information to help solve the november murder of an east bay man. ktvu's sal castanedo is live at east bay regional park headquarters with more about an increased reward for anyone who can help. sal? >> reporter: it was a life cut short. 60-year-old david was killed while hiking in the east bay regional hills. now police hope a reward will help break the case. on the afternoon of november 25th, david runzel was on a trail in the huckleberry regional preserve near skyline boulevard. police say he was shot three times. last month authorities released sketches of two persons of interest and today announced a $25,000 reward for information leading to an arrest and provided new details of the crime. >> david's wallet was taken during this homicide and his credit cards were used on the 28th of november in downtown oakland. i can also share with you that we do have some tips and leads

that we are following up on. >> reporter: he was a teacher at a school in danville and was also a writer. friends say his greatest joy was his family. recently a new grandchild arrived and was enjoying doting on 8-month-old solomon. >> he said i've completely fallen in love with him. david was completely in love with his wife, his kids, he was active in his church. tutoring people who could never otherwise have afforded a tutor in arresting or writing. >> reporter: police say anytin could lead to an arrest. friends say the family isn't seeking revenge but would like to prevent this from somebody help. >> somebody knows something. there are people walking around and there are people probably watching this who know exactly who they are. >> reporter: police say crime in the east bay reyinal parks is very rare. in the last ten years, there have been 53 times -- 153

times. mostly petty crimes. sal castanedo, ktvu channel 2 news. >> what a difficult time this must be for the family. let's hope someone comes forward. atherton police are searching for a man who followed a 13-year-old girl and took pictures of her. it happened yesterday morning while the girl was jogging near park lane and camino. police say a man in a dark gray prius followed her for several blocks and took pictures of her. she's described as caucasian, unshave within a medium build e was wearing a red and blew beanie and dark sunglasses. a muslim man is accusing santa clara police of excessive action against him and his family during a raid at his house. this is police serving a search warrant of the home of mohammed who works for the department of

homeland security. there were roughly 20 officers, including members of the s.w.a.t. team searching the home for stolen dash camera. the dash camera had been in a car that his uncle was releasing which was involved in an accident and towed to muhammed's house. but muhammed's attorney says excessive action was taken during the home search. >> what needs to happen is an actual investigation. why is this kind of reaction allowed. why do the people of santa clara want to pay for this kind of reaction in this case. why does anyone feel that it's justified to come to your house at 1:00, 1:15 in the morning over over a missing camera. >> the santa clara police department spokesman says this has nothing do with the man

being muslim. they claim when he was uncooperative and because he's a federal law enforcement officer, he's held to a higher standard a it raised concern he was a suspect. san jose firefighters are investigating three early- morning car fires. two were reported shortly after midnight in the area of south bascom and southwest expressway. and then about 90 minutes later, a third was reported on yerba buena avenue. arson investigators are calling these fires suspicious and they are trying to determine if any of them are connected. these fires come a day after a man accused of setting more than a dozen fires in san jose entered a guilty plea to multiple counts of arson. police say 49-year-old patrick william brennan admitted to setting 13 fires between january 8 act and january 12th of this year in downtown san jose. the fires destroyed several homes and a warehouse. he has two previous felony convictions for arson and another for asutt. he's greed to serve 40 years to

life in prison and is scheduled to be sentenced in february. a san jose fire station is now temporarily closed because of unsafe mold conditions. ktvu's janine de la vega tells us about the problem and what's being done about it. >> reporter: there are no firefighters living inside fire station 16 here on king wood in east san jose. they say the mold growing inside was getth out of hand. they were concerned about their health. some wogedder if the recent -- wonder if the recent rain made the problem worst. last night, the firefighters moved and went to two fire stations. the. all 24 firefighters on each shift needed to leave because of the conditions. these photos show how crews were living out of the garage. they had moved their furniture from the living room and kitchen in there because they say the mold problem got so bad. firefighters tell ktvu there's been mold problems here for four years but say nothing has been done to permanently fix it. it's unclear why.

>> may have been an ongoing mold infestation. at this point, it's a health concern and so we removed our firefighters from an unsafe facility until we can get a further investigation on how to mitigate the problem. >> reporter: even show firefighters from station 15 have moved, they will be patrolling the area of the city during peak hours. there should not be a service to -- disruption to service. sam liccardo was told inspectors will be out today to evaluate the extent of the infestation and the cleanup plan. that process could take weeks. pg&e has released more emails that provide -- the disclosure is the result of a federal investigation into the san bruno pipeline explosion. but san bruno's mayor is not happy about the timing of the release. he calls it "another thin

attempt by pg&e to disclose proof of bad behavior at the puc at a time when the public and news media are heading into the holiday season." the. controversial dark comedy about north korea will be shown in a limited number of theaters on christmas day. sony pictures confirmed the limited release of "the interview" today. the ceo says they are trying to secure more theaters. they also show the movie available on. sony shelf -- shelved the movie after threats were made. today's developments come as north korea reports a second internet outage. as joel waldman reports, many want to know if the u.s. government is involved in the outage. >> we will respond. we will respond proportionately

and we'll respond in a place, time and manner we choose. >> reporter: four days after the president comments on the attack on sony pictures, two of the nation's most important websites, the korean central news agency and a newspaper were completely inaccessible. the state department remaining ambiguous about whether the u.s. was responsible. >> we're not gonna discuss about possible response options or comment on those reports in any way except to say as we implement our rue spoenses, some -- responses, some will be seen. some won't be. >> reporter: pea young jang is firmly involve -- pyongyang is firmly denying any involvement.

