boarded up windows all around the city of berkeley after a protest goes late into the night. we'll tell you how many people

were arrested and with you one person was injured -- injured while trying to protect a store. a female suspect wounded in an officer-involved shooting. it happened in the east bay. new details we've just learned about the gunfire. two massive fires sh shut down portions of two major freeways in downtown los angeles. "mornings on 2" starts now. good morning. we are live in berkeley right now. violent protests went well into the early-morning hours and you are looking at businesses that have been boarded up. there's more work to be done, though, this morning. business owners out assessing the damage after another night of vandalism and looting. ktvu's alex savidge has been out there for hours. coming up in minutes, he's

gonna show us some more of the damage and tell us what police faced and what caused protesters to turn on each other. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm pam cook in for tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. let's talk about weather and traffic. i can't wait to get to steve, you are saying we're kind of okay today but boy, what's around the corner? >> thursday, well, it starts wednesday night. south, there's not much. it will be another beautiful sunrise over the big city. we can rain up to the north. it looks like point april arena -- point arena. this is the old tule fog. back in the '70s, we would get rain and fog in december and january. remember that? yeah, i remember that. some of that fog has been popping up. parts of the east bay and south bay. so foggy for some. light rain or moderate rain to the north. but it's out of my forecast

zone, just so you know. mostly cloudy, mild temps. temperatures will be in the 60s here. the rain line is still to the north. but picking up a little bit. you can see right there. point arena to ukiah, willits, fort bragg. south of that there's not a lot. 50s on the temps. the fog is a bigger story. a very mild 57 in sebastopol. heeldsburg, 56. the water temps are crazy warm. 61 bodega bay. 61 monterey. probably a record for december 8th. has to be. that's so warm. that will help feed the systems coming in later in the week and speaking of later in the week, it will be here wednesday night but until then, it's mainly fog. thick fog, afternoon temps, 60s. pretty mild. i will have more on the system coming up in 10, 12 minutes. here he is with an update on

the traffic, mr. sal castanedo. >> i was trolling a friend of mine in new york city, just telling her i was wearing shorts yesterday on my deck here in california. >> how did that go over? >> it didn't go over well. [laughter] good morning, everybody. the weather is much better than it is back east. if you are driving into san francisco, right now, it is moderate. if you are driving from the toll plaza or from the macarthur maze to the toll plaza, it's gonna take you about 35 minutes and when you get to -- i'm sorry. if you are driving from the carquinez to the macarthur maze, 35. if you are taking the ride into san francisco, this is a 20- minute delay into san francisco. there are no major problems into the city. this is northbound 280 in san jose. it looks good. one and 280. i want to mention -- 101 and 280. i want to mention 580580 5805

-- mention 580 and castro valley, kind of a mess. what started as a peaceful protest in berkeley turned into a night of violence and vandalism. alex savidge, live now with a look at the damage. alex? >> reporter: dave, good morning. this demonstration last night did begin peacefully but it did turn destructive and there's vandalism all across the city. we're here outside of berkeley civic center building. you can see the front doors, the windows were smashed out here and now they've all been boarded up. there was also last night a troubling attack on one of the protesters out here. we want to warn you this video we're about to show you is difficult to watch. [chanting] >> reporter: in this video posted to youtube, you can see a man on a bicycle trying to stop people from smashing windows in a radio shack store and then moments later, the man

is hit in the head with a hammer. the victim was taken to the hospital. he's expected to be okay. meantime, this morning, cleanup crews have been busy boarding up storefront windows across the city. this is the work being done at the radio shack store on shaddock looted, we understand twice last night. a whole bun -- a whole bunch of electronics were stolen. there were close to 600 people taking part in last night's demonstration parked by anger over the deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police. protesters wound through berkeley and oakland briefly shutting down highway 24. the crowd was finally dispersed after lighting several trash fires near telegraph and alcatraz. berkeley police are bracing for more demonstrations. >> we're looking into to see if there are any protest marches

planned. we certainly welcome anybody that peacefully wants to express themself in berkeley. we certainly welcome that. we'll be willing to facilitate anybody that wants to march and to so peacefully. but we do ask that it does maintain a peaceful presence. >> reporter: and berkeley police tell me they arrested five people last night. they say that includes two people who were arrested for crimes committed during saturday night's demonstration here in the city, including a man who was seen smashing the windows at a trader joe's store with a skate board. as we bring you back out here live, these are the fliers, already plans for another demonstration tonight at 5:00. everyone planning to meet at bancroft and telegraph. of course, berkeley police, and a lot of business owners bracing for another night of protests and hoping there's no more destruction as there was last night. we're live in berkeley, alex

savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. >> keep us posted. thank you. san jose police are investigating a shooting that apparently stemmed from the battle of the bay between the raiders and 49ers. one man suffered life- threatening injuries and katie utehs joins us from san jose with more on the investigation. katie? >> reporter: good morning, pam. yes, that man with life- threatening injuries shot possibly outside of the britannia. a man setting up tables this morning was aware of the shooting but had few details to share with us. police detained several men nearby. we've not heard of officialest ras. someone called around 5:15 last 911. police arrived near west san -- west santa clara and almaden to find a man suffering from a gunshot man. the man was a security guard attempting to break up a dispute outside of a bar.

