lake merritt and the telegraph corridor:officers have followed hundreds of protesters and there have been arrests. after:00 in oakland, after 8:00 in oakland, a large group were surrounded at the cafe at telegraph and 29th. the business doors opened and dozens filed inside, leaving only the police and a few protesters outside. we have live team coverage of the millions march protest here at ktvu's debora villalon is in san francisco, but let car with cara liu in oakland. >> reporter: we have seen quite a bit of activity this evening that just about wrapped up half an hour ago. now take a look at this video from our helicopter, this was the scene earlier, around 8:00. police surrounding protesters here at 29th and telegraph. it looked like a group of protesters rushed into the

commonwealth cafe and public house. police at intersection had it blocked off to about an hour and a half while all of this was going on. a number of people were arrested. police have confirm that, but haven't provided an exact number of people arrested here. now the evening's protest started about 5:00 this evening, a group of several hundred protesters wound through oakland and opd declared unlawful assembly about 6:30 this evening. earlier today about 3,000 turned out for the millions march in oakland. one of the latest demonstrations protesting the decisions of grand juries not to indict white police officers in the killings of unarmed black men in missouri and new york. it started near city hall and marched to the courthouse. a pokesperson for the oakland police department says this is the largest gathering since the

wave of protest and predominantly a peaceful demonstration, people from all backgrounds taking part and organizers undercore underscoring the leadership for those pushing for change. >> we're the ones falling in the streets because of the police and we're the ones who need the leave the way out of this trauma. >> the court system works better for those with money and better for those in power and works very good for those police officers and it works very horibly for those who are born with less money, inner- city, low education. >> all lives are created equal. black lives matter, brown lives matter, white lives matter. and we have have to work together to ensure that there equality for all. >> reporter: protesters seemed to make several attempts to get on to

the freeway. at 27th and telegraph we saw the group march through that intersection -- the first time someone was burning something and the sec time we saw dozens of officers trying it maintain control and shutting down the intersections for several minutes. we're also hearing about some arrests happening at 17th and franklin this evening. we have tried to reach out to the oakland police department to get more details on those arrests as wells a total number of arrests here many oakland connected to the protests. we'll pass on that information just as soon as we good it. >> caru, i know you had your eyes on several protests and tonight seems a lot different. there was still a large crowd, but not as much or very little violence. can you figure out what the difference is? was it because there are more officers out there tonight? >> reporter: there was certainly the largest police presence and this is only the few days i have been on the ground covering protests, but we saw dozens

upon dozens upon dozens of officers and my understanding there was a strong police presence at the other locations as well and as you say that may have very well been the difference tonight. >> thank you, carra. we want to show you another view from the scene at 17th and francisco. you can see things appear to be windying down. there were police officers gather on motorcycles at 17th and franklin and a number of arrests were made a short time ago, in last half-hour, 20 minutes or so, but looks like things are clearing out and we may have a peaceful evening moving forward, but we'll be keeping an eye on things. it was a tale of two cities, san francisco's day long march all, but disappeared after 8:00 after drawing thousands at its peak. ktvu's debora villalon is live at city hall, the site of a mid- afternoon speech. the civic center plaza was a sea of people of all ages,

races and backgrounds calling for change. tone the same as across the bay, but the tactic somewhat different. -the million march san francisco contingent let their voicings be heard in front of mission police station. it had already been a long day for protesters. and the police, who have kept pace with them. saturday mite's crowd thinning as it moved on. the tail-end of a huge crowd, that set off from the ferry building earlier in the day. >> hands up! >> dent shoot! their chant the samed as though echoed around the country. >> this banner mourning a man shot and killed this year in san francisco. >> reporter: market streets with a mass of

protests are, noisy, but peaceful. and after dark, on market street again, the same. >> i believe in this cause. >> reporter: this attorney attending a conference saw the march and joined in, spur-of-the-moment. >> a ridiculous system are unarmed people can be gunned down and no one held accountable. how is that justice in america? >> for hours motorcycle officers held traffic and suvs followed behind. but san francisco has a big enough force to march along on either side. keeping splinter groups to a minimum. how is that san francisco managed to avoid the vandalism and violence of equivalent bay? >> that is something that we sit down and we'll conduct actuary reports and see what we have done well and what we're doing different? and maybe sit down with our partner agencies and see what we can share with them. >> the. >> reporter: the protests melted away at 24th and mission.

