fenced off now. it's gutted inside and unsafe to enter, except for fire personnel. but for some 40 years it's been home to a man, who lived large, until slowed by disability. >> the smoke billowing out of the house. >> reporter: neighbors on avocado court called 911 and ran to his house, feeling his front doors, hot to the touch. they heard no smoke alarms. >> unfortunately there doesn't seem to be any working snohomish detectors that could have possibly alerted him to the fire. >> he had bad legs. he had a hard time getting away. >> reporter: joann trompetti at the scene hours later says her 69-year- old brother doug was found nichen at the front of the house. his health had declined the past decade. >> i talked to him every night, everyday. >> he had three wheelchair. he would go on one wheelchair to another. >> he said you worry about me

too much, and i did. >> reporter: trompetti says the fire started in her brother's bedroom to the back, possibly from a cigarette and spread. >> he just left the hospital and they said he was burned on his left leg and he had like a sunburn on rest of risbody. >> he looked like he had passed when they pulled him out, but they tried to resuscitate him and sent him to the hospital. >> trompetti could not be revived. they had had seen medical care here. >> they wanted to put him in the va and he didn't want to government he to go. >> now i lost him. him and i were really close. >> reporter: trompetti says her brother was

meantime hope that a sketch will help them find a man who they say tried to lure a 7-year- old in the restroom at a city park. attempted sexual assault happened at lafayette park in the pacific heights neighborhood. police say the suspect tried to pull the child into the girl's restroom at the park. the suspect is described as a white male about 6'11", 30-40 years old with brown hair and eyes wearing a orange hood sweatshirt with gray and black letterses on the front. a native-american group plans to protest tomorrow at the game. activists have demanded that the washington team changes they name from "redskins." they have been demonstrating in other nfl city including this protest a few weeks ago in minneapolis. the team's owner refuses to change the name, but the political pressure is building. recently the california assembly called on nfl to take action on controversy. authority northeast bay shut down a stretch of

interstate 880 as they searched for a robber. hayward police say it started with the man robbed the chevron station this morning. police chase him to interstate 880 and officers he bravely shutdown the southbound lanes at tennisson and northbound lane waitle. police say the man ditch the car and ran away. there is a vague description of him, described as being black, 5'11, wearing a black ski mask and green coat. just days after president obama announced immigration reform a south bay family is looking forward to the future. ktvu's cristina rendon talked to the family about their renewed hopes of staying together. >> reporter: when fernando herrera isn't working is he a full-time dad to his four daughters and husband to wife arlette. >> i love him. >> fernando is the family's rock, but even he gets nervous talking about a painful experience that nearly tore

them apart. >> the 35-year-old says he thought he was never going to see his family again after being detained by immigration officials in july, 2012 following a dui charge. fernando sun documented and was almost deported to mexico. >> i don't wish for anybody to go through this. >> reporter: arlette says was held for two months while she was pregnant with her fourth daughter nicole. >> it was hard for me. it was really hard, because i wasn't working. i was two months before i gave birth. >> fernando says thanks to god he posted an immigration bond and returned home depot in time form nicole's birth and now has a work visa a plied under new guidelines set by president obama. >> i have faith in god and i have faith in god he is going to be here with me without any problems. his deportation is going to be removed. >> reporter: and that their girls will have

their dad. >> he wants to give them a better future. >> reporter: she says the only way to do that is if their family stay together. >> i know many people don't want us here, but we all deserve a chance. >> reporter: in santa clara county, cristina rendon, ktvu channel 2 news. a rainy few days. >> some showers this morning, but it cleared up by this afternoon. meteorologist mark tamayo is adding up the numbers for us. >> we have been talking about three storms over the past few days and it's going to be a long-term journey, but we'll take any drop we can get. as far as the rainfall totals really adding up. wednesday's system, thursday's system and the one this morning, look at mill valley, over 3" of rain, in fact, approaching 4". kentfield over 4 pynch, santa cruz mountains 2.64 and san francisco not as much, but by contrast, look at san josi, only .16th" since wednesday. in terms of the rainfall totals

hundreds of non-native fish. earlier this month federal park officials poisoned mountlake in the presidio. it's the first phase of a program to try to restore the lake. officials announced yesterday they have had pulled owe out more than 850 fish mostly carp and bass, but no native fish. the plan is to restock the lake with sticklebacks, western pond turtles and white house frog in what is called an amnexty pond is planned nearby for people to dump their pet fish. central japan expose r experienced dozens of aftershocks after a major earthquake. 6.2 quake hit outside of the city of nagano. the temblor destroyed houses in aville village that hosted events during the 1998 winter olympic games. rescuers saved more than a dozen people trapped by fallen houses. the quake was felt in tokyo, but it happened far inland and there was no tsunami. also today a 5.9 earthquake in western chincooa killed two people. it's a race against the

