downed trees, highway crashes and mudslides. the weekend rain and wind caused some big problems in the bay area and an even bigger storm is on the way. that bigger storm will be here tuesday. some breaks in the clouds. we're getting some rain in marin county. we'll take a look at that

i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. that's a big story, too, as well. what's ahead of us? >> well, today is kind of the little quiet day. there's some rain out there. but tomorrow is the main system. it will probably take us into late wednesday or thursday. this is the system a lot of people have been waiting for. some areas are getting rain. especially marin county. some air laws from larkspur, mill valley, san rafael, northward towards santa rosa, middletown, cloverdale. up to ukiah. there's some light rain in advance of a system pumping in a lot of moisture. it's still back here. the front tapping into moisture as well as the low which looks like it will go over us. so far the focus has been santa cruz mountains and the south bay. much more so than other areas. parts of the north bay picking up rain over the weekend. thick fog for some, rain

others. mostly cloudy. mild. there could be light rain in advance of the system. 50s on the temperatures to near 60 degrees for some. 59 sfo/half moon bay. southerly breeze will keep a lot of the temperatures on the mild side. mostly cloudy. some rain again, kind of skirting right along the coast here. mostly cloudy. a lot of 60s on these temperatures. i know the dumbarton bridge, any improvement? >> it's pretty bad, steve, westbound. we have a crash that's blocking -- it's right in the middle of the bridge. it's an overturned vehicle. they are having trouble getting that car out of the way. traffic is backed up from the nimitz freeway. it's also very slow on 880. now the spleaut -- san mateo bridge is getting busy because people have heard about the crash and are using the san mateo bridge which is the obvious solution. a lot of people are on the bridge. both bridges are bad. i would still recommend using the san mateo bridge. you will just be stuck in a whole lot of traffic. now, if you are driving to the bay bridge.

that's okay. no major problems. about a 20-minute delay and then off you go to the peninsula. when you get there, it's not too bad on 101. if you are driving this morning over to interstate north and south. it looks good in front of the oakland coliseum. back to the desk. dave, guess what today is? men always get that panicked look on their face. it's cyber monday. 4million fewer than last year are expected to shop. >> at least one cyber business expects to be really busy, busier than last year. i'm talking about amazon and tara moriarty joining us live at the tracy distribution center. they have been busy and jumping all morning, tara. >> reporter: yes. cyber monday has definitely kicked into high gear at the tracy facility. you can see these are the

vote for everyone. the ordinance is to make is safer. it's anticipated the police department may not have adequate resources to enforce the ban if it applied to a urge la -- to a larger area. critics say the ban would be dangerous for cyclists who will be forced to share the road with cars. we spoke with one cyclist who says he understands why many don't want bikes on sidewalks. i. >> i can see the part where the cyclist wants to be safe. but at the sale time, there's kids, women with -- same time, there's kids, women with strollers. >> reporter: and there are different plans on how a band would be implemented and which downtown streets could be impacted. the city council is set to make

a man is facing assault, vandalism and arson charges in san jose after a 13-hour standoff with police. it started around 2:00 yesterday morning on south second street when homeowners woke up to find a strange man in their home. they called police and the man ran to the home next door, climbed four stories up and climbed into the addict window. when police tried -- attic window. when police tried to negotiation, he started tlo throw bricks and pipes at them and then he tried to set fire to the attic. >> pretty scary thing to see. never saw something like that. he was cutting himself. it was just awful. >> police say the man essentially surrendered and climbed down using a fire truck ladder. they believe he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. san francisco school

cafeterias serving up healthier food is a -- attracting a problem rats. according to a report by the board of education, the cafeterias are struggling to store and refrigerator the amounts of fresh food and that's increasing waste which is attracting roads. in is according to the examiner. the district is working on the problem. they say schools nationwide are dealing with this same issue. 7:15. well, the thanksgiving weekend may be over but a lot of people in the bay area are still trying to get home. yesterday, was one of the busiest travel days of the year. the crowds combined with the winter weather caused a domino effect of all kinds of delays. a flight from sfo to washington, d.c. it was delayed for three hours. and a few flights to los angeles and bakersfield were just canceled. >> it was canceled.

