we have breaking news tonight from concord where there's been a deadly shooting. this is a live picture from the willow shopping center. we've been told the shooting happened about 9:00 in front of the rei store. initial reports suggest the confrontation started as a police pursuit. it appears the person drove to the parking lot of the sun valley mall, then abandoned his car and ran on foot to the willow shopping center, and that's where the shots were fired. a court victory for gun rights advocates means it could be easier for californians to obtain a permit to carry a concealed weapon. a three judge panel at the 9th circuit court of appeals in san francisco says the state has no ground to challenge an earlier ruling. the state could ask the full

9th circuit to reconsider. a spokesperson for attorney general pamela harris says her office is now reviewing the decision. tonight 2 investigates an adult product that in the wrong hands could potentially be deadly. we're talking about the nicotine liquid that goes into e cigarettes. we've learned that calls to california poison control for nicotine poisoning has more than doubled this year. the problem is children are getting ahold of the potentially toxic liquid. there is a solution, but it's not required by law. >> reporter: frank, these are the nicotine liquids that someone who vapes would put into an e pen or cigarette. hundreds of children have landed in california emergency rooms for ingesting, or sometimes even just touching

it was a workplace mishap that happened 68 stories above ground in manhattan. firefighters had to cut a hole through a triple pane glass to reach the workers and pull them to safety. the two men were tethered and communicating by radio during the rescue. >> the important part of the rescue was members from squad 18 up on the roof were able to lower rope to secure both victims on the scaffolding. >> the nail biting incident happened after one of four cables became loose and allowed the scaffolding to sag and blow in the wind. the victims suffered only minor injuries. a decade after launching, a european spacecraft made history today, landing on a comet. the european space agency says lander touched down at about 8:00 this morning. scientists initially thought it was a smooth landing.

planned an amnesty station. >> a little pond-ish site, that's covered, then we will rescue them from that and take them to animal care. >> reporter: in a few years, they say the $13 million restoration project should return mountain lake to pristine. john fowler, ktvu, channel 2 news. the main lava flow on hawaii's big island has stalled, but no breakout flows are on the move. they show rivers of molten lava over an embankment, toward a waste and recycling center. the lava advanced more than 200 yards in the past 24 hours. in other places, the lava is 18 feet high and a half mile wide. a man who has been dubbed evil elmo is due to appear in a san francisco courtroom tomorrow. he is 50-year-old adam sandler, also known as danny sandler.

business owners say he's prone to obscene outbursts and threatening behavior. prosecutors say he was arrested after he confronted a merchant who refused to take down a sign warning tourists about him. he is charged with felony criminal theft and misdemeanor nuisance and disserving the peace. a big rig hauling frozen turkeys overturned in san ramon. but all was not lost. the truck ended up on its side to southbound interstate 680. some of the 23,000 pounds of prosen turkey spilled out onto the roadway. a health inspector checked out the turkeys, and said some are not damaged and are safe to eat. the turkeys will be used to help feed the hungry. might be getting a few light showers at your house. the system moving in now is mainly to the north of us, that's where the heaviest rain

is up around point arena and toward mendocino. we're seeing showers move on shore at half moon bay, and pacifica. these showers will take us into the morning hours. come in close here. this is out by pillar point. not a lot of folks out in this area as you get to half moon bay, but this whole cell, or area, is going to start translating this way, across the hill into san mateo woodside. showers picking up. those showers will be in your neighborhood by tomorrow morning. i suspect we wake up, most of us have a little bit of wet on the ground. overnight lows are going to be moderate. that's because of the cloud cover and the rain flattens temperatures out. mostly cloudy with the rain developing this evening. it's going to be at times there will be moderate rain. then mostly light rain. half inch the most. that's at the coastal hills. that might be in pacifica or san francisco. but up in santa rosa and san jose, a tenth of an inch, or a

quarter of an inch. mountains are getting snow, but the snow level is high. about 8,000 feet. still stuff going on. we've got moisture pretty much throughout the central and northern portion of california. not horrible, but just wet enough to slow you down. here we are 8:00 a.m. there we go into the rest of the afternoon. by 5:00, the roads are probably dry by then as well. the showers should have ended. temperatures tomorrow, mid-60s. this is kind of a mild weather system. hence the high snow levels. not a real strong weather system. not what we need by any means. just a moment ago, i was looking at the long range models that go way out. it does look like we get into a progressive pattern, with more significant showers. let's get some wet in the morning. slow moving commute. it dries out for your afternoon commute. weekend not too bad. next week things start to loosen up a bit. by the thanksgiving period, the
