washer has fallen 11 stories and landed on a darr moving below. it happened in the -- in the financial district at california and montgomery. rob roth is live at the scene to let you know what's happening. >> reporter: police are still on the scene at california and montgomery. what they tell us is that about 10:00 this morning, a window washer was fixing cables from the top of sterling bank and trust building when he fell 11 stories. he landed on the roof or back windshield of a moving toyota camry and rolled to the ground. the stunned driver stopped. now, moments ago, we spoke with a man who says he saw much of what happened. >> i saw something blue falling out of the corner of my eye. it hit the car and there was an enormous shattering of the glass and a loud thud. at that point, i realized it was a human being a person who

rolled in the street. at that point probably 20 of us came to the fellow and people on their cell phones very quickly calling 911. the rest of us were directly traffic. we took good care not to disrupt the inty gri of the bod -- integrity of the body, the spinal cord. a nurse showed up. we covered him in clothes. he was breathing. he was frothing at the mouth. he had some difficulty breathing. it looked like one eye he didn't have control but the other was lucid. he was aware that we were helping him and we were speaking to him in we assuring terms. >> reporter: we're gonna come back live and show you the car. it's still on the intersection. you -- it's pretty smashed up. the man who fell was rushed to the hospital in critical condition but he was alive. one witness he spoke to was gasping for and looked in bad

shape. the air. the intersection around california and montgomery is blocked off as the investigation continues. reporting live in san francisco rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. the driver of the car, is that person okay? >> reporter: yes, that person is okay. he's obvious -- obviously, he's shaken up emotionally. but physically he's unharmed. we've seen him on his cell phone talking to authorities. he's okay. >> all right. thank you, rob. and for continuing coverage including pictures sent to us from viewers from the scene go to ktvu.com and you will find it on the home page. the holiday travel season gets underway today. that means many people will be flocking to bay area airports in the coming days. brian flores joins us live to show us the major b.a.r.t. project opening tomorrow just in time for the travel rush. good afternoon, brian. >> reporter: tori, good afternoon. hopefully this helps out during the busy holiday travel season which gets underway. after years of planning construction, the day has

arrived where b.a.r.t. passengers can stay on a b.a.r.t. train and not take a bus on that last leg toward the tomorrow. tomorrowst starting tomorrow, it starts at 6:00 a.m. this replaces the air/b.a.r.t. bus service. that service ends on the 22nd. passengers can stay on the b.a.r.t. entering one of four automated cars. the cars will pick up passengers every five minutes from either end of the line during the peak hours from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. overall, the line will take eight minutes to drop off passengers in front of terminal one and two. if you are taking the line tomorrow, here's advice when you do. >> get your ticket with the complete ride, including the trip on this new service before you even enter the system. you can only get a ticket at the coliseum side. >> reporter: each of the cars can carry 113 people and b.a.r.t. says there's room to expand if more people want to ride it in

the future. these cars will be unmanned and unlike a typical b.a.r.t. car, there is a control center, however, that is staffed and will control the cars. we also talked about security on this line. b.a.r.t. police say there will be extra measures for that. >> there's security cameras on board. this is one of the spaces that we have dedicated that we have. they will be required to ride the trains even though they are unmanned to make sure everything is going good. >> reporter: overall, this project broke ground in 2010 at the cost of $484 million. this comes on what could be the busiest travel season in seven years. as we take it back out here live, if you want to ride the new line for free, b.a.r.t. is giving away the rides from 1:00 to 3:00 p.m. it's open to the public hopefully this will help out during the hoyle see -- holiday

season. brian flores, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. within the hour, president obama is expected to arrive in las vegas where he's scheduled to insoo the executive order on immigration reform. the signing will be at a school that's 60% latino and it's where the president spoke about reform nearly two years ago. president obama took off from the white house after having to run back in for his cell phone. there he is. but as our reporter reports, republicans were quick to speak out against the action claiming the president is abusing his power by acting without congress. >> my fellow americans -- >> reporter: in a prime time address to the nation, president obama laid out the plans for reforming the nation's broken immigration system. all explaining why he felt the need to act on his own without congressional approval. the best way to solve this problem is by working together to pass that kind of common sense law. but until that happens, there are actions i have the legal authority to take as president. >> reporter: under the new

action, parents of children who are in the united states legally can avoid deportation after submitting to a criminal background check and paying their share of taxes. >> he's damaging the presidency itself. >> reporter: republicans have been warning the president for months not to sidestep the legislative process and are furious he's chosen the go it alone approach. >> the president has chosen to deliberately sabotage any chance of enacting bipartisan reforms that he claims to seek. >> reporter: but the white house counters that lawmakers were unhappy with the executive order. they are free to pass their own immigration bal. gop leaders are looking into legal options to try to repeal president obama's order. >> in the past that was kind of dismissed as something that had no hope. now it seems toob taken more serious -- tosh -- to bic taen more serious. >> reporter: today, jay johnson will go to texas to talk to

