morning at sfo. however, a big storm is threatening to derail travel plans for millions of americans. high winds, thunderstorms, soaking rains are all set to slam into the east coast and the midwest. coming up in a couple of minute, we'll tech in with alex savidge who has been out at the airport all morning long checking in. he's talking to some very cheery travelers. >> yes. >> they are happy to be getting out of town and heading somewhere for the holidays. >> and meeting alex as well. thank you for joining us. good tuesday, december 23rd. i'm pam cook. >> i'm brian flores. let's get your day started with weather and traffic. by the way, steve is off. rosemary is here and -- >> we're holding down the fort. >> it should be a nice day today. >> yes, it is gonna be a beautiful day. yesterday afternoon, sunny skies, temperatures in the 60s, well above the seasonal average. that's what we'll have for today. this morning we're waking with

partly cloudy skies. i want to give you a beautiful view of the baypoint concord area points to the east. here comes the sunrise. you have 20 minutes until the official sunrise. isn't that a beautiful view? you can see the low clouds there as west it look -- as well. it looks like a pillow to me. maybe because i'm sleepy. we have good weather, if you like it sunny and warm. we have sunny skies and light winds, those two combined with cool temperatures, we have nothing to contend with. it's especially thick over the south bay. san jose has reported right about a quarter mile visibility. you will find it in south san jose off to the east perhaps some through milpitas. take it outy out there. livermore your visibility has been good. in napa, from anywhere from three quarters of a mile to five miles. now it's ten miles. the stretch through american canyon. you may find it in fairfield as well in part, of the central

valley. if you drive to the central valley, you will find it this morning. 48 degrees in concord. we have 47 in oakland. mid-40s in and around napa. 46 for you and 47 redwood city. so a chill in the air with the mostly clear skies out there. but by the afternoon, we're feeling good. take a look at these numbers. 67 in concord as well as livermore. 66 san jose, 68 in oakland. 67 in santa rosa and 65 for san francisco. we do have changes on the way. in addition to a cooldown. we have wet weather coming for christmas eve. i'm going to detail the time line on that for you coming up. good morning, sal. >> good morning. got a service alert from muni that the powell street cable car is not running now. they will be running shuttle buses instead. that's mainly a tourist thing. i do know that some people use the cable car to commute to work. if that's you, you will have a bus instead for the time being. we haven't heard from muni why that is but we'll try to find out more information. let's go to the live pictures. i want to show you the bay

bridge is cleared out. this is exactly you might want to see if you still have to go to work. normally at 7:00 we're full. right now it's getting very good into san francisco. san mateo bridge the same thing goes. the visibility is not an issue as you drive out to the high rise of the san mateo bridge and over to the peninsula. when you get there, highway 101 looks good. we managed to find slow traffic and that's in livermore. but the traffic on the altamont pass has cleared out. it's obvious today is the dropoff day. a lot of people are not going in. a lot of schools are out. you will see slow traffic and fog. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. if you are traveling out of town, you will have a lot of company. ktvu's alex savidge live at sfo this morning. you've been there since 4:00 or so alex. what -- has it gotten more crowded? >> reporter: yeah, a lot more crowded, pam, as we move throughout the morning. a lot of folks getting out of town for the christmas holiday. let me show you the scene.

we've been hanging out curbside here at sfo outside of terminal 2. it sort of comes in waves. you will see a lot of cars come up and drop people off. you will see a lull in the action. bun -- one good piece of news, no delays or cancellations out of sfo. we do understand that could change as we move closer to christmas. there is a very strong storm system that will be moving into the eastern third of the country over the next couple of days. that could impact travel online. some people have dunned this weather system santa bomb. it won't necessarily mean a white capacity. a lot of rain and strong winds that could trigger delays at major airport. airport officials are monitoring that storm and many people tell us they plan to get here very early this morning. worried about how busy it would be two days before christmas. >> they anxious. very anxious.

i thought it would be a lot more crowded in the airport. but it's pretty efficient moving along. >> go with the flow and just kind of give us -- give yourself enough time to get to where you are going. >> reporter: and there will be quite a few people hitting the airports this holiday season. aaa is predicting 98.6 million americans will travel during the holidays. that figure is up 4% from last year. and again, so far this morning, snow is not seeing any dray -- delays. it's the next couple of days we may have to worry about. >> that's true. it's not just today. >> reporter: of course, once you travel, see the relatives for christmas, you have to worry about getting back home and have to worry about the storm system. we'll talk to rosemary about that. 7:06 is the time right now. before you hit the road, you can also track the latest weather and traffic on our website. don't forget, ktvu.com or use

your ktvu mobile app. it's being called one of the biggest airport security breaches in years. a delta airlines baggage handler has been arrested for reportedly running a gun smuggling operation on passenger jets. the fbi says the baggage handler and a former delta employee used carry-on luggage to transport the weapons. police say earlier this month, the men brought 18 guns, seven loaded onto a flight to new york. reportedly, the baggage handler used the security clearance to get the guns past checkpoints. mort details are expected to be release -- more details are expected to be released this afternoon. it starts with a teenaged boy taking a gun from his parents' bedroom and bringing it to school. this is not a school shooting story but rather the beginning of a controversy new public service announcement. katie u utehs has more. >> reporter: we've been showing

