a lot of cloud cover left behind. low clouds and fog. yesterday's system is in the picture. rainfall we need to get a little bit more of it after saturday. looks like we will have a break here for most of thanksgiving week. 53% for san jose. san francisco 61. 39% santa rosa. there is our system. it's inching closer but it's not here yet. but a lot of high clouds increasing out ahead of it. they are moving in quick. especially from mendocino county and lake county. 40s. a little chill for some. 50s for others. if you have any break in those clouds it's cool. not much of a breeze but a little one is beginning to show itself. it will certainly stir up fog and prevent that from forming. no rain yet but on the increase. fog, sun, clouds increasing rapidly. 50s and also 60s. friday light so far sal.

stop it. >> reporter: president obama heads to las vegas to rally support for his executive order on immigration reform. the president announced his plan last night. the president says his plan will protect an estimated five million undocumented immigrants. these are mostly parents of children who are in the u.s.. republicans say they are not happy with how the president acted alone. >> the president says he's acting on his own. that is just not how our democracy works. he said he is not kin. he is an actor. >> i have one answer pass a bill. >> under the president's plan in addition to having children in the u.s., they must have

also been in the u.s. for five years or more, pass a background check and pay taxes as well. san francisco hosted a watch party for the president's speech. a number of them have lost their jobs because of their immigration status. immediately after the president's remarks they talked to the 82nd president. she said she had tears in her eyes. >> it's been an emotionally charged day. there was an earlier call with the white house we had today. and it was a really big deal because 800 of my members lost their jobs. >> said they worked hard and willing to take jobs nobody else wanted and they have not found new jobs since. house speaker john boehner will speak on immigration reform. we will car ray that speech live. happening right now as

well. some students at uc berkeley continuing to protest against tuition increases. they are entering their third day. students are occupying the building. they are spending the night there in their sleeping bags. they began wednesday night and they do not plan to leave until the uc berkeley raises their votes. >> it makes me thankful we are not going to settle with the uc regents decision. >> if they are to maintain their academic preeminence affordability and public service, we knead a sensible budget plan. but students disagree with that statement. some march from wheeler hall to dorms to garner support. they will hold a general assembly at noon today to decide on their next course of

action. milpitas police are out there looking for potential victims of a man accused of sexually assaulting a teenager. 28-year-old john molina was arrested last week that he assaulted a 15-year-old he met on the internet. investigators say he pretended to be a high school student. he is being held on $150,000 bail. four-year-old boy from santa rosa who survived falling more than 200 feet down a cliff he woke up from a medically induced coma. sebastian johnson was visiting bodega hit when he got too close to the edge and fell. emergency responders rescued him. he did suffer broken bones on his head and face. sebastian's dad tells the press democrat that his son opened his eyes on tuesday after being unconscious for about a week. his family says so far it looks

like there is no brain damage. the holiday travel season is officially under way. more than 46 million people are expected to hit the roads, rails, and skies this angst give holiday-- this thanksgiving holiday. tara moriarty is breaking down how travelers are getting out of town. >> it is already getting really busy here. the security lines are starting to back upright now. traveling will be made a lot easier come tomorrow. you can see it over there in the distance. they will be offering some free ride almost later on today. officially the station opens tomorrow. the trains will be running from 8:00 in the morning to 8:00 at night. in san francisco we know 1.3 million passengers are expected to pass through sfo between now and the monday after thanksgiving. that is a slight increase from last year. we talked to passengers that said so far there has been no

headaches or hassles with all flights leaving on time. >> and in san jose international airport the traffic will be up 7% with 350,000 people passing the terminals. park willing be discounted by $8. so $22 a day. parking at sfo is tight. for domestic flights you are advised to give yourself an hour and a half. the state has fined pg&e more than $10 million for a natural gas explosion. violated safety rules and

failed to properly equip a crew. the puc says those over sights led to an explosion of an empty cottage back in march. no one was hurt but it was heard eight blocks away. pg&e has also been fined more than $1 million by the state public utilities commission. the upuc voted in favor of that fine. vallejo police officer shot and killed a pit bull he says was attacking him. it started at 10:45 where police say a man was trespassing. he ran from officers. they chased him into brush and that is when police say a pit bull ran out and bit one of the officers.

the officer says he shot the dog when it moved to attack again. a witness told police that the suspects cut the dogs leash saying he knew the dog would attack. the officer was treated for minor injuries. football fans a rainy night end the the drought. the big plays that led to the raiders first win over a year. how one student survived thanked to his textbook. >> good morning. we are still looking at a commute that is getting busier by the moment but here on the golden gate bridge traffic is light and the visibility is good. >> a little breeze maybe stopping fog for some but there are pockets of it around. not only that but one more system in the weather pipeline that almost bring us rain.