i'm sitting here waiting for my parents to pick me up so i can go home and go to amtrak. >> feel bad for her. today there will be fewer travelers. but weather around the nation may cause several delays. you are advised to check with the airline before you head out to the airport. chicago's midway airport, may have been one of the worst spots to travel through. look at these pictures from yesterday. hundreds of travelers waiting to go through security in long lines. now a tv reporter stuck in all of that mess used her phone tracking how long the line was. it was more than a mile long. that's incredible. chicago's aviation department says while the long lines are usual, it was caused by the big hoyle crowds. a one-of-a-kind holiday light displays that come to sacramento. the dazzling 17-acre display takes you around the world, to landmarks including the eiffel

tower, white house, london bridge, golden gate bridge, taj mahal and the great while of china. the display is covered in millions of l.e.d. lights which got the attention of people heading to and from reno and tahoe over the weekend. >> that's how we saw it was from the freeway. we said we're going there. that's what we did. >> it's beautiful. >> the eevent created four years ago was in atlanta. it's open for the next twok weekends and every night from december 19th to january 4th. might be worthwhile. >> you can probably see it for whiles. >> all of those lights, yes. hey, sal, you are seeing all kinds of traffic problems. how is the toll plaza? >> well, the toll plaza is okay. the toll plaza getting over to san francisco looks okay. the dumbarton bridge is not okay. we're gonna touch on this

traffic report. if you are looking for an alternative, i think the bay bridge getting across there is kind of normallish, 20 minutes or so, not too bad, san mateo bridge is much busier than it used to be and so is the dumbarton bridge. let's talk about getting south on 880. it looks okay no oakland but it starts to slow down in san leandro. i will show you the maps here. the problem is on the dumbarton bridge here, westbound, it's been there for more than an hour, chp has issued a sig- alert. 880 is slow all the way down. i would say 237 is a decent road there or again maybe using the san mateo bridge. do not use the dumbarton bridge until they cleared the crash. let's go to steve in the weather center. we do have some breaks in the clouds. beautiful sunrise. for others, areas of fog. also some light rain. marin county, take a look at that for a second. you can see some of those brakes. we're waiting for the next system to come in.

it will be here. i'm trying to -- adding these up coming in fast and furious. ben low bund santa cruz mountains. really pretty good rain over the weekend. san jose and santa cruz mountains. san jose had a lot of rain saturday monday morning. antioch only .30. i know the same can be said for concord and livermore. didn't get that much rain. vallejo, .83. el cerrito, .66. san franciscopy picked up 1.93. now, again, this -- some of these have not been updated but 2.99 in santa rosa. they probably have more. san jose, 2.54 less than both yet for a percentage of normal 88% of normal. a few light showers. larkspur has reported some. thanks, bonnie for that. mill valley, san rafael, stretching up towards parts of

sonoma county, into lake county, mendocino county. a little bit of in napa. windsor light rain. weermt's not done yet. we're waiting for the next system. there are a few breaks in the clouds. kind of on the mild, humid side. this system we'll get the front and then the low. it looks like the low wants to move north. all of this moisture here will get drawn up. a lot of cloud cover. one system moves out. sunday's system still light showers around here. thick morning fog for some light rain for others. especially to the north bay. this low will move in. heavier rain. i think gets pointed towards santa cruz mountains. the breeze will pick up as well. tuesday, wednesday, maybe into early thursday. 50s on the temperatures to 60 degrees. sfo and half moon bay. san francisco, 57. the water temps are warm. they've been here from june. 60 to 65 degrees.

possibility of a record. the national weather service talking about it usual lie by december 1st. these are much colder. they are holding steady. it has nothing to do with el nino. that means the lows have been way above for the last six, seven months. 40s up in the mountains. 30s up in reno. these are warm systems not doing the greatest for snow. now, the rainfall totals, it's flip-flopped a little bit. it's now painting heavier amounts to the north. that's where the track of the low would go. lesser amounts to the south. we'll see about that. we'll know more tomorrow. so far, the trend has been santa cruz mountains, san jose. mostly cloudy. thick morning fog. 60s on the temperatures. very mild with some breaks in the clouds. i think you will notice the humidity factor is up there. rain returns, could be steady rain. moderate to avenue. possibility of thundershowers on wednesday as the low tracks

over us. >> busy week. >> thank you. 7:21 well, the tech industry expert says this holiday season will be a major test for apple's new payment system. it's called apple pay. that was launched late last month. it lets you buy things by waving your iphone in front of a scanner instead of reaching for your wallet. if holiday shoppers see other people using it, it may boost interest in the system. if it look like shoppers are having problems that may scare people away from apple pay. for the first time, the girl scouts will be selling their cookies using a mobile app or a personalized website. it's under the digital cookie program. each girl scout may have their own cookie website which their customers can get to only if the girl scout sends them an e- mailed invitation. it's an easy way for scouts to sell cookies it another state.