this to folks on the street. they stop, think and have thought-provoking answers. many are saying the message delivered in this public service announcement is dangerous. we'll let you decide. ♪ >> reporter: that's the piano music by sleeper 13 productions. it shows a teenaged boy sneak into a bedroom and take a handgun from a dresser drawer shoving it into his backpack. he then takes it to school. scenes that were shot at the north oakland community charter school according to the video credits, this video posted on youtube after students leave the classroom, the teen approaches his teacher. ♪ >> can you take this away? i don't feel safe with a gun in

my house. ♪ >> reporter: certainly jarring images there as he slams the gun on the desk. the words, our children deserve a safe world run on the screen followed by, stop gun violence now. some people say the video is sending the wrong message. >> you feel -- you have a friend, an aunt or uncle, go ahead and talk. >> no one should bring guns to school. but if they don't have any other place to go to, that could be -- i don't want to say safe place but an outlet. >> reporter: we've been checking the youtube page. within the last hour, it's up to 14,000 dislikes and short of 100 likes. so definitely people having a very strong reaction to it. the director of the charter school where this video was made told "the washington times" they were granted

permission to shoot on campus but were not aware of the message beforehand. the backlash on social media against the director has been strong. we've reached out for her comment. she's san francisco-based director. and we've also reached out to the oakland unified school district which overseas the charter school to get reaction from the district. we've posted this on our outlets and would love to hear what you are saying. i've received quite a few interactions on twitter and mostly people saying they feel it's dangerous. but it's spurring a discussion. >> certainly very strong reaction on both sides. katie utehs reporting live from emeryville, thank you. jim harbaugh responding to reports that he could be out of a job by this week, this time next week. fox sports is reporting the 9ers will likely cut ties with harbaugh within two days after the team's final game of the season on sunday. that report came up several times during harbaugh's regularly scheduled news conference yesterday. at one point, reporter asked if

harbaugh if he was ready to speak publicly about him and the front office. >> it's a good question. it's a really good question. [laughter] >> go ahead -- [laughter] >> yeah. the high road is the only road i know. >> harbaugh is almost certain to break ties with the 49ers, despite his largecy successful four years as the head coach. he's reportedly considering offers from the university of michigan. the oakland raiders and the chicago bears. court documents are providing new information about a sexual assault accusation against ray mcdonald. the search warrant and affidavit say the victim and mcdonald ended up at his house after a night of drinking in a san jose bar. the woman said she woke up naked the next morning and couldn't remember anything. she said ray mcdonald ended up admitting to having sex to her. she contacted police and gave the police her cell phone.

in a series of text message, ray mcdonald wrote, i don't understand why you are bothered. you chose to stay with me for another day. i didn't do anything wrong. i felt line we had a real connection and like each other. the victim admits she did stay with mcdonald and went to the store to buy alcohol. legal analysts say these cases can be hard to prosecute. >> she may have consented but the question is was she too embarrassed to lawfully give consent? >> legal analysts say the case will understand to how drunk the woman was around whether or not mcdonald knew she was indocuments tate -- intoxicated. coming up at 7: 30 the reason the spirit of giving may be lacking this holiday season. there will be more victims. >> the attacks that prompted officers to shoot and kill two dogs in the east bay.

welcome back. 7:14. police in san leandro shot and killed two dogs. police say two unlearned pit bulls first attacked a dogger and his dog at the marina sunday morning. the dog that was attacked had to be put down. hours later, the pit bulls attacked a man and his small dogs. after that, the officers say they were forced to shot and kill. >> tried to corral the dogs and wait for animal control to put a tranquilizer to the dogs. they became very aggressive toward our officers. >> police are looking for the driver of a blue toyota pickup seen dropping off the partly sunny skies. pg&e has released a dozen more incriminating emails providing fresh evidence of what critics claim is back channel communications between the utility and state regular

city today, well, if you are driving on 80 westbound or wherever you are going, you don't necessarily have to shop. 80 looks pretty good from the carquinez bridge to the macarthur maze. 19 minutes. if you are driving to the city for whatever reason. the bay bridge toll plaza is not a big backup right now. a lot of people still have to go to work. what's happening, a significant number are not and that is making it easier for those of us who have to work. let me move to the maps. i want to show you the traffic in marin county. slow on southbound 101 approaching san rafael. that's about it. no problems on the richmond bridge. 7:18. let's go to rosemary in the weather center. patchy fog. >> you are right. but where we have the clear skies, it's a beautiful start to the day. good morning, sunshine. it's actually rising right about now. the official sunrise right about 7:22. we're almost there. but take a look at this view. we'll have mostly sunny skies for today. only minor changes in store for

the afternoon. temperatures will be very similar as sal mentioned. we're dealing with patchy fog. it's especially over the south bay. sfo had delays up to an hour because of the low clouds and fog. not today. we're actually in pretty good shape. let's take a look at your travel forecast. we have snow mix in the upper midwest. this will kent -- continue to towsh the east from the ohio valley, stretching to new england. take a look at the eastern half of the country. thunderstorms even a possibility for parts of the southeast. this is what we'll see as we get into the day ahead. there are reports of delays in areas like houston, new york as well as philadelphia. that to be aware of if you are flying out or know somebody arriving to the bay area. we'll remain nice and dry for the second half of the afternoon. temperatures will be well above the seasonal norm as we get into the second half as well. the patchy fog this morning overing part of the south bay and north bay, maybe in and out

