officers look for evidence tonight after a hit-and-run driver struck and killed a driver while on the run from the law. good evening i'm julie haener. and i'm frank somerville. witnesses say it was a chase gone wrong. they tell me that a sheriff deputy was in pursuit of a car when that car hit a boy when he was crossing the street with a skateboard. amber lee is live where that crash happened, that's an unincorporated part of alameda. >> we're at the intersection of ashland and 14th street.

the witness tells us the hit- and-run driver hit and killed the boy here at this intersection around 6:15 tonight. a neighbor tells me he was out in front of his home watching his girlfriend back out of his driveway when he saw a sheriff's car with flashing lights chasing a four door sedan along east 18th street. he said the sedan ran a red light and estimated that it was speeding going about 40 to 50 miles per hour when he struck a boy holding a skateboard. >> just happened so fast. >> i really didn't pay much attention to the car because a sheriff officer was behind him so. >> what's your reaction? >> man, i was shocked. i couldn't believe it. >> reporter: the witness says the car got away but it appear it is driver was alone.

just moments ago the alameda county coroner's office confirmed the boy did die here at the scene. and as well, we also checked in to see whether the driver has been arrested. we have no information on that at this point. we do have unconfirmed information from a witness that says the driver may have been running from an attempted robbery. that's the latest from here. the car struck a woman shortly before 4:30 this afternoon on south king road in east san jose. police say the victim was carrying clothing or laundry and was pronounced dead at the scene. a driver, a man stopped and then was arrested for driving under the influence. this is san jose's 38th traffic

fatality this year. the san francisco medical examiner still has not released the identity of a victim who's body was found in san francisco bay this morning. the san francisco fire boat recovered that body and brought it to show. he was spotted by a ferry captain between the golden gate bridge and alcatraz island. an official says it appears the person had been in the water for about a week. so far police are not saying if the body was that of a missing tech worker from san francisco. police in menlo park shot and killed a burglary suspect today. initially one of the officers pulled out a taser. but ktvu's david stevenson tells us why officers say they quickly realized that a taser was not enough. >> reporter: the gunfire in this upscale menlo park neighborhood sent people running inside for cover. >> we didn't want to be in the line of somebody's fire. so we went inside. and we've been sitting in there

ever since. >> reporter: three menlo park officers responded to a call about a suspicious person near middle field road. police say the officer spotted a male suspect involved in a possible robbery. >> a foot pursuit ensued. one of the officers deployed their taser, an adult suspect pulls a weapon. >> reporter: police say a weapon was recovered. >> it was like four shots. they're pretty loud you know. didn't sound like a little gun. >> reporter: the median price for homes in this area are a $4

million. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. thousands of kaiser nurses walked off the job today and on to the picket lines. the strike at 25 hospitals is expected to last until tomorrow. nurses say they don't have the resources to properly care for patients they're protesting over ebola safeguards and staffing levels. >> we're striking because the patients are striking, they have a denial of care, they're not receiving the care that they've actually paid for. >> kaiser said it trained 3,800 temporary nurses for the two day strike and cancelled some elective procedures. the. the four-year-old boy who

a happy homecoming for a group of friends who went to russia for a trip of a lifetime and ended up detained and on trial. jana katsuyama live now at the airport and she tells us the trip was sponsored by the california association of student councils, jana. >> reporter: it was julie, and these three young women from chico they were really exhausted, really relieved to be back at the bay.

they left on a state grant. >> reporter: the three left sfo expecting the trip of a lifetime. ouyen ngo was hopeful. >> learning about other people's culture an opportunity to build lasting friendships. >> reporter: when 29-year-old jennifer pham, 27-year-old liana rendazo and sterling winter landed they saw the sights and instantly hit it off with the russian youth at the leadership group. >> the first six days were so bright and great and the students were so warm and they embraced us. >> reporter: but then immigration officials showed up. >> prosecutors arrived along with some officials from the migration office. and some police officers and the newschannel. and asked us to present our passports. >> reporter: they thought it was a standard passport check but the russian officials questioned the group and ordered them to a migration

direction. 911 calls poured in reporting the wrong way driver. >> a car was seen on lane number one. >> reporter: while investigators are trying to determine exactly how or why the driver identified as kelly lin morgan made the dangerous move they say one circumstance is clear, morgan was under the influence of drugs. officials aren't releasing surveillance video they tell us cameras from multiple angles today morgan in a 1996 lincoln driving westbound on the eastbound lanes. i'm told on the video she is seen driving erratically, her car head lights off. several drivers are seen swerving to get out of her way. others barely avoiding collisions. >> we have a nissan involved in