police detained several men outside the sp-2 bar. customers at the brit watched the battle of the bay which was prior to the shooting. investigators wouldn't say exactly what led up to the altercation or fight but told the mercury it was game-related for sure. we're working to learn an update on the victim's condition as well as the identities of the people who were detained and possibly arrested. one positive note to report, this was the only violence report that is possibly related to the battle of the bay. >> all right. thank you, katie. we'll check in more on an update on that story with you later. sunday's battle of the bay, did turn into a victory for the raiders and a stunning set back for the 49ers. derrick carr threw three touchdown passes in oakland's victory over the 49ers at the soldout coliseum. it was the raiders' second

victory and their biggest win in years. colin kaepernick had another rough day. one touchdown, two interceptions. the niners are now two games out of the second wild card spot with three games left to play. 7:09. new details on a stolen car chase that started in san leandro. it ended with police shooting a female suspect in oakland. that woman who was shot is now in grave condition. the pursuit started in san leandro about 8:00 last night. it ended in oakland on a cul-de- sac on springfield street. that's near 98th and bancroft avenue. police tried to pull over the female driver but she sped off. at one point, they say she rammed several police cars and then the police opened fire. that woman was shot. she was taken to the hospital and again we're hearing now she's in grave condition. one police officer was treated for minor injuries. also new this morning, two major overnight fires.

look at this. this has shut down parts of two major freeways in downtown los angeles. it's huge. first fire started around 1:30 this morning at an apartment building under construction. the fire spread to two nearby office buildings. highways 101 and the 110, shut down. 110 is still closed at this hour because of possible burned framing collapsing onto the freeway. >> they did have papers that were, blinds, window screens that started to catch on fire or melt due to the heat. >> we're also finding out about a second major fire in downtown los angeles. it's burning at a shipping company building. no word of injuries yet but both fires are still under investigation. a trip of a lifetime paid for in part by you, our ktvu viewers. >> i just wanted to run fast

with family in the philippines are closely watching this powerful tropical storm. at least 21 people have died. while the storm is weakening, strong winds and rough waves are still expected in the region today. the biggest concern now is the threat of flash flooding and landslides and thousands of people are still living in shelters. >> translator: i'm worried. i'm thinking about my children and grandchildren. they are so young. it's so hard for me because every typhoon damages our homes. we don't have the money to fix it. >> the storm comes a little more than a year after that supertyphoon caused major damage to the island. that natural disaster killed more than 7,000 people and destroyed entire villages. crews are working to clean up the damage caused by the storm at the airport. you can see damage to hangars and even inside the terminal itself. there are now cardboard signs saying that all flights have been canceled due to the storm.

7:15. an apparent gas attack is being responded. first responders in rosemont illinois were called to this hotel after people smelled a strong odor. powdered chlorine was found in a stairwell. people were evacuated. thousands people, a lot of people dressed like animals were forced out in the streets. >> i saw a couple of ambulances going and i saw a fire truck. i figured something was serious going on and then the fire alarm went off and so everybody started leaving. >> 19 people were treated for nausea and for dizziness. technicians deon cam nateed that aria and then several hours later, the guests were allowed to go back in. this convention is called fur fest. they celebrate animals that are given human character wrist

characteristics. president obama says he's looking forward to thanking wins prime minister for his hospitality during the president's last visit to england. prince william's wife, kate, will spend the day in new york. she is starting with a visit to a child development center in harlem. >> the children are young. they are 3, 4. they don't really know who it is that's coming to see them. but this -- but they are excited to see a princess. >> the. 7:17. we're bringing sal back. you are watching the commute -- go ahead, sal. >> i saw prince william there ins his white pants and said only a prince would get away with that. >> maybe. try it out. let's see. >> no, i won't.