of the central valley. that's where we are seeing it thick. outside of that, we have nice weather in store for today. clouds will be increasing as we get into tonight and for tomorrow on christmas eve. it looks like a chance for showers. in fact, looking pretty good at this point. and the models are speeding it up. looked like it was gonna roll through christmas eve evening. now it looks like christmas eve afternoon. i will show you what i mean. in addition to picking up the possibility of rainfall amount, it's also going to give us a time line. by noontime, notice it begins to move into parts of the north bay. by 1:00, it's filling into san rafael. as we get into the 2:00 hour, 3:00 hour, it's creeping down along the peninsula and into the east bay and between 3:00 and 4:00. as far as rainfall amounts. .10 or less expected with this. but we've got a few areas that may pick up more. we'll say 2/10 or less expected with this and sierra snow up. to a foot of new snow expected for the sierra.

as we get into today, one reminder, we have the coastal flood advisory that last for the coastline as well as those low-lying areas along the bay front for the peninsula as well as the east bay our marshes and slews. temperatures a chilly start in walnut creek. 49 for you. along the peninsula, upper 40s, low 50s, for the afternoon, 66 redwood city. 68 in oakland. you are one of the warmer spots. 67 for concord as well as santa rosa. the extended forecast here, today is the warmest day, we begin to cool down tomorrow with the clouds in place, a little shot of rain coming through. we have dry weather in time for christmas day. we're dry for the weekend. temperatures don't move much. >> looking very nice. are you done with your shopping? >> no, i'm not. thanks for pointing it out. >> trying to get it out there. sorry about that. hang in there. >> you got it. coming up, a case of road rage on interstate 80. >> put it in reverse.

listeria after eating a prepackaged caramel apple has filed a wrongful death lawsuit against safeway. 81-year-old shirley jean bought the apples in felton around halloween. she died. the listeria outbreak has affected 29 people in ten states. the family says the health officials have confirmed she had the same strain of listeria has four our people whose deaths are also linked to prepackaged caramel apples. the cdc is still trying to figure out which brands are involved. but in the meantime, it's urging anyone with caramel apples at home to throw them out. 7:26. a bride and groom, robbed of all of their wedding photos. coming up in 20 minutes, how a sentimental stop the couple made after the ceremony to take a few more pictures ended at the point of a gun. >> reporter: firefighters at one station in san jose are facing a health hazard.

little bit hazardsous out there. again, be on your guard we're tracking the fog this morning. san jose looks to be the hub at least for the time being. let's check in with visibility down to about a quarter mile. so all of these freeways in and out of san jose through south san jose, you will find it. 280, 101, 680, 880 all reports patches of dense fog. that means visibility down to a quarter mile or less. as we get into parts of the north bay, we had it earlier. but napa has improved. santa rosa looking good. concord not bad. i see a little patch here. if you are cruising in and out of maybe -- maybe you are away from vallejo, you may find some along 880, highway 1 as well. temperature, mostly clear skies. a chillier start. 48 in concord. 43 in walnut creek. 54 in livermore and along the peninsula. we have 55 for you san francisco. 47 in redwood city. to the north bay, temperatures remain in the 40s. 49 for santa rosa. novato, 48 and 46 in napa. san jose at 50 degrees. for the afternoon, brian touched on it a moment ago.

mostly green. that means mostly go traffic and no stop and go. it's mostly very nice all the way into the castro valley. 880 and 238 also are looking good. 7:32. back to the desk. all right. thank you, sal. a health scare at a san jose firehouse forced firefighters to move out. firefighters say there is a mold infestation and today city officials are supposed to address it. janine de la vega joins us now from san jose to talk about this problem and what this new mayor has to say about it. janine? >> reporter: firefighters are worried. they tell me that mold has been a problem here at fire station 16 here in east san jose on king wood for four years. they say that complaints have been made to the city. it's unclear why it hasn't been addressed until now. last night, our crew was there when firefighters from station 16 moved out. these photos show some of the mold growing.

crews had to move their furniture and kitchen appliances into the garage because they were concerned for their health. the department's command staff visited the station yesterday and determined all 24 firefighters on three shifts needed to move out. some firefighters wonder if the recent rain and the moisture caused the problems at the station to worsen. a fire captain tells us inspectors will be at the station later today to figure out the next course of action on how to clean up the building. >> obviously, this has taken too long if it hasn't happened already. yif above told by the fire chief, they are moving as quickly as they can. i'm confident they will make sure the firefighters are safe and we'll move forward. >> reporter: even though crews from fire station 16 have temporarily moved. we've a been told they will be patrolling the area during peak hours so there should not be a disruption to service. firefighter says cutbacks in the budget may have prevented the city to renovate older fire

stations in the city like station 16. mayor-elect sam liccardo said he will be monitoring the station to see how soon the cleanup will take place. he has been told construction crews will be out sometime later today. it could take weeks to end up getting this whole problem fixed. back to you. >> so it's surprising it's taking them so long to get this taken care of for them. >> reporter: yeah, he didn't have an answer to that. you know, they know there's been mold problems i guess at two other fire stations again, because of the older buildings. but that's really a mystery as far as, you know, truly how long has this been going on and why hasn't anything been done. also new this morning, san jose firefighters investigating three early-morning car fires. two were reported shortly after midnight in the area of south bascom and southwest

