race. ktvu channel 2 morning news continues. good morning. we are live at san mateo high school this morning where police are warning students, teachers, and parents to be on high alert. there have been recent reports of a suspicious man around campus and approaching young women. coming up in a few minutes, ktvu alex savidge will tell us what these reports have in common. thank you for joining us, it is friday, november 14th i'm pam cook. >> good morning, i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic and everybody wants to know, steve, how to dress for this friday. >> it's a little chilly for some and very toy for others. mostly clear out there. dense fog advisory has been posted for the north bay. we are getting reports

petaluma, santa rosa and napa. for others you will. once it burns off mostly sunny and mild. a lot of moisture in the air. lows 40s and 50s. napa, santa rosa, north bay. marin county, be careful. some of that could be zero visibility. after the fog burns off, we are good to go. 40s and 50s on the temps. noticeably cooler after yesterday's rain. but also because the cool air moved aloft. upper 40s and low 50s. menlo park at 48. higher clouds might spill in but over all a mostly sunny, partly sunny forecast here for the next couple of days. fog, sun, mild. thinking morning fog. we'll have your weekend update in 12 minutes.

here is the man with the traffic. let's look at the east bay. east shore freeway is moderately heavy from the carquinez bridge to the mccarthur maze. yesterday was five times more than that. we will not have any of that rain to mess with the morning commute. however, there is problems out there. bay bridge is just moderate. this is a 15-20 minute delay. i was told that there was a crash on 880 southbound. trying to manipulate the map. it's right here. southbound 880 between marina and davis. there is a crash here. there is a large debris field in the area traffic is beginning to back up on

southbound 880. and pretty soon it will start backing up in oakland. i have a feeling it will start effecting that commute. let's go back to the desk. witnesses say a blind man was hit and killed by a car while on his way to pray at a mosque in oakland. it happened last night on market street right near the berkeley city line. ktvu tara moriarty is joining us now from this scene and has more on how this all unfolded. tara. >> reporter: we are here at the intersection where the man was crossing and there are already flowers that have been placed in the center median. as you can see. this is the crosswalk that the man was using on his way to the mosque which you can see is not really well marked or it will. this accident happened at 6:15 last night. witnesses say the driver was traveling too fast and struck the the blind man as he was walking. ktvu spoke to one person who knew the victim. he says the 47-year-old man frequently prayed at the mosque nearby. >> he is blind and he always

carried a stick. like a white colored stick for the blind. and then he stops and waves his stick on the road so people they can see him. >> reporter: police are trying to determine if alcohol was a factor in this crash. officials say this was not a hit and run. the driver did stop to cooperate. the victim leaves behind a wife and two children. we know some folks have gone over there to pray. we are hoping to speak with them this morning to get reaction about the victim. tara moriarty ktvu channel 2 news. there is a warning going out to students and parents at san mateo high school. it's about three recent reports of a suspicious man near the campus. alex savidge is joining us live now to tell us what the police want everybody to know.

good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, to you. this man has been trying to talk with girls as they come to class here at san mateo high school and they say he even approached a teacher here last night. according to a sergeant that young woman was harassed by a man near the adult school which is right next to the high school. this man hasn't made any threats but his behavior is concerning for police. this past wednesday a 16-year- old girl said that a man in a parked car yelled out at her from acrass the street as she was walking to school. he apparently said and i'm quoting here, good morning, can i ask you a question? and he asked the girl to come closer to his car. the student in that case ignored the man as she went on to campus. police got a report of a similar situation last thursday. a week ago yesterday. the 16-year-old girl was parking her car near the school when she noticed a suspicious looking man in a parked car. he said that man circled the block and pulled alongside her.

