a two seat single engine plane never returned last night. the wreckage found this morning in remote santa clara county. tonight we know there were no survivors. good evening everyone i'm heather holmes. >> and i'm ken wayne. the plane crashed in a very rural area in gilroy. debora villalon has new developments where that flight originated. >> reporter: we're at the private airfield where the small cessna took off yesterday headed for watsonville it did not return and that's where the air patrol launched a search.

excessable only by foot or all terrain vehicle but the first rescuers to get there found no survivors. investigators will hone in on the scene next. this is the cessna that crashed owned by a 69-year-old man. the plane has long been out of production. at the home of the registered owner a relative who opened the door declined to comment about the accident. the air park where the plane is based is a private airfield. the airfield president said tonight it's too soon to talk about the crash. the command postremains staffed overnight and into tomorrow as the ntsb closed the scene.

tonight pictures from the sheriff department, and the efforts to volunteers to get up into the hills. reporting live in holster, debora villalon, ktvu news. we have new details on last night's multi car crash on the bay bridge that we brought you as breaking news. police say that the crash was caused by a wrong way driver. and that it led to major back ups on the bridge in both directions. authorities say morgan ultimately collided head on into another car and then sideswiped two other vehicles just east of treasure island. wrong way driving isn't all that unusual. >> unfortunately we do have wrong way drivers and usually it's alcohol involved. they're impaired and they don't realize what they're doing.

>> reporter: three people went to the hospital last night including morgan, one of them had major injuries. all lanes of traffic are back open tonight on the golden gate bridge after a weekend construction work. crews worked to prepare the span for a new center barrier to be installed. a spokeswoman for the bridge district told us that workers finished early this morning. we want to show you a live picture of the golden gate bridge. two lanes in both directions were closed for this work. we're told that caused some delays in the southbound direction. the bridge is set to close the weekends of january 5th and 11th so the crews could install the new barrier. tonight berkeley police are investigating the death of a man who was at that party near campus. police were called to the home of the 2700 block of bancroft way. the man was not a student and didn't live at the house. cristina rendon reports. >> reporter: it was a somber day for members of the the zeta

an islamic state siege. it's estimated the islamic state group is making multi million dollars profits from the illegal trade of oil produced in refineries that the group controls. the new report from the tsa revealed two loaded firearms were found inside carry on bags at san francisco airport last week. the tsa says those discoveries caused significant delays. firearms are allowed in checked baggage but not in carry on baggage and the airline must be notified ahead of time. passengers who's gun make it into their carry on may face arrests and fines as high as $7,500. the tsa has not said if any arrests or citations were made last week. a total of 40 firearms were discovered in carry-ons last week. a new survey shows gas

new at 10:00, if you've taken a good look at san francisco hall recently you may have noticed something different. you have to look to the top of the dome to see the problem. taller than the u.s. capital, the city hall dome is not just one of the architectural wonders of the bay area but of the nation. but this gem is looking tarnished. recent rains during the giant's world series celebration revealed some discoloration. streaks coming from right under

the gold leaf. city hall officials say they've noticed. >> it's not clear what it is and that's partly what we hope to find out with our study. >> reporter: a few days later we flew news chopper 2 and it's clear something is causing streaking on the dome. we came up here to the top of the city dome to try to find out what's causing this discoloration. but even looking up close it's hard to tell. >> given the number of materials that are up here. i can't say it's just the gold or just something else. >> reporter: 23-1/2 gold leaf. real gold covers the intricate exterior. the gold was added completed in 1989. >> nothing to be rolled out until we're able to visually inspect it real close. >> you would be surprised if it was actually gold leaf causing that discoloration. >> i would be surprised because it would be inconsistent with the rest of the gold leaf. >> it's not a liquid.

this is a solid metal. doesn't seem to me it would drip and drain. >> reporter: the gold is less than . .01 of an inch thick. he says he can't imagine how it could be the gold causing the discoloration. >> this gold leaf is 23-1/2 carat gold. it could itself possibly oxidize and drip something, i've not experienced that happening ever. but, that could be something that's happening. >> reporter: the only thing to get an up close inspection is to put scaffolding around the dome. but scaffolding is expensive upwards of $1 million for city hall. >> the best inspection we can do at the moment is from the ground. we have to take a closer look at it for now. and that's what we'll have to

>> they sounded just like they sound tuesdays at noon. that's when we test the system. >> reporter: not on 5:00 a.m. sunday, but all day crews tested the software and hardware at the management headquarters trying to pinpoint the problem and make sure san francisco doesn't have another rude awakening. >> we hope not. we hope not. >> reporter: in san francisco, noelle walker, ktvu channel 2 news. >> more people were venting about the unexpected wake up call. >> a young army veteran who survived a tour of duty in afghanistan was shot to death this morning following an argument in his hometown. police say that 22-year-old francisco garcia was leaving party at his girlfriend's home in los angeles when he was shot. witnesses say that the gunman got out of a car, yelled at garcia then went to another vehicle where he got a gun from a friend then started shooting.

police say garcia had returned from afghanistan this past summer. friends describe him as a big strong young man who was down to earth and outgoing. a vietnam veteran has been hon -- honors the medal he earned back in 1952. he served as a tail gunner on a bomber. he flew 25 missions counting 80 holes in his aircraft after one particularly harrowing trip. when the war ended he just wanted to get home and didn't think much about medals and now seven decades later he seems uncomfortable with all the attention. >> i owe it to my crew members. they didn't get their medal and they deserve it as much as i do. >> reporter: bailey's son say they're incredibly proud of their father and happy he's finally getting the recognition he deserves. new developments tonight from the nfl the players association is threatening to

we're wrapping up a fairly warm weekened. except today you probably noticed that stronger sea breeze developing and more fog developing coast side as well. having an impact on temperatures but still lots of 70s to report for your sunday afternoon. even a few low 80s. livermore topped out 84 degrees. pacifica 64 with patchy fog near by. here's the latest on the maps and no big changes out there. we do have the low cloud deck increasing. in fact, here's a closer look over the past few hours we've seen more of a northernly wind developing trying to push the fog to the south. this wind will be backing off over the next few hours and as a result that fog bank will