>> people need to get into it because the whole system is built on exploitation and oppression. >> reporter: we watched as more than a hundred officers most of them brought in on days off, boarded buses and finally off work for the night and i asked the deputy chief what all of this overtime is going to cost san francisco and he says does he not have that number as of yet. it's worth noting ken, that michael brown's father will be in san francisco tomorrow, speaking at the first baptiste church at 4:00 and that is very likely to draw a big crowd of supporters. >> talking about the overtime, i think oakland police say it cost $1.3 million for them and it will be interesting to see what san francisco has to say about their situation. debora villalon in the city, thank you. more details now on marches today across the country. we're going to show you a protest in new york that shut

down the brooklyn bridge. thousand of protesters were all day long cawing for justice in the wake of decision not to prosecute white police officers in the death of unarm black men. earlier the mother of choke- hold victim eric garner rallied the crowd. >> this is just a great moment. this is a history-making moment. and you know, we need to stand like this at all-times. >> no justice no, peace. >> in washington, d.c., the march traveled up pennsylvania avenue from the white house to the u.s. capitol. domors called on congress to take action and appoint special prosecutors to oversee cases about the use of force by police. joining us now is civil reicherts attorney john burris who has been involved in many police abuse cases including the oscar grant shooting by a bart police officer. john, thank you for joining

uses how effective do the think the protests are-they are effective in the sense that they are bringing people together and articulating their concerns in a national way. rarely do you have an opportunity to see this kind of protests in hundreds of cities and with thousands and thousands people protesting. basically saying that the criminal justice system has essentially forsaken a sense of truthfulness and righteousness. i think it's very, very important what they are doing and obviously no one wants to deal with violence, but to the extent that many people have participated and mostly of them have been nonviolent, i think it's extraordinarily important. of course you now have to take the issue of protesting to the next level and that is that you have to figure out what that you would like to accomplish and that is something that leaders of the protest march will have to work through. >> and what about that, about the violence? that seems to have detracted from the message, hasn't it? san francisco police chief last week said that the police would

like to facilitate these peaceful protests, but there are is people who are imbedded themselves in the protesters causing these problems. >> of course you always have a minority of groups that will try to undermine it by their own particular protest, but i don't think we should lose sight of the fact will are many, many more people that are participating who are not in fact, violent and who feel very, very strongly about this issue. this is a unique time in our history. we have this number of people, this cross-section of people, nationwide, planning in an issue that really has struck home. and videocameras are basically i think have been at the center of all of this. >> john burris, civil rights attorney in oakland. thank you for joiningion us. we did try to contact law enforcement officials current or former law enforcement overtimes to participate in this, but we are unable to do so tonight. at uc berkeley campus police are investigating a disturbing find that appears to be linked to the ongoing protests. ktvu has decided not to show

guerrero and hit one car in the intersection and hit three for parked vehicles. truck flipped on its side and the driver and another person were taken to the hospital, but their conditions have not yet been released. coming to an airport near you? the way international airports are making it easier for pet owners to leave their four- legged friends behind right at terminal. the sony hackers apparently got something secret and if james bond were real, the hackers would now know his every month move. almost a foot of rain fell in some parts of the bay area and some neighborhoods are pumping out of water. the 10:00 news continues in 90 seconds.

lifeand thankfully, of shaving stuff. being able to find backups. . pumps out again in the bay area, public works crews hoping to drain the final 6" of water from these neighborhoods after dozens people had to be rescued. communities on the peninsula are still cleaning up after the storm left my areas underwater. allie rasmus shows you the meg that redwood city crews tackled today. >> reporter: it took two hours for redwood city public works crew to soak up the water that flooded this mobile-home park. >> 750 gallons per minute and it's been two hours. >> reporter: it was nothing compared to the flooding here thursday morning.

