. well, good morning to you, you're taking a live look, check it out that is oakland international airport and that is the entrance right there. there are the escalators and the stairs taking you to the new bart connector, the service opened about an hour ago and it's supposed to make things easier it get to the airport during this holiday season and we have our reporter there who will have details there in just a minute. >> good morning, i'm mike me back. >> and i'm claudine wong. the connector is up and running. >> really just in time for the holiday travellers. >> i wonder if it's going to cause confusion. usually you do a train buzz and all that stuff. >> i'm curious about whether or not people are going to use it more, the airport because that's, now, in place instead of anything out of san

francisco or san jose. we'll see, ali, we'll see you in a bit. rosemary we got some green on the board behind me, rain? slick roads, visibility tough in some cases. take a look at this shot here over the oakland estuary, it's a gloomy start out there. if you do have the choice, perhaps stay under the covers just a little longer. this rain will be pulling out for the second half of the day. but, we are on for the morning. let's look where that rain is falling. a weak front moving through. it's in and along the peninsula, it's beginning to go through the east bay and antioch is beginning to see this rain move through. this will continue to slide, about noontime we're beginning to clear out. i'll show you this coming up in a little bit. we'll show you where this rain is in santa rosa and it's crossing over the richmond and

san raphael bridge. we'll see this along the san mateo and oakland and alameda, you're all in the rain this morning. we'll do one last shift into fairfield, antioch and concord seeing a little rain. this is a morning event. we're going to be drying out for the second half over on the futurecast for you and i'll have the temperatures coming up. happening now there is a new way to get to the oakland airport up until today if you want to take bart to the airport, you have to had to hop on a bus. now, you have an option. ali hopped on the connector and she's here to tell us what it all means for bart, the airport and to travellers. >> reporter: the bart airport connector to take oakland airport to the bart station is open for the first time to paying riders this morning. we're at oakland airport, right behind us is terminal 1. when people come out of the terminal

they'll cross the street and come to this instance, it's the -- entrance. it's the entrance to the airport connector. a train must have arrived because people are coming down. once you head up the escalator, there's a roof, you're partially sheltered from the elements, you're partially sheltered. there's a half wall on the platform to shelter you from the rain there. this airport connector will be arriving every five minutes or so up here on the platform. it travels at 30 miles per hour and every five minutes between 8:00 a.m. and 8 p.m. during week days and weekends. that first train left the platform at 6:00 this morning. we have had a chance to talk about it with people who have taken it and most people have said it's a smooth people and convenient for those who have

taken it. these have been riding the train with us all morning to check out how things have been working. this is the platform and waiting area, these tours are where the doors will open when the tram comes back. 7 minutes is when the next train is supposed to arrive. we spoke to people who rode it. >> it's awesome, it's convenient, you don't have to park. >> it's a quiet ride, during the week it will be busy and more money and it will be no different from catching the bus. >> the last gentleman you heard from is an employee from the oakland airport. he mentioned the cost, it's $6 each way. that gets a little expensive. but, as passengers we talked to this morning, it is still cheaper than parking here at the airport. the old bart shuttles that used

to take to the airport it used to cost $3, it's double the cost for what you have to pay. for the most part it's still more convenient. coming up later in the show, we'll talk to people from bart and also from the oakland airport to find out what this means for the future of the oakland airport and for the long term. >> very interesting. we'll see how people like it as the morning progresses. police are looking for a robbery suspect in hayward. they shot down 880 in both directions. someone robbed a chevron this morning. they spotted a vehicle speeding out of the mall. he ditched the car and ran away. they shut down 880 at tennyson road and the northbound lanes at whipple.

they've released a vague description, 5, 11 and african- american and medium bill. he wore a black coat. ferguson, missouri, they've cancelled classes next week. the closure is done out of caution. officials fear potential unrest when the grand jury returns a decision. they're praying for peace, but bracing for violence. >> reporter: many voices in ferguson are urging calm. >> on behalf of the family i reiterate for the um teeth time, they wanted to make it crystal clear, they do not advocate any violence, looting or rioting. >> the family of michael brown,

darrell wilson released this video. >> i thank you for lifting your voices, but looting property and vandalism and hurting people is not the answer. >> all eyes are on us now. >> our children are watching. >> let's make them proud. >> the death of brown back in august sparked days of protests and violence in ferguson. rules of engagement are under way between protestors and police and other groups. >> police will respond to keep everyone safe. >> protestors are anxiously awaiting. >> democracy, it's supposed to be the pride of people. all we're asking is for a fair trial. >> in the last couple of days, police have arrested half a