this. >> reporter: morgan sideswiped two other vehicles. i did some checking and wrong way drivers are a real issue. the chp has received several reports. nine of them have been spotted on the bay bridge. in those, one resulted in a crash and one led to the arrest of a driver. investigators say it is a troubling trend that is putting people at risk. now in additional to being arrested for drunk driver. morgan was also sited for driving without a license. i'm told that this case is expected to go to the district attorney's office tomorrow -- morgan was also cited for driving without a license. we're told the couple remains in the hospital with critical condition. her husband and two others have all been treated and released. >> well that's good news. thank you. plans for walking and a

biking trail on the western span of the bay bridge have been rejected at least for the time being. bay bridge officials say the problem say it would cost way too much. estimates are in the range of 400 to $5 billion. officials say they look at six options and if they can come up with any cheaper ideas they will reconsider. once the new eastern span opened there were plans for extensions. 129 votes that's all that separates two candidates from mayor of alameda. challenger chris spencer holds a razor thin lead. the county registrar voters -- election workers had the day off for veteran's day but we could know the outcome by tomorrow. temperatures in the 70s yesterday. today just in the mid-60s. we did see 67 in antioch. a lot of cloud cover today. more cloud cover tomorrow.

and then showers in the forecast by tomorrow night at about this time especially in the north bay. that's the system i'm tracking. the main energy from that system is here. north of about north of point arena. we're not going to see more than half an inch of rain in the heaviest locations that's what it looks like. we have a marine inversion. it's pushing inland. really just low clouds straight pushing inland. we're not seeing that really dense coastal fog that we've been seeing. as that low gets closer, it pushes the clouds inland. in advance of the system that gets here tomorrow evening. overnight low tomorrow, 49 in concord and 47 in livermore. cloud cover will keep things a little bit warmer. it's chilly out there but it's not going to be into the 30s. clouds, cloud, and here is the starting the leading edge of this moisture. here we are at 6:00 tomorrow

there are reports that comedian robin williams suffered from a type of dementia that's similar to alzheimer's disease. a pathology report from williams autopsy mentions the disease and sources tell tmz that it was a factor leading to his suicide last august at the age of 63. a neurologist at ucsf says like alzheimer's it affects the patient's thought process. >> they're seeing people that are not there. that would be one of the main things. animals, in the room, people that have passed away. >> reporter: louiebody dimension are usually seen with parkinsons. a south bay volunteer never

singles day began as an anti valentine's day for unattached students to buy gifts for themselves. wall street was flat today in the absence of big economic news. still the dow ended in the black again closing with a one point gain. it's the fifth consecutive record high for the dow. the nasdaq was up eight. yahoo announced today that it is buying video ad company bright roll of san francisco for $640 million. bright roll is used by some big advertisers serving companies such as honda, comcast and all state. this acquisition could help yahoo regain ground that it's been losing to google and facebook in selling web advertising. wet weather moves in tomorrow. i'm narrowing down the hours when this system will bring showers to your neighborhood. >> i'm not ray rice. you know. i'm not these other guys.

the city of richmond is planning a peace vigil tomorrow after a string of shootings. police say there have been eight shootings in richmond and north richmond in the past week. five of those wounded were teens. the violence is hitting richmond high school hard because five of the victims are either former or current students including both of people killed. >> it's like a kick in the gut. i was so hoping we were past that. this has been the central issue in this district, this community for a long time.

education gets pushed to the side. everything gets pushed to the side when young people are spilling blood on the streets. >> it'll be led by richmond high's basketball team. an arrest has been made now in the beating case of a nordstrom rack store. she asked the attacker to quiet the store inside of the store. the two then argued, you see what happened here. when the victim walked out to the car the mother punched her in the face knocking her to the ground. police have now arrested 27- year-old terry esley. they arrested her yesterday on suspicion of felony battery resulting in serious injury. a sense of relief in the 49ers locker room. the district attorney in santa clara county decided mcdonald will not face domestic violence

this historic mission. we're taking a look at the system you're tracking out there. this system sitting offshore and it's headed our way. it looks as though we're going to see showers as we head into tomorrow afternoon. the showers as they move closer to us are going to really start to increase the cloud cover and cool temperatures. let's take a look at this system in depth now. what i'm tracking here. you see the system right here. as it moves in, we're basically going to see the increasing clouds tomorrow afternoon. and then as we get into the afternoon hours the clouds really pick up and we'll see moisture as i pointed out earlier and showers starting to develop in the bay region as we head into your evening hours. so tomorrow night at this time, we have showers to talk about that will be impacting you and those showers if this part of the system is true will move into the bay area. and give us a shot at a wet bay