only first names will be used. parents have to approve everything on on the website. another option, a mobile app. the digital program begins this month in a limited number of areas where girl scouts have started their cookie sales. it will start nationally in january. >> it's kind of a good idea to teach them more modern marketing and capitalization selling cookies. trouble in toy about troyland. why this toy and others are being singled out.

today mark levine will introduce legislation to rename a local landmark of a robin williams. the proposal would change the name of the waldo tunnel to the robin williams tunnel. the wall low tunnel is on -- waldo tunnel is on highway 101 in marin county. that's where he grew up. it connects to san francisco where robin williams started his comedy career. already, 57,000 people have signed the online petition supporting that name change. as you know, robin williams tied in tiburon in august. 7:26. um boxes in walnut creek are getting a new look. this books is one of 11 that's been covered in artwork by the business association walnut creek downtown. during the community service day in september. volunteers cleaned the large boxes that sit on the sidewalk and basically made them black canvasses. a los angeles company then painted vinyl wraps. the project costs nearly $9,000 and could be expanded to more

break. there's some rain, especially up in marin county and northward. there a little bit. some sunbreaks. mill valley, san rafael. this is not a big deal. it's just -- there's so much moisture in the air up towards novato. windsor looks like they are getting a little bit of rain. clearlake, and a little bit up into lake county as well. napa county, not much. i doubt there's much here in napa or sonoma. could be a little bit. that seems to be the area getting some of that moisture. there will be a lot streaming northward as we see a deep moisture source which looks like it will track a little bit to the north. if it does, that's where the heavier rain will be. most of the heavier rain has been south. very mild air mass over us. a lot of moisture, even areas of fog, the wafl projections favoring the north bay. we'll see as it goes into tuesday, wednesday and early thursday. again, i think there will be more in san jose. the last couple of days that's been the trend.

mostly cloudy. thick morning fog. mostly cloudy, temperatures in the 60s for many. we've had a mess down on the dumbo. here's sal. good news on the dumbarton bridge. traffic getting into that part of the bay is still very slow. it was there more more than han hour, this overturned vehicle. they had to get a tow truck in there. it was kind of a long operation. dumbarton bridge backing up on the nimitz freeway. san mateo bridge is very heavy as people have heard about this crash and 237 may be a decent alternate but that's also slow. let's move along to live pictures. westbound bay bridge, not too bad getting across the bay. 25, 30-minute delay. if you are driving this morning in san jose, northbound 101, coming out from 280, it doesn't look too bad approaching 880. let's go back to the desk. >> thank you, sal.

a weekend storm caused plenty of problems in the bay area. but that's just the warmup for what's ahead in the next couple of days. ktvu's alex savidge joins us live from san francisco with the damage caused by the wet weather over the weekend. good morning, alex. >> reporter: quite a bit of cleanup work. this next storm system moving in tomorrow is expected to cause another problems. rain-soaked trees that tend to topple during storms. you can see this morning, the mess that's left behind. this tree split and fell on top of several cars. the chainsaws were buzzing. a city worker was out here trying to cut up this tree and get it off the cars. the tree fell yesterday and this was a ficus tree which have been prone to problem in the city. they are top heavy and have a tendency to topple and snap during a storm.

this particular tree came down on top of a couple of parked cars. it also fell onto a taxi that just happened to be driving by at the time. there was a passenger inside that taxi but no one was hurt during this close call. >> i just saw some leaves hit the front windshield that's about it. hit the brakes. >> reporter: up in marin county, last night, the soaking rain set mud and rocks on the freeway. the chp was forced to close part of southbound 101 right before the waldo tunnel. crews to be called in to clean up. the good news, no accidents reported as a result of all of the debris that came onto the road there. this upcoming storm is expected to dump quite a bit of rain over the next couple of days. no one wants to be caught offguard in contra costa county. some people were filling up sandbags yesterday. ahead of this next round of rain. business owners and homeowners

alike are worried about the possibility of flooding and with seral inches of rain expected, that's a real possibility. you can see at oak and broderick, city crews are out here, they are trying to chop it up and get it out of the way. we're live this morning in san francisco, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> a six-mile stretch of the pacific coast highway in malibu is still closed after mud, rocks and debris came crashing down on several cars. the mudslide in a former wildfire area. about 10 to 15 cars are stuck and as we've been men shungses another storm is expected to -- mentioning another storm is expected to move through there tomorrow. police in berkeley investigating the discovery of a body found at -- found at aquatic park.