[laughter] >> dave, you were alluding to this commute. the answer is, it's not all that bad on a monday. there are slowdowns. we haven't had any major crashes. as you look at the bay bridge, we we-- we bring it in. typical slowdown, 30 minutes getting into san francisco. even though we're not getting a break we're not in terrible shape. we'll ask steve the million dollar question, when is it gonna rain? when it rains, then the commute turns into into something you don't want to deal with. there are no problems on northbound 280 at 880 where you mumm up to-- where urcome up to 17. the time is 7:18. steve, are we gonna have a couple of rough days this week? >> yes, we are. thursday and friday. >> all right. maybe the biggest system to come in in four or five years if everything continues to

track. today and tomorrow won't be bad. there's areas of thick fog out there. by the way, the last time san francisco had a two-day total of rain over four inches, you have to go back to february third, 1998. that was a strong el nino year. everything is shaping up. give you a heads up. i know we're three days away. if you have outside christmas decorations, you might want to go to a plan b. could get gusts of 60 miles an hour. today there's light rain to the north. very foggy for some. thick fog. mainly east bay, south bay. if you have some, you can tweet me, facebook, whatever. i will mention it. mostly cloudy. mild temps. light rain to the north. this is a weak system but it could give light rain. there's heavier amounts up in mendocino county. south of that, there's not a lot for us. a lot of show. but we are expecting things to change by wednesday night into thursday, friday, saturday. a couple of 40s. a lot of 50s on your temps. a couple of 40s. safe raw toga is in there. morgan hill and gill -- save

raw -- saratoga and morgan hill in there. somebody asked who knows sea surface temperatures better than me about the temperatures. they've been warm since june. 50s for many. even down to san diego at 59. national weather service in sacramento says heads up. winter stormwatch already out. wednesday night into friday. snow will be measured in feet. this will be a colder system. we'll massage all of this forecast as we get towards wednesday. just giving you a heads up here as we get closer to it. today, mostly cloudy. maybe partly sunnies to the south. this system is riding up over. i've seen projections of 7.50 inch total between now and saturday painted over parts of the bay area. a strong system.

i don't usually say that but this one looks like a big-time event. the models have been remarkably in sync. mostly cloudy, rain to the north. sun to the south. 60s on your temps. today, except for fog, mostly cloudy. the temperatures will be in the upper -- this could be one of the warmer days of the week. after tomorrow, tomorrow is our one nice day except for the fog. rain starts wednesday night and then thursday, friday, just looks like really tough. >> are you saying people should take down some decorations -- >> if you get a 60-mile-an-hour wind, that santa claus will end up in the next zip code. >> we do have some of those big blowup things in our neighborhood. >> i'm just saying -- >> okay. i will let the neighbors know, in case they are not watching. >> they are, pam. >> they need to get up, yes. thank you. 7:21. a jet airplane nearly collided with a drone. up next, what the pilot is saying about the incident at a major international airport. that dog will get the

biggest bone he's ever gotten for christmas. >> coming up a hero dog that leads police to that little boy trapped ten feet underground.

welcome back. we're learning that an unidentified drone came close to hitting a plane as it was landing at heathrow airport. the pilot of the plane was 700 feet off the ground when he saw the helicopter-style drone. the incident was given an a- rating which is the highest rating that can be given. investigators have been unable to identify the drone involved. 7:24. several of the survivors of the attack on pearl harbor went back to hawaii marking the 73rd anniversary of the attack that drew the u.s. into world war ii. the handful of survivors you see here that gathered at the memorial built on top of the sunken battleship, the u.s.s. arizona. they say they remembered the attack by japanese bombers like

it was yesterday. more than 2400 sailors marines and soldiers died in that attack. ♪ >> the bay area hosted a similar memorial here on coast guard island. pearl harbor survivors were honored for their bravery on december 7th, 1941. they included the people at the diamondhead lighthouse and on a smaller ship that rode out the attack in the middle of the action. >> they went after us. >> it happened so fast and quick and it was only about ten minutes of action. >> many of the survivors really don't even like to talk about what they experienced. but some are speaking out now so they can make sure their stroirs are not forgotten --

stories are not forgotten. two retired military received surprises. they are members of the wounded warriors project which helps service members. yesterday, both were honored for their years of service to their country and to other veterans who suffer from post- traumatic stress disorder. bill davidson, the great grandson of harvey davidson told them to pick out any motorcycle they wanted off the showroom floor in san diego. >> shock in awe, was pretty much all of us. we weren't expecting that. it was a blessing, really. >> unbelievable. unimaginable. it's a lot of money. >> each bike sells for about $30,000. 7:26 is the time. coming up next on "mornings on 2," bay area school districts spying on their own students. the reason some are hiring private investigators in the name of protecting school resources.