one parent we talked to said he is glad police are getting the word out to students in this area. >> just be more aware of your surroundings. just observe a little bit. >> reporter: police say the descriptions in all three are similar. one girl described him as an asian man, balding. the other girl described the man as filipino, bald, in his 40s. but san mateo police sergeant i spoke with this morning tell me they are dealing with the same person in all three of the cases. three separate cases, two students, one teacher harassed over the past week here near san mateo high school. they will try to put together a sketch of that man and have that out to the public in the coming days. they are warning everybody about this man and warning

everybody to be careful. live in san mateo ktvu channel 2 news. former chp officer accused of stealing explicit photos from the cell phones of dui suspects is due in court. faces two felony accounts of theft and copying data. harrington resigned in october. he play be seeking a plea deal. reportedly there is just not enough evidence for a criminal case against the other officers. a former drug dealer and police informant testified a group of san francisco police officers helped him rob fellow drug dealers. the testimony yesterday was in the first of two federal corruption trials. the allegations first surfaced in 2011 after surveillance

videos showed officers searching residential hotels. they call the case corruption with a badge. they accuse members of an under cover police unit of extortion, drug dealing, and lying in court and on police reports. it's taken eight years but a bay area wedding planner is going to jail. after stealing tens of thousands of dollars from his clients. take a look at this video. for they paid stanley quan $4,000 for their wedding cake and reception food. >> you are completely detraded and we were just stunned. we had to scramble around like crazy and find our own food and wedding cake. it was tough. >> the san francisco district attorneys office received complaints about quan from 23 couples during 2005 and 2006.

the da says quan surrendered as part of a plea bargain. now he will spend two years in the county jail. he will be on supervised probation for two more years. quan stole more than $60,000 from couples and has paid back only $7,000. a construction worker is hospitalized with serious injuries after being caught in a piece of machinery. it happened at 7:30 last night on the center median of highway 4 right near the hill crest avenue exit. the worker was caught in an auger which is a large pipe with a screw inside. the worker had major injuries and had to be air lifted to a hospital. both bart and cal train projects are under way on that section of highway 4 but it's not clear which project that the worker was involved with. time is 6:09. a decision is expected soon on whether san jose will hold a recount of the mayor's

election. sam liccardo already claimed victory. the it director for the religion stars office resigned. many are wondering if that effected the vote counting process. according to the last ballot count, sam liccardo leads by 3,000 votes. if there is a recount, it would happen before december 2nd. time is 6:10. be and calling for new safety measures after a high school student was hit and killed while riding his bike to school. coming up at 6:30, the three changes neighbors want the city to make near month vista high school. >> also investigating how a man was able to sneak into the white house. the several mistakes made by the secret service agents that allowed that man to get into the building. >> good morning. right now we are still looking

the wrong way driver on the bay bridge. chp says carrie lynn mor gone was driving a stolen car. these photos of these impounded car. you can see how violent the crash was. morgan crashed head on with one car and sideswiped two other cars. ktvu news talked to the owner of that stolen car. he says it's part of a taxicab fleet. he parked it last weekend before going out of town. >> saturday morning about 9:30 was the last time the person that reported the vehicle stolen last saw it parked there. they were told on sunday afternoon it was involved in a crash. they called the police department and reported stolen. >> there is no word how long morgan had that car on saturday before the crash.

more than $15,000 has been raised online for the family of a milpitas man killed in a fishing accident. khiem nguyen had recently received a reward. khiem nguyen went fishing with his friends when a wave took him under water. his body was recovered the next day. relatives say he was passionate about serving his country and his community. he was also a part-time youth soccer coach. >> very difficult on how to describe him. i can say i'm so proud of my son. >> a massachusetts for him will be held next friday. online donations will go into a trust fund for his 7-year-old son. the department of homeland security says a series of

secret service mistakes allow an intruder to get into the white house. omar gonzalez jumped over the white house fence and ran into the white house. the secret service alarm systems and their radios didn't work properly and many of the secret service agents on duty at the time did not see gonzalez as he climbed over the white house fence. the officer that is supposed to release security dogs he was in a van without his radio ear piece in and talking on his personal cell phone. urban outfitters is raising controversy. selling the hillary clinton nutcracker.

