mostly clear skies. dry today, tomorrow, and for your bay area weekend. we are looking at not a lot of change. again we are going to get rid of the wind. let's take a look at these winds. livermore gusting to 20 miles an hour. it's actually picked up a little bit at sfo. 21 right now. hayward, mountain view, san jose generally light. but half-moon bay you have a gust to 18 miles an hour. and that northerly breeze we've been talking a little bit about it. chp has year id a -- chp has issued a warning. because when the wind is coming from the north, it's hitting up against your car. take it easy out there. you may be holding tight to the wheel as we get outdoors we again are looking at some very chilly numbers. 44 in concord right now. a bit of an improvement there in the last hour in the 30s. something tells me you may have a light breeze that has picked up in your area. walnut creek remains calm. liver mother the wind has been blowing all morning long and you are holding at 50 degrees. so again the wind really makes

antipolice protestors are planning to demonstrate at san francisco's union square later today at noon. this was the scene though on christmas night as protestors vandalize a giant christmas tree. as you can see, they tore off lights and destroyed dozens of ornaments. they call their protest the no time off march. their goal is to keep police busy so they have no time off. the protestors also broke windows. for many people the day after christmas is another day to rush back to the shopping mall. >> i found one lady with a shopping bag in her hand.

she was clearly going to make a return. a lot of these folks came with nothing but their wallets. here and at stores across the bay area the crowds are expected to be okay. the return rate is typically higher for online purchases. retailers differ on their return policies. that is because the retail industry will lose an estimated 3.8 billion for fraudulent returns. now some stores limit the amount of time that consumers can wait before returning gifts. so don't wait months to make those returns. and while you are returning, stores hope you will buy more. some tips are to bring your receipt. make sure you have that or might be forced to take the

experienced disruptions. katie utehs is live in san francisco with the latest on this cyber attack. katy. >> reporter: the latest check of the x-box live website says engineers are still work on the issues. if you got one of those for christmas, you have not been able to use it. if you try to follow this issue on twitter, you can see the amount of frustrated people. people with tweeting nonstop about x-box and play station. christmas as you said is a day where gamers are using new symptoms and playing new games. people who tried to log on to play station network could not. a group known as the lizard squad claimed responsibility for the alleged hack. would confirm the problems were indeed hack related. the last tweets from play station, x-box acknowledging the issues were six hours ago now. there is still problems with both symptoms. gamers are frustrated.

hours. many are hoping to make up for a loss in business over the past few seasons. >> this is getting closer to normal but certainly more than we've had in the last couple of seasons. >> there is no snow in the forecast for this weekend. the next storm is expected to roll into the sierra next tuesday. we have an update to a house fire in san francisco we first reported yesterday morning. inspectors have red tagged two homes in the pa terror row hill neighborhood. a victorian home on mississippi street is a total loss. while the house next door is heavily damaged. but no one was injured as most of the people living in the homes were gone for the holiday. firefighters and neighbors helped to save top cats and a dog in one of the homes. >> seems like a great neighborhood. the neighbors help the neighbors. a couple people took the cats. a couple people immediately notified the residents who were out of town that their home was on fire. >> investigators think the fire may have started between the two homes. they are now looking at electrical problems as a possible cause of the fire.

one person suffered minor yours when an apartment building caught fire. it took crews about an hour to bring the fire under control at a building on the end of palm grove court. investigators believe a fire was accidental and that it may have been caused by candles. a family of four living in the apartment was forced to sleep somewhere else last night. and on mayor island in fact tours suspect a homeless person may have sparked a two alarm fire at a commercial building. shows flames engulfing the building. we

ramos will be held at a church in queens. he will then be buried tomorrow. joe biden will mange those attending the funeral. ramos and liu were shot in their patrol car last sunday funeral arrangements for liu are pending. livermore police arrested a man and woman on christmas eve with a car full of packages stole off of pieces porches. they were arrested after reports of people stealing packages off of porches. officers were able to identify them from video surveillance. when police searched their car, they found it was full of stolen mail and packages from orinda, lafayette, and livermore. a gran it bay couples gift to each other will be featured on a network television show today. >> and as brian hickey reports their over the top tree house started as a childhood dream

[ laughter ] all right we are getting outdoors maybe you are heading out of your house. not your tree house but real house and grabbing a cup of coffee and going far run. maybe doing post holiday shopping it's a chilly start out there. and some of us are in the 30s. and if you are not in the 30s chances are you've got wind out there and it's very brisk. mostly clear skies. we do have the wind that continues to blow. started yesterday. was awfully breezy in some areas and that made for a chilly, chilly afternoon. mostly sunny and cool. we will be dry for your entire weekend. ridge of high pressure continuing to move into the area. that has pushed that storm track to the north of us but

that dry northerly flow is just pouring into the bay area and a cool one. temperatures in the 40s. a few low 50s out there. but with the wind it doesn't feel like 50-degrees in livermore. it doesn't feel like 53-degrees in san francisco. redwood city checking in at 51. again with that breeze it probably feels closer to 40 degrows. 234 any case not a lot of 30s. santa roe sat winds a little stronger. your temperatures have fallen. 39 degrees right now. right in this area of walnut creek and concord. concord has a breeze about 8-10 miles an hour. because of it your numbers have come up. 44 in concord. temperatures will continue to warm as we get into the afternoon. temperatures will be in the 50s as we get into areas right around vallejo 58. 56 for berkeley today. 59 in san rafael. mid 50s in concord. these numbers are a lot like

yesterday under mostly sunny skies and the winds are expected to finally begin to die down as we get into the second half of your day. 59 san jose. upper 50s for morgan hill. and santa cruz you are checking in at 58. if you are thinking about hitting tahoe for the weekend, you have a nice one. it will be quite cold. we have temperatures ranging from the teens down to seven degrees. partly cloudy to mostly sunny skies. temperatures today in the low 30s. so breezing and sub freezing. a little better. but you will have that sunshine and it is a great time to hit the slopes. most ski resorts reported 3-6 inches. the extended forecast here with your bay area weekend always in view. numbers won't change a whole lot. once the wind die downs, patchy frost will be a concern.

think about your pets and plants. and tuesday right now looks to be the first day we may see a little bit of rain move in. and it looks like a cold storm coming from alaska and canada and that means we may have low snow. >> thank you. the markets have been open for just a few minutes now on this day after the christmas holiday. and in early trading stocks are up it looks like. the dow started this session in record high territory. dow up about 67 points right now. the s & p was slightly down from its all time high. over all volume is expected to be light. although we mentioned earlier sony stock is supposed to be doing well. i checked it and it's about up maybe one percentage point.

welcome back. time is 6:56. and a man is safe and back on solid ground after this traumatic rescue in the waters off the monterey coast. the man's boat started taking on water about 75 miles off the coast yesterday morning. a coast guard helicopter and cutter responded after the man called for help. he was later flown to a hospital for treatment and is expected to be okay. president obama and the first lady spent part of their christmas with u.s. marines in hawaii. they visited the marines and their family at the base in honolulu. they thanked them for their service. happening today san francisco is holding the annual chipping of the trees event to let people know when and how they can recycle their christmas trees. the event outside city hall includes this giant woodchipper so people can see how their trees will be turned into