>> you threw in a little fog, too. >> well, there is a little bit of that and there listen -- there will be a lot of rain coming in. not today or tomorrow unless you are up north. but fog is a bigger issue. want to get to this wednesday, thursday and friday. we have what looks to be -- and i rarely use this term, major storm. 2 to 4 inches in the lower elevations. 4 to 8 is certainly likely in some of the highest. it will be the heaviest rain in four or five years. and san francisco -- last time they had a two-day total over 4 inches was february 3rd, 1995 -- 1998, excuse me. also coming in on the navy of the -- one of the strongest storms ever to hit was in 1995, december 11th. wind gusts to 103 miles an hour at angel island. 102 in sausalito. it's coming up on the 19th anniversary. everything is setting up what looks to be a major wind and

rain event. all eyes are on it. everything is pointing in that direction. there are recent rains coming in. it can be very foggy. this is when we flip flock the coast. summer -- flip-flop the coast. summertime is when the radiation and the tule fog. some rain up north, mainly south to the sacramento valley. there's not a lot for us. but ukiah north could be moderate rain or heavy rain. for us 50s on the temps. overall look for a mostly cloudy day. there might be a few sunbreaks. that will give way to partly sunny, mostly cloudy skies. highs will be in the 60s. more on our william coming up -- system coming up. here's sal. thank you very much. i want to mention the san mateo bridge. it's terrible. we had a stalled car on that span. they cleared it. but traffic is terrible from the 880 freeway all the way across. you might want to think about

dumbarton or bay bridge. it's backed up for a little bit. it's a normal backup for 30, 45 minutes depending upon where you approach from. that's the time it takes to cross the bridge and get to the san francisco side. also the traffic on 880 looks good. no major problems. this commute usually doesn't starting busy until 8:00 northbound on the right getting town area -- up to the area. i want to mention the traffic will be busy in san francisco. look at southbound 101. it is a little bit busy. 280 southbound maybe a little bit of a better ride. back to the desk. we're focused on berkeley, more violence, vandalism and looting it marred what started out as a peaceful demonstration last night. ktvu's brian flores live along shaddock avenue now. brian, i know a lot of businesses are cleaning up again this morning. >> reporter: they are, good morning. it's unfortunate. it started off as a peaceful protest. we continue to be at this

mcdonald's in berkeley. you can see several windows boarded up now. they were broken as a result of some people wanting to cause trouble last night. still, as you mentioned, as well, a lot of cleanup over the weekend's protests and certainly from last nice early this morning -- from last night and early this morning. when we arrived at 5:00, 5:30, crews were here. it doesn't appear this mcdonald's is open for the day. at least 11 windows were broken as a result of unruly people damaging businesses mainly along shaddock in berkeley. some people broke windows in front of the bank and damaged an atm as well. i'm told that nothing was taken inside the bank. some workers i spoke with actually a worker at a -- at a sushi restaurant is nervous his business is next. >> it's not necessary. it shouldn't be like this. >> reporter: also damaged chp

says five of its patrol cars were damaged in last night's protest. these pictures from twitter show brokege windshields and dents to the cruisers. the chp tells us, they faced a large crowd trying to shut down highway 4. two officers suffered minor damaged. windows damaged at a chase bank. peaceful protesters tried to stop unruly people. berkeley city hall damaged. another bank damaged as well. i actually spoke to the security in front of the citibank and he tells me he's been here for several days watching protesters, watching the damage. he said i don't know what this is but it's not protesting. we're live in berkeley. back to you. >> good to see it's peaceful now in your surroundings. 15 police officers in

richmond will start to wear body cameras. the department says they will help protect officers and the public. in january, about 100 more cameras will be available for the rest of the department. a study by the southern california police department found a 60% drop in the use of force and anle 8% drop in the number of citizen complaints after officers started wearing body cameras. 7:36. some bay area school districts reportedly are spying on their own students. a new report shows some school districts have hired private investigators making sure kids really live where they say they do. according to the contra costa times, the investigators photographed children whose childrens who are suspected of lying about their addresses. this comes after reports that some parents are using family members addresses to get their kids into a better school district. several investigations have already led to the dismissal of hundreds of students. well, disney is responding now to a request made by a mother in antioch to include

more characters with disabilities in disney movies. now, the woman's daughter has down syndrome. she has delivered a petition with 75,000 signatures to disney studios. according to the contra costa times, disney wrote a noncommittal response. it said the company is committed to creating characters that are accessible and relatable to children. the mother is optimistic disney will consider her request. a 6-year-old utah boy is safe and sound after falling into an open manhole where he was trapped for hours. he was found thanks to the keen senses of a heroic police dog. copper is calling him his new best friend. the bloodhound is credited with safeth the boy's life. colin was flying a kite behind his home when he fell down 10 feet into an open manhole. he broke his arm and for three hours he yelled for help. when he didn't come home, his

handover to the afghan forces. they will keep 15,000 in training and support. that's a larger number than originally planned. a senate report due thought week on cia interrogation methods has some people concerned about possible repercussions. dianne feinstein who chair, the committee has been fighting for release of this report. now, secretary of state john kerry called feinstein on friday, asking her to delay the release of the report. he's concerned, along with others, that details in the report will put american lives in danger overseas. that report is expected to detail interrogation methods such as deep deprivation, conbinment -- sleep deprivation, comfinement and even waterboarding. 30-year-old craig white is

