now at noon, bay area officials are monitoring a storm on the east coast that's caused hundreds of flight cancellations across the country. is it impacting thanksgiving travel here in the bay area. a second day of cleanup for some businesses in oakland after overnight protesters smashed windows and, again, stopped traffic on local freeways. half a dozen people shot while leaving a concert in san francisco. good afternoon.

i'm tori campbell. the campus has been evacuated because of what the school calls a credible threat. students and faculty have been evacuated. the school says on their website, if you're not at school, do not come at this time. right now we're working to learn more about exactly what this credible threat is. we have news chopper 2 headed that way, and we have an update for you on this school threat at west valley college in saratoga coming up later in this newscast. an east coast storm threatens travel. more than 550 flights have been canceled nationwide with the bulk in the northeast. the bay area airports are beginning to feel the impact. we begin with ktvu's brian

flores. >> reporter: good afternoon. airport officials say they're keeping a close eye on the nor'easter that could potentially cab sell flights this afternoon and into the evening. right now, there are only delays at the airports along the east coast that are affected by this storm. airport officials again say right now it's about an hour and a half from philadelphia. moments ago, we heard of delays to boston and jfk for about an hour. there are 189 minute delays mostly impacting connecting flights and while it looks like it's just -- for now, the potential remains for cancellation as the day progresses. as for the east coast, however, several hundred flights have been canceled. as you mentioned, 550 flights are canceled nationwide. it's only expected to increase. if you're headed to the east coast, you should know some airlines are being very flexible in terms of chaining

your schedule, if you can. >> their best advice on a day like today is to check with your airline before coming back to the airport. the other thing we're noticing is airlines on their websites are allowing partials to make -- passengers to make temporary changes in light of the weather. >> so far so good. it's on time when we just checked. we're hopeful -- we know chicago delays. we're hopeful it will stay that way. >> airport officials estimate that 135,000 people are going to go through fso today, however, it is not considered the busiest travel day. last friday was the peak day. i also called oakland international airport as well as san jose, and they say there are no major delays or cancellations. we'll keep in track of this throughout the day here on ktvu channel 2 news. live at fso, brian flores. the storm that's blowing

through the northeast, cities are seeing mostly rain, but inland areas are getting quite a bit of snow. they're tracking the east coast storm. >> this is not the day we want to be tracking the storm out there. very busy travel day. this is all focused as we've heard. current temperatures across the nation. california -- as we take a look at the forecast, first a look at the radar. you will notice this, the coverage is really focused for the portions of the eastern seaboard, especially for northern half. here you can't pick out the rainfall and the snowfall coverage as well in those areas. that's when you have a mix. now, new york right now reporting temperature in the 30s. light snow, some fog, mist, winds gusting to 18 miles per hour, a closer look at the radar here. we'll heed up to the north. there's a fine line with the rain-snow mix. also out toward the west here, we have all these areas shaded

in white, and that's significant snowfall on the order of 8-12 inches. that's really pushing into the region, and the storm is moving from the south to the north. the conditions will continue to deteriorate over the next 12 hours. not good news for travelers. the bay area, we're tracking a storm as well, not for today or tomorrow. we'll have more on that. significant rainfall coming up in about 10 minutes. >> thank you, mark. taking a live look now at the bay area, road conditions, if you're hitting the road and driving to your nfc destination, this is a live look at traffic in san francisco. traffic looks pretty heavy right there, especially on the left side of the screen. folks headed fairly slowly in both directions. looking at berkley right now, i want to show you can scene on interstate 80. traffic looks quite heavy for

the noon hour, but, again, this is getaway wednesday for a lot of folks. for up to the minute traffic conditions, just go to ktvu.com and look under the traffic tab. tensions spilled over into this morning over the decision not to indict a ferguson, missouri police officer. a line of demonstrators walked onto interstate 5 in san diego, backing up morning commute for miles. some drivers even get out of their vehicles and confronted the protesters. the protesters left after police and chp arrived. miles an houring on to nearby streets, there are no reports of any arrests. and the protests continue for a second night nationwide in ferguson. 58 people were arrested. crowds were caught flipping a police cruiser, torching several other cars. overall, st. louis county police say there were fewer instances of vandalism compared to monday night.

that's because mainly 1400 national guard reinforcements were brought in yesterday to help contain protesters. and in oakland it was another night of fires, looting, graffiti, and vandalism. monday night it happened along broadway. last night protesters lit up telegraph avenue for second night of violence after the grand jury's decision regarding the mike brown case. hundreds of protesters angry over the ferguson decision set trash bins on fire. shattered windows and looted stores. >> it's senseless, you know, act. it's not going to get you nowhere. >> they broke a window on telegraph, knocking over shelves and stealing food. >> it's not fixing anything. you know, it's not going to change anybody's decision of what happened somewhere else. >> demonstrators hit businesses along telegraph between 34th 34th and 51st street. including mcdonald's and t- mobile that was ran zached.

