of kaiser hospitals and clinics going on strike today. we'll tell you what they are fighting for. and also a possible break in the case of a san francisco software engineer who has been missing for more than a week. "mornings on 2" begins right now. at this hour, thousands of kaiser nurses across california are walking off the job and picking up one of those picket signs beginning a two-day strike. this is a live look at the kaiser hospital in san francisco. ktvu's tara moriarty has been traveling across the bay area following this story. coming up, she will explain what the labor dispute is about and if it will affect kaiser's operation. good morning. welcome to "mornings on 2." it's tuesday, november 11th. sa lawsuit to all of the veterans out -- salute to all of the veterans out there today

on veterans day. i'm dave clark. let's talk about your weather and traffic. steve paulson is here and you are saying it probably won't feel like a day on the beach. >> no. no clouds, high clouds. beautiful sunrise. we're waiting for a system to come in. it won't be here until late tomorrow night, more likely on thursday. temperatures coming down. we get the onshore breeze. nothing outrageous, but partly cloudy, patchy low clouds and higher clouds. a partly sunny day. cooler pattern. you can see there's plenty of low clouds coming over us right now. we're waiting for the system which is still 36 hours away. 57 novato. 57 walnut creek, san francisco, half moon bay. temperatures even pittsburg and brentwood, cooler. la fayette, 56. everyone is pretty close. an okay breeze. not outrageous but it's picked up. the system here will give us

about .10.15 on thursday. it looks good. maybe next week a couple of wetter models. the forecast models are not in sync. we'll deal with that monday. today, partly cloudy, morning drizzle. 60s on the temperatures. yesterday was a tough, tough day with all of the fog. but it's lifted. we're okay there. how's the traffic. well, it's noticeably better, steve, on this veterans day. it's still taking 18 minutes to drive on the eastshore freeway from the carquinez bridge to the mauz. it's up one minute, 19. still sometimes we see 30, 40- minute commutes. it's a bit better than normal. you will see that traffic is lighter. it is definitely on the lighter side. some government offices, in fact, most and some banks, some businesses are closed to honor veterans on this veterans day. as we move over to the commute in marin county, southbound 101, traffic looks good from novato to san rafael. we move to the east bay, even

580 which by now is usually showing us a lot of slowing in livermore and pleasanton. it's actually doing very well. 7:03. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. and happening right now, thousands of kaiser nurses are officially on strike across the bay area. tara moriarty is live in san francisco to tell us more about their concerns. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. the top of the list is staffing. they say that's the main sticking point at the bargaining table. that's what they really hope to resolve. we just watched a bunch of nurses walk out of the clinic here. medical facility on the corner of gearry -- geary. they are getting read why y to start the strike. there's signs, a bullhorn. nurses says kaiser has not been negotiating fairly since the summer when contract talks began. kaiser says 56 of the hospitals and clinics in northern california will be affected today and tomorrow. officials say operations will

continue as normal because they have hired replacement nurses. nurses say that they are striking because they are concerned about patient care, staffing levels and how to treat ebola patients. >> our hospitals are short staffed. they are calling us daily for extra staffs, to stay later. the increase of obamacare we've increased. we're called daily for overtime and extra shifts. we want the patients taken care of appropriately. >> reporter: nonemergency surgeries and appointments have been canceled but kaiser has notified the patients affected. tomorrow national ebola awareness day kicks off and nurses will be striking. mum -- coming up in an hour, we'll talk about officials about what their side of the story is when this comes to the

strike and how it could affect patient care. live from san francisco, i'm tara moriarty, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 7:05. a 4-year-old boy is being treated for very serious injuries. he fell more than 200 feet down a sonoma county cliff. it happened yesterday afternoon where little sebastian johnson was hiking with his family at the bodega head in bodega bay. christien kafton is joining us live at oakland's children hospital where his father says his son will be treated for his injuries. good morning. >> reporter: good morning. we've checked in with hospital staff to find out if, in fact, sebastian johnson is here. they said they cannot comment officially. as you said that boy survived that fall down a 240-foot cliff. his father said he had a broken arm, a broken leg and injuries to his face and his father recalled for us in an interview last night about the moments leading up to the boy's terrible fall down the cliff. >> he's not afraid of anything. i think when he was -- he had