expressway. arson investigators are calling these fires suspicious. they are trying to determine if these fires are connected to a third car fire that was reported about 90 minutes later on yerba buena avenue. continuing coverage of the deadly shooting of two new york city police officers. we're now hearing from the widow of one of those officers. and protesters are refusing to honor request from new york's mayor to stop anti-police demonstrations until after the funerals. officers wenjian liu and rafael ramos were sitting in their patrol car on saturday when they were shot by ismaaiyl brinsley. brinsley later took his own life. a funeral for officer ramos is planned for saturday morning. officer lui's family is on their way from china. yesterday, his widow addressed the public. >> this is a difficult time for both. our families. >> now, new york mayor bill deblasio asked protesters to stop demonstrating until after

the officers' funerals but protesters say that's an attempt to stop free speech and they are going ahead with the march planned for tonight. we're also hearing from the family of the shooter. his sister says he was estranged from them and a deeply troubled man. >> this has nothing to do with police real -- retaliation. this was an emotionally troubled kid. he needed helpest didn't get it -- help. he didn't get it. >> brinsley's sister and aunt said they found out about the shooting through the media. they say he was the father of two young children. they also say he had been arrested multiple times and the question people should ask is why did he keep getting released. police are looking for someone who robbed a bride and groom of wedding photos. it happened saturday afternoon after a photo shoot at oakland hospital where the newlyweds met. they wanted to stop by the high school. police say the shoot had just wrapped up when three men

approached and stole their equipment at gunpoint. the stolen equipment is worth $13,000. one of the photographers said aurl they want are the pictures back. police are kof 0 offer -- are offering a $25,000. the oakland raiders are still helping to collect toys for kids in need. people lined up at southland mall to meet four players. they were signing autographs for anyone who donated toys for tots. in two hours, the players collected more than 500 toys that will be given to children in foster care or hospitals tomorrow night. a new survey shows americans plan to give more to charity this year with some cities being more jen us other than others -- jenner ours than others -- generous than others. tara moriarty joins us from a toy drive getting underway in one hour. >> reporter: we're next door to fire house 9 where in one fire, the san francisco fire department is kick off the toy

drive. at 8:30, people are gonna come by and doe drop off presents -- and drop off presents donated. the biggest reason for the spike in donations this year, americans are feeling confident economically. we spoke to one worker at a coffee shop who said through his church he's been donating food an clothes to help a family in need. >> i feel like it will help a lot of people. i actually put myself in their place. i've been in times of need. so i know -- i know the feeling of struggle. >> reporter: so which u.s. cities are the most generous? salt lake city, utah top honors, memphis, tennessee and burling -- burlingham, alabama and then san jose at 48th.

welcome back. the two victims for the hostages in australia have been laid to rest. there are reports that tori johnson tried to grab the hostage taker's gun when it went off. that gunman was killed when police stormed the building. a public memorial for katrina dawson was also held today. the lawyer and mother of three died while shielding her pregnant friend from the gunfire. that woman spoke at dawson's member and she says if there's one thing we can learn from dawson 'example, it's how to love and show love. a woman is facing several charges after a road rage incident on interstate 80. one of the victims caught the whole thing on camera. >> she just hit our car. she's pushing off the road.

she's pushing off the road. she's coming for us. put it in reverse. >> it all happen happened saturday afternoon. a passenger in a white mazda called to report a woman was tailgating them. at one point, they hit the mazda and pull in front and blocked it. the woman got out of the explorer. people told the woman in the mazda to deep drive -- to keep driving. the driver of the explore, 50- year-old deidre aroko was arrested and charged with reckless driving and obstructing an officer. atherton police are searching for a man who followed a 13-year-old girl and took pictures of her. that happened yesterday morning while the girl was jogging here park lane and camino. police say a man in a dark gray toyota prius followed her for death blocks and took pictures of her when she stopped to tie her shoes. he's described as caucasian, unshaven with a medium build and wearing a red and blue

beanie and dark sun glasses. u.s. officials are not saying whether they had anything to do with an outage in north korea that lasted for nine service. this came amidan escalating war of words between the united states and north korea over the cyber attack on sony pictures. president obama said the u.s. would respond proportionately to the attack on sony without giving specifics. a state department spokes bern would not confirm nor deny whether the u.s. had anything to do with the outage in north korea. >> it could be anything. that's part of the problem. it could be mismanagement. it's very possible this is a bad day to be an i.t. administrateert in north korea. we have no idea. >> there's very little internet access in north korea. it's mostly restricted to government and military use. 7:46. and the eighth and final candle will be lit in san francisco's union scare. the ceremony begins at 5:00.