time is 6:16. let's get you out the door. sal will give you a nice push but you are busy already aren't you? >> yeah we are looking at 880. there is a crash in san leandro between davis and marie that. just a second ago we were looking at it and there was not a backup yet. it has reached oakland. two left lanes have left. of course you are probably tired at nimitz freeway. 580 looks good all the way to san leandro. westbound bay bridge that is backed up all the way to the mccarthur maze but it's a 20-25 minute delay. we check with public transit systems and public transit is a

good option for you. the fog will be an issue in some areas. here is steve. >> that is right. petaluma and santa rosa seem to be out here on the fog report. we do have a dense fog advisory for the north bay. other advisories clear. not much of a breeze. fog and fair. weekend not bad. next week warm and then rain maybe. there is one system wednesday possibility later in the week. but we have a lot of lead time on that. rainfall has been turned upsidedown. they are all close ton the total. yet as a percentage of normal 63% forson jose. 55 san francisco. only 33% for santa rosa. there has been more rain to the

south. san francisco sunset 4:59 p.m.. 80 not that long ago in 2008. there is the dense fog advisory. visibility didn't seem to be that bad. some fog after that once it burns off you can see the higher clouds. they are pushing out of the picture. some rain and you can see it there. not a lot showing up on radar. 40 in tahoe. much warmer in denver. bismarck 30 happen new orleans at 38. atlanta 30. everybody in the plunge of the

cold air. lake effect snow continues. it's arrived. even into new york they had sleet so they have wide variety of weather. we have very calm conditions. 40s and 50s on our temps. and some areas might get a little offshore breeze. hayward showing that. higher clouds pushing to the north. these higher clouds are long gone. it looks like a quiet pattern here. mostly sunny after that fog burns off. could be a system dig into nevada. that should scour out the fog. and give us mostly sunny conditions. and warmer on tap. >> warmer weather. wow. >> there is a lot going on east

of us. >> all right, steve. 6:20 is the time right now. it costs a little bit less to buy imported goods in october. that is according to the federal government this morning. economists expected prices to drop because of plunging global oil prices. definitely effecting the economies around the world. import prices fell 1.3%. that is the biggest drop in more than two years. sales of tablet computers continue to grow. although more slowly than before. 55million tablets were shipped during the third quarter. that is up 6%. sales jumped 17% during the same time last year. apple continues to be the top seller. but that is down from 27% last year. samsung which is second also saw its market share drop. time is 6:21. we are still talking about the bawdy gorilla -- baby gorilla. what an expert says about the electric door that crushed the

than 2,000 homes in napa and solano county damaged by the earthquake in august. insporeing toes -- inspectors are documenting the losses. the deadline for the applications december 29th. that magnitude 6.0 quake was the biggest in the quake area since the leo mappery et that quake. two sisters separated at birth are back in each other's lives thanks to facebook. two years ago amise received a screen shot of a young woman that looked exactly like her. after months of online investigating, bordia found a name and discovered they were both from south korea and had the same birthday. she sent her a facebook request last year and they have been in

near constant contact ever since. unfortunately the search for their birth mother did not have such a happy ending. >> finding our birth mother is a difficult topic. she wasn't necessarily as warm to us as we had hoped for but if we have learned anything in this story it's things will happen as they should. >> the twins are now 26 years old. bordia is studying in london. the sisters see each other whenever they can. they love brushing their teeth several times a day, they don't like being touched by shower curtains, and hate cooked carrots. they are making a movie about their experience. time is 6:26. tomorrow is the first anniversary of the bat kid who saves san francisco. now he's really miles scott and six years old.

it's now 6:30. we will get to that bad crash with sal in a moment. but steve has the weather and snappy new cameras. a little purple haze. i like that picture. thick morning fog. not that picture but to the north bay where there is a dense fog advisory out. mostly sunny today. mild. kind of muggy. a lot of moisture in the air. you kind of expect that after the rain. dense fogged a sezary goes until 9:00. that is only for the north bay. we do have mostly sunny skies on tap. the high and mid level clouds are long gone. it has moved into central california. it looks like it's winding down. 40s and 50s on your temps. a little cooler for some. under the clear skies and not much of a breeze.