dozen protestors, businesses have been boarded up. classes have been cancelled next week. and they've spent 100 agents to ferguson to help local law enforcement. there's talk that officer wilson will resign if he is indicted. if he decides to return, he'll undergo psychiatric evaluations. this happened after 8:00 on 27th street and north gate avenue. victims were asleep on that overpass when the accident happened, a man ran into them and one was killed at the scene and one died at the hospital. this happened after 10:00 on california and montgomery streets, a man fell on top of the car. the driver of that car stopped and was not hurt. as you can imagine it was a frightening site for people

walking on the street and all this happened. >> i heard him screaming when he was falling from the sky. it was pretty -- i won't forget that. >> i saw something blue falling out of the corner of my eye, it hit the car and there was a shattering of the glass and a thud. i realized it was a human being. >> that was scary. >> that man was working for century cleaning company and egg osha has 6 months to investigate it. the group collects turkeys to provide a hot meal for those in need. they're hoping to get 1500 turkeys towinated by thanksgiving day. they've collected 40. if you want to help out, you can donate at golden gate avenue both today and tomorrow. a lot of people are going

to watch stanford battle it out. it's the 117th big game. that should be a lot closer than last year. stanford one in a blowout. the cardinal is a 5 to 6 point favorite. this season both football teams have a five and five record. kick off is at 1:00 at memorial stayed i don't remember. there are still tickets available, but if you don't want to brave that cold you can see it on our network fox sports 1. as is tradition before the big game, both schools have rallies ling up for today and they want to set stuff on fire. yes, it's on fire, it's all fake, you can see they're at a distance in those fans. we got the video from instagram. it was pretty packed.

. have you seen this video. this is a teacher in stockton who could be facing a lawsuit for trying to drag that 14-year- old girl no that swimming pool. this is happening during a pe class. the incident happened in august at edison high school. another student was capturing this on her cellphone. the teacher is identified as peterson. he was placed on paid leave and brought back and assigned to another stockton school. the girl's family is planning to sue and he has been charged corporal punishment of a child. >> it should disgust you in the

way he put his hands on a 14- year-old girls. she said my top is falling down. >> the girl's attorney said she did not want to go into the pool because she had her hair done that morning and had an event to go to that night. peterson has been employed in that school district for more than ten years. new this morning, president obama unveiled his plan for immigration reform. >> i think the best way to solve this problem is working together. until that happens i have actions to take as legal authority as president the same actions as presidents have had before me. >> he traveled to a high school yesterday. his executive action also protect undocumented immigrants from deportation mostly parents whose children are us citizens. they must pass a background

francisco and down in san mateo and if we shift to the east, light rain falling in your area, pleasanton, and livermore, it stretches into areas like antioch and oakley. let's pop to the sierra, this system is a warmer one, snow levels are coming up to 7,000 to 8,000 feet this afternoon. it's very windy until 4:00 this afternoon. there's a wind advisory. if you are thinking of heading that direction for the weekend as we get through to the 8 and 9:00 hour we see things taper off a little bit moving into the south bay. we're beginning to dry out over most of the bay area. it's partly cloudy skies for the second half of the day as far as reading for the rainfall, a he have got anywhere from a quarter inch to perhaps half an inch. we can get through the numbers quickly because we're not going to see a lot of change for the

entire day. upper 50s, low 60s outside our door right now. 64 in oakland, 60 for pacifica. low 60s in berkeley for the cal stanford game as well. we're drying out for the second half of the day. we'll be dry on sunday and we get into a warming trend as we head into thanksgiving week and we're looking dry through thanksgiving as well. >> that's nice. people are camping out overnight and things like that. >> as much as we need the rain it's nice to get a break. >> thanks rosemary. >> rain in the bay area means snow in the sierra area. new powder continues to fall which is welcome news for skiers and snowboarders. the challenges ski resorts face to open up those slopes. and as we all know thanksgiving is days away. i took a little visit to turkeys, we're going to introduce you to the turkeys

. welcome back to mornings on 2, rosemary while we were working hard this week, our coanchor went on a backpack and went on an adventure. >> i thought, let's talk turkey. we wanted to find out where some of these turkeys are from, when you go to the frozery, where those -- grocery store. where those come from. we had to drive 2.5 to sonora near yosemite national forest. it's been a family tradition, the happiy turkey's head ranch. >> hello, how are you? >> if the moment you walk through the front gate, you can hear them. >> they're pretty friendly.

>> they like visitors. >> since 1949, the sound of turkeys has echoed down this quiet road in sonora. those happy turkeys, i asked for a tour and they obliged. >> come on, come on. >> they're listening. >> it is all about turkey on the ranch but it is all about family. >> this is the feed mill that my grandpa built in 1952. >> he started this ranch in 1949. >> this is what my uncle and grandpa grew. he was on the front page of the union democrat. >> that's him, he bought it from his dad when he grew up. >> i'm not sure this is a good idea, but you want to do it so, we'll give it a try and that's how that was. >> and now his they kids are in the turkey business.

he admits it's not -- he was not sure it would happen. >> not too many people go into agriculture any more. it's a different world. we did good, i think. >> we picked up extra ones. we're good. >> the extra one they picked up was heidi's husband who works in the same building that was her childhood home. that's one of the art projects and she made that when she was just a kid. >> things have changed through the years, this was a tiny operation. >> one employee. yeah. >> and how many employees do you have now. >> about 250. >> they did everything they know of diesel today. >> what are you guys going to do? >> they don't leave anything for us.

