you now at noon, we're hearing from the family of a window washer who survived a fall from 11 stories. the mayor of new york now responding to criticism after two new york city police officers were shot and killed in an ambush over the weekend. i'm tampa tampa. it's been a month since a 58-

year-old window washer plummeted 11 stories from a building in san francisco. a short time ago, we heard from his family. christian calf on ton -- calfton was there. >> reporter: we spoke with her just about an hour ago here at the union headquarters in fruitvale. she said she's recovering. she said the family is struggling without his income. in spanish, she told us that pedro is talking now after that accident. his health is improving each day but she says he cannot move his right arm or right leg. so far, he's not talking about the accident or exactly what led up to his 11-story fall. he did land on a car, both pedro and the driver survived. the family said he's scheduled to be released to a rehabilitation facility in pleasanton. but the family is struggling financially without his income. >> translator: we need help

during the time of recuperation and to help maintain our family. it's not -- it's not easy to be here asking for help. >> reporter: now, the family has set up a go fund me site to help with the family finances. we have a link to that on our web page. we'll -- the family says they are hoping that the generosity of the community will continue. they said there's been a lot of support from the community and they hope to see more support through the holiday season. coming up, we'll speak to perez's daughter. she's had to drop out of school to help with the bills. we'll have more on pedro's recovery coming up at 5:00 and 6:00. a busy highway is open after the north bay and mudslide there tied up traffic for hours. a large chunk of the hillslide slid onto one and sausalito just before 3:00 this morning.

the slide sent a tree and a light poll crashing on the highway. the chp shut down two lanes while caltrans crews worked. >> this goes beyond a boulder is a large chunk of the hillside that came down. as the crews were clearing the debris, they discovered this massive rock. >> caltrans opened up all lanes an hour ago. an early-morning crash on highway 4 in brentwood has claimed the life of a teenager. as lz lz reports -- as lz lz alex sav vig reports -- >> reporter: behind the wheel, a 17-year-old boy who was

killed on impact. his 17-year-old passenger was taken to the hospital and she will survive. it took crews hours to remove this pickup. the highway was shut down and so was the road down below. >> it came to rest on the k rail. so we can to shut down the road. >> reporter: this accident happened around 4:30 this morning. the chp says the teen dristing the pickup drifted into -- driving the pickup drifted. investigators say it may take sometime to figure out why the victim lost control. >> we'll try to find the driver's background, possibly what he was doing in the last 24 hours. hopefully the passenger can add information to that. his whereabouts, activities.

>> reporter: the work truck had extensive damage but the driver was not hurt. after removing this mangled truck, crews were able to clear the highway and get it reopened to traffic. the chp has not identified the driver who was killed in this accident. in brent wad, alex savidge, back to you. in the wake of the killings of two new york city police officers, police departments are warning their rank and file to wear bulletproof vests while avoiding making inflammatory comments on social media. >> reporter: this family of rafael ramos said he was a deeply religious man who always put his family first. >> he loved his job. he loved his wife, he was a dedicated father. i wish i could be half the man

my cousin was. >> reporter: in the same spot they were gunned down, new york police officers wenjian liu and program now remembered. the two murdered while sitting in their marked patrol car saturday afternoon like lick not even seeing the alleged triggerman 28-year-old ismaaiyl brinsley who had a long rap sheet. he later took his own life. anger directed toward mayor deblasio. his torn officers turning their backs on him. critics blasting al sharpton, suggesting the two helped create anti-police sentiments. >> you have two assassinations, vengeance assassination based on a lie that the mayor and sharpton perpetuated. >> reporter: the criticism didn't stop there. the president getting an earful. >> he's gety of creating an atmosphere of police hatred in certain communities. it's a lie, it's un un--

untrue? >> if they are serious about repairing this feud, start to give praise to the police. >> reporter: president obama did issue a statement strongly condemning any violence, also urging prayer and dialogue. in washington, joel waldman, fox news. new york city mayor deblasio has not responded to the criticism from some in the police community but he did speak this morning on the killings, say they were an attack on the whole city. an attack on them was an attack on all of us. it was an attack on our democracy. it was an attack on our values. it was an attack on every single new yorker. we have to see it as such. >> deblasio asked those upset over the killings of the unarmed black men to be respectful of the families.

an officer shot and killed a shot and killed a heavily armed man. this was the scene in auburn. a gun battle erupted between police and a man who fired more than 100 shots from inside a burning home. police says gunman used a pistol, a shot gun and an automatic weapon to shoot at officers and into nearby houses. fortunately, no one was hit. neighbors say the gunman had a long history of mental problems and had threatened his girlfriend on thanksgiving day. >> she said that he was threatening to shoot her and kill her. i brought her in my house. and while she was there, i got a call from him. he called me and then he started threatening me that he was gonna come and shoot me. >> police say the suspect was killed after he refused to sur ren ter and he fire -- sur remember den and fired -- surrender and fired at officers. fremont police are searching for two home-invasion

online access is totally down. so far, u.s. officials have declined to say if the u.s. is responsible. on friday, president obama said the u.s. government would respond to the major intrusion at sony but did not say how or when. police and firefighters in san francisco are investigating the latest suspicious car fire. crews found a burning car on hartford street in the city's dolores heights neighborhood. this is in the same area where four other cars went up in flames. arson is suspected in all of the fires. investigators are still trying to determine if the same person is responsible for all of the car fires. as a record number of americans are set to hit the road for the holidays, a massive storm is threatening to disrupt travel plans for up to two-thirds of the nation. starting tomorrow, the system which stretches from the midwest to cross the south and up the east coast will bring heavy rain, thunderstorms and strong winds. the brunt of the storm is

