is back with the team after a long suspension for his troubles with the law. smith was suspended for nine games in august for violating the nfl's policy on potential conduct and substance abuse. he pleaded no contest in may for three felony murder charges and d ux i. smith was alod to be around the team as part of thes is pension but could not participate in on field activities until today. as smith returns, the 49ers have lost one of the team's stars for the remainder of the season. according to fox sports line backer patrick willis is being placed on season ending injured reserve. he is legally to under go surgery on an injured big toe. he has not played in a game since october 13th when he injured the toe in a game against the st. louis rams.

fire officials say it was spotted by the ferry captain around 7:30 between the goalen gate bridge and alcatraz island. the ferry was heading from sausalito to the ferry building. there is no information on the person's identity or how he or she ended up in the water but officials say the body was in the water for awhile. the body was handed over to the san francisco medical examiner. a four-year-old boy is being treated for serious injuries after falling more than 200 feet down a sonoma county cliff. it happened yesterday while sebastian johnson was hiking with his family in bodega bay. the little boy suffered a broken arm and leg and juice to his face. his father tells us sebastian fell while throwing rocks from the cliff to the water below. >> he's not a afraid of anything. i think when he was throwing, he had no fear. i think when the mom and them

got carried away. >> a rescue tale had to repel the cliff face to reach sebastian. thousands of kaiser nurses are on strike. ktvu tara moriarty is joining us live from oakland with more on the two-day strike and how it's impacting patients. good afternoon tara. >> reporter: we are here at kaiser with is on the corner of broadway and mccarthur. all of these nurses you see here walked out on the job at 7:00 this morning. this is a two-day strike that impacts 56 hospitals and clinics. decided to strike with about 18,000 other kaiser nurses throughout northern california. she says kaiser hasn't been hiring enough nurses to cover

shifts. >> getting overtime. getting fatigue. we are just putting the patients at risk. >> reporter: she has worked here for 14 years. she says over the past several months, she filled countless double shifts because she feels bad leaving her patients. how much over time? >> sometimes we do 14 doubles in a pay period. >> reporter: it was assentment echoed by nurses in san francisco. >> with obama care coming into effect, we need more staff. we have 400,000 new members and they are not increasing our staffing. every day we come to wok we are short staffed. and they are calling you at home to do doubles. >> reporter: kaiser officials say that is not true. >> we try not to do doubles. sometimes depending on patients needs vary in the hospital depending on what is happening in the emergency room. >> reporter: contract talks started in july but recently broke down. officials say operations will

sacrifice. as i mentioned, the veterans day program ended just about an hour ago. veterans of all ages are here. veterans day was first known as arm sis day to mark the end of world war ii in 1918. veterans we spoke with today say they are grateful with the way veterans are honored. >> i enjoy these people for being out here. i really thank them. [ crying ] but now i feel a lot better. >> reporter: lawrence lynn served in the vietnam war. he and others tell stories of being harassed when they returned from service. >> when i got out in '73, it seemed like we were more like

baby goers. we didn't get the respect. some people didn't want to let people know they were in the service. they get a lot more respect now when they come back from afghanistan and iraq which is really great. >> reporter: congresswoman jackie spears says she thinks veterans day should be every day and says she is thankful for the veterans for the honor the veterans get today. >> i think we have grown up. the vietnam war was a war in which the kids of the 60s and 70s spoke out and i think many of those who served then felt like they were not welcomed home. >> reporter: i have to tell you it is a breathtaking site to be here in san bruno.

we are learning new details about the death of the actor robin williams. williams was struggling with a disease known as louie body dimension. robin's wife had told authorities shortly after his death that the comedian had been complaining about the medications he was taking and the way they made him feel. sources close to williams' family say it's believed the disease was the key factor that drove him to take his life. the georgia april la family

of san francisco zoo is in mourning. this is the photo of the family. the grandmother who was the baby's primary care giver appears to be taking the death at hardest. k ark bibi was crushed by an automatic door. the door was working properly but it's uncleared if it had an automatic shut off sensor. the zoo has hired animal psychologist dr. terry naples to help with the investigation. frustration is growing among students at san jose state university because of a racially offensive comment by a school official. students filed a complaint in august over an alleged comment about a board member of the university's tower foundation. that board member denies the comment comment which is derogatory toward latinas. the university says it is sensitive to issues of tolerance but the complaint is still under investigation.

san francisco police are investigating three bank robberies that all happened within a 24 hour period. it happened last friday night at a wells fargo bank near da bee row. and finally at 5:30 that evening the wells fargo was robbed. police say they are now reviewing surveillance footage but investigators say even though the robberies happened hours apart, so far there is no indication that they are connected. >> it is surprising. i have family that help out and live around the corner and they come here late at night. it is scary. >> it's unclear how much money was stolen. in all three cases the robbers handed the tellers a note.

uncovered just how often you are being over charged at the register. inspector there is visited stores more than 1300 times and 42% of the time stores were caught over charging for at least one item. >> it's against the law to over charge anybody. and you are supposed to receive the lowest price posted or quoted. it doesn't matter if it's a sticker or sign, whatever is lowest sale paper, that is what you are are supposed to get. >> 2 investigates revealed some of the places. our fall weather is back in full force. mostly cloudy skies out there at this hour. and temperatures a lot cooler

a dry day. by wednesday night we have light rain. and then while we sleep, it will slide south and move into the central and south bay. wednesday night into thursday morning is the event. thursday morning we will wake up with the possibility of wet roadway for the early morning drive. but then by thursday afternoon we are already drying out. as far as rainfall amounts, not a lot but we will take what we can get. quarter inch to a half an inch for most areas. and the hills and parts of the north bay almost pick up more than that half inch to an inch if we are lucky. giving you a look at the temperatures. 63 degrees. 63 in novato. 64 redwood city. so in addition to those temperatures being cooler today with the cloud cover in place, it feels a lot cooler. 60s will be in the forecast for the afternoon as well. low 60s at the coast. and san francisco mid 60s for hayward and oakland. the extended forecast here on

down load apps from the apple app store. some thrill seekers in southern california are speaking out after jumping in to swim with the shark. it happened yesterday off the coast of santa barbara. four men were spear fishing when they saw a hammer head shark and two of the men decided to swim with it. >> only when we hopped in the water was it evident that he was really fired up. he came straight in to the point we were pulling our fins in. >> the shark became aggressive forcing them to get out of the water but they say the thrill of interacting with a shark was worth the risk. the director of a shark lab in long beach says it's unusual to see hammer head sharks in thaty but it's more are copping from baja. san francisco's collide -- ax aa doe tonighted turkeys

that were delivered to the church this morning. he says the glide will be serving 5,000 meals on thanksgiving to people who might otherwise go hungry. >> those who looked up on and shunned and many times found homeless and many times find different ways to respond. they will -- we will need that meet. because we will feed them. >> the reverend williams says glide will need at least 1500 turkeys. 500 hams and all the side dishes for a complete meal. he says the church will need the help of about 500 volunteers to serve up all of that food. five students shot in one week. we told you about one of the students a 16-year-old basketball player shot in front of his house. tonight we are learning more about how a school district is coping with the violence facing student there is.
