black friday is in full swing. there is lots of deals to be had out here. but not too many crowds. we'll explain why. fog to contend with this morning. rain for your weekend. i'm tracking the changes in the weather coming up. >> and we hope you are in a generous mood this black friday. we need your help. we need your gently used coats. drop them off around the bay area. this is part of the warm coat drive. more than a million passengers expected to travel through sfo before the weekend is over. will the fog and storm cause problems?

opting to shop online and they wentshopping yesterday. look for restrictions, limited supplies, cutoff time and don't forget, of course, to comparison shop. you have big half who have here at the express and a lot of the clothing stores are offering half off. pretty good deals to be had if you have any clothes that you need to get this holiday season. live in concord, i'm tara moriarty a lot of people get out there now that they know the weather will move in this weekend. people are less prone to shop when we have rain across the bay area. go ahead, tara >> reporter: i almost didn't want to say that the gap was 50% off because i don't want people to go and take all the clothes that i want to get, you know. so i will tell you that there are a lot -- i want to coop it hush, hush. now everybody knows. the cat's out of the bag. there are a lot of really good.

hollister is another store that is going half off. that makes it easier when everything that you looking at is half off. you pick whatever you want and put it in the shopping cart. >> thanks for the inside look. thanks, tara. appreciate it. time now is 7:07. some stores in oakland were hit hard by this week's vandalism from the ferguson protest and they could stay closed. for three consecutive nights, protesters smashed windows, scrolled gravities. 170 people did get arrested. >> you know, as a citizen of oakland, we are way more progressive than this. >> churches are reaching tout protesters. the greater faith missionary baptist church sits on the edge of the damaged zone. the reverend tells demonstrators that he does understand their frustration but he is asking them to step

back and channel those frustrations into ways that make a positive difference in their community oakland hopes that free parking will encourage people to shop downtown. drivers can park for free at thee city-owned garages, lots and street meters that deal is going to be in place every saturday through new year's day. oakland's mayor elect says that downtown businesses could use the boost this year, especially in the wake of the recent riots over ferguson. >> that is supporting your local independently owned businesses. and some of those businesses were ones that were really harmed by the vandal criminal that has unfortunately been unleashed on oakland. in order to keep the flow, shoppers steady time limits will still be enforced here is an interesting story. a bag containing $100,000 was left at a burger king in san jose. the san jose mercury news reports that the owner of the fast food restaurant on north

bascom avenue called police after finding the back pack on wednesday. when officers arrive, they found $100,000 in cash, right there inside, along with marijuana, a list of phone numbers and a bank withdrawal slip. the owner of the burger king said he never considered keeping the money and was even late getting to his own birthday celebration because of that discovery. happening right now, the one warm coat drive is kicking off this morning. ktvu's alex savidge is live. alex, so far, any donations there, at least that location? >> we are already seeing quite a few coats dropped off here. we are right by christmas tree here. i know that you have a busy day of shopping planned. we would appreciate it if you would grab a coat and bring it on by. we set it all around the bay area today, collecting gently

used coats. they go to nonprofits all through the bay area. i'm here witness ben mcbride. who do these coats go to? >> they are going to hurting homeless people, particularly homeless men and women finding themselves under resourced for the holiday. >> how many coats are you going to get? >> i think we're going to get several thousand coats. as we new york city the need is great. we really need everyone to join with us and help bring several thousand coats to our mini centers so we'll be able to really resource those. >> rain is coming. temperatures are going to start to drop a lot more and folks who have toly on the streets, they need a way to stay warm. >> we just finished some of our thanksgiving meals and quick story like eddy came to me and said, ben, where are the coats.

shopping is never really surprising on the day after thanksgiving, is it? when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, it is foggy. some of that fog that we have been talking about prompted chp to issue advisories to drives across the richmond, bay bridge, san mateo bridge and dunn barton bridge. 7:18. let's go back to rosemary and the center. >> good morning to you, sal. we're going to give you a look towards the east where we also have the low clouds, little bit of fog there and a beautiful ball of fire there. the santa rosa, about 20 minute or so, partly cloudy skies, dry conditions for today. you do have that fog this morning that sal has been talking b i'm watching a ridge of high pressure slow hi break down. take a look here. i have the water vapor look on here so you can pick up the circulation in the atmosphere. we have been high and dry for several days now but, again, it's beginning to slip.

on the back side of it, already, a little bit of light rain pulling in to the northwest corner of california. by tonight, it moves into the west bay and then takes several hours. let me show you here this updated look. just the north edge of sonoma county, santa rosa along the coast line. as we get into the evening hours, the rain moves through and continues to mu into the north bay on and off but takes all the way into the overnight hours into 2:00 am and crossing into the north day, the san pablo bay, stretches along the golden gate bridge, i-80 lit up here. rain falling in the overnight hours. you can see during the overnight hours, central and south bay still dry. takes until the morning hours, early morning, 4:00 or 5:00, it begins to shift. tomorrow morning, we wake up with scattered showers. then it is on. scattered showers for saturday.

scattered showers, we wake up once again and it's going to be wet again. the bay area will get a soaking and we should be happy about this. i think one to two inches of rain expected for the weekend. we still have more wet weather coming early next week and when all is said and done, we are looking at the possibility of up to thee inches for the coastal areas. the weekend, the sierra will get some snow. looking at a foot of snow for the higher elevations. numbers wise, cold one in napa, 35 degrees for you. 37 in livermore. around the bay, upper 40s to low 50s. san jose, you are checking in at 40 degrees. now for the afternoon, partly cloudy skies, mostly cloudy for the north bay as well as the coast. temperatures will range in the upper 50s to low 60s around the bay. a few mid-60s for inland communities. take a look at santa rosa and