accused of using phony claims of inspecting smoke and carbon monoxide detecters to get into people's houses in citrus heights. police say he rifled through their medicine cabinets, looking for prescription drugs. fire officials say they received eight complaints and that led to white's arrest. >> i was both a little mystified and, you know, disappointed. >> if he's going around taking things from people, well, he's the grinch that stole some people's christmas. >> craig white remains in custody. he's on administrative leave front fire department. he's scheduled to be arraigned tomorrow. the u.s. postal service says a large amount of mail was either lost or damaged over the weekend in a big rig fire in hayward. the truck was taking the mail from san francisco to los angeles. it caught fire on highway 238. the crews worked for several hours trying to get that mail out of the wreckage.

they are still trying to sort through all of the damage. they will give us an update on everything about the situation soon. but in the meantime, if you have any questions about the mail, get in contact with the u.s. postal service. >> oh, boy. >> yeah. 7:47 is the time. let's check back in with sal for a look at traffic. any problems you are keeping an eye on? >> we were talking about the thick fog as steve and i have been talking about. the traffic has been impacted in some of these areas. look at highway 24, kind of emerging now. we can see it out of that dense fog. it's moderately heavy as you drive up to the caldecott. but fog was pretty thick in parts of san ramon and walnut creek and also gilroy who had reports from all other he the place. someone just -- someone just tweeted me advice that i gave people, don't use the high beams in the fog. it's actually doing okay at the bay bridge toll plaza this morning. it is backed up for a 15, 20 minute delay at the toll plaza. 280 in san jose, northbound,

that traffic looks good. it does slow down at the 880 interchange. 12 minutes -- by the way, before i go to you, steve, i want to remind you that the san mateo bridge, not good. we had an earlier stall. things are recovering there. hello, steve. >> how was your weekend? >> great. yours? >> very nice. thank you. overall, yes. not too much rain on the weekend. some areas got okay rain. it looks like thursday everything will get in on the rain. you can do a rain dance but don't dance too much. we don't want to overdo it. we to have areas of fog more so toward the inland areas than by the coast. it's that time of year for good reason, a lot of mostly cloudies. the rainfall, we don't want to sound the alarm. but it's three days away. it may not start until wednesday night in thursday. by that 2 to 4 inches in some of the lower elevations. 4 to 8 some of the higher. maybe the haste yef we have -- heaviest we have seen.

it's also coming in on the 19th anniversary of the strongest wind gusts, december 11th, 1995. 103 miles an hour at angel island. some of you may remember that. we're not expecting anything like that. but it does look like a decent system. first we have to deal with some of that tule fog out in the valley. fog has developed overnight because of the recent rain. boy, did the hills turn green like ireland or what? just like that. foggy, mostly cloudy, light rain to the north. it looks like everything is staying north towards mendocino county, lake rain. nep rain for us will be light. there could be a little bit. you can see the heaviest amounts northward. not too much to the south. a lot of cloud cover. mostly cloudy day. 50s on your temps. a little chill for some. if you are stuck inspect fog, can't see across the street, the 20s up in the mountains and

speaking of the mountains, national weather service sacramento not messing around one iota. they've already issued a winter storm watch for wednesday into friday for the sierra. snow level will be measured in feet. there will be more cold air. this is like one of the old systems we used to get. not one of the mild systems. this is racing across the gulf of alaska. it's heading toward us. not much in the way of rain for us. there are signs of a strong system and heavy rain for us. i've seen seven-day outlooks for precip of a total of 7.50 inches over san francisco. 7 to 8. if that materializes marin county, russian river and santa cruz mountains would see more than that. 60s on the temps. kind of mild for some. you get enough of a sunbreak. the days are getting very short. fog will be with us tomorrow morning. looks very foggy. wednesday increase of clouds. could be main in the north bay late wednesday. thursday into friday, rain,

cloud. rain to the north far to the north. sun to the south. 60s on the temps. i heard we had a stall on the san mateo bridge, sal. is that still there? the stall is gone but the traffic is not good. the bridges do not have stalls on them anymore but in case you are wondering, just about to leave the house, add extra time for the bridge. the eastshore freeway is improving. when up get to the bay bridge toll plaza, there's still kind of a robust backup at the toll plaza. that's improving as well. it's backed up for a 20-minute delay, if you are driving in the livermore valley, the traffic is going to be moderately heavy. but nothing too bad into castro valley. back to the desk. thank you, sal. more reports of violence and vandalism after a peaceful demonstration in berkeley extended into the early-morning hours. ktvu's alex savidge joins us with a look at the damage and the scene left behind after a second night of protests over

deadly incidents involving police officers. >> reporter: good morning to you. dozens of businesses were hit here across berkeley. vand amazed during last night eight demonstration and there's a lot of cleanup to do this morning. some of it has been done. let me give you a look. this is the chase bank building on shaddock avenue. nearly all of the windows were smashed during the protest. it began peacefully but quickly turned destructive and in some cases, there was violence. this was the scene all across the city early this morning as crews were busy boarding up windows at various stores that were hit by vandals. this was the radio shack damaged. city hall was also hit at well. close to 600 people nixly were taking part in -- initially were taking part in the demonstrations smarked by ainge -- parked by anger over the deaths of two men by police.