he was pronounced dead at the scene. now, the police want your help as they look for answers about how he died. >> if any members of the public did see this white male in his 50s laying near south aquatic park, please give us a call. it's still not clear why the police are investigating his death as a possible becomes homicide. investigators are expected to tell us more information later this morning. police in petaluma arrested a man accused of intentionally hitting another man with miss car. now, it happened early yesterday morning at the little woods mobile home park on lakeville highway. a man told police he saw 18- year-old moses hunt almost hit another person in the complex so he tried to make hunt stop by standing in the road. but hunt did not stop. instead he hit the man, then drove off. that man is expected to survive. now, police did say they found

hunt and nis car at his home after -- and his car at his home after he was identified. police at a large encampment are given 72 hours to clear out. between 200, 300 people live in the he karnment known as the jungle. for months, the city has been telling the people living there, they would have to leave in december. it will be closed for good and dismantled on thursday. cold weather shelters are opening their doors in the south bay tonight. every night, the san jose-based nonprofit group home first will offer 100 beds at the fawrg national guard armory and beds on little orchard. visitors will seen two meals and a hot shower -- seen --

receive two meals and a hot shower. a group is lawning an ad campaign featuring people like ronnie goodman. he's the homeless artist who gained publicity when he ran the marathon this year. another ad features a mother holding a little girl with a line there are enough home also children in san francisco to fill 35 muni buses. the coalition hopes to change the perception of the homelessness with the month- long advertising campaign. there is a new report that says shoppers did not spend as much money this year on black friday. the unofficial kickoff of the holiday shopping season. the national retail federation says the average shopper spent $318 over the four-day thanksgiving weekend. that comes to $51 billion. a lot of money. that's down 11% from last year. there's also a new warning

for holiday shoppers as the smart machines and devices we use every day get smarter so do the hackers. smart tvs are a popular gift. they are popular with hackers because of the web cams they have, those private moments of your life can stream live on the internet. not only is it equipped with web cams, microphones or wi-fi. we're talking about baby monitors and security cameras. >> 4,000 unsecured cameras were hacked into right here in the united states. hundreds here in the tristate area as unsuspected families were being spied upon. >> wow. but there's supposed to be an easy way to protect yourself. they say all you should do is change the factory settings or default passwords on your smart device or tv. change it to your own personal password. a new phone scam is targeting people all across the country, including here in the bay area.

according to the santa clara county sheriff's office, the scammers say they are from local law enforcement or the irs and ask for money to settle an outstanding arrest warrant. the sheriff's office says anyone who receives a call asking for money should take down the person's name and phone number. then say you will call back after verifying their information with the police. anyone who has lost money in the phone scam is asked to contact law enforcement. five st. louis rams player used the pretame intrope ducks for what they called a show of support for ferguson protesters. ferguson is about 11 miles from the stadium where the rams play. the tight end and wide receivers stopped near the tunnel and raised their arms in a hands up don't shoot gesture. some witnesses said michael brown had his hands raised when he was shot to death by darren wilson. the rams followed their show of support there with a

dominating victory over the raiders. a week ago, the raiders won their first game of the season. yesterday they were blown out by the rams. 52-0. raiders will host the 49ers on sunday. there are reports of raiders may be interested in a trade for jim harbaugh. not kidding. the new york jets also reportedly may be interesting. harbaugh has a year left on his contract. he would have to agree to any trade if there was one. according to espn, the 49ers will not make a decision until after the season. golden state warriors are heading home after their ninth straight win. green led the team with 20 minutes against the pistons. five warriors scored in double figures in the 104-93 win. the warriors host the magic tomorrow at oracle arena.

'tis the season for shopping and warnings about dangerous toys. pam cook is in the studio now with some of the things you should look for and specific toys on the lits. >> yeah, good morning. good advice out there. according to a new study out today, 18 children in the u.s. suffered toy-related injuries every hour and those injuries are serious enough to send them to the emergency room. now, toy safety caught oort released a list of specific toys but also things to look out for such as choking hazard. now, certain to be -- some toys like this one at walmart can send arrows up to 145 feet. parents are urged to instruct children to only pull the arrows back halfway. now, baby toys can be especially dangerous because of the choking and strangulation

hazard. this toy is on the list. it has a cord that's 20 inches in length. that's considered dangerous by watch groups. now, also on the watch nominees for the ten worst says this is toy. it sold for babies but it has long fiber like hair that the watch group says is not adequately routed. it's easily emoved by a baby -- removed by a baby. consumer groups suggest remove all tags, twist ties and plastic loops before giving a toy to a child. you are looking at a press conference that was held this morning with some of the other dangerous toys. in our next hour of "mornings on 2," we're gonna tell you what is the biggest culprit for