no fear of ledges. i think when the mom picked up a rock, she turned arounder was sliding down. >> reporter: everyone's nightmare. this unfolded as the family was hiking in the area. his mother called 911. crews arrived and had to rappel down the cliff to reach the boy crying and conscious when rescuers reached him. rescue workers were not able to fly a rescue helicopter because of toking go -- because of foggy conditions. he was taken to a hospital by ambulance. park workers say the area can be dangerous for hikers. >> we don't have any guardrails up here at bodega head. exercise good judgment. make sure you are watching your small children and make sure that you stay away from the cliffside edge. >> reporter: we are on the scene here at children's hospital oakland hoping to

catch up with sebastian johnson, his family, perhaps some of the medical staff taking care of him. we'll try to get in contact with his family to find out how he's doing. christien kafton, ktvu channel 2 news. >> there may be a new break in the case of a san francisco software engineer who has been missing for more than a week. 26-year-old dan ha disappeared on halloween after leaving his south of market apartment about 8:00 at night. his parents and brothers have come to the bay area to search for him alongside his friends, coworkers and police investigators. now police say a grocery store in the south of market area has surveillance video that shows someone who could be ha. >> if dan hears this message, all we want him to know is that we're looking for you. we're hoping that you are safe. >> reporter: ha is described as a good son and worker. he has a history of suffering

from migraine headaches and called work the day he disappeared saying he had one of his headaches and would not be in. his family plans to hold a prayer vigil tomorrow night. the city of san jose finally has a new mayor, one week after election day. city councilman sam liccardo is the winner. 51% of the vote. county supervisor dave cortese had 49%. the difference between them, just 3500 votes. san jose's new mayor had a big smile on his face last night as he walked into a community mater. liccardo had just received a phone call from cortese who conceded earlier. liccardo hopes to meet with union leaders who did not support his campaign, that includes members of the police officers association. >> it's not going to be a situation where we'll be able to hug it out the first week. i know that. we have a lot of work to do going ahead. >> the police union strongly opposed liccardo who vowed to keep fighting for voter

approved pension reforms in san jose. another bay area mayor's race is still up in the air and the difference between the two candidates, just 127 votes. here are the latest numbers in the mayor's race in alameda. challenger spencer has the slim 127-vote lead over the incumbent marie gilmore. now, the county registrar of voters still needs to count 14,000 mail-in ballots. won't be any counting today because it is veterans day and it's a holiday. we could possibly know the outcome tomorrow. it is 7:10. california senator dianne feinstein says she needs to talk to san francisco ed lee before deciding if she will endorse his re-election bid. mayor lee announced he will run for re-election next november. according to the chronicle, feinstein says she has concerns about the direction of san francisco. she's worried about the city

focusing too much on high tech and losing the neighborhoods and is opposed to the legislation lee signed to abu air bnb style short-term rent ams. feinstein was mayor from 1978 to 1988. happening right now, a tribute to veterans of world war ii in washington, d.c. this is a live picture from the nation's capital, the veterans day ceremony is just go getting underway. world war ii vets will lay wreaths at the freedom wall in remembrance of the more than 400,000 americans who lost their lives in that war. and going to london now, look at this stunning tribute to the 888,246 british and colonial soldiers who all died in world war i. those are hand- crafted ceramic poppies surrounding the tower of london. this is only a temporary exhibit. each poppy has been sold for about $40 each to benefit

timp. police -- fraternity. police were called when vaibhev loomba was found unconscious. he garage wait a minuted in la fayette -- he garage waited in la fayette in 2012 and recent -- recently enrolled in college. we're getting new details. robin williams was recently suffering from a condition connected to parkinson's. it leads to severe hallucinations. his wife said he had been complaining about medications he was taking and the way they made him feel. a source close to the family tells tmz believes the disease was the key factor that drove him to take his life. when most people see a shark, they get out of the water as fast as possible. but two men in southern california did just the

opposite. and jumped right in. four men were spearfishing yesterday off the coast of santa barbara when they saw, look at it, a hammerhead shark. one man turned on a camera. put bait in the water to draw closer and he and his friend popped in. >> only when we popped in the water was it evident he was fired up. and he came straight in to the point where we were pulling our fins in and keeping our limbs close to our body. >> that would be a good idea. they say the shark became aggressive and they got back on the boat quickly. they say the thrill of the interacting with the shark was worth of risk. the director says it's unusual to see a hammerhead shark in the area. but more are coming up from baja because of a developing el nino. could manatees soon have a new home near the bay area? the mayor of stockton has proposed bringing the mammals from florida to help get rid of an invasive plant overrunning port of stockton. but experts say the water is in

