>> a congregation in san jose is reeling after a fire damaged this 1-year-old church. it started yesterday afternoon on jackson street. >> we are told the alter is still intact and so are the train stain glass windows. arson investigators are not in there to get a look. the fire broke out yesterday afternoon. more than 100 firefighters responded. by the time they arrived flames had spread the length of the

attic. they ran hoses inside. it took crews 2.5 hours to contain the fire. investigators in napa county are still searching for clues about the mysterious death of a woman who's body was found on a remote highway. early reports called it a deadly hit and run but now another possible crime is being considered. >> she was walking in a hit and run. the other possibility is that she could have been dumped there in the roadway. and you know we're looking at any possibility. >> according to the press democrat, deputies say the woman was only wearing underwear and a jacket when her body was found. highway 29 is a heavily traveled length between lake county and the bay area. the napa county sheriffs department is asking anyone with information about this case to please contact them. time is 6:05. happening today, today is a free parking at bart stations in oakland are over.

alex savidge is joining us live now where a new fee is now in effect. >> not everybody happy about it. free parking is over here at the oakland coliseum bart station. >> reporter: you can see the signs that have gone up here along the parking lot that will let everyone know. this is part of a series of parking fees the first one went into effect at the concord bart station and then the north concord bart station. and next month riders at the hayward station will start paying the fee. these were the last four remaining stations in the system without a parking fee. riders that are paying the new fee are not happy about it. but they don't really have a

welcome back to the morning news. time 16:12 be. a family in east oakland getting help from total strangers after their nine-year- old daughter was hit by a stray bullet and paralyzed from the neck down. last may jackie was playing outside of her home when she was shot. she spent months in the hospital. doctors told her she would never walk again. yesterday janice alamio and peggy visited the family to bring support and a couple of

surprises. peggy says her brother was paralyzed when she was 15 years old. when he died three years later she started a foundation in his memory. >> she needs help. that was our first impression this is a person that my brother put in front of us to say hey, this is who you need to help right now. >> peggy gave jackie's mother a $5,000 check. they also plan to donate an ipad and wheelchair accessible van to help build -- and help build a better ramp outside the family's home. this morning there will be no super shuttle to bay area -- they believe it's connected to

franchise fees. drivers have asked for a better fee structure. >> usually it's a one-day thing. >> now super shuttle vice president says while drivers complain the companies fees are too high, competitors like uber and lift don't have the same cost. he says the company hopes to shuttle the dispute quickly. time is 6:14. investigation is under way in southern california after more than 170 people became sick with the norovirus on a cruise ship. a 28 day cruise from hawaii and tahiti came back over the weekend. federal officials boarded the ship yesterday. they were collecting samples that will be analyzed at a lab. after people started getting sick, the staff took extra precautions. >> there were so many people

colored sedan. janine de la vega is joining us now. >> reporter: a spokesman with the 49ers said he had no idea why federal drug enforcement agents checked on their medical staff team. it happened right after the team played the new york giants in new jersey. the inspections of the teams -- is part of an ongoing investigation. it grew out of a civil suit created a culture of drug misuse with wide spread distribution of painkillers. the 49ers were taken off guard by the visit. >> i have no idea. yo will have to ask them.

police hope surveillance video helps them catch a man who they say deliberately pushed another man off a subway platform to his death. now this is a person they are looking for. officials say he pushed a 61- year-old man on to the tracks yesterday morning as his wife was standing right next to him. the man was killed by an on coming train and the commuters as you can imagine were shot. >> stopped. the train stopped. it came to a complete stop. it was a big commotion on a train. everybody was nervous and panicking. >> some of the people at that subway station say there may have been some kind of disagreement between the suspect and victim. also new this morning the doctor who is being treated at a nebraska hospital for ebola has died. 44-year-old dr. martin salia was working in sierra leone when he contracted ebola. he was transferred to nebraska where he was put in a

biocontainment area. some national guardsmen from the bay area may be heading to west africa to help with the fight against ebola. the national guard announced yesterday a troop based in san francisco is among six national guard troops ordered for a possible deployment. the soldiers will not provide direct medical care to ebola patients, but they would provide training for ebola and malaria prevention. i they would under go a 21 day monitoring period when they return tommying sure they have not contracted ebola. it's official pope francis will be coming to the u.s. making his first trip here as the pope. he will be attending the world meeting of families in philadelphia in september of next year. that event focuses on strengthening family bonds. the vatican hasn't announced any details for the pope's visit but he is expected to conduct an outdoor mass which

could attract more than a million people. today board of directors will review a timetable for returning san francisco city college to full local control. city college trustees would have to wait until july 2016 before regaining full authority. last year the state stripped the elected trustees of their power as a result of a huge money problems and the accreditation crisis. also this week uc regents will consider the latest tuition hike plan for the university of california. the proposed increase would raise tuition 5%. the regions are being forced to raise tuition because state lawmakers are shortchanging the uc system. but many uc students say they are caught in the middle of this money battle. >> i'm cutting corn earns and living right now. so i'm pretty sure it will make it harder than it already is.