sending kids to the emergency room. dave? >> all right. thank you. 7:46. meantime, crude oil prices, they just keep falling after the opec oil ministers couldn't agree to cut production. crude oil is selling for $65 a barrel. the lowest price in five years and it's down 37% since the first of the year. some experts say it could fall another $20 a barrel. that means for us, lower gasoline prices. the average gasoline price in san francisco, now $3.22. it's down a nick cobble in the last week, down 26 cents in the past month. around the rest of the bay area, the average is 3.05. that's a drop of 50 cents in the last month. i've seen it under $3. >> yeah. in danville i saw 2.99. something like that. speaking of traffic, let's check in with sal. on thursday, mike mibach and i were trying to do traffic for you. but i would -- i would advise

for you not to quit your day job. >> i watched a little bit of that. there was no traffic to be done. today is a different story, obviously. we do have traffic out there. let's take a look at 880 northbound. it's beginning to get slow and heading up to downtown oakland. this is a typical delay. some people may be avoiding san mateo and dumbarton bridges. we had an earlier problem on the dumbarton bridge that caused big issues for that part of the bay. let's take a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, what's okay here, you can see traffic is backed up a little bit as you come up to the pay gates ranging within normal 25, 30- minute delay. tum bar on bridge we had an earlier -- dumbarton bridge we had an earlier crash. i put the icon up to show it to you. you will see traffic is very slow. san mateo bridge superslow because people are using that instead. so is 237.

i would still advice not using the dumbarton. let's go to steve in the weather center. we do have -- kind of a break here. a little bit of rain up towards the north bay. finally, some snow in the sierra fell. they had snow and rain. winter storm warning -- watch, i should say, is out tuesday night into wednesday. it was just a bear getting home for some people. several accidents were reported, interstate 880 near donner sum. boreal, a foot. more is on the way. chains required on 80 and highways over the weekend. kind of a break right now. they will kick that right back in on tuesday. we have rain to the north. not a lot. some of the rain totals -- i'm not trying to favor north bay or east bay, but san jose, santa cruz mountains, down towards santa clara valley had really good rain on saturday.

some areas more so than some in the east bay. sausalito 1.1 a. daly city an inch and a half, sleepy hollow. el cerrito, vallejo, 83 antioch had 35/100ths. i know concord and livermore had .50. that's it. almost all of that fell yesterday. since july 1st, san francisco now is looking better 3.39. they are 75% of normal. san jose 2.54. that's 88% of normal. this probably is more than the 2.99. but suffice it to say, santa rosa is in third place on this panel at 42%. i mean petaluma had more rain. there's not a lot of rain up from around the russian river area, northern sonoma county, lake county and mendocino county. there was a little bit in napa county. it looks like that's fizzled out. we're waiting for this next system. we'll get the warm sector to

come in and then the low has to track. that will draw up a lot of moisture from the south. there will be some areas. i think santa cruz mountains down to monterey, could pick up hefty totals. thick morning fog for some. light rain for others to the north. we do have a few sunbreaks. the low moves back in. that will give us heavier rain and then pick up tuesday night, wednesday. everyone will get in on this system. 50s on the temps to upper 50s for some. you can see the move right there. the low is finally moving. it won't be through until probably on wednesday. that will continue to give us some lower snow levels by wednesday. tuesday looks around 8,000 feet. some of the rain, the next 24 hours, not a lot. but then it picks up. this is a flip-flop from four hours ago when the heavier rain was south. it's focusing most of the energy to the north. we'll see. i think there will be more than that. mostly cloudy, thick morning fog. some rain is hit and miss. 60s on your temperatures. again, partly sunny for some.

justice and the leader of the court's liberal wing. a san mateo county social worker accused of having sex with a former teenaged client is due in court this morning. 38-year-old manuel was arrested for reportedly having sex with a 16-year-old girl. yearns are concerned other -- investigators are concerned other girls tied to his social work may have been victimized. the kaiser hospital in santa clara is open after being closed to new patients for more than three hours. now, about 7:00 last night, a staff member reported a chemical smell in the emergency room. the fire department came out to investigate. they kleesed all traffic in and out of the hospital. now, fire and hazmat crews were able to rule out flammable gas but have not identified where that smell was coming from. firefighters ran the air conditioner until the smell was gone and the hospital started accepting new patients around