security officials there. wheen mile, the president is heading to talk to las vegas where he will sign the orders later this afternoon. back to you. we're monitoring events in missouri where a grand jury decision could come at any time in the police shooting case in ferguson. police there remain on high alert. there were more arrests in ferguson last night as protesters wait to learn if officer darren wilson will be indicted in the shooting death of michael brown. eric holder is out with a new message as police departments here in the bay area and around the country prepare for similar protests. he's urging police to engage with demonstrators in a respectful manner. >> in most cases, these demonstrations have been both meaningful and responsible and have brought vital issues to the attention of the public at large. similarly, the vast majority of officers have defended their

was closing. police are looking for other victims who have been sexually assaulted. the man was arrested. investigators say he portrayed i himself as a student as san jose's independence high school. police say he also used at least five other aliases and they are looking for other victims. snow-covered buffalo, new york, officials say there is a different threat with the weather. why they are rushing ahead of the warmer temperatures. here in the bay area, it is dry this afternoon but rosemary orozco will tell us when wet weather moves back in for the weekend. some middle school students in benicia spent the morning saying dude, be nice. we'll show you how they displayed this phrase at a local church.

against the jets to doe street. it will be played monday night. and tonight's game between the sabres and the new york rangers, that game has been postponed. that snow sure beautiful to look at. i'm sure not beautiful to be in it, at least four feet deep. giving you a live look outside the doors where we have a mix of sun and clouds. the clouds are increasing. this ahead of the next system that will bring us rain later tonight. let's take a look at the satellite. we have a little bit of fog out there. we have a mix of mid and high level clouds as well. but you can see we're dry at the moment. a little bit of patchy fog in santa rosa. if you have a little bit more sunshine out your door this morning or afternoon, chances are you are slightly warmer than you were. some areas like santa rosa and napa, partly cloudy too mostly cloudy and a lot of fog earlier today. still as cool as yesterday. here is a look at the system.

you can see spreading rain over northern california. we're not going to see it during the daylight hours. once we get into the evening hours, the possibility of a little bit of drizzle will come our way. as we get into the overnight hours, that will be the better possibility of rain coming. i think we'll start saturday morning. take a look. we'll pick it up into into the afternoon. you can see by 5:00 getting closer to the north edge of sonoma county. but even the evening drive should be fine. as we get into 9:00, 10:00, becoming more widespread along the coastline maybe along the golden gate bridge. maybe drizzle here for pacifica and half moon bay and into the overnight showers, it will slide through. we're into saturday morning and i think we wake up with light scattered showers. by 8:00, 9:00, it's beginning to pull south. by 3:00 we're actually partly cloudy and dry. so it looks like we have a dry second half of the afternoon on saturday to enjoy. and again we'll see some much- needed rain.

anywhere from .10 to an inch expected. we'll see how that shakes up. 59 in oakland. 55 in santa rosa. a 9 half moon bay. upper 50s, low 60s, concord, livermore. as we get into the afternoon, temperatures will remain on the cool to mild side. upper 50s to low 60s. from the north bay to the east bay, down in the south bay, 62 for san jose for the second half. 63 expected for santa cruz. the extended forecast here with your bay area weekend always in view, so again, a mix of sun and clouds today. overnight into tomorrow morning. the rain is going to arrive. but we break away to partly cloudy skies leaving the possibility of a few scattered showers. we're drying out after that and the models want to bring us dry weather through thanksgiving. >> okay. i know there are a couple of more ski resorts hoping today and tomorrow. does it look like it will stay cold up there? >> yesterday's system brought the snow levels down to 5,000 feet. but tomorrow's system, gonna take them back up. anywhere from 7,000 to 8,000

morning rallies lost some steam but stocks are higher on news of an interest rate cut in china. the dow and s&p should extend yesterday's record highs. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is up 77. the nasdaq up 10. and the s&p is up 9. car lovers are in for a treat. the san francisco auto show kicks off tomorrow at moscone nip sent -- moscone center. the week-long event offers everything from luxury wheels to green machines. >> reporter: high-end rides with hefty price tags.

rolls royces, hundreds of eye- catching cars on display as the 57th annual san francisco auto show rolls into town. visitors will also get a peak at priceless classic stars from the '20s, '30s an '40s and you can see under the hood of hotrods. >> it's an icon in its day. >> we put the flames on it to get the attraction. a lot of little things that make the whole package. >> reporter: while some cars impressed with perfect paint jobs and high-speed performance, some wow with fuel efficiency. i'm taking a spin inside the all new toyota. this is a prototype car that uses hydrogen fuel cell technology. no another trips to the gas station and 300 miles for every fillup. this vehicle will only be available in california starting in late 2015. talk about green.
