the parties. siting them, taking them to jail, towing their cars. >> this area has been a popular spot for side shows but there have been other scenes. in september 100 cars spun donuts on 42 street. a video shows that event and in october a chp tried but failed to pull over autunite rider. he was -- a stunt rider. he was one of 50s doing wheelies. he was arrested. the chp handled last night's side show as oakland police were tied up with protests. the protests got violent. security guards at one business decided to fight back. last night a ktvu photographer captured the guards trying to hold back a group of protesters. at one point a guard was on top of one of the demonstrators.

coming up a closer look at the damage from the third night of protests. it is quieter in ferguson, missouri tonight since the monday night announcement. darren wilson will not be indicted in the shooting death of michael brown. how some people are trying to clean up. >> chuck: protests die -- >> reporter: protests dying down, two days after a grand jury decided not to indict darren wilson for the shooting of michael brown. the next step for residents and cleaning up the damage left by the chaos. debris, broken windows and charred remains. business owners returning to cover up their stores and protect whatever they have left from luters. but some -- looters but some say ferguson is more than what is on the news. >> this is my ferguson. the stuff that happens at night and the people on the news,

complete bay area news coverage continues right now, this is ktvu channel 2 news at 5:00 p.m. >> protesters damaged businesses in downtown oakland. they are angry over a grand jury decision not ocharge officer -- to charge the officer in ferguson, missouri. many businesses spent thanksgiving cleaning up. with many questions the violence, ktvu's john sasaki shows us the tempers flared outside one business. >> reporter: a ktvu camera was

rolling as protesters vandalized oakland businesses one night. two security guards beat them and took baseball bat. but in most cases no production of property existed. dozens of businesses had broken windows or graffiti or both. >> outrages me. as citizen we are way more progressive than this. >> reporter: he said one of his friends was mistakenly arrested while watching the protests. still he agreed with the protesters message but not their methods. >> this is not just about michael brown, this is about, you know, this is about rich and poor, the society, i mean, we just got to not break stuff. especially oakland. >> reporter: the building on broadway was also damaged. some destruction has reached up tell graph avenue upsetting res

dependents. >> it hurts my heart. we worked really hard at building a better city and to see people who would take advantage of an opportunity to vandalize and destroy property is quite disheartening to me. >> reporter: one business is a long time pillar of the community whose job it is to report on social justice. they had numbers brokens and shared video of the vandals. a man with a baseball bat broke window after window outside the news room. the scutch on the edge of the -- church is on the edge of the zone. after three mights they were giving the needy a thanksgiving meal. but the ruling in ferguson and the damaging protests weigh heavily on his mind. he spoke to the protesters. >> i understand you are frustrated but there is a

better way to release your frustration. what happened has happened. step back. think about it and find a way to make a positive difference. >> reporter: a sentiment shared by many. john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. firefighters in san francisco are investigating the cause of a one alarm fire in hunters point. the flames broke out around 7:15 a.m. this morning in a abandon warehouse. firefighters rescued a woman by ladder. she was taken to the hospital for treatment. no other injuries were reported. two crashes shut down 880 this morning. one was deadly. the first accident happened around 2:30 a.m. year the west "a" street off ramp. two cars collided sending a car sideways. another vehicle crashed into the car killing the driver. the california highway patrol arrested the driver of the

third vehicle on suspicion of dwi. the second accident happened around 5:00 a.m. this morning. as of tonight all lanes are back open. call for a boycott on this black friday. it is called blackout for human rights. he says a boycott would send a message about inequality and social justice. >> gets people who feel powerfulless -- [ indiscernible ] >> what would be better is to get all of the african americans to vote, vote, change the leadership, change the people that are in authority. >> he says that he suggests calls for political change are

a more lasting way. thanksgiving tradition for a church that is a staple in san francisco for decades. ktvu's alex savage takes us to glide memorial where many people spent thanksgiving giving back. >> thanksgiving tradition at glide in san francisco as people poured into the dining haul this morning for a hot meal served up with a warm smile. >> great thing. you know? a lot of people that need help. >> glide dished out turkey and sides for 5,000 people in need today. all those meals were made possible by these volunteers. they carved up ham and turkey and many folks have been coming back here year after year. he is a glide regular who says giving back makes him feel great. >> someone is always less fortunate and i feel like by coming here and helping i know

someone will appreciate it. >> reporter: mayor ed lee proud to see san san francisco's generous spirit shine through on thanksgiving. >> this city is all about people connecting with each other. if we could find ways in which our compassion for each other are demonstrated over and over again. >> reporter: it was also a busy morning across town at the salvation army where a team was making thanksgiving meals to go and they even let me hop in to the assembly line. the salvation army is delivering 3500 sealed meals to people who can't leave their home because of age or illness. >> amazing how many people don't have food. all this food -- so many volunteers, amazing. >> reporter: a rewarding day of service, preparing meals that make a huge difference taso many.

and they are off. today was the running of the turkey trot with 26,000 runners it is the largest in the -- largest in the country. ktvu's noelle walker was there as the runners hit their marks. >> reporter: while some of us were sleeping in or up cooking for thanksgiving runners were checking in and warming up for the big race. a really big race. with more than 26,000 people pounding the pavement. >> they want to kickoff their holidays in a healthy way. >> the turkey trot is the largest race of its kind this holiday. >> so you can burn a few calories before you consume a few thousand later on today.
