25 arrests. another protest is just getting underway in oakland. ktvu's paul chambers is there. what is going on right now? >> reporter: people are starting to gather here. 20 so people just got here. getting ready for another protest today. organizers say they will walk around a lake to remind people that black lives matter. >> reporter: police officers deja vu. dozens of people cameitute protest what they are call -- came out protesting what they call inequality by law enforcement. 200 people shut down downtown oakland. as protesters stat in the street blocking traffic, one man sat high atop a pellagpole at the police department and

others -- flag pole atop the police department and others formed chains. angry and heated, the protest never turned violent. >> stepping up to be a part of the fight. this isn't a matter of policing and black, it is policing and the community. >> reporter: police separated the protesters and arrested 200. this is taking a toll on the officers and the community. >> we are entering our fourth week with protests. you have to say services in other areas of the city can and have been impacted. >> reporter: coming up at 6:00 p.m. what police are doing to secure other areas and how they are working around the protests. you can see there are people gathering here. we will bring you the latest as

it develops. frank? >> thank you. paul chambers live at lake merritt tonight. it is not a familiar place for the 49ers. for the first time in a while they are not in the playoffs after yesterday's loss and that is raising more questions about jim harbaugh's future. mark ibanez is here now with what jim harbaugh had to say today. >> jim harbaugh hasn't been open about it. even said he had a recessive gene with regard to talking about his future. this is the first time in his tenure that the 49ers will not be in the playoffs after they lose for a fourth connective time in seattle to the big rival of the team and jim harbaugh's rival as coach, pete carroll. today jim harbaugh was humble as he talked about what the 49ers could make out of the last couple games of their season. >> we have a lot to play for. play next two games like our

lives depend on it. so -- play for a winning season. playing for each other. playing for the team. playing for the honor of the game. >> the honor of the game. but the 49ers have two more games left to play and against tough teams. it will be san diego playing this saturday and arizona cardinals the week following. the 49ers won't be in the playoffs and they have a 7-7 record which, of course, in his tenure that is their worse record. they seem it be going in the opposite direction. super bowl, then had championship game and this -- the championship game and this year not to be in the playoffs. >> if not jim harbaugh, then what names are you hearing?

apartment. he shot and killed her and took their two girls. a neighbor said she spoke to him just moments after hearing gunfire. >> heard gun shots and heard the kids yelling mommy. he said let's go. we got to go. >> police say stone went to two nearby community wheres he killed -- communities where he killed five other people. no word on what motivated the shootings. a south bay police officer under investigation after posting controversial tweets. the comments that sparked an outcry and how the department is responding. >> the timing of light and heavy down pours tonight and what to expect for your morning commute. >> a sudden crash. >> we knew something fell. >> the situation that forced people to evacuate and how it could have been much worse.

crews were out in napa cutting up a tree that crashed down. it happened this afternoon. you see the tree roots and all came out of the saturated earth. they will be looking that home to decide whether or not it has to be red tagged. we are seeing problemalize around the bay area. flooding. in san francisco, ktvu's cristina rendon reports. . >> reporter: they just finished up cleaning up the rock slide in telegraph hill. it was caused by today's rain. but thankfully not as bad as it was last week. >> reporter: another day of rain is needed but not the problems that come along with

it. >> reporter: early this morning trees started falling like this 75-foot tree that came down. in the peninsula storm drains were met with streams of water. cars made a slash getting on to 280. but it was all work in redwood city. >> i am going to pump this stuff out. >> reporter: he is pumping out water at the mobile home park where he lives. she worried about the canal. >> even if it worked, if that over flows won't do any good. water comes over right here. this low spot. >> reporter: a mix of damage belongings took over the dumpsters. >> it is hard to replace all my stuff i lost. it is sad. it is really bad. >> reporter: it is enough to keep her awake at night. >> i am stressed. i am not going to get much

francisco international airport. they report 145 canceled flights. weather prompts sfo to implement a ground delay program. san jose and oakland say flights are on time today. pg&e is out at a mobile home park after two power poles fell on top of a couple homes. ktvu's noelle walker has been there all day. how did this happen? >> reporter: pg&e is trying to make sure it doesn't happen again. the sky is clear right now. that was not the case this morning. it was windy and raining and that proved too much for two power poles that fell like dominoes. >> reporter: pg&e crews doing a high wire dance with 50-foot 1,000-pound power poles after two power poles snapped.