at one point, there was a disturbing attack on a protester. i want to warn you, the video you are about to see is difficult to watch. [chanting] >> reporter: this video that was posted to youtube show as man in a bicycle helmet trying to stop protesters from smashing the windows at a radio shack store and then moments later, someone in a mask hits him in the head with a hammer. police say the victim was taken to the hospital and is expected to be okay. >> unfortunately, this person was trying to do the right thing and trying to keep the peace and keep the people from actually damaging this business and, you know, one person was intent to keep damage and loot the store actually struck him in the head with a hammer. he did suffer some injuries that required him to be transported to a hospital. >> reporter: berkeley says arrested a total of five people last night. they say two of those people

were actually arrested for crimes committed during saturday night's demonstration here in the city. that include, they say, one protester seen smashing a window at a trader joe's store. berkeleyly police are bracing for another demonstration. fliers show that people will gather at 5:00 tonight at the intersection of telegraph and bancroft near the cal campus for another protest. you can imagine police are hoping there's less destruction tonight than there was last night and saturday night. >> thank you, alex. 8:06. san jose police busy investigating a shooting that apparently stemmed from last night's battle of the bay between the raiders and the 49ers. one man suffered life- threatening wounds. ktvu's katie utehs is in san jose now. so what is the latest on the

shooting investigation, katie? >> reporter: i just received an e-mail update from police and the latest that they have is that late last night, that man was still alive. the man who was shot outside the bars here in downtown san jose. there are remnants of the crime scene tape this morning but few details about the shooting that left that man with life- threatening injuries. we do know police detained several people last night. someone at the brittana arms called police around 5:15. police arrived at the location near west santa clara avenue to find one man suffering a gunshot wound. that according to police. the mercury news says the -- a source told them the man is a security guard attempting to break up a dispute outside a bar. as we mentioned, officers detained several men outside the sp-2 bar along almaden way. customers at the brit watched the battle of the bay prior to the shooting. investigators wouldn't say exactly what led up to the

fight. but they told the mercury news it was game-related for sure. now, other than this shooting, there have been no reports of violence related to the battle of the bay. now, we are working to learn if any arrests have been made from those people who were detained and again that man still alive as of late last night suffering from a gunshot wound. dave? >> all right, katie utehs, thank you. we have new details on a stolen car chase that started in san leandro and ended with police shooting a female suspect in oakland. that pursuit started in san leandro at about 8:00 last night and ended in oakland on a cul-de-sac on springfield near 98th and bancroft avenues. now, police say they tried to pull over that female driver but she sped off. at one point, ramming several police cars and police opened fire. >> the driver did ram multiple police cars as well as parked cars while in the cul-de-sac.

the driver also attempted to ram one of the san leandro police cars while the pursuit was in san leandro. >> the woman was wounded and was taken to the hospital where police say she is in grave condition. one officer was treated for minor injuries. also new this morning two overnight fires shut down portions of two major freeway in the downtown los angeles. the first fire started at 1:30. it was at an apartment building under construction. that fire spread to two nearby office buildings, the freeways the 101 and 10 -- 11 a 1 -- and the 110 were shut down. no injuries are reported but the fire's under investigation. lawmakers are giving us a preview of the bills to come. democrats, they promise to push

for more spending on education and social programs. in particular, they are pledging to avoid tuition hikes at the university of california. republicans haven't announced a position on that yet. republicans do say they will work to repeal a greenhouse gas reduction mandate. they are calling it a hidden gas tax. >> the next session will begin january 5th. this week san jose is expected to approve a tax on residents who offer their homes on air bnb. tomorrow, the city council is due to vote on a 10% tax on all air bnb rentals in the city. san jose was one of the first cities in the country to work out a deal with the home hen-- rental company. they will add that tax as a line item on the bills. rent ams will be limited to -- rentals will be limited to 180 days a year. san francisco's budget will

be balanced without widespread budget cuts, that's according to the san francisco chronicle. ed lee will announce the city's financial projections for the come year. and the chronicle reports, city department head have been told they will not have to cut their staff or their programs. the mayor is expected to announce there will be a $16 million budget gap that can be plugged by expected new revenue. 8:11 is the time right now. major monday mess. coming up in 22 minutes, the widespread damage following the violent protests in berkeley and how businesses are picking up the pieces this morning. good morning. right now we're looking at a commute on highway 92 that is not that good. we're also looking at another commute here on 280 in san francisco. it's slowing down on the way to south of market area. mostly cloudy skies. areas of fog inland fog, north bay -- excuse me.