stockton is too cold. manatees are also endangered, meaning they cannot be moved from the sunshine state and there are only 5,000 left in florida. kind of strange-looking creatures. >> when i lived in florida years ago, when he lived outside of my door. they were fascinating to watch. they just float. very gentle. amazing animals. >> different from the hammerhead shark. >> quite different, tori. hey, sal, you are watching the bridges as well as the roads this morning. >> we are seeing some slow traffic, dave and tori. but it's definitely lighter than usual on this veterans day. let's take a look at the commute on the san mateo bridge. something has happened on the span because it was moving along very well but now we have a lot of slow traffic and that is because of -- let's see. i'm reading it on the fly. i don't see anything on my list but something is happening on this bridge because it was just doing well and we will get to

the bottom of it. we'll figure it out. this is a look at the bay bridge by comparison. i mean, when does it look like that. well, on a holiday is when it looks like this. no problem. you might want to think about -- i can't believe i'm saying this -- use the bay bridge instead of the san mateo bridge as your alternate route. you look at the east bay. you can see traffic on 580 looks good. 680 looks good. 880 is slow getting into fremont. now let's go to steve in the weather center and the fog is not nearly a problem like it was yesterday. >> thank goodness. it was a big issue yesterday. it's lifted today. the bases have gone up, up, up. higher clouds. it will be a cooler day. it looks like a cooler rest of the week. any rain? yeah, thursday morning is looking promising. maybe sometime next week. there's no consensus on the timing but there's a consensus on a wetter system. 77 santa rosa. 80 in livermore. if you live in livermore, was your temperature 80? that was at the airport. 77 concord. san jose, 73.

if you are planning to head to the beach, be careful. the national weather service says there is there a growing danger of sneaker waves and rip currents through thursday afternoon. the waves are being generated by the big storm off alaska. the warning stretches from sonoma county down to monterey county. the first traces of radio activity from the 2011 fukushima disaster in japan have been detect ed off the northern california coast. scientists say slightly levels of radiation have been recorded about 100 miles off the coast of eureka. they say the levels are too low to pose a threat to human or marin life right now. scientists found similar levels of radioactivity last august off the coat of british columbia. we have new details about the investigation into the death of san francisco zoo's youngest gorilla. the zoo sent us this photo.

this is the gorilla family mourning the death of that gorilla. according to the examiner, they've hired an animal psychologist to help investigate what happened. machel is a uc davis grad, has redesigned gorilla enclosures at other zoos to make them safer. that gorilla was crushed on friday by an automatic door. the zoo said it was working properly but it's not clear if the door had an automatic shutoff sensor. people we talked to said that tragedy could have been prevented. i think it can be prevented. i feel like that's a mistake that should not have happened. >> sounds like it's negligence when the automatic doors were closing. they have to be more careful. >> well, for now, the zoo has banned all news cameras but we shot this photo with a cell phone of flowers left at a gorilla statue near the

along very well. in fact, uncharacteristically low. it's obvious that a lot of people have veterans day off. as a matter of fact, traffic continues to look good all the way up to downtown oakland. even on 580 and 880 and 238, we have a nice-looking commute. at the bay bridge toll plaza, boy, that's nice. you can see westbound traffic is moving along very nicely with no major problems. i want to check out that san mateo bridge. it looks like we may have had a stalled vehicle or something that was slow moving. but it cleared off and on this veterans day when traffic is lighter, it won't take long for this traffic to be completely back up to the speed. public transit systems are running on normal schedules. back to the desk. san francisco police are searching right now for the robbers who targeted three separate banks in san francisco in a 24-hour period. ktvu's brian flores live in san francisco now with the latest on how this investigation is going. brian? >> reporter: hi, dave.