a cyber attack at university of california at berkeley but information of some employees at risk. the information compromised included social security numbers and credit card numbers. they have begun to notify 1600 current and former campus employees that their

information may have been hacked. officials say it was done by someone who gained access to servers in their real estate division. there is no evidence they used any of the information. sony is warning news outlets to destroy all information stolen during a cyber attack. over the weekend a script for the new james bond movie. sony says companies that publics is that information will face legal action but experts say any lawsuits would run counter to freedom of the press. 9 families involved in the sandy hook elementary school shooting two years ago filed lawsuits today. the lawsuit filed against manufacturer, distributor and seller of the rifle used in the shooting. claims the rifle should not have been made publicly

available because it is a military weapon. 26 were killed in the shooting. the despite between minnesota vikings star running back adrian peterson and the nfl has landed in federal court. the nfl players association filed a lawsuit today on adrian peterson's behalf. it is asking thedurate vacate a decision last friday which upheld the league's suspension of adrian peterson over child abuse charges. the players association says the suspension is longer than what is allowed by the collective-bargaining agreement with the league. adrian peterson pleaded no contest to mistled assault charges for using a switch to discipline his son. the death of a rhinoceros brought it closer to extinction. the typical life span is 45 years. this one lived to be 44. the zoo says he died of natural

are supposed to behave on social media so that investigation will look at whether phillip white violated the policy because of that tweet and another one. >> reporter: when demonstrators took to streets to protest grand jury decisions, san jose police officer phillip white took to twitter to voice frustration. ops live matter he wrote athleten me or my family and i will use my god given right to kill you. by the way if anyone feels they can't breathe or their lives matter i'll be at the movies tonight, off duty, carrying my gun. this is video of phillip white earlier this year at a elementary school where he used to work in an anti-gang program. >> reporter: he is no longer involved in that program or on

patrol. he is on paid administrative leave. the police chief said in a statement it is important for the communities to know the comments made on his account do not reflect the thoughts or feels of the men and women that san jose police department. nor do we condone this behavior. the police officers association is not coming to his defense. >> we condemn these comments. >> reporter: the vice president could not answer questions but recited part of the statement. >> offensive, disrespectful or inappropriate social media comments have no place in the public discourse surrounding the tragic loss of lives. >> reporter: san jose police department said there is no time 39 complete the -- line to complete the investigation and wouldn't talk about punishment.

in oakland high school students walked out of class today for a rally against police violence. students gathered outside the b.a.r.t. station. that is the same station where oscar grant was shot and killed by police officer in 2009. b.a.r.t. says the station was closed today because of the protest. the mother of a boy who was shot and killed by a police officer in cleveland said her son never had a chance. here is the surveillance video

to stay docked. ktvu's tom vacar was out on the bay today see what storm water tossed type shipping lanes. >> reporter: the u.s. army corps of engineers takes to the shipping lanes, netting and towing 12-1500-ton as year. because of currents and winds most debris collects at the center bay. this is the busiest part of the bay. >> we had one of the largest tree trunks we have ever seen here. 100-foot ship camel. 22-tons. >> reporter: 22ten piece of debris -- 22-ton piece of debris could do damage. this was found in the richmond interharbor where ships transit

years that hearing aid center gave the gift of hearing to those who couldn't afford it. san francisco bed and breakfast has a new clientele. it is giving teens and other homeless people a place to stay. ktvu's david stevenson is live in san francisco where they say having a home changed their life. >> reporter: the building has been given a new coat of paint and remodeled and they say it has given them a new lease on life. >> reporter: he is finally home after 9 years in foster care and 8 years of sleeping on streets and parks. >> i would be woken up all the time. you are getting a camping ticket. i don't have anywhere else to go. >> he is a formerly homeless young man renting rooms. >> i feel normal. i can be on time to

appointments. i can -- i can look nice. for interviews. i can -- i can feel good about myself. >> it still has touches dating back to 1914 but it reopened last month. there is a kitchen and private bath, along with case management workers to help. >> you look at these young people and having this intervention, being housed, having case management is going to make all the difference in their lives. there are 900 -- >> reporter: there are 914 homeless young people between 18-24. he said this faced strong neighborhood opposition. >> i think people can see this is a wonderful, beautiful place that young people who were unstably housed or homeless are able to live and go to school and go to work. >> now i have a place to stay
