they are heartbroken his life has been taken. >> i feel lucky and honored to have been his friend. brad met dave ruenzel when he with moved from r his family tolbay area 20 years ago. >> nationally known educational writer and he and i would go hiking a lot. >> reporter: a hike is the last place anyone thought ruenzel would be in danger, but tuesday afternoon he was found shot dade on a park trail in the huckle berry preserve, part of the bay area regional bay system. >> witnesses described two men on the trail before the gunshots, and have released these composite sketches. they believe rob we was motive, but those who know ruenzel sid say at most he had a phone and wallet on him and rarely carried cash. >> he was jump a warm, gregarious guy, every time i think of him i smile. >> i just broken down in his

fact, the secondary impulse approaching our coastline right now. as far as the rainfall totals over the past 24 hours, really adding up for one part of the bay area. we had some enhancement along the front, .07, and those numbers not as impressive, but santa rosa .36" in the north bare. live stormtracker 2, hard to ignore all of the rainfall showing up offshore. rainshowers in the north bay. nothing too major, scattered showers around the bay, but look at what is developing offshore. six hours you can see some development to our south and west and this is our next system approaching our coastline. so for the next few hours, late tonight into tomorrow we're tracking increasing rainfall rates. in gusty winds around 25 miles per hour and more sierra snow. here is our forecast model in the short-term, the rainfall increases in coverage overnight, a secondary batch of moisture moving onshore tomorrow at 10:00 and scattered showers could be heavy at times as we head into the sunday

crying. she held her son tight, rocking the child who had grown to a teenager. the last time she held him he was just 9 years old, sent to visit his father, from when he never returned. witnesses say the family moved to this quitt street about six months ago and nothing seemed out of ordinary. >> police say the boy down loaded a cell phone app and texted his mother saying he was being beaten abused. police were sent to the home, but a the father denied the boy was there. several hours later the police urn ared and had time finding the boy hidden behind a wall panel in a linen closet. i saw him and asked him to come forward and he was horrified. he was frozen with fear. >> he just couldn't thank us enough and kept saying thank you, thank you, thank you, just overjoyed we had found him. >> neighbors say they nude the boy lived there, but say the woman who claimed he was his

bridge is now in the shadows of the new span, but there is an effort underway to make how far it's not forgotten and that plan as you mentioned could save a lot of money piece by piece, and month-by-month, the skyline over the bay change as the old eastern span of the bridge is demolished. but should crews leave some of it behind? >> the idea is to leave some, you know, ruin or relic there -- the old j.d. to make it look nice. >> reporter: the metropolitan transportation commission is considering leaving some of the old peers near the old oakland shoreline as seen in the renderings of a gateway park proposal. piers could be repurposed. >> we would need to get permission to do had.

hotel lobby through january 1st. >> at ktvu we're taking donation as part of our anna nicole smith coat drive called "one warm coat." last night ktvu meteorologist bill martin was at the dropoff location in walnut creek taking in gently-used winter coats of those coats will be given to help people in need stay warm this winter. more than 2,000 coats were collected just at the walnut creek site. the drive runs through the end of year and you can make donations at four different locations? san francisco at the ferry building emeryville at bay street and imville. because the rainfall already picking up with the second system. we have been talking about a series of storms approaching the coastline and rainfall rates picking up. you get the idea of the direction moving in from the south and west. you can see on live stormtracker 2, the radar loop over the past three hours and the coverage increasing in the

north bay, towards santa rosa and novato and around san francisco and mill valley. in fact, let's look at the rainfall offshore, an estimate of .61" an hour. a rainfall rate associated with that cell. coming in closer, southern marin county, closer to san francisco, the rf has been picking up in coverage, extending across the bay bridge. just touching to the east bay towards berkeley. not much out towards the in and of itself east bay, but that will be changing overnight and pushing the machs to the south. closer to redwood city and half moon bay. more coverage offshore with heavier downpours to the west of half moon bay. outside right now, looking out towards the bay bridge, rain showers pushing in from the west and heading to the east. as far as the forecast headlines, rain increasing right now. more rain for tomorrow and there is yet a stronger storm we're tracking next week. so the key headline over past few days a rainy pattern

developing. tomorrow for your sunday, another rain cloud. monday, somewhat of a break. there is still a chance of showers, but not much in the way of significant rainfall on monday. but things ramp up into tuesday and possibly into against. these numbers really adding up, issuely for the coastal hills. we could have amounts 3-" in the urban areas 1.5-3" easily. a cloudy monday with the chance of showers. and then the strongest storm set to move into the region on tuesday. derek jeters with the first season moving onshore right now, we're expecting rainfall rates on the order of .25" to 1", maybe 1.25". so rain develops overnight. periods of rain expected for tomorrow. you will see that in the forecast model coming up in a little bit. these are waves moisture moving in from the south and west. another wave pushes onshore by midmorning sunday and possibly isolatedded heavier downpours throughout the afternoon hours. more breaks in the action for your sunday afternoon. this will be a snow-producedder