>> two young boys are recovering this morning after spending six hours trapped in a snow bank in new york state. police say the two cousins were playing outside in newburg when a snow plow operator didn't see them and pushed a wall of snow right on top of them. police searched for those boys for six hours before someone finally heard their cries for help. the boys were gasping for air what they were found but were not seriously hurt. hundreds of thousands of people in new england spent the thanksgiving holiday in the dark after winter storms knocked out powers from maine

katy? >> there's -- i'll show you the parking lot. the spots obviously close to the mall are close but there is plenty of parking. you can come out here, find a spot, walk off some of your turkey from last night. there seems to be plenty of room and even traffic cones out. a lot of people parked here at this parking lot to go to the 49ers game. so they are used to big crowds and like i said, there were large crowds overnight. this morning, everybody is in good spirits. nobody is pushing, pulling. we are not seeing any of those big rushes like we have in years paste. you may recall like the cabbage patch rush, the tickle me elmo, those years where there were those hot toys and stores only opened at the same time. i wondered about the orange

cone. >> maybe somebody-- >> some wal-mart workers threatened to walk off the job. organizers say more than 1600 protests across the one at this. here is a look at a protest in 2012. the majority of wal-mart workers are paid less than $25,000 a year and are calling for wal-mart to raise wages to $15 an hour. protesters are also asking for full-time hours for part-time employees who wants to work more. a state lawmaker is taking on black friday by introducing a bill that would require workers to get double pay on thanksgiving and christmas. assemblyman, says that the stores are cashing in on holiday shoppers and should share their properties. >> we have more and more workers in the state being forced out of their homes on a traditional holiday to go to work. >> wal-mart is responding to

the proposed bill. a customer said that employees choose toe work those holidays so they can get more hours and employees are paid time and a half. and going to the lawrence expressway around 9:30 last night. the highway patrol says that the driver was traveling north bound on the expressway when they ran a red light and struck a motorcycle officer. that officer was transported to the hospital with major but nonlife threatening injuries. >> its ate always tragic when there's collisions. it's more tragic when one of us is involved. just a reminder that you have to be careful. the injured officers is outside of the bay area but he was in the bay area to work traffic control at the 49ers stadium. the driver stopped and is cooperating with officers. alcohol was not involved in the

firefighters say that the drought actually helped them out because the dry ground actually helped absorb that water faster. no home was damaged but there are still about 150 people without water. and st. anthony's has been serving meals to the needy in the tenderloin neighborhood and celebrated the opening of the new dining room last month. they served up to 4000 thanksgiving meals and guests apreerpted the new if a si. anthony's ace till accepting donations of food along with donations and warm clothes. officials say many officers and firefighters came in on their day off to take part in the thanksgiving tradition of distributing meals. many of the recipients are hope bound and disabled and unable

this system still about 100 miles to the north of us, at least the rain line is and it will take all day to work into the north bay. it's going to be in the north baby about sunset and remains into the north day by the evening hours which means that central and south bay will remain dry. i'm going to roll through and show you what to expect. takes all that time before it crosses to the central play. so between 5:00 and 2:00 a.m., primarily over the north bay, scattered showers are falling and part of the coast line down into ocean beach, maybe pacific ya by 2:00 a.m. while we are sleeping, it begins to slide south. as we wake up in the morning, scattered showers. it will be the rain tomorrow among, slick roads in the forecast. all of saturday. i now pushed all the way into sunday morning and we wake up again with scattered showers and guess what? another round of scattered showers will continue into sunday afternoon. in addition to picking up some beneficial rain for the bay

a young couple in alabama has quite the engage many story to tell this morning. right as the group to be was asking that big question, he lost his grip on the ring while he was on a bridge overlooking a river. >> i saw it just bounce about three or four slats over and go between two planks. >> it went between those planks and right there into the water below. desperate, he did try to go in to find it but he could not find it and so the next day, he came back with a friend but still had no luck. discouraged, he did go out and by his fiance a new ring. he did go back to the river just to keep on searching. the sheriff's office heard about happened and they brought

been in control of the weather pattern for several days now is beginning to break down and it is beginning to shift and i sort of put the arrows here to show you how it's being pushed along, being judged by this system back here. it's already light rain falling. it's going to be sliding out over the course of the afternoon. by the late afternoon area will start seeing some rain. giving you some idea, this is going to double. looking at friday 5:00 in the afternoon, sunset right before 5:00. so it's getting dark early. we are dry. over the north edge of sonoma county action few light scattered showers. we are already into the overnight hours, already into midnight and notice how the rain continues just over the north bay? for toi, we are dry. central and south bay, but i think by this evening, the north bay will begin to have

those scatter showers. while we sleep, the rain begins to move through and by tomorrow morning, we wake up with scattered showers and we will have scattered showers in the forecast for all of saturday and all of sunday. by sunday night, take a look at some these numbers here. anywhere from a half inch to an inch over parts of the central and south bay. over the north day, 1 to 2 inches possible. and some of the higher amounts, mostly for the hills and mostly for the coastal rain. we'll track that for you but we are ex-excited about the weather weather coming our way. if you think about putting up the holiday lights, you need to plan for that. 40 degrees right now in napa, 44 in walnut creek and 47 in redwood city. still cool out there, but overnight, we slip into the 30s. it was quite chilly. afternoon highs, upper 50s to low 60s, going to be cool to mild with partly cloudy skies, perhaps an afternoon breeze and as we get into the extended forecast with the bay area always in view, rain begins