>> every generation brings its own flavor so to speak. >> these guys are just outside. >> and so they live under the trees and they are true country turkeys. >> take a tour around this old farm and you'll find new ideas. >> this is a pasture. we irrigate this grass. this is where the turkeys live. >> they say the goal is not to go too big. >> i don't want it into a huge company. >> while this year's farm will sell a thousand turkey compare that to the large producers. >> all we do is turkeys. >> and this year is a good time to remember why grandpa jack started this in the first place. >> he still roses the turkey, he wants to make sure it's done well. >> and i know for a fact that

claudine wong loved the park when those turkeys responded to you. >> i never interviewed a turkey before. >> they loved you. >> they were listen to me although you feel guilty when you are at a turkey farm at thanksgiving. >> those turkeys look so happy, unaware of their fate unfortunately. >> they've got a little more time. i did check on that. how much time do they have. >> he went from 1 employee to 250, do you see them expanding more, the demand. >> i posted on my facebook this turkey selfie which is the first. they don't want to get so big that they can't, you know, do what they want. it's family own, they want to specialize and make sure -- one of the things i asked them we'll have another story at

. just in time for the holiday rush, whose service is being offered at one bay area airport and when i gave you live pictures right now from on board that new oakland bart outline after years of planning, no more shuttle buses, the disconnect tore from the coliseum to the oakland airport, it's a beautiful site to see. there are a couple of passengers that are taking that. >> it looks cozy and when you see how gloomy it is, and you want to get to the airport and get on your plane. >> you don't have to wait at the bus shelter in the rain. >> it looked like it was rainy when ali was there. >> we'll touch base with ali in

a minute. welcome back i'm mike mibach. >> and i'm claudine wong. rosemary is promising we'll get a break from that rain. how long do we have to wait rosemary? >> that's a big word promise. i think it will be good in the afternoon. this is the sort of day we like. we'll be drying out by the second half, and that will allow us to get outdoors and have fun. i'm giving you a look here into san francisco where it is a soggy start to your morning. if we dive into the radar we'll look at where some of this light rain is falling. it's sweeping through the bay area. it will shift south and east and the south bay you'll get it last, we'll have it earlier in the past. anywhere from a 10th of an inch, napa, santa rosa and novato. if we ship along the peninsula

it's steady here. pacifica, san bruno, around the airport you're seeing light rain. in the east bay it's a steady light rain as well. from hayward, alameda, all these small communities in between, you have light rain falling and san a are money dublin stretching into antioch as well. as we get to the second half of the day, we'll be clearing out. temperatures will be on the cool side. i'll show you how much we'll get and lynn up your numbers coming up happening now, a new ride to the airport. bart launched its new service 90 minutes ago. ali is there getting reaction from the first passengers. >> reporter: we're on board that bart connector taking

people from oakland airport from the bart station. this is the first time that people can take it to and from the airport. we've seen dozens of people riding this thing that has it. we hopped on a car that has no passengers on it. right now where we are, i want to tell you about this. this has a space mountain look, this neon red light. we haven't stopped. this is the midway point of the 3-mile section of the track. there's cables going on this elevated track. this is where they have to change cables. halfway through your trip between the bart and station, we can give you a slowdown. it's rainy and drizzily this morning. right now what you're looking at down the ground is do little

drive. we're between halfway between the bart station and the airport. this goes every five to seven minutes. there's always a train available between 8:00 a.m. and 8 p.m. there's service from 8 p.m. to midnight you you may have to wait longer for a train. taking a look outside, it's spacious and it's been a smooth ride this morning. the inside of this is probably the size of maybe a 1, two bart cars and looking around right now, we're traveling right over hagen burger road. as we'll continuing you'll see we're going over interstate 880 and we'll pull up closer to the bart station on the left. this is the estuary right before. these are bart employees, not passengers, they've been on the trains all morning to make sure

things are running smoothly. it's been a smith ride, very convenient, they like the service, the only complaint we've heard is the price, it's $6 each way if you're riding this thing to and from the bart station, and that's more than $3 people would pay to take the old air bart shuttle. it's more expensive. some people at the airport who work there complained about the cost. they issued a discounted fair for the airport employees if they have to rely on this on a daily basis. this is what it's like. we're coming on interstate 880. there's wal-mart off of hagenburger. the trains come every 5 to 7 minutes. coming up later on this morning we'll be talking more with bart officials and also someone from the oakland airport who will give us more information what this means for the airport long