some internet experts say they would not be surprised to find out it was the united states fighting back. >> it would be a collapse, temporary collapse. >> reporter: north korea's internet is reportedly back up and running but some experts say the web could have gone dark because of something as behind as a software glitch. joel waldman, fox news. today protesters continued their rage as two police officers warn their deaths. flags are flying at half staff in new york for rafael ramos and wenjian liu. bill deblasio and his wife stopped by the memorial in brooklyn. the gunman took his own life. rafael ramos will be laid to arrest on saturday. officer lui's family will make funeral plans when they arrive from china.

his wife shared her grief with the public. >> this is a difficult time for our families. we will stand together and get through this together. >> nayor deblasio is asking protesters to put aside their anti-police demonstrations on hold saying the focus should be on the families of the slain officers. in houston, police are on alert after someone posted a message on social media saying, two down, 49,000 to go. in oakland, several police patrol cars were on eastbound 580 near the freeway sign which memorializes the department's four fallen officers killed back in 2009. the officers were out to help as they work to replace the sign vandalized. the airport is bustling as people get ready to head out of town for the holiday. we'll show you the conditions

federal health officials are now recommending an end to the nation's lifetime ban on blood donations from gay and bisexual men. however, the recommendation of ending the blanket ban also comes with a new policy barring donations from men who have had section with other men in the previous year -- had sex with other men in the previous year. that would put other countries in line. the lifetime ban dates back to the a.i.d.s. crisis when it was intended to protect the blood supply. we're learning about the first flu-related death in california this flu season. health officials say the victim is an elderly woman. she lived in los angeles county and had an underlying medical condition. health officials say the flu is spreading and it's not too late to get a flu shot.

though the vaccine is not as effective against some strains of the flu going around this year, medical experts say it's still worth getting one. they expect the flu season to peak in january and federal budget. oakland police are searching for three men who robbed a wedding party at gunpoint over the weekend. it happened saturday afternoon during a photo shoot at oakland high school. the newlyweds went there to take photos at the place where they first met. police say the group had just finished taking those pictures when the men approached demanding the camera equipment. that stolen equipment is worth more than $13,000. the wedding photos are priceless. police are offering a $25,000 reward in that case. the fbi says a delta airlines baggage handler and three other people have been arrested in one of the biggest airport security breaches in years. according to investigators, the group was running a gun smuggling operation on passenger jets using carry-on luggage to transport the

weapons. agents say the baggage handler used the security clearance to sneak 18 guns on a flight from atlanta to new york. more details are expected to be released at a news conference later this afternoon. airports are really getting busy. the holiday rush is underway as people head out of town for christmas. ktvu's alex savidge has more. >> reporter: the curbside dropoff area was crowded this morning at sfo. and inside, there were long lines to check in and pass through security. a slow process at times but not nearly as bad as some expected. >> very anxious. i thought it would be a lot more crowded in the airport but it's pretty efficient moving along. >> just go with the flow and just kind of give us -- give yourself enough time to get to where you are going. >> reporter: this is one of the busiest travel days of the year

emergency for four california counties. counties include marin, san mateo, mendocino up north and ventura county. these four counties were hit especially hard by the storm several weeks ago. the governor's declaration speeds up the process to fix the damage cause by floods and landslides. a massive recall from a popular coffeemaker. what you need to know if you have the keurig single coffee machine or if you purchased it as a gift for someone.

a surge in u.s. comoik growth is helping to lift -- economic growth is helping to lift stocks. the dow is up -- it looks like it's up about 77 points right now. starbucks and san francisco- based square are ending their partnership in mobile payments. wallet app stopped working at starbucks. now the coffee chain says it will not accept payment from the new app. starbucks and square teamed up in 2012 to provide consumers with the option of using that wallet app. a popular coffeemaker has issued a recall. cure ig is recalling 6-point -- keurig is recalling 6.6 million users. the company says water can overheat during brewing and spray out burning users. the recall effects the model number k-10 and identification

numbers starts with 31. so far there are reports of 90 related burn js. san francisco firefighters say it's the largest toy drive in the nation. this morning they doled out toys next to the bay district. they've been handing out toys to 200 families a day. that's since thanksgiving. one little boy was given his first bicycle. others got board games, books and dolls. >> it's a lot. you know, if you count everybody in the family plus our own child. it's nice that someone else is looking out for us, too. >> right now we have a thousand people on the waiting list. we're asking if anyone can donate a toy for any san francisco fire station. >> we've been doing this for a long time. this is our 65th year. it just makes you feel good knowing that you make a difference in a child's life. >> tomorrow, firefighters will be at the hotel near union square handing out more
