over off the freeway to give us an update. >> reporter: since we spoke at 5:00 p.m. we exited to find some of the streets are also in gridlock. we are at the 680, highway entrance ramp. i want to show you the traffic is backed up for miles. i will show you video we shot of this mess. all lanes are still closed near the allen rock avenue exit. it happened before 3:00 p.m. this afternoon. that was three hours ago. north bound traffic is diverted. southbound drivers are also being diverted. this couldn't come at a worse time, during rush hour. a lot of drivers are coming home from work. here is what one driver had to say. >> it is bad but i feel sadder for the person that feels hopeless enough to do what they are doing. we will keep our fingers

crossed she is okay and she makes it off the freeway okay. we can deal with this. >> reporter: this is caused because of a jumper that over pass. chp says there is no estimated time when the highway will reopen. avoid highway 680 in san jose all together. take side streets or highway 880. we will have the full story at 10:00 p.m. >> looks like it will be backed up for a while. thank you. and now to breaking news in berkeley. these are protesters taking a the streets in berkeley for the third night in a row. voicing their anger over two grand juries deciding not to charge police officers in the deaths of two men. this started an hour ago alcal. they are now marching. >> and we have live team coverage tonight. ktvu's cristina rendon looked

that growing cost of keeping up with the crowds while keeping communities safe. >> reporter: various police agencies are bringing in extra man power, other officers are working over time and this is adding up to a big bill for taxpayers once the protests are over. >> reporter: it has been two weeks of protests on bay area streets. and two weeks of a growing price tag for the damage. shattered windsoes have glass -- windows have glass companies busy. it is making the cost of repairs hard to measure. >> it will be expensive. a thousand dollars each piece. >> reporter: that good be small compared to price of staffing the streets each time there is a demonstration. police officers and chp officers are wracking up plenty

of over time. >> big pay check for them offer as big bill for taxpayers. repair companies continue a profit from the quick fixes. >> hopefully they can get it under control. we will see what happens. >> reporter: police say they are having officers work 13 hour shifts. here in berkeley tonight police will call in aid, a practice they have been doing for the past few days to keep up with the crowds. >> thank you. now to ktvu's john fowler who is live in berkeley as well where the demonstrators are on the move once again for a third night in a row. where are they right now? >> reporter: we are walking down dwight way in berkeley. 300 protesters have been making a lot of noise and walking

down, blocking two different intersections that we have been at. they plan no violence for tonight. but they also don't condone it either. if something were to happen, they say that is part of searching for justice on the streets. the protesters had set up demands to try get the police department to do the right thing. one of the things we heard over and over from them is that they have determined that there is no point taviolence but -- to

violence but if there is damage to businesses or people get hurt, that is just part of what they are doing. the police department is very upset because they weren't given notice about where the march would go so they could help facilitate a peaceful protest. we have several hundred people marching. men a are students. and we will stay with this till it wraps up. for now reporting live in berkeley, john fowler, back to you. >> just to clarify, they are heading towards downtown berkeley? >> reporter: hard to know exactly where they are going. they may be going to the police station, to city hall. one of the points they made. however as we knew from yesterday's protest, this is

loosely organized and they may end up goingen to a freeway gauche going to end up going to a freeway. >> john fowler, thank you. there are new developments in the case of a 14-year-old boy who was fatally stab. a classmate is accused the of killing. the public defender released this video. police say it shows the stabbing of the 14-year-old. lawyers for the man accused in the crime say the wrong person is being prosecuted. ktvu's david stevenson explains now what the video may show. >> reporter: san francisco public defender today released surveillance video of september's fatal stab aing of a 14-year-old. >> there is no -- stabbing of a 14-year-old. >> there is no question they got the wrong person. >> he is hoping to get the

charges dropped. >> we are here today out of desperation because we have an innocent child who has been locked up. >> reporter: he says his client is in blue. and the man wearing dark pants in red stabbed williams. >> two boys turn around and come out. that is the vinyl that is possible -- individual that is responsible for this. watch the hand. >> reporter: he was a freshman student and a football player. his aunt said the release of the video took the family by surprise. >> there is not a second person in custody but there is a second suspect. >> prosecutors say the culpability is still at issue.

>> we are still in juvenile court. it is very important to make sure whatever we do is deliberate. >> the release of the video came over the objections of prosecutors. a judge granted the release minutes into a press conference about the case. david stevenson, ktvu channel 2 news. san francisco police are investigating three more bank robberies in 48 hours. the most recent happened saturday at a chase bank on market street. a robber presented a note to the teller and left with cash. that person was arrested at the scene. then on friday a robber hit a bank and a second bank nearby. police say they are looking into the cases cases individually. >> people are getting desperate. at this point it doesn't seem like they are related. >> they come on the heels of

six more bank robberies since thanksgiving week. crew repaired a broken water main and patched a sink hole in san francisco. the roadway at 20th and lake boulevard in the richmond district is now open. crews finished filling the sink hole this afternoon. water and gas lines were repaired over the weekend. another sink hole opened up in san francisco's coal valley because of a broken sewer line. the city tells ktvu channel 2 news it will take several days to make repairs. barricades are in place. public works crews doubled efforts to replace the aging infrastructure. immigrants trying to avoid deportation may soon get help. they spoke today about the