term. if you're headed to the airport from the bart station this is what your ride looks like. we'll check back with you guys a little later on in the show. >> thank you very much. double the price but very convenient and a lot cheaper. caltrans is explaining what caused nodding in a portion of the tunnel friday night. it flooded during the rainstorm. the extra half inch of water caused a maps sieve backup during the evening commute. caltrans says the explanation is quite simple. the area got a lot of rain all at once, we cannot control mother nature. if there is a significant downpour in a quick period of time we can't be sure what that rain will do. >> by the time crews got there the water has subsided and they made sure everything was draining properly. a man is facing felony charges in connection with a

drunk driving crash. this man was speeding and driving in a white toyota and he crashed into a red nissan on couch street. witnesses said he was going 90 miles per hour. a good samaritan heard the crash and ran over to help and he saw the driver of the toyota and he was getting out. he said where are you going, i wanted to say you're going to get the police. i said you're not going to go anywhere and he fell to the ground. now, there were two men in the red nissan, the driver died at the hospital. the passenger is in serious condition. he's facing felony drunk driving and hit and run and felony charges. people are responsible for a threat against a high school. someone sent a e-mail for a mass shooting at a high school. police and officials say they

received 100 apology e-mails and tweets after that incident. someone is claiming responsibility. >> it's not often people come to you by twitter or some other means telling you that they've created a -- committed a crime. >> if it comes to a point we have to hunt them down and serve someone at their home. we're going to do it in an aggressive way because they failed the opportunity to peacefully turns it in. >> it was an honor student who was studying technology and they're closing in on the threat. people will pay $4 extra on your water bay, if it's approved, the charges will go into effect around january 2nd. the rate hike will be

. it is the day skiers have been waiting for. the season is officially under way in the sierra. >> if you're planning on heading up to tahoe get ready to be in good company. >> joining us we have sally, the communications manager for the ski resort. you're smiling already. you're always nervous, you're actually going to be open in time for thanksgiving, how are things looking up there. >> we had our opening day yesterday on friday, and we have very excited people out

there. we have 14 acres and 1.5 miles of skiable terrain. we'll have additional terrain open for guests. >> that's good news. >> sally this is rosemary i do weather in the studio it looks like the snow levels are coming up a little bit for today and it looks like it's windy. >> winds are impacting so we're starting the day on wind hold. it's raining at lake level and snowing up on the mountain. most of the terrain is at 9,000 feet and we're in good shape. and we'll deal with the wind if it means new snow. >> with the thanksgiving coming up and december and the new year, what new things can folks in the bay area expect as they make their way up there? >> well, we'll look to open mortar rain as we move along and you'll expect great surface conditions, we have a lot of on

mountain parties, and the apres party which is 3:30 to 5:30 as well as a free young giant concert on december 13th in our heavenly village. people are excited about that. >> it looks awesome. sally, i have to tell you, i'm a skier and i go to heavenly a lot. there's a difference, between if you really want it, and you're so ready and you don't care if it's awesome snow or not and there's the point of the season where this is awesome because mother nature has helped out. how much of the mountain -- we're just going to break it down for people in terms of what their expectations, is it the man made stuff, how much coverage are we getting, are we seeing rocks? how much coverage do we have out there? >> most of the snow is machine made snow. it's in great condition. people yesterday, the comment i kept hearing the most is that they were surprised how great

looking for a robbery suspect in the section of hayward. police tell us someone robbed a chevron on this boulevard before 12:30 this morning. a vehicle matching the get away car speeding out of the mall. he was chased on 880 and he ditched the car and ran away. the north and southbound lanes at whipple, they have a description of the suspect, he's described as a 5, 11 medium bill and he wore a black ski mask and coat. the grand jury continues to investigate the deadly shooting of 18-year-old michael brown. the closure of schools is done out of caution out of fears of unrest when the grand jury comes down with a decision when

drying out at this point and over the south bay with a few residual showers expected for your lunch hour and by 1:00 partly cloudy and that we will be remaining partly sunny for the entire afternoon, which means that it will be a dry one for the stanford cal game for the second half of the day. and giving you a look at some of the rainfall totals so far. take a look at mill valley, reporting more than an inch of rain, which will be great news there. meanwhile santa rosa picking up a tenth of an inch. but they reported three quarters as we are sort of all over the place, expecting it as we get further to the south as you'll be able to see the accumulations that will be continuing to rise in areas along the east bay, but that the south bay, probably not so much and that the winds have been a little breezy as you heard them mentioning the benches, a little tough this morning in addition to the wet roadways, a little breezy with the fog and that visibility that will be low for some and temperature wise we're in the 50s and the lower 60s this morning. and for the afternoon, not a lot of change. we have low to mid-60s in the forecast for the second half of the day and 64 for oakland and 63 in san rafael and 63