♪ welcome back to "mornings on 2." time now is 8:14. nasa's newest spacecraft which made a near's bull's eye landing is scheduled to arrive in san diego. orion splashed off off the coast of mexico it circled the air twice.

there it will be taken from the ship and then trucked back to kennedy space center in florida where it will arrive just in time for christmas. nasa is counting on future capsules to carry missions to mars. a lesbian wedding in  russia. the couple was able to get married using a legal loophole. one of the brides is a transsexual born male and her passport still identifies her as a man. 8:15. you watched the game yesterday? raiders/49ers? yesterday's battle of the bay turned into a surprising victory for the raiders and a stunning setback for the 49ers. the raiders's quarterback threw three touchdown passes. oakland won, 24-13. an upset win over the 49ers and a soldout cobble low sewell yum. it was the raiders' second win

of the season. probably their biggest win in years. the fans were happy. thousands of fans from both side of the bay gathered for their tailgate parties in the oakland coliseum before the game. it's a family reunion for raiders and 49ers. >> it's all in fun. at the end of the day, it's still love and family. >> we know we are in your stadium. we're here to have fun, love each other. at the end of the day, go home. >> now, the police were busy. they did make several arrests but most of it was for public drunkenness. no repeat of any serious violence as you've seen in the previous games. i have to show you something. a crazy holiday tradition. it happened at the university of arkansas at a game.

some fog was. oh, my gosh. oakley, brentwood, martinez, concord, clayton, livermore, benicia. i was out in benicia on saturday. big hi to simone, the bartender there. 49er fan. her boyfriend is a raider fan. i guess we know who is talking this morning. thanks. you were very kind. i don't get -- a couple people have written me saying i'm not get excite the over a system coming -- excited over a system coming in. that's true. i don't want to hype it. if everything holds together, 2 to 4 inches for many. 4 to 8 for others. the last time san francisco had a two-total of over four inches of rain, we have to go back to february 3rd, 1998. it's been a long time. it's been four years since we've had a good system. but everything points towards that direction late wednesday, thursday and then friday.

this will have colder air with it. it's coming out of the gulf of alaska. mostly cloudy. light rain out of the north. there's not a lot. most that line is northern sonoma county. ukiah, maybe women lits, i know we had fort bragg. there is tear -- this is a very weak system. a lot of fog from the recent rain. watch how this lifts up. we're on the tail end of it. 50s on the temps. low 50s here from orinda, la fayette, alamo, brentwood and pittsburgh. everyone pretty close here. the water temps, this is not el nino. it's just bodega bay buoy at 61. somebody who studies the buoy temperatures, this has to be a record for december 8th, 61 degrees. maybe not but i haven't seen that in -- i couldn't tell you how long -- 61 monterey and half moon bay. very warm. ocean temps helping to feed in. this is not el nino. it's been that way since june. 29 in tahoe.

were yesterday. more than 2400 sailors, marines and soldiers died in the attack. ♪ the bay area hosted a similar memorial on coast guard island. pearl harbor survivors were honor fodder their bravery on december 7th, 19 had 41. they included people at the diamondhead lighthouse and on a smaller ship. >> they went after us. >> it happened so fast and quick and it was only about ten minutes of the action. >> many survivors have been reluctant to talk about what they experienced but some are now speaking out now so that they did make sure their stories are not foregotten -- forgotten. starting today, a bay area police department will start

shaddock avenue. a lot of businesses have to clean up this morning. >> reporter: they certainly do, good morning. we are a on the corner of shaddock and university. we're in front of the mcdonald's, as you can see, several windows are boarded up. several windows were broken as a result of unruly people, part of this demonstration last night. also right next door, this is a bicycle co-op. a lot of people wondering why this business was targeted as well. at least a couple of broken windows. a lot of business owners, cleaning up from over the weekend's protests certainly from last night and early this morning as well. when we got here this morning to the mcdonald's, there there was a lot of glass broken. crews working on boarding up several windows damaged as a result of some untruly people. a sign in front of the mcdonald's says it's closed for the day as employees are spending the morning cleaning up the mess made from last