-- ransacked. they smashed all of these windows. they stole cans of paint and spilled it all over the roadway before they continued their march down telegraph. >> they were walking down the street with gallon of paint in each hand and through them through the windows. >> he says he understands people's frustration, but he just wanted to protect his business. >> i was here. i was holding a buddy and i, once they broke this door, he put his -- he positioned his bicycle in front so that we could keep them from coming in. cleaning crews worked overnight sweeping up glass, getting rid of graffiti and boarding up windows. one man is mad at the damage being done. >> we don't have anything against anybody that's protesting. we're just trying to stay in business here. we don't need. this is the

second night of destructive protests. while people would like to move forward, they're bracing for another round of possible violence tonight. >> we're now hearing from the police officer who shot and killed michael brown in ferguson, missouri last august. officer darren wilson says he feared for his life. >> can i shoot this guy? legally, can i? my answer was i have to. he'll kill me if he gets to me. >> the confrontation began when he saw brown walking in the middle of the street. he said brown refused to move over. then wilson says brown repeatedly punched him while wilson was still in his police car. >> i had reached out my window with my right hand to grab onto his forearm. i was going to try to move him back. i felt the immense power that he had. the way i've described it, it

we're waiting for the alameda county coroner's office to identify a man who was shot to death in a popular hiking trail in the hills. a hiker reported hearing gun fire in the huckleberry regional preserve. moments later, she found the man's body on the trail. investigators worked into the night looking for clues to the deadly shooting. >> i heard multiple gunshots, and shortly there after, i came upon a white male that appears to be in his 50s. investigators searched a car that was parked in a lot three quarters of a mile from where the body was found. they did not say if they found anything in the car. police also called in k9 units to help with their investigation. gun fire and chaos outside of san francisco nightclub early this morning, and now police are investigating a shooting that left six people injured.

ktvu's alex savage tells us about the concert that led up to the violence. >> bullet casings covered the ground in san francisco after a shooting here that left six people wounded. it happened around 12:45 this morning at the club on mission street. the place was packed for a hip- hop concert. just as the crowd was leaving. gun fire. >> everybody is walking out. we talked with one man who attended the show, featured two san francisco rappers. this witness was worried about showing us his face. he described a frightening scene. >> talking about mayhem everywhere. you have people bleeding in front of you. you know what i'm saying? it wasn't a good situation, man. i saw three people laying on the ground. >> people were taken to the hospital by paramedics while two others showed up at the hospital. all are expected to survive. there are cameras at this club

that can help investigators identify the people responsible for this shooting. on top of that, there are a number of homes and businesses nearby with surveillance cameras as well. >> police believe this was the drive by, a car pulled up and someone opened fire into the crowd. many concert goers ducked back inside. >> i just thank god it wasn't me that was shot. >> police haven't said who was targeted in this shooting or what prompted this violent outburst near a busy club. alex savage, ktvu channel 2 news. happening today, the california highway patrol starts a maximum enforcement of traffic laws for the long holiday weekend. thanksgiving weekend is one of the busiest travel periods of the year. officers will be looking for speeders or people driving under the influence. last year 33 people were killed on california highways during the extended holiday period. the chp will be out in full

force starting at 6:00 tonight and all of sunday night. a thanksgiving tradition was carried out this morning in san francisco in an effort to help feed the less fortunate. the fire chief were among the volunteers who carved turkeys at the harbor light center. they along with police and firefighters helped carve more than 4,000 pounds of turkey. tomorrow salvation army volunteers will deliver more than 5,000 meals to scene yours and others -- seniors and others confined to their homes around the city. >> we're home delivering thanksgiving meals tomorrow so they're not left out of the thanksgiving blessing. >> the salvation army says there are a lot of people in the city in need of care this thanksgiving and it encourages people to help out any way they can. a youth football team from richmond is receiving an outpouring of support by putting out a plea to the

community. the steelers cadettettes just won but many of the players cannot afford to travel to the tournament in florida. after asking for help through a go fund me account. the team has raced more than $27,000, well over its goal of $20,000. it appears to be florida bound. the tournament begins december 7 december 7th. well, another round of hazy sunshine across the bay area. the quiet weather across the nation, happening right here. temperatures, recovering nicely. this time up next week, we'll be measuring rainfall in inches. that gives you an idea of what will be happening over the next few days. not happening today or tomorrow. we cover the main focus of the weather today along the eastern seaboard. for us, scattered high clouds. there's a weather system out here in the pacific, but it remains up here to the north and tomorrow for thanksgiving, it will be dry. so for today, just hazy

sunshine out there. a big travel day. headed to lake tahoe as well. looks clear. no snowflakes to worry about. i know you will have to worry about the snowflakes on the way home. 61 degrees. livermore 67. we'll take a quick peek as your thanksgiving forecast for tomorrow morning. temperatures in the upper 30s for the lower 50s and high clouds throughout the afternoon. 64 to right around 60 degrees. few high clouds tomorrow and then into friday, friday late afternoon into the evening hours, we bring in a chance of scattered rain showers, especially up in the north and then the first wave really moves in saturday. it's not the most impressive, but things will be changing. things ramping up. here's the pattern once again. keeping things dry right on through thanksgiving. hazy sunshine. the pattern is developing now. setting up the one that will develop into the weekend. the series of storms, pushing into the region.

rain returns this weekend. heavy rain is likely especially as we head into monday and tuesday into early next week. it could be a deal that lasts from saturday right on through early wednesday morning with the much needed rainfall pushing into the region. here we go with the forecast model through friday. a chance of rain showers and right on through the weekend, the flow really sets up into monday and early tuesday morning. the waves of rain will be heavy at times. i think we'll have urban and flood advisories, some wind advisories kicking in. get ready for a significant change. temperatures for this afternoon mainly in the 60s and 70s. san jose 72. half-moon bay 67 degrees. here's a look ahead at your 5- day forecast. high clouds for all the turkeys out there. the increase in clouds for friday. there we go the rain clouds for saturday and sunday. we desperately need the rainfall. i have a feeling we'll be too much in a short amount of time.
