge of high pressure right here. so that storm track will remain to the north of us for your

weekend, and temperature will be climbing for your weekend as well. we are looking at the ridge of high pressure holding on for not only through the weekend, perhaps the next several days. so unfortunately we're going to be dry in the extended forecast. that coming up in a moment. let's look at some of the numbers. it's going to be nice outside your door today. in areas like concord, already 70 degrees. 70 in novato. widespread 60s around the bay. san francisco that number not correct, mid to upper 60s as well. as we get into the second half of the day, over the north bay, low to mid-60s. santa rosa 75. 71 expected in richmond. heading to the east bay where we have temperatures in the 70s as well. 72 for san leandro. mid-70s for antioch. santa clara valley mostly sunny skies and 73 for san jose for the second half of the day as well as cupertino. along the penla, 71 palo alto. low 70s in redwood city.

mid-60s expected along the coast with partly cloudy to mostly cloudy skies. and 60s in san francisco. the extended forecast, with the bay area weekend always in view so temperature climbing as we get into the weekend. we'll probably wake up with patchy fog but not as widespread as this morning. then again into the extended forecast. no rain in sight. maybe thursday but so far out. heads up for drivers planning to cross the goldp gate bridge this weekend. starting tonight at 7:00 p.m. there will be rotating lane closures in both directions just north of the bridge. the closures are expected on and off until sunday morning and are expected to cause delays. during the closures work crews will be preparing for the installation of a movable median barrier on the bridge. that barrier is scheduled to be installed in january. thanksgiving is still a few weeks away. but already major retailers gearing up for the holiday

shopping season. we now know when toys "r" us plans to open its doors for black friday. and the delivery experiment being tested by on-line giant amazon.

stocks down slightly in afternoon trading after the dow and s&p 500 established new closing highs yesterday. the jobs report fell just short of expectations but still showed solid job growth for the

ninth consecutive month. oil prices are rising by the way. toys "r" us is now the latest retailer to announce it's opening time for black friday and this year the toy store plans to open 5:00 p.m. on thanksgiving. the store doesn't plan to close until friday night, meaning it will stay open for 30 straight hours until 11:00 p.m. the night of black friday. as we reported earlier this week if you prefer to get your shopping done before sitting down for turkey and stuffing k- mart plans to open at 6:00 a.m. on thanksgiving. if you place an order through amazon this holiday season it may be delivered by taxi. amazon is testing taxis in san francisco and los angeles for deliveries. this is amazon's latest experiment to speed package shipments. the company says it's looking for alternatives to u.p.s., fedex and the u.s. postal service after shipping delays

last christmas. thanksgiving as we mentioned now less than three weeks away and bay area nonprofits are busy preparing to help those in need during the holiday season. at sacred heart community service in san jose this morning hundreds of people began lining up to register for the organization's annual holiday food and toy distribution program. the charity plans to help 4,000 families for thanksgiving and 3,200 for christmas. >> my husband just got laid off of his job and we both -- he has cancer, i have lupus. >> it's cold out here but i just come and, to make the best of it for thanksgiving and christmas. >> sacred heart community service says even though the community has improved there continues to be a deep economic divide in the bay area. the nonprofit says that with skyrocketing rents, low income families are not able to keep up with bills and everyday demands. the most expensive home for sale in the entire country

right here in the golden state. this 53,000 square foot beverly hills megamansion is listed for $195 million. it sits on 25 acres and features 12 bedrooms, 23 bathrooms, vineyard and 27-car garage. the master suite alone is 5,000 square feet. the home is currently owned by a real estate mogul who has been renting it out for $475,000 a month. back now to breaking news in san jose where a gas line break is causing evacuations downtown. pg&e says a third-party contractor hit a line just after 11:00 a.m. at south market and west santa clara streets. i want to show you a live picture from the area. there is a highrise under construction on south market street but it's not clear if that building is the exact site of the gas leak. people in the area did evacuate on their own and we've been told no injuries were