welcome back to the ktvu channel 2 morning news. a report is due today for the gunman blamed for one of the worst school shooting rampages. shot and killed 20 first graders and six educators at sandy hook elementary before committing suicide. this was december 2012. the state office of child advocate which investigates all child deaths to develop ways to prevent them in the future they are going to issue a report on

adam lanza's health. last year a police investigation concluded the reason for that shooting rampage may never been known. florida state university is reopening as students and teachers try to recover from yesterday's campus shooting. the gunman went to the main library and wounded three people before police shot and killed him outside the building. investigators say he was an attorney and florida state graduate who is deeply troubled and believed that the government was targeting him for persecution. officers have recovered a journal and videos detailing his thoughts. here is an amazing story to come out of the shooting. a florida state student says a theology book may have saved his life. he just checked out three books at the library when he heard the gunfire behind it. he was able to run and escape the shooting. when he got home he discovered just how close he came to being shot. >> my body was in shock and i didn't know what to do.

two of the books that i had checked out had a bullet hole in them. >> and the third book he checked out was for his theology class. it had the bullet inside. his parents say the shooting brings a whole new meaning to thanksgiving for them this year. house speaker john boehner giving a statement following president obama's address to the nation detailing his executive order on immigration reform. this is live. let's listen in. >> you can't be trusted to enforce the law. the president never listened. and with this action he's refused to listen to the american people. the president has taken actions that he himself has said are those of a king or an emperor, not an american president. and he is doing this at a time when americans want nothing more than both parties to focus on solving the biggest problems in our country starting with our still struggling economy. and the action by the president

yesterday will only encourage more people to come here illegally and putting their lives at risk. we saw the humanitarian crisis of our border last summer. how horrific it was. next summer it could be worse. and this action also punishes those who have abade the law and waited their turn. with this action the president has chosen to deliberately sabotage any chance of enacting bipartisan reforms he claims to seek. as i told the president yesterday, he's damaging the presidency itself. president obama has turned a deaf ear to the people that he was elected and we were elected to serve. but we will not do that. in the days ahead the people's house will rise to this challenge. we will not stand idle as the president under mines the rule of law. we will listen to the american

people, whether work with our members, and we will work to protect the constitution of the united states. you all know what the rules are. >> mr. speaker the president says you could have prevented this by showing that the house was going to take action on comprehensive immigration reform. did you miss the bullet? >> the president made 38 unilateral changes to the health care act. the president repeated said he was going to change immigration law and created an environment where the members would not trust him. and trying to find a way to work together was virtually impossible. and i warned the president over and over that his actions were making it impossible for me to do what he wanted me to do. >> mr. speaker, can you tell us how you plan to respond, how

the house plans to respond when the house will respond and whether or not you agree with chairman rogers that given how these things are funded, the power of the purse through appropriations is not a constitutional avenue to fight this. >> we are working with our members and looking at the options that are available to us, but i will say to you that the house will in fact act. >> you started a peace meal process last year or earlier this year, can you renovate that? can you reinvigorate it and move forward or start from scratch? >> as i said at the beginning of my remarks, we have a broken immigration system. and the american people expect us to work together to fix it. we ought to do it in the democratic process. moving through the senate and to the president's desk. thank you. happy thanksgiving. of course some very strong words about president obama's plan that he outlined to the nation last night regarding immigration reform. the president's response has been pass a bill. he wants them to pass a bill on immigration reform. certainly this matter heating up quite a bit and we're going to continue to to low that story and the developments and actions. let's check in with sal for a look at the traffic. we want you to avoid an area in san francisco. there is a structure fire there. it's a busy corridor and the t- third line runs on third street. this could be effected but we are trying to figure that out with money knee. obviously when there is a fire, it sends a lot of equipment and it could be blocking the street there. also going to the bay bridge

toll plaza if you are driving westbound into san francisco, the traffic is moving along relatively well once you get on the bridge. you will be waiting for 20 minutes to do that. this is 280 in san jose and this traffic is moving along okay. the weekend forecast, steve, will it rain both days? one day, no day. >> we do have some fog around but a little breast has picked up. that prevents it from setting up shop. there is a four reports. about an hour ago there was more. that breeze has helped. it's not much but a little northerly breeze. clouds continue to roll in. cloudy to mostly cloudy here in the morning. some areas of fog but not as extensive as a couple days ago.

system is inching closer. it has a ways to do before it gets toward fort bragg or lake county. it will give us one more rainer if you will. 20s unin the mountains. 50 for ukiah. but there are some 40s. north bay kind of the most i've seen for awhile. there are a few around. a lot of low 50s to mid 50s. 50 for gilroy and morgan hill. it gives us three systems and pretty good rain. marin county has had a pretty good week. ground is wet. the next rainfall prediction

has been cut in half that seems to be the trend. heavier amounts to the north as you head about north of santa rosa. that will take us into late tonight and tomorrow. wind will pick up a little bit. it will be tonight into tomorrow and saturday night it looks like it will be all gone. fog, sun, clouds. 60s on these temps or 50s. the clouds come in a little sooner. upper 50s for a few. late tonight rain. it will take us into saturday and weaken big time by saturday afternoon. sunday it's gone. monday and tuesday dry. probably fog. it will be back. >> no umbrella this morning? >> not this morning. tonight. tomorrow. >> tonight and tomorrow. thank you, steve. 6:22 is the time. a controversial involving sonoma county sheriffs deputies and a dui suspect.