week, too. 580 which is where we go to find slow traffic, we can't see it right nowsm. traffic looks good as you drive true. in the south bay, the freeways are also looking good. santa clara valley doesn't seem to be having a lot of issues at the moment. 7:47. let's go to rosemary in the studio. >> yes. a pleasant drive and a pleasant day in store. this morning we are waking up with a few patches of dense fog. that still remains but not from this beautiful shot here where we have mostly cloudy skies. we've got some nice winter weather coming our way for your tuesday. but changes coming as early as tomorrow. for today, the ridge of high pressure still in firm control. you can see the arch here pushing that storm track well to the north of us. at least for now. patchy fog still reported in areas like san jose and napa now reporting visibility down to a quarter mile. we're not finished with it. but we will eventually. we'll be left with partly cloudy skies, mostly cloudy skies and our temperatures will be running very warm for this time of year as we get into the

second half of the day. on the back side there is a front that will bring us some rain as early as christmas eve. it looks like it will move through quite fast. take a look. as we get into the afternoon today we're mostly sunny. i think by the second half of the afternoon and into the evening hours, we do have the clouds piling you aing long the coastline -- along the coastline. we wake up christmas eve morning and we are partly to mostly cloudy with those mid and high level clouds in place and the rain already beginning to move into northern california. we may have a little bit of drizzle out there tomorrow morning. by noontime, it's beginning to creep into part, of the north bay. it fills in by 1:00, 2:00, it's crossing into the central bay. 2:00 it's into the south bay. as quickly as it moves in, it's moving out. by 5:00, 6:00, it's already passing through and on its way. we have snow in the sierra, picking up a foot of snow right about the ski resort level. under mostly sunny skies, a little bit of patchy fog.

43 in walnut creek. sfo doing quite well. haven't had a lot of fog in the air yaufl. good visibility comes no restrictions on those flights. the delays not so bad. 66 in berkeley this afternoon. 65 in san francisco. we'll go into the upper 60s for oakland as well as hayward and down into the south bay where we have temperatures in the mid- to upper 60s. 65 for mountain view. 68 for morgan hill as well as santa cruz. the extended forecast here, dry today, turning wet for tomorrow. dry again by christmas day and then we do remain dry as we get into your bay area weekend. today is going to be the warmest day behind this system. we have cool weather pulling in. upper 50s to low 60s. that looks to be the rule as we get into the second half of the weekend. >> we're not expecting a lot of wind with this system coming through. >> it looks like it could be breezy. >> okay. thanks for mentioning that. >> does it affect santa coming in? >> i think santa is in good

campbell. >> i'm brian flores. let's get your day started. rosemary is here for steve. it could be a nice day. >> it's hard to complain. >> doing pretty good. what about fog? >> a lot of people will be hitting the road. is it foggy along highway 5? >> the central definitely had fog. you will find it there. there is an advisory. we have our own bout the fog. it's not widespread. we'll squeeze in closer. san jose down to an eighth of a mile of visibility. that will be tough to get through. take it easy. keep those low rights on and you should be okay. we've got it over parts of san jose south into areas like morgan hill. the darker the shade, the thicker it is. you will find along 101, 280, 680, 880 reporting it at times. in oakland, seven miles visibility. napa also reporting down to a quarter mile. this is actually deteriorated.

at least the weather in that area because in the last hour, napa was doing pretty good. it comes and goes. it thickens and improves. we won't be finished with it just yet. it will take us another hour for areaias around -- areas around san jose. if you don't have the fog and you do have the clear skies, chances are you have a still in the air. 48 in santa rosa, 43 in napa. upper 40s to low 50s around the bay. as we get into the afternoon, we've got a beautiful forecast. take a look at some of these numbers. 65 in fairfield. 65 in vallejo. 68 in oakland. mid-60s san francisco. a lot of 60s along the peninsula. santa rosa, you will go to 67 for the afternoon with mostly sunny skies. today is actually going to be the warmest day. changes coming our way. they are wet changes. i will have a detail on the pattern transition coming up. good morning, sal. good morning. right now we're looking at a commute where traffic is doing very well. as a matter of fact, we've seen

some of these commutes get much better over the last few hours. it started off kind of slow this morning. now, 880 is still showing a backup passing the coliseum. but it only lasts as far as high street. and then it clears up to downtown oakland. at the bay bridge toll plaza, we don't have any delay to speak of. traffic is moving along very nicely. it's about a ten-minute drive across into san francisco. as we look at the south bay, we've had a couple of crashes but even then, those crashes have not caused any major backups just because traffic vol loom is olight. we also checked in with the san francisco and all of the bay area transit systems. they are running on regular schedules and not reporting any major delays. back to the desk. happening now, one of the busiest travel days of the year is officially underway. alex savidge has more on why airline passengers are hoping a storm elsewhere won't ruin

their holiday plans. >> reporter: things have been busy all morning long here at sfo, just two days before christmas. a lot of people trying to get away for the holiday. this is what things look like here at sfo outside of terminal 2. it's been busy at curbside with a lot of cars coming to drop people off. on this busy travel day, the good news, there are no travel delays or cancellations for flights into or out of sfo. weather not an issue. but all of that could change as we close in on christmas. there is a strong storm that will be moving into the eastern part of the country over the next couple of days. online, some have dubbed this weather system santa bomb. it won't bring snow but it will bring a lot of rain and strong wind and that could trigger delays at major airports. airport officials here at sfo are monitoring that storm. many people tell us they plan to get here early this morning worried about how busy it would be two days before christmas. >> very anxious. very anxious. i thought it would be a lot

