serious. the city manager and a counsel woman are on they way to the hospital to check on the officer. dave cortese called sam liccardo to concede the race. he has 51% of the vote, compared to forty nine%. dave cortese released a statement thanks supporters. he added there has been some speculation about the handle of ballots. i have full faith in the abilities of the reg star of voters -- registrar of voters. grandfather and his granddaughter were killed in a small plane crash in gilroy. authorities say the small plane took off from a private air

field saturday. it was found yesterday morning. the plane crashed in a rural area that is accessible by foot or all terrain vehicles. home is supposed to be the place where we feel the most safe but this morning that sense of safety was shattered. a man posing as ushered strong armed his -- as sheriff's deputy strong armed his way into home. ktvu's noelle walker says home invasions are almost exclusively tied to drugs. >> reporter: this home is off the beaten path but this morning it was the site of a home invasion robbery. >> he was awakened. >> reporter: someone outside claiming to be from the sheriff's office. >> held a flash light in their hand and pushed the guy up

against his car. >> it happened over there. >> reporter: a neighbor is the residents potentially in harm's way. >> it is very frequent that home invasions involve drugs. and that can be a neighborhood problem. >> it could be dangerous. >> reporter: the sheriff's department is seeing it more often. >> they are vulnerable because people know where there is american, there is money -- marijuana, there is money, there is guns. >> reporter: in this case the suspect sped away at 90 miles per hour through residential streets where the speed limit is 35. at a sharp turn he lost control and hit this tree leaving car

opened fire. the victim was shot once. he is expected to survive. the meeting is 6:30 p.m. tonight at the neighborhood house. a man was found dead at fraternity house at university of california at berkeley yesterday afternoon. ktvu's cristina rendon joins us now in berkeley with more on the young victim. >> reporter: the family asked for their privacy today as tase mourn the loss of their -- as they mourning the loss of their son. >> reporter: photos are appearing across social media. friends sharing memories of the young man who could light up a room. >> he -- just the craziest guy. i don't know. tough to put into words. everyone loved him. >> reporter: saturday night

they attended a party at the fraternity near university of california at berkeley. they were shocked to hear about his death the next day. he was found unresponsive inside the fraternity house sunday afternoon. police are calling his death suspicious and investigate figure drugs or alcohol played a factor. another friend spoke to us by phone. >> i don't know. right now i can't believe -- i can't believe that he is gone and i will never see him again. it is just -- i am really in disbelief. devastated. >> reporter: she went to high school with him and says he was their class president. >> he gave one of the nicest graduations speeches. >> he was from antioch and enrolled at uc davis. >> so well rounded. he was a people person. he had such a great sense of humor. >> reporter: his death is a reminder of how precious life

is. >> heart breaking that this happened. >> reporter: and the fraternity extended their cull doneerances to the family -- condolences to the family. police have been called here twice last month for disturbing the peace. >> all right. such a sad story. thank you. the san francisco zoo is releasing new details on the death of a 16-month-old gorilla. the zoo says the gorilla was killed when she darted under a hydraulic door friday night. today the zoo said it brought the body back to the gorilla enclosure so the other gorillas could see her as they happen in the wild -- as they would in the wild. they have been comforting the gorilla's grandmother. zoo visitors were also mourning

kaiser hospital in northern california are bracing for a two day nurse's strike that begins tomorrow. 18,000 nurses are are expected to walk off the job. kaiser is in contract negotiations with the rns. officials say it is part of concerns over patient care standards. kaiser says it will remain open although some elective surgeries may be rescheduled.

new report gave good marks to three hospitals. the report finds that marine general, novato community and visor were all rank -- kaiser were all ranked above average in clinical safety. they were among 25 hospitals around the country aboving an observe average great. covered california lacks maternity care they offered standard quality care. however they say the plan fails to address the needs of women who have the highest risk due to their economic status. today the director of covered california responded to the report. >> it provides benefit coverage, national standards. california has great benefits for people, including maternity care. >> covered california is

the 49ers, what a game yesterday. they needed that win too. >> yeah. if you think about it, this early, 9 games into this season. but as close to a must victory as you could get for the 49ers and they pulled it out. entertaining. it is all about the rookies filling in for patrick willis. this guy, number 50, rookie out of wisconsin, is like a magnet to the football. he was all over the place. in the two games he has last played for the 49ers, get this, 39 total tackles. he is a tackling machine and they say he was too short, doesn't matter. he gets it. incheweding that recovery of what -- including that recovery of what led to the game winning field goal. >> fun to watch. he is doing a great job. he has a sense for the ball.