expected to hit on christmas eve. meanwhile, a smaller system will target the pacific northwest on wednesday. aaa predicts 98.6 million americans will travel 50 miles or more for christmas. strong winds are causing big problems in southern california. gusts have down trees and caused power outages around los angeles. a high wind warn is in effect for today and winds stronger than 50 miles an hour are expected. >> this is the heaviest i've seen. >> a second but weaker round winds are expected to take place tomorrow ninth -- tomorrow night and into wednesday. there is a lot of surging area. the bay area is getting of the highest tides of the year. the king tide is expected to bring unusually high tides through tomorrow. they peaked today at 11:00 a.m. this is what it was like along

along-- along san francisco's embarcadero. the coast guard expects swells to rise around 7 feet. >> it's a natural phenomenon. usually combined with the winter swells coming off the pacific ocean. we get to see what it looks like to have our bay actually breach the embarcadero. >> the king tides caused large puddles in mill valley. at one point, the exit off stinson beach to highway 101 had to be shut down. that video quite amazing. there will be another high tide tomorrow around this time as well. let's take a look at what's happening. isn't this just a beautiful shot giving you a look there at the low clouds just -- just covering the bay bridge. it's even hard to tell what i'm looking at. i think i see the bay bridge there in and around the back side. we have go the san francisco

sky line and we do have some blue sky up above. all right, let's take it over to stormtracker2. no rain to speak of. but a lot of moisture still residing. here we are with partly sunny skies along the coastline. partly cloudy, san jose is partly sunny. we still have some clouds hanging over the east bay and inside the bay as well. san francisco reporting delays still at sfo. some arriving flights, more than an hour, almost an hour and a half delay there because of the low clouds. just stubborn at this hour. as we get into the second half of the afternoon, we'll be partly cloudy. temperatures will be in the 60s. widespread 60s in the forecast for today. our winds will remain light. we'll remain in this pattern for the next couple of days as this ridge of high pressure continues to strengthen over the bay area but on the back side of this ridge already a storm beginning to form. this may actually bring us a little bit of rain on christmas eve. i'm gonna run you through the next few days. getting into the afternoon,

wean we have the partly cloudy skies. but we're pretty much high and dry. we're into tuesday. not a lot of change going on. the storm track is still well to the north. as we get into wednesday morning, notice it begins to move back towards california. it's now into washington, oregon and clipping northern california. this is wednesday morning. as we get into wednesday night if you celebrate christmas, this will be capacity eve evening we're seeing the possibility of scattered showers in the bay area and the models are becoming more consistent on this. so it turns out we probably are likely to see this. we'll be tracking it between now and then. it's short lived as we get into thursday morning we're already drying out. it won't last. it would lv mouth of the area. this will also include the sierra snow. temperatures in the 50s and 60s. 59 for san francisco. 63 at half moon bay with partly cloudy skies at half moon bay. afternoon highs for today, mid- to upper 60s in the forecast. 8 for oakland. 66 in san jose. 68 degrees for morgan hill. the extended forecast here,

again, temperatures mild. at least for this time of year. today, tomorrow, increasing clouds on wednesday. that chance for scattered showers on wednesday move. move through and we're left with dry conditions. everybody it looks dry -- everything looks dry. temperatures in the low 60s with partly cloudy skies. >> partly cloudy skies. all right. sounds good. thank you. >> you are welcome. the reservoirs in marin county are nearly full as a result of the recent storms. the county water district reports due to the heavy rainfall we had, the reservoirs are now at 99.8% of capacity. on average, marin county reservoirs are at 69% capacity at this time of year. the recent storms have put a big dent in the drought in every california county but the current water situation in marin county is among the best in the state. a south bay charity that helps provide families with christmas toys for children. coming up short this season. the one age gruge that says it's often forgot about.

preliminary reports. the saturday before christmas is often known as supersaturday. analysts say this year's sales could be close to $10 billion. that's more than black friday sales of $9 billion. some expert forecast holiday sales total will be 5.5% higher than last year. that number also includes holiday travel expenses. >> a south bay charity opened its doors to parents who cannot afford to buy toys for their children. but as janine de la vega reports, there's now concern there are not enough toys to go around. >> reporter: important instructions for santa's els of. they are taking -- santa's elves. they are taking stress off parents. >> julie. >> reporter: this woman is a single mother unable to work because of a spinal injury. she signed up to receive twists

for her three young girls. she says without this, the holidays would be struggling. >> i don't have a job. it helps me. >> reporter: the nonprofit is collecting toys for 5800 children. but organizers estimate they still need roughly 3,000 gifts. more families registered this year compared to last. they will have enough today but are worried there won't be enough tomorrow. >> wish's trying to raise -- we're trying to raise some additional funds. we want to make sure that people can drop off their toys and give to families that are doing what they can to get buy. >> reporter: parents got to pick out two toys and a book for each child. some get to take home bicycles. they had to be raffled off. there was a limited amount. >> every time we do something for the kids -- a lot of these kids they don't have fathers, you know, the mothers are