more crowded in the airport. but it's pretty efficient moving along. >> go with the flow and kind of give yourself enough time to get to where you are going. >> reporter: there will be a lot of people hitth the airports this year. aaa predicts 98.6 million americans will travel for the holidays. that figure is up 4% from last year. so far, no delays to report here at sfo. just two days ahead of christmas. but of course, the situation can easily change. at sfo, alex savidge, ktvu channel 2 news. back to you. thank you. jim harbaugh is responding to reports he could be out of a job this time next week. fox sports is reporting the 9ers will likely cut ties with harbaugh within two days after the team's fine pal game of the season on sunday. that report came up several times during harbaugh's regularly scheduled news conference yesterday. at one point, a reporter asked harbaugh if he was ready to

speak publicly about his reportedly battles with the front office. >> it's a good question. a very good question. [laughter] >> go ahead, if you want to. [laughter] >> the high road is the only road i know. >> it's being reported that harbaugh is almost certain to break ties with the 9ers despite his largely successful four years as the team's head coach. he's reportedly considering offers from the university of michigan, the oakland raiders and the chicago bears. court documents are providing new information about a sexual assault accusation against ray mcdonald. the search warrant and affidavit say the victim and ray mcdonald ended up at his house after a night of drinking on december 14th in a san jose bar. now, the woman says she woke up naked the next morning and couldn't remember anything. she says mcdonald admitted to having sex with her and that's when she contacted police and gave them permission to use her cell phone. in a series of text message,

ray mcdonald report, i don't understand why you are bothered. you chose to stay with me for another day. i didn't do anything wrong. i felt like we had a good connection and like each other. the victim admits she went to the store to buy alcohol with him the next day and stayed with him. legal analysts say these cases can be hard to prosecute. >> she may have been impaired but the question is was she too impaired to legally consent. a former chp officer charged with stealing photos from the phones of women in custody is planning to take ta plea deal. attorney michael reigns says his client shawn harrington plans to plead guilty or no contest at his january 27th court date. he resigned in october. prosecutors say he took the photos from women's cell phone when the women were arrested for dui. it's a public service

announcement that's stirring up a lot of comments and controversy. it shows a teenaged's boy taking his parents' gun and turning it into his teacher. reaction on my facebook page, people are upset it's encouraging kids to take a gun to school. >> reporter: that's a common reaction that we're hearing. as i'm showing the video to people, they are pausing and soaking it up before they react. in that sense, it is thought provoking. but many are saying, the message is dangerous and off the mark. you can decide for yourself. ♪ >> reporter: that's the piano music. a teenage boy sneaks into a bedroom and takes a handgun from a dresser drawer, shoving it into his backpack and he takes it to school. the video has seens shot at the north oakland community charter

school. after students leave the classroom, the teen approaches his teacher. ♪ >> can you take this away? i don't feel safe with a gun in my house. ♪ >> reporter: it is jarring as that gun slams on the desk. the words our children deserve a safe world run on the screen followed by, stop gun violence now. some are concerned the video is sending the wrong message. >> we'll talk as a family about it. but not all kids have that and kids will believe what schools say. so they will go hunting for guns. >> this doesn't help the communities. it makes it worse. >> reporter: the psa's dislikes on youtube are climbing rapidly within the last hour, the number is now more than 14,000. there are several more likes but only around 100.

the director of the charter school told "the washington times" officials granted the company permission to shoot on campus but were not aware of the message beforehand. oakland unmy fid oversees the charter school. we have -- unify fid oversees the charter school -- unified overs the charter school and we have yet to receive a comment back. b.a.r.t. offering free trips on its new connector to the oakland airport for children during the holidays. we were talking about parking. the promotion launched on friday, it will run all the way through january 4th. children 12 and under have to print out the promotion online to get the free pass.

welcome back. it's being called one of the biggest airport security breaches in years. a delta airlines baggage handler has been arrested for reportedly running a gun smugging operation on passenger jets. the operation was uncovered on flights between atlanta and new york. police say earlier this month men brought 18 gun, seven of them loaded onto a flight to new york. reportedly the baggage handler used the security clearance to get the guns pasted the tsa checkpoints. more details are expected to be released this afternoon. new studies are

resurrecting old concerns. germ expert collected his own samples on a flight from san francisco to phoenix. he swaubd the plane eight bathroom door, faucet handle, toilet, sink and a tray table and the results show the sink was by far the dirtiest with almost 500,000 bacteria present. the second dirtiest, tray table. >> the tray table had -- we found influenza virus and norovirus on tray tables, they are not commonly disinfected and cleaned between every flight. >> he use sanitize services you come into contact with and wash your hand. 6.6 million cure ig mini plus brewing systems have been recalled because they are a burn hazard. water can overheat, spray out

and burn someone using the coffeemaker. the recall affects k-10 and identification number starting with 31. so far, there have been reports of 90 related burn injuries. consumers can contact keurig for a repair. stores are offering extended hours for shop. some people said they had to wait for one more paycheck to shop. one man had his priorities. >> i have sharks and warriors. it has to be done before jeopardy and before the games start. >> that's the way i shop. the national retail federation says 9% of holiday shoppers don't cross the last item off their list until christmas eve. it says twice as many men are