clerk as towns near buffalo, new york, race for flooding following the record snow. dump trucks are working to clear the snow that has piled up since this week's storm. a flood watch is in effect and temperatures are expected to hit 60 degrees. the region is trying to clean up quickly so the snow doesn't melt and then cause widespread flooding. >> this has been a great, great cooperative effort. you have the national guard in here. you have another communities. we have other counties from throughout the state that have been helping. >> the snowstorm is blamed for at least a dozen death, including a driver trapped on the interstate. new york's governor said that the snow caught the region by surprise, but that the buffalo area is ready to deal with any flooding. new at 10:00 a gun buyback program in castro croft county ended up bringing in 200 weapons. according to pittsburg police 199 weapons were turned in and of those three were assault

. it's an anxious time in ferguson, missouri, the town is bracing for a grand jury decision on whether or not to charge police officer darren wilson with the death of teenager michael brown? as garrett tenney reports that decision could come anytime. >> just a few feet from where his son was shot and killed had summer, michael brown, sr. went door-to-door handing out free turkeys and volunteering in the community that has given so much support to his family. >> all of the things that we're doing for the community. i appreciate that. >> many in ferguson want to move beyond the violence, protest and hatred that

erupted. >> they want people to be calm. >> there will are people in fergson that want to continue to do positive thing. >> peggy fall is one of dozens of community volunteers involved in the "i love ferguson" campaign, raising money by selling ferguson memorabilia, including shirts and bumper stickers and christmas ornaments in order to help area businesses beaten and broke down during summer riots. so far the group has raised $75,000 and all of it goes back to rebuilding the city. former ferguson mayor brian fletcher started the campaign not on the to help the local economy pick baton rouge, but change how the city is perceived. >> the tragedy occurred here and it's an opportunity for us to learn and become stronger and i better community. >> reporter: still residents are bracing for backlashes as they wait for a grand jury decision on whether officer darren wilson should stand trial in the shooting death of michael brown? >> many of us have boarded-up

a way to actually get the word out, and to indicate that interest there is a sense of i indignation about things that are less than just and less than fair. >> los angeles was the site of huge riots in 1992. those riots began after four white police officers were acquitted in the beating of black motorist rodney king. there there are numerous reports that president obama has sign a classified order allowing u.s. troops in afghanistan to continue their combat role for a year longer than originally planned. according to those reports 98 00 troops will remain for another year and have a direct role in fight. back in may the president said troops would not take place in combat operations come 2015 and instead would only train afghan search and serve search for members of al-qaeda. >> the new presidential order allows jets and bombers and

drones to support troops on combat missions. demonstrators in turkey chant "yankee go home." they were protesting vice president joe biden meeting with the turkish president. biden wants it turkey to step up it's role in the fight against islamist extremists. biden also announced that the u.s. will give an additional $135 million in humanitarian aid to help feed civilians affected by syria's civil war. 28 people were killed today in a pre-dawn attack on a bus in northern kenya. witness say al-shabab gunmen single out of passengers by citing from the qur'an and those who could not were shot in the head. the somalia-based islamist group is hoping to start a religious war and one local official called today's attack

as a stand-in on the cosby show and says bill crosby touched her inappropriately and asked her to come to his house take showers of the hurd is more than a dozen womens who made claims of inappropriate behavior and sexual assault by cosby. the los angeles school district will pay a record amount to settle a long stand ing and horrific case of sexual abuse by teacher mark berndt. the abuse including blind folding, gag and making the children eat food that contained his semen. the attorney for the families says multiple generations were hurt. >> at miramonte there were two perpetuators, mark berndt and those in the administration successive allegions from 1983 to the present who ignored and

some instances actively concealed what he was doing. >> berndt is serving a 25-year sentence. back in 2012 he pleaded no contest to more than 20 counts of lewd conduct. >> a sad story from the look zoo a rare big horn sheep died after escaping from the zoo. the sheep got out about noon and wandered around griffith park area before a driver hit it and fled. zookeepers aren't sure how the sheep escape its exhibit. desert big horn sheep are an endangered species in the wild. st. anthony's dining room kicked off the annual cushside turkey drive, making it easy to donate with the turkey fast plain, where donors can drive up and volunteers take the donation right out of your car and even go into your trink and pull it out. so organizers say there is still a need excite an improving economy. >> economic times determine a lot of what we do around here.