it was confined to the east bay. rain for a few, not a lot. mostly cloudy. the next heavy rain is tuesday as this whole system begins to track toward us, we'll also pick up the breeze, tuesday, wednesday, 30 miles an hour. some of the heavier totals, possibility of some thundershowers as well as we get toward late tuesday into wednesday as that low tracks it. it looks like it wanted to track north and south. 63 already in half moon bay. 50s for many. get that south breeze with the warm ocean temps still in the 60s from monterey down to santa monica. maybe a record. we do have mostly cloudy skies. a couple of hints of rain. but not a lot. some fog that will lift. partly sunny to partly cloudy. 60s on the temperatures. sal? westbound dumbarton bridge that crash is gone but the

traffic is very slow. we'll get to that in a moment. we have slow traffic on from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. kind of a lousy commute. almost everywhere you will see slow traffic. when you get to the beb toll plaza -- to the bay bridge toll plaza, you will see a backup driving through of 20, 30 minutes. the livermore valley, we haven't talkedded about it much. it's been typically slow. you go down to the dumbarton bridge. we had an earlier crash there. that crash is gone but traffic is slow. 101 is also slow. back to the desk. all right. thank you, sal. happening now -- cyber monday is underway. more than 100 million shoppers will be surfing the web today for sales. and tara moriarty has a behind-the-scenes look for you at the amazon distribution center in tracy. workers are gearing up for one of the busiest days of the year. >> reporter: 426 items per second. that's how many packages amazon

sent out last year during the holiday rush. they expect to break the record this year. behind me, you can see that we have new automated robots. they are the orange thing at the bottom of the shelves that keep rotating in and out of here. the computer selects which items are to be shipped off. in a packing facility the size of 28 football fields. they will be put in boxes that are predetermined based on size. the computer picks the amount of tape necessary and sticker and you get your holiday gift sent to you in hours. that's why one company says it uses amazon exclusively to deliver its products. >> mainly for two reasons, one is that everybody shochs on amazon -- shops on amazon. we want to make sure they can find the product on amazon. amazon has this huge, awesome operational facility. we don't have to lift a finger.

but steve says get raid yid for more wet and windy weather in the bay area tomorrow. there was several storm- relighted problems yesterday -- storm-related problems. san francisco a big tree branch tumbled on a moving taxi at broderick and oak streets. that branch fell on top of a parked volkswagen there. it's a wig -- it's a big one. coming up for you at 8: 30. alex savidge will have more on in a live report on all of the weekend storm damage. well, the thanksgiving weekend may be over but a lot of bay area people are still trying to get back home. yesterday was one of the busiest travel days of the year. the crowds, combined with the winter weather caused all kinds of delays. like a flight from sfo to washington, d.c., delayed three hours. some flights to los angeles and bakersfield were just canceled. >> it was just canceled.

i'm sitting here waiting for my parents to pick me up so i can go home. >> today, though, there should be fewer travelers out there but the weather nationwide may still cause you some delays. you are advised to check ahead with your airline or look online before you head out the door. chicago's midway airport was one of the worst travel spots to be going through. look at this picture. hundreds of travelers standing in very long lines waiting to go through security. a tv reporter stuck in all of this mess used her phone just trying to track how long the line was. it was mere than a mile long. that's ridiculous -- it was more than a mile long. that's ridiculous. they said while the lines were unusually long, it was caused by the big holiday crowds. a controversial vote is happening tomorrow in san jose. cara lui is live with more on the proposal to take bicyclists

off the sidewalk and into the street. good morning. >> reporter: good morning, well, we have seen dozens of cyclists out here this monday morning, some have been sharing the sidewalk with pedestrians. others using the roadway alongside traffic. the san jose city council is set to decide whether to ban bicycle riding on downtown san francisco for everyone besides police officers and children 12 and under. the ordinance meant to make it safer for pedestrians, including seniors, shoppers, and residents. it's anticipated the police department would not have adequate resources to enforce a ban if it applied to a larger area. the plan would keep pedestrians from being blindsided. we spoke with one cyclist who says he understands the push for pedestrian safety. >> bikes shouldn't be on the sidewalk. san jose is pretty good with -- they are getting a lot more bicycle lanes. but i think the motorists need

to learn how to share the road with cyclists. >> i was hit three times in the last two years because motorists are not paying attention. >> reporter: there are a number of different plans on how a ban would be implemented. the city council is set to take a vote this tuesday afternoon. live in downtown san jose, cara lui, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. 8:08. happening today, president obama holds white house meetings focused on the troubles in ferguson, missouri. the president will meet with young civil rights leaders about the mistrust between the police and the communities of color. he will meet with government and law enforcement officials on strengthening and building neighborhoods. finally, the president and his cabinet will examine federal programs that give military style equipment to law enforcement agencies. the mayor of ferguson, missouri says darren wilson did