welcome back to the morning nows. with package deliveries picking up, thieves are stealing those packages. a woman in concord recently found this on her home security system. look at this. someone coming on to her porch stealing a box off her doorstep plus stealing the mail from her mailbox. and throws it on the ground. when the victim showed her video to her neighbors she found someone nearby had also been ripped off. victims say getting caught on camera seems to discourage some of these thieves. >> having the camera in a visible spot which i do it's very obvious to see i have one that it would be a deterrent for somebody. >> for you online shoppers, you're advised to add extra insurance on expensive items that also require a signature for delivery. you may want to use a neighbor or a work address for dropping off. that may be more secure. mail theft is a federal crime.

it's punishable by five years in prison and $250,000 fine. last night deset confers arrested a woman who had a gun outside the white house. agents spotted the woman taking part in a demonstration last night near the white house fence carrying a gun in a holster. it happened shortly after president obama's delivered his address to the nation on immigration. secret service says the woman is 23 years old from michigan. earlier this week secret service arrested a man at a white house who was found to have a rifle and ammunition in his car. 6:27 is the time. people in buffalo, new york continue to dig out from a deadly storm. the new threats the city is facing with rain and warmer temperatures predicted this weekend. >> plus check this out here. hundreds of beautiful cars like this one on display this weekend at moscone center in san francisco. it's the san francisco auto show.

[ laughter ] >> yeah. >> we do have some rain coming this. it will be late tonight and tomorrow. a little hint of a breeze has popped up. that prevents the fog from setting in. there is a couple ors out there. cloudy to mostly cloudy. there will be increasing clouds. our system son the north coast. for the morning which i'm standing right in front of cloudy to foggy. clouds increase. rain northward. it will start early and move in over night. just beginning to move on to crescent city and eureka. 40s for some, 50s for others. there are very cool readings to

the north. it's a little cool for some but that breeze really it's not strong but that is enough oakland 8 miles an hour. that kind of stirs things up. that is why we are not seeing extensive fog. we will have increasing clouds on the way. so fog, some sun but then clouds increase. some rain starts early to the north and over night into saturday and noon and then it should be gone. 250s and 60s on the temps. >> it's san francisco at third and nu come. i have a map of it. the fire has been contained but it's blocking the t-third line. please give yourself a little extra line if you are taking the t-third line. let's go to the live pictures. there is a new accident southbound 880 where a car has

overturned. i do see a fire truck down there but it's reported near hegenberger but i see it down there. i'm wondering if that is where the crash is or if it's on the freeway. but you can see that something is going on. it's reported as an overturned vehicle. also looking at the commute in san jose northbound 280 this traffic looks okay. let's go back to the desk. time is 6:33. immigration reform has hit a whole new level of debate while a lot of immigrants are applauding what the president did last night some opposed to it are not. brian flores is in our newsroom. we have more on the latest developments. >> reporter: i do, dave. the president will head to las vegas later this morning to garner more support of his immigration reform plan. you just heard it moments ago house speaker john boehner about how upset he is on the president acting alone on this. the president announced his plan last night. the president says his plan

will protect an estimated five million undocumented immigrants from deportation. mostly parents who's children are u.s. citizens. immigration advocates applaud the plan. but some are not happy. >> all yearlong i warned the president by taking unilateral action on health care law or threatening action repeatedly on immigration, he was making it impossible to build a trust to work together. and to those members of congress that question my authority to make our immigration work better, or question me about acting with congress has failed, i have one thing, pass a bill. >> reporter: applicants must have been in the u.s. for five years or more, pass a background check, and pay taxes. the union represents janitors and number of them have lost

time is 6:54. welcome back to the morning news. yesterday's rain caused a lot of problems on bay area roads including on the bay bridge. look at this. this is inside the tunnel on the lower deck of the bay bridge. nine inches of water flooded several lanes causing very dangerous problems for drivers heading into oakland.

but there were no reports of any serious crashes. meantime in buffalo, new york at least ten deaths now blamed on the snowstorms there. this weekend rain and warmer temperatures are forecast for buffalo and that means new threats, flooding, and roofs that may collapse under the weight of all of that snow. made heavier by the rain. firefighters have been digging through eight feet of snow and ice and using stretchers to get to people and rescue them from their trapped homes. dramatic end to a police chase in kansas city, missouri. there is a white suv, it swerves to miss that truck and then look slams right into that building. the building comes down. police say the suv was stolen. the driver actually take ton the hospital and is expected to survive after that. there it is again. whole corner of the building comes down on that impact. no one was inside the building