proposed creation of an office caused immigrant relations. that office will help educate residents about their rights under president obama's executive order and direct them to services for immigrants. the board is set to vote tomorrow. >> perhaps thousands of res dependents will seek protection from this executive order and we need to be ready to respond. >> the president issued a executive order that could help 4 million people avoid being deported. republican members of the house voted to over turn it last week but that vote was symbolic. a woman was sentenced to 15 years to life for a road anal crash that killed a husband and father -- rage crash that killed a husband and father. heather howell was charged. she was chasing her boyfriend when she lost control of her

car. she crashed into car driven by jessie garcia. jessie garcia's car over turned and caught fire and he was killed. a controversial arrest audit on video at the pac 12 championship game at levi stadium. >> the crowd reaction during the arrest that has people asking if the officers went too far. >> a school board about to get an ear full from parents about a practice that some are calling disturbing. why administrators say hiring a private investigator to follow children home is a necessary evil. >> after the break, tracking a strong storm heading your way, when it gets here and how long it will last.

>> a car thief is in brave condition after officers shot her. she refused to stop. the chase ended in oakland. police say that is where the thief rammed her car into a patrol car and officers then opened fire. a female passenger and an officer were hurt and taken to the hospital. police are investigating a controversial arrest at levi stadium during the pac 12 championship game last friday night between oregon and arizona. this video shows several officers arresting a man. police say before the camera came out he got into a fight with staff members and they say he pushed an officer. the crowd watching the arrest could be heard screaming at officers to stop and you can see the offenses hitting him

several times. but police say the blame is on him. >> at one point he is grabbing on to one of the officers and not letting go. so if he would have submitted to the offense's authority a lot of this would not have happened. >> he was arrested on two counts of assaulting an officer and resisting arrest. school district is underfire from parents for following some students home. ktvu's rob roth is live now where some parents call it disturbing but administrators say it is necessary. rob? >> reporter: julie, the school board meeting is just about to begin. there is no public agenda item regarding this but parents tend to bring it up anyway. >> school let out for the day but the school district says sometimes a private investigators follows them home to make sure they live within

the city boundary. >> it is disturbing. it is disgusting feeling to know you have been followed around and someone is lurking around your property without your knowledge. >> she set off a storm of controversy when the school district last month kicked out of school her nanny's daughter. the child has since been allowed to stay but they used a private investigator and he took photos and lied about who he was. >> strange the first step is to hire a private investigator. a first step would be to talk to the parents and open opdestruction. -- up a discussion. >> a small district. they don't have the staff, the dedicated person that they could second out who is available to do the investigation so it is not a frequent acurance but they do

10? >> yeah. a 10. a bunch of rain and wind. it is a big storm. we see storms like this once, twice a year. typically once or twice a year. this will be slightly short lived. it will by saturday morning should be clearing out and that is good news. 2-5 inches of rain could fall. we will see flood advisories. the story is the winds. 50 and 60 miles per hour for a brief time early morning on thursday. so here is the system. stretches back to the date line here. you can see it coming across. materializing as we speak. here is your moisture tap. cold air coming in. fast moving jet stream. that will serve to give us a good size wallop thursday

morning early. thursday morning's commute dicey. most likely. even if the storm moved through by 8:00 a.m., 9:00 a.m. there will be lot of water on the roads. the basic timing. as we get closer to it i will dial it in better. right now we are far enough out it is tough to get the timing right. tuesday evening. clouds. valley fog. dense fog advisory. wednesday. still not much going on. wednesday morning, fog. wednesday afternoon. right? we are setting the ground work for this system. somewhere around wednesday morning -- or night late, and thursday morning early the system moves in. it is not long lived. it is moving through. it will dump significant rain and it will be windy. right now it appears to be between 4:00 a.m. on thursday to 8:00 a.m.

in the morning, maybe 10:00 a.m. thursday afternoon, there will be scattered showers. it will be a neat looking deal but it will be moving through quickly. that is what you need. we can handle a ton of water. the problem we will have is with the wind is wet trees and gusts to 50, 60. power outages will be the big story. next couple days, moistening the atmosphere, thursday starts to go off. lots will change. funny. i have been trying to -- radio, watching tv. people freaking out. i know we are in a drought. these are the storms we get in california. tropical. explosive. it is not followed by two more like it, that is when we would freak out. >> we need the rain. >> absolutely. and the snow. a ton of snow.

it was a tough loss yesterday for the 49ers but that didn't stop the players from helping holiday wishes come true today. a group of 9ers took the kids christmas shopping at a target store. this is the 8th annual 49ers shop with a player event. the kids received a lot of gifts and the players got a lot of smiles and a good feeling inside. >> this is what it is all about. win, lose or draw, this is more fun than -- that is better than a win. >> buying toys for my brother. two brothers. and a baby walker for my sister. >> the kids were each given $300 $300 donated by visa. >> that is so nice to see. mark is off, joe is here. the raiders looked fantastic