. just in time for holiday travel bart opens a new direct train line to oakland airport. taking the place of buses that would sometime leave fathers stuck in traffic. allie rasmus with an inside look at the new oakland airport connector on its first day of service. >> wheels up, doors shut, all aboard the brand-new bart director. >> it's quiet and well-lit and clean. >> reporter: was the first time paying passengers could take the 3- mile long ride between the coliseum bart station and oakland airport and the shuttle buses that used to transport people are now a thing of the past and passenger s from the coliseum bart never have to leave the station, coming up the escalator and to the

. the occupation of wheeler hall on the usc berkeley campus is set is to stretch into another day as students refuse to leave in protest of planned tuition hikes. paul chambers is live at cal, after talking to demonstrators who say they have no plans to pack up their protest p.l.a. heather, that is so correct. i just walked out of wheel hall and they say they do not plan to leave anytime soon, but there is something within university that they would like to see leave, that is the president. just real quick, again, the point of information -- for the fourth tight in a row cal students came together in a general assembly. saturday night's numbers pale in comparison to the hundreds who marched through the campus

collected letters from kids in san francisco, all of them addressed to you know who? santa claus at the north pole. the postal district launched it's annual make children's wishes come true campaign. kids used color markers to write their letters to santa with the hopes of having their christmas wishes fulfilled. >> this is a fun thing, but we actually make sure that santa claus gets the letters and make sure they are opened and all the elves look at them and of course we put the needy ones to the top of the pile and if the public wants to respond to the letters we open that up to the public. >> the san francisco office on evans street will be open the first three tuesdays on december to give you opportunity to pick up a letter and help santa make the i wishes come true. ubrilliant sunset over san francisco. the third round of rain moved out and brought nice sunshine to parts of bay area for your saturday afternoon. >> it's such a pretty shot, but not enough to get us out of our drought, but a nice start to the rainy season and mark says there is more on the way. >> we will take whatever drop we can. that light to moderate rainfall you how old thought it would be rainy all day, but that was not

the case and that was the forecast, clearing skies for the afternoon hours. live stormtracker 2 showing you storm clouds moving out of the bay area. >> right now we're mostly clear skies and partly cloudy skies. here is the wider perspective. you can see the live doppler sweep and the main stormtracker heading to the north of the bay area, but with all of the that moisture in place we have fog forming in the central valley. visibilities down .25 file to half a mile and than developing and already fog reports towards concord and the fairfield areas. napa, cooling off and san francisco mid-50s and for tonight, partly cloudy and cool. tomorrow some areas of dense fog out. there be careful with the dropoff in visibility, especially between:00 and 7:00. and then the extended forecast a warming trend, talking about some 70s out there. tonight we're talking about lots of fog with the recent rainfall, there is some moisture on the ground. lots of moisture, you stable

weather pattern and fog forms. when the temperature drops down to the dewpoint, you have the fog forming as typically happens out towards napa and santa rosa and the concord area as well. >> head's up, first thing tomorrow morning, fog will be able formality out. there coolest locations in the up upper 30s, napa, san francisco 50 degrees and san josi starting out of the day in the upper 40s. so we have been tracking three systems this wik. the last one in the series is now scooting out to the south and east. this is the front that produced the rainfall this morning, a dry weather pattern developing and high pressure returns. so the stormtracker heads to the north and with this high in place you will notice the change in temperatures warming back up for monday and tuesday. by tuesdays warmest locations back into the low pressures. as far as rain chances nothing showing up in the five-day forecast, but possibly next weekend. we could be tracking some more

raindrops and, in fact, possibly significant rainfall. we'll be welcoming that in the long-range forecast. for tomorrow morning, watch out federal court fog and higher clouds approaching the region in the afternoon hours. we have a few high clouds throughout the day and temperatures for tomorrow afternoon, lots of 60s. santa rosa 65 degrees, san francisco 64 and brentwood in the mid-60s san josi 65 and half-moon bay, 64. the look head your next question five-day forecast and temperatures trending up for monday, tuesday and wednesday. in fact, look at tuesday and wednesday, warmest locations back up into the lower 70s. there is the turkey i choose for the five-day forecast. for thanksgiving, looks fine, partly sunny skies but after the turkey moves out of time, could be tracking raindrops of a chance for friday, but a better bet a week from today and sunday as well. >> get through thanksgiving and could be rain again. >> positive news for the bay area forecast. >> thank you, mark. coming up it's college football rivalry week. >> it certainly is as stanford