we have a good-looking day in store. we're waking up with patchy dense fog right around the south bay over parts of the north bay getting into the central valley. take it easy if you are driving out of town. a beautiful view here. wowza. we have a few slivers of fog. but most of us waking up with mostly cloudy skies. as we look to the east, you can see the east bay hills and mt. diablo. sfo, not reporting any delays at this time. that's some good news. you can see the west getting a little bit of a break but rain and snow beginning to move into seattle, washington. but as we get to the eastern half of the nation, this is where it is very active. we've been talking about it this morning for the upper midwest, it will slip into the ohio valley. and then look at this evening. very widespread even thunderstorms a possibility over parts of the southeast. when it comes to delays, houston, we have a problem. we have delays in new york and philadelphia as well. here at home, we have a ridge

filed a wrongful death lawsuit safeway. shirley jean bought thals in fellton around halloween. she died about a month later. the cdc says the outbreak has affected 29 people in ten states. her family members say health officials have confirmed she had the same strain of listeria as four our people whose deaths were also linked to prepackaged caramel apples. the cdc is still trying to figure out which brands are involved. in the meantime, it's urging anyone with caramel apples at home with throw them out. the window washer who fell from a high rise and survived is gradually improving. pedro perez's family and family call it a miracle. his wife and daughters are looking for another miracle as they face new financial. >> it's not easy for me to stand here and ask for help. i wouldn't be doing it if we didn't really need it.

macarthur maze. get to live pictures at the bay bridge, no trouble at all getting into san francisco. into san francisco, 101 looks good. if you are trying to get to the airport, 101 also looks good down to san bruno. back to the desk. >> thank you. a fire station in san jose has temporarily been shut down after conditions there became unsafe. firefighters have been dealing with mold. janine de la vega tells us about the problem and what's being done about it. >> reporter: there are no firefighters living inside fire station 16 on king road in east san jose. they say the mold growing inside was getting out of hand and they were concerned about their health. some wonder if the recent rain made the problem worst. last night, the firefighters moved out and went to two nearby firehouses. the fire department's command staff visited the station and determined all 4 hours firefighters on three shifts needed to leave because of the conditions. these photos show how crews were living out of the garage.

they moved their furniture from the living and kitchen in there because they say the mold problem got so bad. firefighters tell ktvu that's been mold problems for four years but say nothing has been done to permanently fix it. it's unclear why. >> it may have been an ongoing mold infestation. at this point, it's a health concern. and so we removed our firefighters from an unsafe facility until we can get a further investigation on how to mit gat the problem. >> reporter: even though firefighters have moved, they will be patrolling the area of the city during peak hours. there should not be a disruption to service. mayor-elect liccardo has spoken to the fire chief and said he's been told inspectors will be out today to evaluate the extent of infestation and the cleanup plan. that process could take weeks. back to you. san francisco's fire department is working to help low-income kids have a merrier christmas this year. fire crews will continue to hand out donated toys to families who signed up.

they will give out more than 200,000 toys this year. the program started back in 1949 with a few firefighters repairing broken toys and bikes for 15 families. that makes this the oldest program of its kind in the country. and in the south bay, sacred heart wraps up the toy give away today. the charity is completely out of gifts for teenagers and is still asking for help. suggested items include watches, curling irons, gift card and movies. this year, sacred heart will help 5500 preapproved families with food and gifts for the holiday season. the oakland raiders are still helping collect toys for kids in need. people lined autopsy up at southland -- lined up at southland mall. in just two hours, the players collected more than 500 toys that will be given to children in foster cares or hospitals tomorrow night. a new survey shows americans plan to give more to

charities with some cities being more generous than others. tara moriarty joins us from a toy drive in san francisco. tara? >> reporter: good morning. we'll next to fire station 9. this is where they have the an actual toy drive. it's put on by the local 798. joining me live is jill peeler. she's in charge of everything. this is the largest of its kind in the nation. >> we serve over 40,000 families and over 200,000 toys every year. >> reporter: one of the families is behind you. what is this little lady go in receive -- gonna receive. >> anna told me she wanted a bicycle. she have a bicycle to give her. >> reporter: how do you feel? >> really happy excited. >> reporter: have you always wanted a bike? >> yeah. >> reporter: gonna ride it around your neighborhood? you got a helmet, right? >> yeah. here it is right here. this is really a great program. >> it's a great thing that families come and receive toys

every day. >> you are welcome. >> reporter: gonna get to ride it right away? >> yeah. >> have a merry christmas. >> thank you. >> reporter: she matches the bike. she does. it's very cute. show us where the other toys are. i know you have a big facility here. we'll head in the back and there is a whole room full of toys. if we go in here, there are a bunch of toys in there. we have a lot of mr. po day hoeheads and you -- potatoheads and you have board games and dolls. >> this is where the volunteers and firefighters come in here. when the chiv arrive, we -- children arrive, we give them the halls. and we had the longshoremen hall, they gave us over 200 toys. >> reporter: i saw the trucks come in. how do you collect the toys. >> every san francisco fire station has a barrel. anybody can go to any san francisco fire station to