imagine theimagination. >> it far exceeded my expectations. >> the global winter wonderland is open for the next two weekends and every night tlat through january 4th. let's check in with sal. not too much fun on the roads. a lot of people heading back on this monday, december 1st. >> nond 880, tori and dave. we have a crash northbound 880 at 23rd. i want to show you what it is doing to the traffic. it's at a standtill past the coliseum. today it's much worse than it normally is. normally we have slow traffic. but because of the crash, it's terrible. i want to show you and alternate route. it's not great but it's better than 880. 580 is slow out of san leandro. people have heard about the crash. i would still use 580 even though it's very slow. it's better than 880. if you have your short cuts, you might want to think about

those as well. this is one of those commutes i do not recommend. if you can put it off, that would be the best thing. let's take a look at one more live picture of the bay bridge. that's backed up for a 20- minute delay getting into san francisco. today's going to be mostly dry according to steve. but tomorrow, steve, we might have a tough job tomorrow. >> we have a tough job every day. >> tougher. >> thank you. >> we do have a few showers. most of it is winding down. there are some breaks, sunbreaks. temperatures start off really mild. had fog in the east bay. i know orinda, la fayette, concord, livermore, south bay and peninsula kind of quiet here. in between systems, boy, is there a big plume of moisture. there it is. this will get drawn up. southern california is looking for some pretty hefty totals. i think ulthe way up to monterey, then the low gets close enough where it start to

push it eastward. there is a lot here. that's really moving quick. it's drawing it up. we've had a low little bit of shower activity. there's still some off the coast right knew, kind of sweeping up from the south. santa rosa looks like to windsor, parts of the russian river. lake county, mendocino county. parts of san jose over the weekend had really good rain. i -- san jose, saturday morning just got slammed but coyote, valley, 1.60. sausalito, 1 point 15. daly city, 1.50. not too shabby. sleepy hollow, 1.42. el cerrito, 2/3. antioch, .35. for some, it was really good rain but for parts of the bay area, it was like what rain? san francisco now 75%.

san jose, with that -- i think about 8/10 on saturday morning. 2.54. less than these two yet it's 88% of normal. everything has been flip- flopped. 50s on the temperatures to 63 half moon bay. you get the southeast breeze or an easterly breeze in advance of the system. that's going to make for a mild day and the water temperatures, may be a record for december 1st. they are still in the 60s from half moon bay to monterey down to southern california. i think i saw 66 off la jolla. they've been warm since june. nothing to do with el nino. 40s up in the mountains. 43 in tahoe. 56 in monterey. for the sierra, snow level will go up, up, up because of the moisture coming up from the southwest. don't be surprised if it's 8,000 feet. tuesday morning into wednesday is when the winter storm watch kicks in. we get the increase and the moisture coming up from the southwest, we'll get the warm sector coming in. it looks like the low wants to

move north. here you can see some of the moisture starting to move up from the southwest. then watch as the front moves in. you can see -- i think it will. the timing on this looks to be coming in tuesday morning and then here you go, north bay getting it, tuesday afternoon, it's just nonstop as the low moves in. we'll go into wednesday morning. wednesday night and even thursday morning looks like there could be rain. get ready for a wet pattern. mostly cloudy today. thick morning fog. there is a little bit of rain. but it wouldn't take much to get showers. today is the break day. after that we keep it unis theled into thursday and then things calm down by thursday into the weekend. >> that's what people have been asking for. >> we need feet, not inches. >> thank you. time is now, 8:20. lake tahoe animal shelter has given a new lease on life to a

8:24. people around the globe are marketing world a.i.d.s. day today. last night in san francisco, the observations -- observances were held. the grove was lit with candles and light sculptures to honor those touched by a.i.d.s. the cdc says an estimated 34 million people are living with hiv worldwide. >> we've had a gathering of over 600 individuals who have come together to remember those lost and to share their hope for a future without a.i.d.s. >> congresswoman nancy pelosi was among the people attending last night's event and there will be another ceremony at the a.i.d.s. memorial grove in golden gate park later this morning.