good morning. we're live in front of one of the banks targeted. this is the wells fargo branch on the 3600 block of geary in san francisco. this bank along with two others were targeted by robbers on friday and saturday and police say they are looking at surveillance footage to gather more information on possible suspects. want to go to a map now. police say the first happened last friday night just before 7:00 p.m. at a wells fargo at la plata and then another robbery at the citibank on the 1800 block of van ness. the third happened just after 5:30 saturday afternoon right where we're standing at the wells fargo off geary here in san francisco. again, police say they are looking at surveillance footage. even though the robberies took place hours from each other, police say there are no incaders to suggest they are connected. we also don't know how much money the robbers took. in all three instances, a

robber would enter the bank, give the teller a demand note and the teller would hand over the cash. but in two of those instance, the robber would open up a jacket to display a gun and the teller would hand over the cash as well. in terms of suspect descriptions, police say two of the robbers were asian men in their 30s. one of the robbery suspects police describe as a young kay caution main in his 20s -- caucasian man in his 20s who wore glasses and a fake mustache. police are asking anyone with information to come forward. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:34. all around the bay area, sheriff's departments, prosecutors, public defenders, even judges scrambling to decide how many inmates have to be reeb leased because -- released because of the proposition that passed. under the proposition certain crimes including drug possession and thefts involving less than $950 are reduced from felonies to misdemeanors.

the new maximum sentence is one year in jail. that's down from three years. the state corrections department has notified 4800 inmates they can petition judges to have their felony convictions reduced. 7:34. san jose state university is investigating allegations that a high-ranking board member made offensive comments about latinos. janine de la vega joins us live from the campus with the controversial comment and how shuents and the -- students and how the university's president are responding. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning. well, the university received heavy criticism last year for not responding quickly when a black student was tormented by his white roommate. that situation ignited protests and now again this latest incident sparked students to hold a rally yesterday and these students are demanding change. students say a member and a donor of the tower foundation, a philanthropic organization of

the university, made offensive comments about latinos and their mental capacity in a meeting that took place in february. the mercury news reports the member allegedly told board members "i contribute to this university because these little latinos do not have the dna to be successful." that member is denying that statement was said. a form am complaint was filed with the university in august. an investigation has been ongoing. some students say they are used to to a slow response from the university. >> it's not very surprising at all. i think the university, we have a lot of problems here already. you knee, they are focus -- you know, they are focusing on other things. this is something we will need to take time and focus on to. >> reporter: students want the president removed and they want an apology. he released a statement saying we're sensitive to issues and tom rans in the wake of the racially motivated actions of

our students in the residence halls. i know some have been frustrated by a perceived lack of action since this incident occurred. we owe it to everyone to thoughtfully, and thoroughly determine what occurred before taking action. the university is taking a close look at the review of the complaint and they are still deciding what steps to take. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. 7:37. new this morning, president obama is opening two days of talks with the president of china in beijing. here's video of president obama there in china greeting members of the chinese president and also meeting with other staff members. they also met for tea and had a lot of discussions. the two leaders are meeting one on one after the apec summit. tomorrow, they will hold deeper conversations. in remarks today, president obama said when the u.s. and china are able to work together effectively, the whole world

teenager from chico, they are heading back to the united states after being detained by the russian government for several days. now, today's mercury news reports police from st. petersburg took them into custody. they were attending an international youth conference. russian authorities claim there was false information on their visas. yesterday a judge allowed them to leave russia after giving them a $100 fine for improper documentation. 7:39. today in the south bay, volunteers will be holding a care packing party for troops and soldiers overseas. operation care and comfort will be packing more than 500 care packages for both activity service members and veterans. the packages include clothing, food and hygiene products. local organizations raised 15,000 in cash and items for the care packages. since 2003, they've sent more

than 1 million pounds of care packages to troops. veterans and the military history of the presidio will be honored do urg a special service, the sound of bagpipes and bells will sound at 11:00 this morning at the presidio chapel. the event is free to the public. veterans day celebrations happening in the east bay also. the city of antioch will celebrate with the landing of a huey helicopter. that's at 9:30 this morning. it will be followed by a parade at 11:00. in brentwood, the city will hold a tribute at 10:30 this morning. there will be the firing of a civil war era cannon. that's at 11:00. marin county's veterans service officer shawn stevens will serve as the keynote speaker in san rafael. now, stevens served four tours of duty in afghanistan. now he's helping other veterans here in the bay area. that ceremony starts at 9:30 this morning at the marin

