apartment halloween night. his roommates say he didn't come home. another event is set for friday at 8:00 p.m. and a search sunday at 1:00 p.m. both in san francisco. we learned a grandfather and his granddaughter were killed in a plane crash in gilroy. the coroner identified the victims as a 69-year-old, john dennis and an 18-year-old. officials say the small plane took off from a private air field on saturday. the wreckage was found yesterday morning. the crash site is in a rural area accessible only by foot. the ntsb arrived today to begin investigating the cause. thousands of nurses at kaiser are preparing to walk off the job tomorrow as part of a 2 day strike. 18,000 nurses are expected to strike throughout northern california.

kaiser said it hired replacement nurses and it will be open for business tomorrow and wednesday. >> we have nurses that we have spent a tremendous amount of time making sure that they are well trained to be able to come in and provide care to our patients and to our members. >> the nurses who have been without a contract since july say they are striking because of concerns of standard and ebola safety parole call. managers say they are willing to do what it takes. two san francisco police officers went on trial today on corruption charges. they are accused of stealing money and other items during searches. ktvu's david stevenson with the allegations that were layed out on the first day of testimony. >> reporter: the officers stole marijuana and handed it over to informants for them to sell but the u.s. attorney say the use

of a gift card shows how far they went over the course of the investigation. >> reporter: federal prosecutors called it corruption with a badge. but the crimes committed by san francisco police officers first came to light in 2011 with the release of surveillance videos. residents claim officers conducted raids and stole items including computers, money and alcohol and never booked the items into evidence. he has now pleaded guilty to four felony charges in exchange for testimony against suspended offenses. >> the credibility will be the whole case. >> the most of the charges date back 5 years. the former girlfriend of a drug dealer testified the officers asked about her boyfriend's bank account and offered to split the money with her. they stole two apple gift cards

complete bay area news coverage continues right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 p.m. san francisco zoo opened to visitors this morning after the death of a gorilla. it was raised by zoo workers who bottle fedder and she had been -- fed her and she had been thriving. she was crushed by a hydraulic door. ktvu's ken wayne is live at the zoo. you just got new information from the zoo? >> reporter: we just got an update from officials. after the gorilla was crushed it was taken to the hospital and then the body was taken back to the zoo so the other animals could look that dead

a slemoving -- slow moving flow of lava destroyed a home

today in hawaii. today a finger of lava broke free and pushed into a home. the people living there already evacuated and the home burned quickly. lava has been oozing and burning its way towards the town since june. what started as a day hike turned into a all night ordeal for a group from pasadena. the helicopter pulled 15 people to safety this morning. they ranged from 14 to 36. they started off yesterday and the group was well equipped and plans to rappel down a water fall but they lost track of time. they got wet. they got cold. it got dark and they hunkered down. they were scared and because they were scared they called 911. >> rescuers reached reached the
