there have been 19 bank robberies since november 22. in some case twos -- cases two to three banks were robbed in a day. ktvu's david stevenson has more. >> reporter: the credit union was robbed on december second. across the street from the fbi san francisco officers which is involved in the investigation and other investigations into the robberies. police made two arrests in three days this week but there are still other suspects at large. >> reporter: he left with stolen goods. >> he wore a clown out fit. mask. >> reporter: police arrested a 35-year-old. the man they say is seen in these photos. along with 3-19 bank robberies

the city has seen since november 22. >> the beginning of the holiday season. that could be a factor. no one has been hurt. tellers shaken up. >> reporter: -- tellers are shaken up. san francisco police arrested the so-called chuck taylor bandit. and suspected in 10 bank robberies. >> he took money away from 7. three other ones he was unable to. >> bad santa robbing a bank in the middle of a san francisco santa con event saturday. most of the robbers aren't getting away with much cash. >> bank have different policies on how much money they could have. it

flooded road. cal fire had to use jet ski to get to the driver because the water was too high for crews to to drive through. the driver made it back to dry ground. >> i was waiting on folks to get me. great tosy how organized the -- to see how organized the operation was. appreciate them coming out to get me to safety. >> he didn't even get wet. they closed that roadway. these incidents are important reminds for drivers not to drive through standing water. police are searching for a suspect in a shooting that happened this morning and it prompted a shelter in place. it happened about 5:00 a.m. that prompted three nearby schools to go on lock down. police say the suspect ran when officers spotted him. police conducted a search but

the man got away. special honor is being given to a patrol officer killed in the line of duty. a porcherate of the officer will be place -- portrait of the officer will be placed on a rose parade float. he was an org tissue -- organ and tissue donor. . >> i hope to meet those who received a spot of him. >> he is one of 72 portrait of organ donors that will be on the flat. the 37-year-old officer was killed two years ago. he was shot on interstate 680. he was assisting an officer. the driver of the vehicle pulled a hand gun and shot him. the other officer returned fire killing the gunman. two police officers rescue

a woman from her burning home and it was recorded on their body cameras. ktvu's ann rubin spoke to the officers about the rescue and they have a story and video to back it up. >> reporter: that's right. neighbors already brought one man out of the home but they knew there was a woman trapped upstairs so they ran into the burning theme save her. >> reporter: the body camera was rollings a he ran into the burning home. a 55-year-old woman was trapped on the second floor. the officers were among the first on the scene. >> i just went up there and i couldn't see two steps in front of me. >> black smoke. couldn't see.

we started crawling up the stairs. >> hello? get out. get out. >> reporter: they found the woman disoriented in her bedroom and had to carry her down stairs. she was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, so were the officers. both inhaled smoke. >> the officers were told to take it easy for two days -- [no audio]

administer view. ktvu's mike mibach has the latest developments on the controversy over the comedy. >> you want us to kill the leader of north korea? what? >> the film prompted a cyber attack against sony pictures, escalating to terrorist threats against movie theaters and in response sony canceled the release and today the president responded to the decision. >> yes, i think they made a mistake. >> that is not who we are. not what america is about. >> reporter: the fbi has evidence that north korea

organized the cyber attack. the president acknowledged the attack did a lot of damage but he wishes they engaged him in conversation. >> i wish they had spoken to me first. i would have told them do not get into a pattern in which you are intimidated by these criminal attacks. >> i would be fibbing to say i wasn't disappointed. >> reporter: that is sony ceo

responding to president obama's comments. he disagrees with president obama saying he did talk to white house advisories about the attack and threats and defended the stupidio. he said it was the movie -- studio. he said it was the movie theaters that said they would not show the film and they had no alternative but to pull the film. >> we have not gaved. we have not -- caved. we have not backed down. we have always had every desire to have the american public see this movie. >> reporter: president obama says north korea will not get away with the cyber attack and threat. north korea will hear from america. >> we will respond. we will respond proportionally and in a place and time and manner that we chose. >> reporter: the ceo asked if he would make the movie again, he said yes. mike mibach, ktvu channel 2 news. in the east bay, a woman made it her mission to make sure under served children are not forgotten during the holidays. she is knowns a miss claus. 27 years ago she began a toy drive at her work. it starts a a small operation for the marine corps toys for tots program but today it has grown to $14,000 worth of gifts for kids. she makes lunches for participates at work who give

her donations. the money she collected is matched by the owners of bay alarm and then she goes shopping. she was full of emotion when we asked her what inspires her. >> i love kids. i don't like -- i can't imagine a child not having a christmas, they have to know people care. >> she does. the marine corps came by to pick up the toys today. there were 34-barrels of toys and 75 bicycles. isn't that what christmas is about? >> good for you. chevron says nothing went wrong but people are concerned about the bright flames we saw yesterday. the investigation that is now underway to see if things got out of hand. >> the san francisco giants fill the void, if you can do that, that was left by pablo sandoval. the local player who is coming back to the bay area to join the roster. at kaiser permanente, everything you need is under one roof.