a little hint of an offshore for some. higher clouds might move through but the storm track is heading north. with that in mind we will have a quiet pattern here. morning fog and then mostly subny. we'll have an update coming in ten minutes. 880 big problem. >> someone tweeted me saying the 880 is getting as bad as the 405. those are fighting words. those are fighting words. and you start comparing anything to the 405 you're in trouble. 880 southbound but of course i didn't say the 880. 880 southbound between 98th and davis. traffic is backed up from high street. this crash has been there for the last half hour to 45 minutes and the traffic is going to be busy but we have a decent alternate and that would be 580 eastbound. it's not too bad. if you are trying to get to san leandro f is the call. eastbound 580. don't use 880 it starts to slow

at high street. let's go to the bay bridge. there is a back up there of about 25-30 minutes getting into san francisco. 6:32 let's go back to the desk. there is a warning going out to both students and parents at san mateo high school. there are reports of a suspicious man near campus. ktvu alex savage is out there already with more on the common trend. good morning, alex. >> reporter: good morning, to you. police really want to find this man. they have been trying to talk with girls as they head to class here at san mateo high school. last night he even approached a teacher near this campus. the sergeant told me in that case a young woman was approached by a man and harassed by him near the adult school which is next to the high school. this man hasn't made any threats but his behavior is quite concerning for police. this past wednesday a 16-year- old girl say a han in a parked car yelled at her from across

the street. he apparently said good morning, can i ask you a question? and asked the girl to come closer to the car. police also goat got a report of a similar situation that happened last wednesday. a 16-year-old girl in that case was parking her car near the high school when she noticed a suspicious looking man in a parked car. she says that man circled the block and pulled up alongside her and followed her in his car as she walked to class. no one was hurt in any of these cases. obviously there is a lot of concern in this community. one parent who lives nearby is glad police are getting this warning out. >> hopefully they get him. hopefully it's not as serious as the matter seems to be. it's a good neighborhood and so a little surprising. >> reporter: and the description according to police are similar in all three of these cases. in one case the girl described him as a light skinned asian

man balding between 45 and 40 years old. driving a silver hatch back. another girl described the man as filipino, balding, and in his 40s. they do plan to put out a sketch to this man in the public in the next coming days. we are live in san mateo ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. time is 6:35. meantime people in cupertino are calling for new safety measures after the death of a student that was hit and killed on his way to school. month vista high school student ethan wong was hit and killed by a u-haul truck after he was riding his bike. noticed a bike path running alongside the train tracks. other ideas they include givings out reflective tape to put on students backpacks. also adding more crossing guards and painting bright green bike lanes. the city is expected to take up

those suggestions next month. when you head to work this morning or driving your child to school, you want extra company on the road. brian flores is right along highway 101 with the new chp crack down on aggressive drivers. brian. >> reporter: we've all had an encounter with an aggressive driver. the chp says they've had campaigns on dui drivers, texting while driving. they will now photos on aggressive drivers for the next year. the chp received a federal grant for this crack down. they say they will be adding more officers on the freeway to look for drivers that speed, do unsafe lane changes or tailgate. the crack down is important citing the most recent statistic from 2011 saying aggressive driving contributed to 1100 deaths and more than 100,000 people injured in this state. >> you don't see any courtesy

in their driving. they will follow vehicles too close. they will unsafely lane change. for example they will cut into his space where there is not enough room for him to be. you will also see them speeding. >> reporter: chp says while aggressive driving is subjective, the telltale signs you have heard the goal is to reduce -- or see a 5% reduction. now we just got done speaking with north bay drivers here this morning. coming up on mornings on 2 about 7:08 to be exact you will hear on what they say. brian flores ktvu channel 2 news. >> that will be interesting to hear where they see the most. thank you. time is 6:37. 30 minutes ago commercial fishermen dropped their crab pots into the ocean.