two san francisco police officers accused of stealing items during searches of residential hotels. the alleged crimes were discovered in 2011 after the release of surveillance video like this one. the two officers are accused of stealing laptops, money, and alcohol while conducting raids and never booking them into evidence. former sfpd officer vargas pled guilty to four felony charges. he's scheduled to testify against the other two. the attorneys for the two officers say vargas cut a deal with prosecutors in order to frame their clients. a pennsylvania man could face felony charges after he dumped his wife's sports car in a river. police received a call about the 1990 red corvette going into the water. divers had to go into the el cold murky water to make sure no one was trapped inside. after nearly an hour, they found the corvette, it was empty. the victim saw it on tv and

[chanting] >> fight back! >> reporter: negotiations broke down after dozens of proposals were rejected at the bargaining table. the talks have been going on since july. kaiser says 56 of the hospitals and clinics are affected. nurses say they are striking because they are concerned about patient care, staffing levels and how to treat ebola patients. >> with the influx of obamacare coming into effect, we need more staff because we have an increase of patient pochlation. 400,000 new members. we're not increasing the staffing. they are saying we're staffed appropriately. every day we come to work, we are short staffed and they are calling us at home to do doubles, stay longer. >> we try not to ask for doubles. there may be sometimes depending upon -- the patient needs vary in the hospital

injuries. >> reporter: yeah. boorling. we checked in with hospital staff to find out if sebastian johnson is here and they said officially they cannot comment. as you said, the 4-year-old survived a fall down a cliff. we understand from family members his injuries include a broken arm, broken leg and injuries to his face. we caught up to his father who relived the moments leading up to the fall. >> my father was reading a story to me. it was probably 300 feet away. they were up higher. i couldn't see them. they were taking too long and something didn't seem right. as soon as i ran up the hill, he just fell. >> reporter: every parents' nightmare. this unfolded yesterday afternoon. the family was hike hiking in the area. the boy's father called 911. crews arrived and had to rappel down the cliff base to reach sebastian who was crying and conscious when rescuers reached him. that was a good sign.

rescue workers were not able to fly a rescue helicopter in because of foggy conditions. instead, sebastian had to be taken to an area hospital by ambulance. the boy's father said sebastian fell while throwing rocks from the cliff down into the water below. >> he's not afraid of anything. i think when he was throwing -- he had no fear -- the longest i could tell him is back away. i think when the mom and them are being torn away. >> reporter: the good news, sebastian survives the fall. again, his injuries include a broken arm, broken leg, injuries to his face. this morning park officials are warning there's loose gravel and anybody who visits need to be careful when visiting that area. back to you. 8:09. there may be a new break in the case of a san francisco software engineer missing for more than a week.

san francisco. we look at contra costa county now. southbound 680 looks good from the benicia bridge and here is a well sign, livermore valley commute is wide open getting into dublin. back to the desk. thank you. san jose state university investigating allegations that a high-ranking board member made offensive comments about latinos. janine de la vega joining us live now from the campus with that controversial comment and how students as well as the university's president are responding. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. university officials have said that they want students and staff to speak up if they ever observe any racial intolerance. that was following the hate crime case that occurred last year on campus. but students say they are frustrated that they haven't seen any administrators take action in this latest case. students learned about these offensive comments they say were made in february by a member and donor of the tower

foundation board. a philanthropic organization of the university. students told the mercury news the member told board members "i contribute to this university because these little latinos do not have the dna to be successful." that member is denying the statement was said. a formal complaint was filed with the university in august and an investigation has been ongoing. students we spoke to were smorked to hear about the allegations -- were shocked to hear about the allegations. >> i think that remark is ridiculous. people of all backgrounds should be able to go to school regardless of what they look like. >> i think the university should take action on who chooses to have invest in the school. they should have more integrity. >> reporter: students want university president to remove the board member from the post. he did release a statement that says we're especially sense difference to issues of tolerance and civility in the