donate a toy. >> reporter: here are some of the barrels. >> absolutely. >> reporter: and then tomorrow on christmas eve, we have 1,000 people on our waiting list and we'll be in front of the hamley hotel in union square collecting toys as well as distributing toys and santa will be there. >> are some of the trucks over here, the ones that the longshoremen brought in. >> this is one of the trucks that came in. >> reporter: how do the families sign up? >> they go online. all of our applications are online right now. and there's even working families out there that are needing help right now. >> reporter: and so then, you said 40,000 families. that's quite a lot. >> 40,000 families. >> we're in need for toys. if anyone can donate a toy, we would love to have that. >> everybody comes to the -- >> i'm sally. i'm the chairperson. i wanted to give this to you. the firefighters found out that chafnle 2 was gonna be here,

good news, stow sfo is not seeing any problems with delays or cancellations because of weather. that all could change as we get closer to christmas. there's a big storm that's set to hit the eastern part of the country over the next couple of kay days -- couple of days. online some people have dubbed this santa bomb. it will bring a lot of rain and strong winds. that could trigger delays at major airports on the east coast. important to keep that in mind if you are flying out today. airport officials here tell us they are carefully monitoring the weather all across the country and they want to let people know there could be delays. people flying out of town for christmas, well , of course, they are showing up early this morning and concerned about the big crowds. so far, things haven't been all that bad. >> i was worried but when i got here, i was like pleasantly surprised. i'm happy these guys are incredibly efficient. they had somebody greeting you and making sure you got in the

right line. >> reporter: there will be a whole bun. of people hitting the airports. aaa predicts 98.6 million americans will be traveling for the holidays. that figure is up 4% from last year. you will have quite a bit of company as you fly out here as we look forward to christmas. so far, here at store we are not seeing delays. into weather-related issues here but it's the next couple of days you have to worry about when it comes to the weather especially as we look back east. >> have you heard from any of the other airports like oakland and san jose? are they having issues. >> reporter: they had a few issues with fog, down in san jose. usually we don't see that. usually that's here. they had some delays. but no major issues in terms of the weather so far. the storm is set to impact the eastern part of the country mainly tomorrow. >> all right. definitely good news for travelers out there this morning. alex savidge reporting live from sfo. thanks a lot. >> reporter: see you, brian.

now to our continuing coverage of the deadly shooting of two new york city police officers. we are now hearing from the widow of one of the officers. protesters are refusing to honor a request from new york's mayor to stop anti-police demonstrations until after the funerals. officer wenjian liu and rafael ramos were just sitting in their patrol car saturday afternoon when they were shot and killed by ismaaiyl brinsley. brinsley later took his own life. a funeral for officer ramos is planned for saturday morning. officer lui's family is on their way from china and will make final arrangements when they arrive. yesterday, his widow addressed the public. >> this is a difficult time for both of our families. >> new york mayor deblats yoasked protesters -- deblass joe -- deblasio asked for the demonstrations to stop until after the funerals. i think now is a time to

check in with sal to get a look at our traffic. it doesn't look too bad. >> doesn't look bad at all. we've had a little bit of slow traffic to begin the commute much earlier. it seemed to have gone away. whoever was going was going early even here on 880 where we had a slowdown. beginning to get better as you drive past the coliseum. you will see the traffic is going to be slow and the alternate route would be to use 580 in case you don't want to deal with any slow traffic. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza, we had a delay earlier but now it's gone. it's very nice trying to get into san francisco. if you are driving in san jose, northbound 101 and northbound 280 both of those commutes just look nice. even highway 17 looks good. we're getting a little bit of that holiday good traffic getting it in before christmas which is on thursday. let's go to rosemary in the studio. it's a beautiful day out there. we had patchy dense fog to start the day. we're beginning to see improvements over san jose and parts of the north bay.

from san rafael to the north towards napa, a glorious start to the day for you as well. we have beautiful sunshine in the forecast for the afternoon. temperatures will be well above what we typically get for this time of year. change is coming as early as tomorrow. ridge of high pressure locked in plate. there a still shot of the satellite. storm track to the north of us. but eventually it will sink. by tomorrow, we'll have rain. the patchy dense fog lingering for the next half-hour to 45 minutes. we'll be left with mostly sunny skies for today. mild and dry conditions in the forecast. received a tweet from daly city, mostly sunny, mild. the crowds will increase later tonight and into weard and wednesday and the storm is speeding up a little bit. here we are this morning and into the afternoon. we do have clouds approach the coast as we get into the second half of the day and early evening but it takes overnight

into tomorrow morning before the clouds begin to fill in. we're now that wednesday morning. there's the line of rain. it fills in by 1:00. by 2:00, moving into the central bay along the peninsula. by:00, it's moving -- by 3:00, it's moving over the south bay. as quickly as it moves in, it move out. by wednesday night we're clearing out. we have a about a foot of snow expected for the higher elevations. temperatures, 45 in fairfield, 46 in santa rosa. upper 40s to low 50s along the peninsula. so you may need a jacket getting out early. but by the afternoon, you will be shedding the jacket. look at the highs. 68 in oakland. 67 this livermore. 67 santa rosa. mid- to upper 60s for the south bay. the extended forecast here. we're nice and dry today. we're wet tomorrow. bethind this system we remain cool. upper 50s low 60s. what you can plan on as we get into the second half the week and into your bay area weekend. >> it looks nice and sunny.