residents at the mobile-home park were wading in storm water waist-deep many some spots and 48 hours later there was still a half foot of water on eastern edge of the park. >> i know we need the rain and everything, but it's very bad. >> reporter: residents say flooding isn't uncommon. the park sits next to a canal, east of the salt ponds and the bay, but this was the worst flooding they had seen in ten years. >> water was everywhere and people's stuff was floating and trees and toys, balls, everything was just floating. >> reporter: public works crews used pad pads to soak up the gasoline- infused water. firefighters helped people evacuate this park and the one net door and wanted everyone in these 200 homes to evacuate, but not everyone heeded the warnings. >> not everyone wanted to leave and we were advising them of contaminated water and the possible health concerns and we asked them if they wanted to leave, we were providing shelter for them. >> reporter: after the mobile-home park

flooded someone went and dug you will this berm, hoping that the water in parking lot would flow back out into the canal and instead the opposite happened and more rain and high tide brought all the water back in. public works crews say they didn't do this. they believe it was a resident who dug up the berm. >> instead of fixing the problem, they initiated a bigger problem. now we have an open trench. >> reporter: along with pumping out the water, crews plan to fill up the trench with dirt and sandbags because there is more rain expected next week. many redwood city, allie rasmus, ktvu channel 2 news. despite in rain today local reservoirs were filling up within the ongoing run-off. look at change during the last month at a couple of south bay reservoirs, lexington on highway 17 is more than double his supplies last 30 days and coyote reservoir and stevens creek has gone to almost half

. tomorrow marks the second anniversary of the sandy hook school shooting 27 lives were taken at elementary school the i memorial is being construcked to honor the lives lost that day. 20-year-old adam lanza shot and killed his mother before driving to the school and gunning down 20 children and 6 educators. san josi, oakland and san francisco held gun buybacks today, the goal to get the guns off the streets and out of wrong hans the police collected hundreds of weapons as cristina rendon reports san josi reports that the event was a success, even though they only collected of a half of what they did last year. >> reporter: one by one people showed up in san josi opening their car trunks to turn in weapons to police. >> two shotguns, two revolvers. >> i'm just glad to get rid of the gun. >> reporter: the gun buyback program is a

two drivers collide on a napa highway this morning, one them died and the other arrested for dui. highway patrol says a truck and another vehicle crashed on highway 29 north around 5:25. highway patrol has not released information on the person who died. the other drive a woman was injured and taken to the hospital, where she was arrested. besides the kuf, authorities say serious other chars are pending. the highway patrol in south san francisco police are investigating a hit-and-run crash that injured a motorcyclist. the crash happened just before 6:00 this evening on northbound highway 101 at the airport boulevard off-ramp. according to officers a white pickup truck hit the motorcyclist of the extent of the victim's injuries have not been released. >> many san josi, children battling life-threatening officers were part of cops care

. a tree came down in san ramon and blocked the road for several hours. work crews cut up the tree and got the road cleared. traffic was detoured. arborists have warned that trees may fall in the days ahead because the soil is so saturated and as we're about to find out more rain in the forecast. yes, indeed. more rain in the forecast. in fact, i think 24 hours from now, we come back here, we'll be tracking rain by then. in the meanwhile we have mostly cloudy skies and a quiet night out there, a beautiful look at the bay bridge. those mid and high-level clouds going to make it a little tough for us to see the meteor showers and fog returning as well. we have a lot of residual moisture from the rain we received earlier in the week and fog already reported in areas libe you livermore and concord, 5-6 miles. a i as we get into the overtime

hours and tomorrow morning, santa rosa and napa will be included in this. so tomorrow morning may be a little tough on the roadways. check in with us before you head out. 47 in livermore and you get around the bay, temperatures in the 40s awn low 50s. 50 in oakland, mid-40s in redwood city, half moon bay, 46 and san francisco at 51. the winds will pick up with the next system that will move in for the most part your supposed is going to be a dry day. we'll wake up with the morning fog and cool temperatures and chilly start and cool temperatures expected for the afternoon of those scattered showers will develop after sunset. i can show you where the storm is at the moment, but it will be continuing to slide our direction and it looks like by sunday night into the evening hours, those showers are going to be moving in. let me show you what i mean. we'll pick it up for you sunday morning, mostly cloudy skies and walking up with the fog of it's a chilly start to the day.