the healthcare foundation is hosting a healthcare and free hiv testing at frank ogawa plaza today. 8:25. utility boxes in walnut creek, they are getting a new look. take a look. this box is one of 111 that have been covered in artwork by the business association walnut creek downtown. during the city's community service day in september, volunteers cleaned the large boxes that sit on the sidewalk and made them black canvasses. an l.a. company used painted vine yil wraps to cover the boxes. it costs around $9,000. it may be expanded to even more utility boxes. well, rumors that kirk douglas have died, they are circulating online, even though he's very much alive. it all started with this online obituary accidentally posted by "people" magazine. the headlines read do not pub, for do not publish, kirk

week. >> coming in tuesday/wednesday. today is the break. we do have areas of fog, north bay has been dealing with the rain. quiet, south bay and peninsula. we are gating a few sunbreaks. some of that fog, thick, thick, thick. it was mainly law fayette, eye ren da, than light rain developed in marin county up towards mendocino county, sonoma, not a lot. there's a lot of moisture being drawn up here. some of this is taking aim at southern california, central california. the northern extent of that somewhere around monterey and the santa cruz mountains. the system will come in and start to push it eastward. it looks like the consensus is will come in which will ramp up rain rates for the north bay but not until tuesday, wednesday. a little bit of rain coming up from the south. you can see some of that clipping marin county. there's a couple of shurs. windsor, russian river area, lake county, clearlake. thick fog. rain showers. very light. there listen a lot of cloud

cover streaming over us today. 50s on the terp -- on the temperatures to 60. the southeast breeze and then we get the system to come in and we get the low to come in. it will be very active starting tuesday, wednesday maybe into thursday. mostly cloudy, thick morning fog, a few pockets of rain. update on the traffic with sal. we have a big problem on interstate 880 northbound. let's get right to it at 23rd. there is a crash that was blocking two lanes -- or actually, it's between high and 23rd. and the traffic is just a mess from 238. it's getting better because they are clearing the lanes. it's moving a little bit. it was stopped for a second. but one of the things i want to mention, you can use 580 as an alternate. it's backing up into san leandro. i would still use it. it's better than using 880 at this point. 80 is terrible -- 880 is terrible. there are other words being used. we'll stick with, terrible. highway 17, that traffic is

moving along okay. no problems on 17 or 101 this morning. it's beginning to clear out a little bit. back to the desk. a weekend storm caused a lot of problems around the bay area but that was just a warmup for what is ahead for this week. alex savidge joining us live now from san francisco showing us and telling us about the damage caused by the rains. with more wet weather on the way, one of the big concerns is rain-soerked trees that can easily topple when the winds pick up. city crews just finished cleaning up a big mess at oak and broderick. this is where part of the tree you are looking at split and fell down onto several cars. workers had the chainsaws out early this cut up this tree that fell yesterday. the tree came down onto a couple of parked cars and it also happened to fall on top of a taxi driving by at the time.

>> now, the man eventually surrendered, he climbed down using that fire truck ladder. police think he was under the influence of drugs or alcohol. 8:37. happening today -- people at san jose's largest homeless encampment are being given a 7- hour notice to clear out. between 200 and 300 people live in the encampment known as the jungle near coyote creek. foremonths, the city has been telling the people there they would have to leave in december. the response manager said it will be closed for good and dismantled on thursday. he says about 140 people have been placed in subsidized housing so far. another 50 have housing vouchers and are looking for places to live. cold weather shelters are opening their doors in the south bay tonight. every night, the san jose-based nonprofit group home first will offer 100 beds at the national guard armory in gilroy and 70

beds on little orchard street. visitors will receive two meals and a hot shower. a survey last year found more 7600 homeless people live in santa clara county. san francisco's coalition on homelessness wants to put a new face on people who have no place to live. the group is launching an ad campaign featuring people like this guy, ronnie goodman. he's the homeless artest who gained publicity when he ran the san francisco marathon earlier this year. another ad if he churs a mother holing a little girl with a line, there are enough homeless people to fill 35 muni buses. the coalition hopes to change the perception of the homeless with the month-long tearsz -- advertising campaign. five rams players used the inpropose duction to the game as a show of support for ferguson. ferguson is sewnly 11 miles away from where the rams -- is

the age of 3. we have a link to the dangers in toy land report. dave? >> thank you. 8:48. new this morning, right now, fire crews in the south bay, they are battling a two-alarm house fire in campbell. this started just a little while ago on villa rida drive. these photos were tweeted by the emergency crews. that burning house has been evacuated as of right now, there's no report of any injuries. still some frightening pictures there. let's check in with sal who is back on this monday and keeping an eye on the traffic. how is the toll plaza? >> it's pretty slow. it's improving a little bit. one of the reasons it is because 880 has kind of a logjam getting up to the area. there is a crash on 880 at 23rd between high street and 23rd. minor injuries. they are actually clearing it but traffic is really set back. you will see a lot of slow traffic there. one of the things i recommend to you is to think about using 580 westbound, even though it