night. also across the street from the mcdonald's, a city bank was also damaged. some people broke windows in front of the bank and also damaged an atm. i'm told that nothing was taken insides bank. overall, an estimated 500 to 600 demonstrators were out on the streets of berkeley last night. a person who works nearby who saw the whole thing tells me off camera, it was really a group of about 30 people. they were the main culprits of the damage and vandalism caused. i also spoke with the person whose bicycle co-op was damage. he said it's sad for many businesses affected. >> i think that there is a valid reason for people to be demonstrating and a valid need for this sort of awareness nationally. but the guys that who are interspersed between the protesters are using it as a reason to steal things and break things. it detracts from the message and no one hears the message. >> reporter: i'm thering that from a lot of people -- i'm

hearing that from a lot of people. five chp vehicles were damaged. these pictures show broken window, and dents on the cruisers. the chp said they faced a large crowd trying to shut down highway 24. eight people were arrested two officers suffered minor injuries. also damaged were the windows of a chase bank, a whole foods store was actually looted and berkeley city hall as you saw from alex's live shot was also damaged with broken window, and graffiti. we should also tell that you another protest is scheduled for 5:00 tonight. dave, back to you. >> all right. we'll keep an eye on things. 8:35. in philadelphia. end of the eagles game yesterday, it was marked by a die-in. staged by hundreds of protesters. they laid down in the streets outside of the stadium for four and a half minutes. that's to symbolize the four and a half hours that michael brown's body lay on a ferguson, missouri sidewalk after he was shot by officer darren wilson.

now, when this die-in was over, the protesters got up, they moved back on the sidewalks, they cleared the way for the game day traffic. the police were out there, as you can see, they say they were happy everything stayed peaceful. >> people have the right to their opinions. they have the right to protest, we have the obligation to protect everybody. >> protesters say they scheduled their die-in at a major sports event just to force this issue into the spotlight. back here hat home, 15 -- at home, 15 police officers in richmond will start to wear body cameras. it's a test program that starts today. the police department says the body cameras will help protect both the police officers and the public. back in january, about 100 -- well actually in january, about 100 more cameras will be made available for the rest of the police force in richmond. a study by a southern california police department found a 60% reduction in the use of force and an 88% drop in

the number of citizen complaints after police officers started wearing body cameras. some bay area school districts reportedly are spying on their own students. a new report shows some school districts have hired private investigators to make sure kids really live where they say they do. now, according to the contra costa times, the investigators photographed children whose parents are suspected of lying about their addresses. this comes after reports that some parents are using family or friends' addresses to get their kids into a better school district. several investigations have already resulted in the dismissal of hundreds of students. disney now responding to a request from a mother in antioch to include more characters with disabilities in movies. the woman's daughter has down syndrome and delivered a petition with 75,000 signatures to the studios. according to the contra costa times, disney wrote a noncommittal response saying the company is committed to

welcome back. a firefighter was arrested on suspicion of burglary and elder abuse. craig white, 30 years old. is accuse of the using phony claims of inspecting smoke in carbon monoxide detecters to get into houses in citrus heights. after that he's accused of rifling through people's medicine cab comments looking for prescription drugs. sacramento fire officials say they got at least eight complaints and that led to white's arrest. >> i was mystified and disappointed. >> if weiss going around taking things from people, well -- if he's going around taking things from people, he's the grinch. >> craig white is still in custody. he's on administrative leave from the fire department. due to the arraigned tomorrow. the u.s. postal service says there's a large amount of mail was lost or damaged in a big rig fire in hayward.

the truck was taking the mail from san francisco to los angeles when it caught fire on 238 yesterday morning. the crews are out there for several hours trying to get the mail off. still trying to sort through the damage and they will be giving us an update about the situation soon. in the meantime, if you have any questions about your mail, get in contact with the u.s. postal service. one little boy's wish came true thanks to a truck and heart of a u.p.s. driver. u.p.s. released this video of 4-year- old carson of colorado springs. when carson was born, he couldn't drink milk. so the drive delivers a special formula a few days a week. during one of the deliveries, the driver brought him a special electric truck. just his size. he was made -- he was made driver for the day delivering packages throughout the

maps are up. on the lower peninsula in palo alto on 101 southbound, it's slow. let's take it from here to the weather center and hello, steve. >> the maps are not up. that never happens to me. we haven't had a system like this in many, many years. four to five. mostly cloudy skies. any rain to the north looks to be very light. it's also favoring areas -- i think there's something wrong wall street radar image-- wrong with the radar image. otherwise it would show up more than it does. there were a couple of upper 40s around san jose. it looks like they've filled in. for us, a lot of cloud cover. our thursday system coming out of the gulf of alaska. it will have something that most of the systems haven't had and that's cold air support and also a little surface low closer to us which will ramp up the wind. weak system today. generally mostly cloudy skies. again, i don't say major or storm very often. it looks like that will develop on thursday and take us into friday. it looks like the weekend will be all right. mostly cloudy, rain to the north. some sun to the south. thick, morning fog.