todays a part of a probe into what triggered the flaring. they are calling it an upset. sources say there were four large releases of burning gases from the unit that lasted three hours. he says they down played the incident. >> this was not normal flaring. this was due to an emergency situation that necessitated releasing the gases. >> two years ago an explosion and fire at a different unit almost killed one employee and sent thousands to hospitals and clinics. investigators found they disregarded safety rules and they agreed to pay a $2 million fine. gas prices are lower than they have been in years and after the new year a new group will be on the look out for potential price spikes. they have been charged with looking for price manipulations. many believe a new gas tax will

take effect january 1 but no such tax exists. they are worried oil companies will pass down the cost of lobbying. >> if there was a gas spike on january 1, we want somebody in state government to look at why it happened, how it happened. >> they say oil companies spent $70 million to lobby politicians. a look at traffic on 80 in berkeley. the average price of gas in oakland $2.80. in san francisco, $2.94. and $2.80 in san jose. the season of giving and sharing. tonight we have a story of giving back. it starts with a woman who lost

her wallet. inside gift cards. she thought all was lost. ktvu's john sasaki reports, a holiday hero saved the day. >> reporter: a dreary day in san francisco had one bright spot for a woman. >> that was a christmas gift. >> reporter: friday she got home and realized her wallet was missing. >> i was back tracking. i was thinking where could i have left it. >> reporter: she figured it must have been stolen. the wallet contained $800 in gift cards. all of it she thought was gone. >> i started panicking and realizing. >> reporter: on monday she called the cafe where she ate on friday. >> they said what color was your wallet. i said black. yeah, somebody turned it in this morning.

>> thank you so much. appreciate that. >> reporter: she is a janitor who found the wallet. impressed with her honesty she gave her a $100 reward. >> wow! >> i think it is incredible that she would be so honest to turn it in and not be attempted. >> reporter: she says she never thought of keeping the wallet or the contents. of them and perhaps a friendship. john sasaki, ktvu channel 2 news. on storm watch tonight. the rain was coming down earlier today. here is how it looked this mornings a the rain was pounding out there. some businesses still have sand bags up from a few days ago. flooding has been so frequent. >> we haven't seen weeks like this in a year or more. our chief meteorologist bill martin has been asking for rain for more than a year now. >> that is what we need. this rain -- reminds me of how it used to be. we had the three year period of drier than average. we were getting used to these winters and now you are getting a winter that you are used to getting. san francisco today. rain over there. 1.2 inches of rain in san francisco in the last 24 hours. look at mountain view, right, .11. san jose just .18.

you can see the rainfall totals fell off. the hit was between the golden gate bridge there, the heaviest rain in the bay area today. the rainfall right now is moving out of the area but not before it put water on the roadways. showers out there in the fairfield area. those showers start to die down. sansan ramon getting drizzle. hayward. wet roadways. the sky is dry right now. over night lows tonight are going to get cool. not going to get clear but cool. valley fog back into the forecast. not a ton. some. that is an issue. the clouds linger tonight. cool. valley fog in the morning. showers possible in the north bay tonight, tomorrow morning as well. i will show you that. this is the set up for the weekend. dry. but a weekend of high pressure. clouds come up over the top of the high pressure.

just in time for christmas, a charity affiliated with the police department got a needed boost. they sent us this video of their warehouse filled with toys for operation dream. it is a change from what it looked like. the toy drive took a hit when the 49ers moved to santa clara. they used to collect toys during games at candlestick

park but people across the bay area stepped in to help. dozens of boxes are packed up and ready for delivery tomorrow. mark ibanez is here. we heard about giants players in positions leaving, and now we are talking about adding to the giants. >> yeah. now they are bringing them in. since pablo sandoval took off for boston the giants have been on the hunt and today is a name that might be familiar to fans, casey mcgehee. last played with the marlens. from the santa cruz area. and he will fill the void. that is what they are hoping. third baseman, played with the marlins. he is 32 years old. knocked in 76 runs but doesn't pack a lot of power, just four home runs all season last year. mean time, giants management has a lot of credibility but you got to awonder, jake peavy

- alex, what are you doing? - i need to document haley's first day on the chain gang. it's not a chain gang. it's community service. and leave her alone. she feels bad enough as it is. okay, i'm torn. on one hand, i'm like, "ugh, i have to pick up garbage all day." and on the other hand, i'm like, - "look at me in orange." - (camera shutter clicks) aw, that's cute. send that to me. haley had a little run-in with the law in college. she was arrested for assaulting a police officer. accidentally. i fell on him. while evading arrest for underage drinking. that was on purpose. they were very lenient with her. she only has to do community service. because i do not have any priors. taking a little too much pride in that, sweetheart. things can get pretty rough out there. i couldn't get my hands on any cigarettes. but i did make you a shiv out of an old knife.