they are kicking off the dungeons crab season. they were dropped but they won't be able to pull them up until tomorrow morning. that is when we will find out if the crab season will be a good one. pam cook is predicting it will be. meaty. the waters off the sonoma coast were one of the most productive. they were hoping for $3.50 a pound but say they are happy with this years over all price. >> it looks like it will be a good season. we have $3 a pound for a price. which is a fair price. >> state law permits commercial grab crabbers to harvest male crabs only. quality tests conducted earlier in the week to a california fish and wildlife indicated the crabs will be meaty this year. asiana airlines will appeal a suspension handed down by the south korean government. now south korea's transport ministry has prohibited asiana

from flying between san francisco and the south korean city. three passengers were killed more than 180 injured after asiana flight 214 clipped a seawall short of the runway. south korea announced it could have imposed a 90 day suspension but lessened the penalty to minimize the numbers of casualties. a candidate has already claimed victory in the race for san jose mayor. this may not be over yet. coming up in 20 minutes why there could be a recount. >> witnesses say a blind man was struck and killed by a car in oakland as he was on his way to pray at a mosque. we talk to some of the mosque members. we'll tell you what they had to say about them. >> huge traffic problem now in oakland and san leandro. now stretching back for miles this backup because of an injury crash on 880 in oakland. we'll give you alternate routes and i see some people backing

southbound between 98th and davis. it is blocking two lanes and traffic is backed up quickly all the way up past high street. pretty soon it will be backed up to fruitvale. this is a rerun of what we had yesterday. this was terrible last night and now there is a new crash taking the place and eastbound 580 is a very good alternate route right now. eastbound 580 is pretty clear for you heading up to san leandro. avoid 880 southbound out of downtown. 6:43 let's go back to the desk. the lead investigator looking into the death of the baby gorilla at the san francisco zoo says the gorilla enclosure is out dated. died last friday when she was trapped darting under an electric door that was closing. the zoo keeper is supposed to keep a hand on the emergency stop button but the expert investigating hired by the zoo says there is not a clear view

of the door from that emergency button. he recommends the zoo scrap the 30-year-old gorilla enclosure and install a brand new one that will be safer. time is 6:43. san jose police are searching for more clues after a baby's body was found inside of a box under a mobile home. maintenance man found it tuesday at this mobile home park. right down there. he was doing maintenance work when he within into that crawl space, found a box with a bow wrapped around it. when he opened that box, he found a baby's body inside. >> when i take the tape off and see the clothes. i see the little hat. i told the managers you though what, i think i found a dead baby in a box. >> police are trying to figure out how long the baby's body has been there and who may have put it there. the neighbors say the place has been vacant for awhile. the previous owners they left in a rush.

there have also been reports of people that have been in and out of that home since it was abandoned. people who knew a blind man that was hit and killed by a car are now talking about him. that deadly crash happened last night in oakland near the berkeley city line. that is where tara moriarty is joining us now. be we just spoke with the members of the mosque where the victim would play. >> reporter: a lot of heavy hearts here at the mosque which is where the victim was headed when he was killed. he was walking across the crosswalk. there is flowers in the median there. you can see that this crosswalk is not really well marked or well it will. the accident happened last night at 6:15. witnesses say the driver was traveling too fast and struck the blind man as he was walking. we talked to one mosque member who says the 47-year-old man was a giving and religious man who lost his vision about 20 years ago. >> i could not even sleep all night. thinking about him. thinking of -- knowing of his

traffic is at a standstill all the way back from fruitvale now. the best thing to do is use 580. we can show you the road sensors are firing up in oakland. you can see where the road sensors are firing up. eastbound 580 is a decent alternate. just get yourself up a little bit above that. you can use 580 all the way to the castro valley area or use 238 to get back on 880. you will bypass all of this nicely. when you get to the toll plaza westbound traffic looks pretty good getting into and out of vein. westbound and eastbound traffic looking good. it's a little bit of a backup at the toll plaza but there are no problems reported on the bridge. so i should clarify that. 6:47. the weather, you know, a little fog and then some sun later. >> that is absolutely correct. thank you, sir. we have a beautiful sunrise over the big city. i think this is us and not mars

yesterday's much needed rain caused a lot of problems across san francisco. four big trees crashed down in different locations during the rainy and windy weather. the worst incident involved a tree on potrero avenue. a man getting out of an suv was seriously hurt. a fallen tree branch knocked him unconscious. a surgeon working in sierra leone has been diagnosed with ebola and will be flown to a treatment center in nebraska. he will be the third patient treated at the nebraska medical center in omaha. the tenth perp to be treated here in the u.s.. right now he is still in sierra leon. he is a little citizen of that
