there are also extra patrols at san francisco's union square in the wake of a spike in street robberies. between monday morning and today. there were 11 robberies in the city. some of them by armed robbers. there's also a new public service announcement from police today, it reminds shoppers not to leave gifts and personal items in plain sight in plain cars. now to new developments involving the sony film the interview. it turns out the controversial movie is going to have a limited christmas release after all. sony pulled the movie after it created controversy. maureen naylor is live with one of the theaters planning to air the movie. >> reporter: twenty-second and san carlos is one of the few theaters that will be airing the interview today. and the owners tell us it was

an easy decision, all meant to defend the freedom of speech. after sony initially cancelled the films release. >> our first showing will be at 3:10 then at 3:20. >> reporter: they're joining other independent theaters that launched a controversy. >> we're just really glad to be part of a movement that supports the right to free speech and supports sony and the production and distribution of this film. >> you want us to kill the leader of north korea. >> the controversial movie starring seth rogan was initially pulled after a hacking scandal at sony and threats of violence against theaters showing the film. but tuesday, sony announced a new plan saying it never gave up on releasing the movie about two journalists told to assassinate the head of north korea. >> the decision to now release

orderer them removed from the site. a raid at the man who works for the tsa is calling for an investigation. surveillance camera shows santa clara police using a battery ram to serving a search warrant at his home. the raid happened back in march but charges against moneeb were filed just last week. the camera was never found. moneeb says that the raid came because he is muslim. >> i know that this overly excessive policing without a legal basis is totally wrong. >> this is not a muslim issue, a racist issue, this is a case of theft where a federal law enforcement officer committed that theft. >> the council on islamic

relations is now calling for an investigation. and tonight the lights at rockefeller center dimming in honor of two fallen police officers. the lights came down for two minutes. people across new york observed a moment of silence for the two officers. the family of garner were among those visiting the site where liu and ramos were gunned down. garner died after a police officer used a choke hold that caused the death of garner. >> my dad wasn't a violent man. so to use his name to do something that's violent is definitely not something that he would want. he's a very peaceful man. he will take the shirt off his back and give it to you. >> reporter: despite the

he is coming out. >> a man is seen on this video just moments before police officers opened fire killing him. that man was a barber living in antioch. his family is now suing the city of antioch for excessive force. she says the suit is about setting the record straight and his attorney says that police

video shows the story. amber lee is here now with all developments and both sides of the story. >> reporter: that video calls into question the police account of what happened. they acknowledged that danny gonzalez had been drinking and was emotionally disstressed but they contend his death was preventable. >> eagle seven be advised the garage is opening. >> reporter: on june 28, 201235- year-old denny gonzalez opens his garage door and walks out with a gun in his hand. police officers are waiting outside. gonzalez is seen waving his arms and returned back to the garage and then is shot by officers. >> i'm very, very hurt. i believe that day could have went a completely different rout. and he would still be here with us today. >> reporter: since her husband's death, gonzalez has given birth to their only child sacari. they now live out of state. she has filed a civil lawsuit against the city of antioch. her attorneys say the video shows that gonzalez did not fire his gun at officers.

and that police used excessive force when they shot at him dozens of types including two shots to his back. >> shots fired, eagle seven shots fired. >> they gave this guy the death penalty in an unjustifiable way. the thing was mishandled. >> reporter: the video shows that police acted appropriately and in self-defense, says investigators. >> he turns and points the gun like that, at the police as he's turning. >> reporter: the deputy d.a. says gonzalez was a deadly threat to police as soon as he walked out of the garage with a gun in his hand. he says officers showed restraint. >> they waited until he pointed

the gun at them. >> reporter: she says policies surrounding police use of deadly force need to change. >> my husband is innocent in this case. he did not fire his weapon. >> i went to the home where gonzalez lived this afternoon. a neighbor told me he heard police tell gonzalez to drop his gun and that officers only shot at him after he refused. >> so what happens now with this new lawsuit? >> reporter: well the city attorney's office says they actually the d.a.'s investigation cleared the police. the civil lawsuit is being handled by the antioch city attorney. they provided a statement that said quote, police officers shot and armed subject who appeared determined to trigger a violent confrontation. >> all right, tough situation. amber, thanks very much. the reward in the case of a teacher killed last month while hiking in the east bay hill rose today to $25,000.

david renzel was shot to death november 25th as he walked on a trail in the huckelberry regional preserve in oakland. police say he was shot three times. authorities released sketching of two persons of interest and today released new details of the crime. >> david's wallet was taken during this homicide and his credit cards were used on the 28th of november in downtown oakland. i can also share with you that we do have some tips and leads that we are following up on. >> reporter: family and friends say they feel certain someone some where knows who the attackers are and they hope the increased reward will prompt them to come forward. >> reporter: san jose police are looking for a man who tried to pull a woman into his vehicle and then jumped out to attack her. this is a police sketch of that man, investigators describe him as latino in his early 20s with a tall thin build and mustache. the incident happened yesterday

near south 33rd and east san fernando. san jose firefighters are raising questions about response times after a fire station in east san jose was closed so it could be tested for mold. as azenith smith reports, this isn't the first time station 16 has come under scrutiny. >> reporter: inside san jose fire station 16 red tape can be seen in the kitchen area, it says do not enter. a danger because of mold. >> it's a constant fire the fire department has with mold in these older fire stations. >> reporter: a spokesperson says so far there's been no confirmation of mold in the station but the fire department moved firefighters as a precaution. earlier we saw some of those firefighters pick up their belongings. this isn't the first time concern other mold were brought up. >> about two years ago there were plumbing problems in the kitchen. they thought they had mold. >> reporter: he says lab tests showed more mold outside the building than inside and because it wasn't airborne it

didn't pose a risk back then. repipeing was recommended but did not happen. >> basically what ends up happening is some level of band aid solution, address the minimum and let's move on to the next thing. >> reporter: the san francisco fire's union says they heard complaints six months ago. not only is the union worried about their firefighters health safety but shortages. >> this just makes things some what worse. >> reporter: the fire department says the station's where firefighters have been relocated are roughly 3 miles away and they'll be monitoring response times. they are also hoping to bring firefighters back to the station in temporary housing while the remodel is being done. details are still being worked out. some people wonder if more money will be spent now that these issues have risen to this level. the same company that reviewed this station's plumbing issues two years ago will be back here

area. you're looking now at live pictures, hospital curve in san francisco on the left. really crowded getting to the bay bridge. and on interstate 80 over in berkeley on the right hand side of your screen. actually looking much better. traffic flowing there at this late hour of the night. we're hearing tales of incredibly snarled traffic tonight. three hours or more getting out of san francisco on the the bay bridge and to oakland. many places much of the same story is drivers make their holiday get aways and head out for their last minute shopping. ken pritchett now live in livermore with how drivers are dealing with these crowded roads, ken. >> reporter: right now we're at a dui checkpoint in livermore which is now just getting under way. it's something you will see more of as officers go into high enforcement period. people attending events, such as holiday traffic and even shopping. even late into the evening, bay bridge traffic was at a crawl.

it is a holiday tradition drawing crowds in san francisco's north beach neighborhood. jana katsuyama is there now with the connection the event has to the city's past and future plans that transform the site, jana. >> reporter: you certainly don't expect to see live animals in the middle of the city. but this all happened at st. francis of asisis church. the organizer says this was all part of a larger effort to build community and new traditions in this part of san francisco.. the goat, the sheep and even the lama came to the middle of the city. each playing a part in the living nativity. a reenactment of the christmas story with baby jesus, joseph