wake of racially motivated actions against the students in our residence halls in 2013. i know some have been frustrated by a perceived lack of action since this incident occurred. we owe it to everyone to determine what occurred before taking action. now we've reached out to the tower foundation earlier this morning. seeing if we could get a response. we've into the heard back from them. reporting live from san jose, janine de la vega, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police still busy searching for bank robbers who targeted three separate banks in san francisco within 24 hours. ktvu's brian flores live in san francisco with the very latest on the investigation. good morning, brian. >> reporter: good morning. we're live in front of the wells fargo bank branch on gearry here in san francisco. this bank was targeted by a robber on saturday. police are looking at surveillance camera footage to gather more information from suspects from this bank as well

as two others. want to go to a map where the robberies took place. police i say the first happened -- police say the first happened last friday at a wells fargo bank on the 800 block of la playa street in the outer richmond. saturday morning at 11:30, another robbery happened at the citibank on van ness. the third happened just after 5:30 saturday afternoon at the weles fargo off geary. police say they are looking at footage to get more information about each of the suspects. even though the robberies took place from hours of each other and six miles from each other as well. san francisco police say there are no indications to suggest they are connected. we also don't know how much money the robbers took. now, in all three instance, the robber would enter the bank, give the teller a demand note and the teller would hand over the cash but in two of the incident, the robber would open up a jacket to display a gun to the teller also. >> it's surprising. i have family that i help out that live right around the corner. they come here late at night. i mean, it's just -- it's scary. >> have a lot of costs that

continue go to up. people are getting desperate and a lot of people are not getting those jobs that even though we see our employment is doing going down, there's still many people who aren't getting jobs. so they are pulling to dress brit measure -- desperate, ms. >> measures. >> reporter: two of the robbers were asian in their 30s. in another robber, a caucasian man in his 20s who wore black glasses and a fake mustache. police are asking any witnesses or anyone with information to come forward. we're live here in san francisco, brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:36. we are learning more about an unusual bird problem holding up plans to tear down the eastern span of the bay bridge. sea birds called double breasted birds are the cause of the delay. the clock is ticking to move the birds out since in february, they will start

laying eggs. once that happens, demolition would have to stop. so far, caltrans has tried to scare them off with expensive decoys, loud audio recordings and even install bird condos on the new bridge to try to lure them over there. nets were also put on the old bridge to keep the birds away. the price tag, $30 million. that's about 40 grand per bird. caltrans argues it is actually saving tax payers money. >> if we don't do this, our penalties could far exceed the cost. so we're in a balancing act. >> demolition of the old span is expected to take until 2018. so no one expects this issue to go away any time soon. well, today, the south bay volunteers will be holding a care packing party for troops and soldiers overseas. operation care and comfort will pack more than 500 care pack packages for active service members as well as veterans.

the packages include clothing, food and hygiene projects. local organizations raised $15,000 in cash and items for these care packages. since 2003, they've sent more than a million pounds of packages to the troops. veterans and the military history of the presidio will be honored today during a very special service. the sound of bagpipes and bells will ring and be heard at 11:00 this morning at the presidio chapel. it's free and open to the public. president obama is opening two days of talks with the president of china. this is video of president obama and chinese president. and you see john kerry there greeting members of president obama's staff. then sitting down to tea. two leaders are meeting one on one following the apec summit. tomorrow, they will hold in- depth talks in remarks with the chinese president today,

largest corn maze are considering scaling back after too many visitors got last. it's a seasonal maze. it normally takes people two hours to find their way through the 63-acre maze. that's pretty big. but in some cases, visitors got so lost, they called 911. the solano county sheriff's department said seven calls when the maze was open. no deputies were never sent out. instead of the department contacted the owners of the corn maze and cool patch pumpkins reportedly want toped go bigger for next fall but -- warranted to go bigger for next fall but now they are reconsidering. i suppose if you are tall, us could split someone up to try to find your way out. >> one of deputies saying, i'm not -- >> you might not come out [laughter] there is a new book. it claims to know the secrets of the family life of jesus. the bombshells contained in

time is 8:43. happening now, thousands of bay area nurses are on strike. ktvu's tara moriarty joining us live in san francisco with more on how you may be affected if you have an appointment today. tara? >> reporter: well, we're here at the medical center on gearry where you can see there are a bunch of nurses. they are just some of the 16,000 to 18,000 nurses who have walked out on the job. ♪ find out what it means to me ♪ >> reporter: kaiser says 56 of the hospitals and clinics in northern california are affected. officials say operations will continue as normal because they've hired replacement nurses. nurses say they are striking because they are concerned
