and traffic. steve paulson is right there. how do you want everyone to dress? >> dress in layers. >> dress in layers. okay. >> i was in layers already this morning. you didn't need to tell me. >> the breeze is picking up for most. not for all. be it hasn't yet -- if it hasn't yet, it will. some isolated snow showers up in the sierra nevada. maybe even into las vegas by tomorrow and southern california. for us it will be clear. the cold air is on its way. 30s for many. some of these high temps will be set for noon. out of the north it will be the direction 18 gusts to 23 at fairfield. i've seen northeast about 30 up in the oakland hills already. sfo north at 12. this may not be a bad pattern for coasts. sunny but cold. the wind cranks up. it will be a blustery day.

you can see how everything is going right down to the south. it will be sunny but yenned i a and cool to cold. 50s on the temps. there will be some areas. here is brian with an update on your traffic. so far so good brian. >> yeah so far so good. good morning, everybody. things are looking really good. let's take a look. san mateo bridge this morning slow and go traffic as you approach foster city. no major problems. pretty typical traffic on a tuesday. there is a high wind advisory on certain parts of the bay area. there was no advisory lifted here just be aware of that. there is one here on the bay bridge as we take a look at the toll plaza. metering lights came on about 11 minutes ago. but about 10-15 minutes to get you across the span. finally taking a look at highway 4 this morning.

pittsburgh bay point area traffic looking really good through here. same thing can be said on 80 as you approach richmond. 6:02 let's go back to the desk. berkeley police busy. they are investigating a deadly shooting that happened at 9:45 last night. alex savidge is joining us live now. you're in berkeley so what are police saying alex? >> reporter: dave, good morning to you. they are still gathering evidence trying to piece this all together. you can see behind me they have this entire parking lot blocked off with crime scene tape this morning. as we push in here, investigators are focused on the victims car which is just beyond that patrol car. we are near the intersection of san pablo and university avenues near $0.99 store. most of the everett and jones barbecue restaurant. berkeley police first got 911 calls about 9:45 last night. officers came out here and found two people that had been

shot. including one victim was nit hot face. one man died at the and and -- jumped into a car with several other people and sped off and still on the loose this morning. according to a report from the san francisco chronicle, this shooting may have been the result of a medical marijuana robbery. but investigators are still working to figure out exactly how the crime played out. >> they are here in a vehicle. it's obviously involved. part of the the process will be determining what if they were in the vehicle. who was in the vehicle. >> reporter: and police thus far have not identified the man that was killed out here last night. and they don't have a description of the shooter or getaway car. investigators are continuing to gather evidence. interview witnesses here and trying to make an arrest here.

>> alex savidge in berkeley, thank you. new developments as the search for the air asia plane that disappeared off the coast. several bodies and debris from the plane has been recovered. i want to show you video of the plane. the plane with the 262 people on board disappeared on sunday while flying from indonesia to singapore. yes, sir -- the >> we provide a safer trip tomorrow for the family and also the media. to the search area. >> family mens of those on board reacted emotionally when they were told what search crews found today. one man fainted and had to be taken out of the airport on a

stretcher. of the 162 people on board of that plane, most were indonesian. >> we will get more details later on. time is 6:06. police are investigating three separate attacks at the richmond bart station. katie utehs is live in richmond. you say one woman was beaten so bad she had to be hospitalized. >> reporter: she is now in stable condition. she did have an injury to her eye. very serious beatings. and people we are talking to say they are not surprised. there are so many people walking home from bart. now the robberies happened last night near the bart station. it happened around 8:00. three robberies all along nevi avenue. one woman was beaten so severely she had to be taken to

kaiser hospital for an injury to her eye. >> i'm used to it. i come here all the time so i have to be really careful. i look at my surroundings. when i park at the parking lot because i didn't park today, i try to go off with a group. you know other people. we always do that. >> reporter: police only have a vague description of the robber. he is described as 5'8"-5'10" and wearing all black. dave. >> all right katie utehs, thank you. our time is 6:07. one of the nation's top restaurants has been robbed. and the napa county sheriffs department is investigating the theft of rare and very expensive wines from the famous french laundry restaurant. chef thomas keller tweeted out the particular wines that were

stolen may will -- but that do inid french burgundy. the results of a long awaited autopsy report says police shot a young african american in the back three times. protestors marched yesterday after the autopsy record -- police say they were questioning ford about what they call suspicious actions when ford tried do grab a police officer's gun. >> he was not a gang member. he had no reason to be stopped by police. >> ford's parents say the

autopsy report says the shooting was more league an execution than a confrontation. the ford family filed a civil rights lawsuit. time is 6:09. happening today we almost find out just how much snow has fallen in the sierra. so far this winter. the department of water resources they will conduct their first snow survey of the season. a couple injure storms have rolled through the sierra last month and this month. several feet of snow has fallen. the electronic readings shows the snow pack is only 54% of average. the manual serving today that will give a more accurate reading. today we are expected to learn more about jim harbaugh's future in sports. >> a rare sight in las vegas. why people there could be greeted with more than just confetti and champagne during the new years eve celebration. >> and winds are blowing in

controversies, tragedies as well as remarkable stories of survival and celebrations. with the help of that we take a look back. >> there are images from 2014 that are hard to forget. from raging fires like the one that destroyed the san francisco construction project. to the police shooting protest that overtook our city's streets and freeways. there were the scandals in silicon valleys. all eyes on the woman described as a high end prostitute. we saw politicians become defendants. most notably leland yee. we watched the massive man hunt for this man. who feds say had bomb making materials in his apartment. mother nature took headlines with the 6.0 earthquake.

and the drought still has us all reeling. there was tragedy. thomas smith was mistakenly shot and killed by a fellow officer. >> it is very difficult express in words how much sorry you are feeling right now and how much pain. >> and there are stories we still don't understand including the ilavista rampage. there were stories of survival who can forget the 15-year-old stow away who made it all the way from san jose to maui in the rear wheel of the plane. sports gave us a lot to talk about. the niners began the year with that crushing nfc championship loss. and we bid farewell to the

stick, said hello to the 49ers stadium. and then the giants world series championship. things we said goodbye to also came back. the blue angels returned for fleet week and we found new ways to get to the same place via the oakland airport connector. this year we connected through social media more than ever. we dumped ice buckets on our heads and searched for treasure thanks to the no longer mysterious hidden cash tweeter. even hollywood made headlines as the movie the interview had president obama and north korea at odds. >> good morning, vietnam. >> reporter: and 2014 broke our heart with the loss of robin williams. he lived and died in tic rope. the loss of a man who spent his life making all of us laugh is too hard to put into words.

>> and that is too hard to come behind. robin williams. our time is 6:15. an estimated 200,000 people are expected to celebrate new years eve in san francisco and businesses in the city couldn't be happier. restaurants and hotels are busy getting ready for tomorrow's big night. at this restaurant in russian hill normally they close on mondays but yesterday they were open preparing for new years eve. many restaurants and hotels are completely booked. >> new years eve is just over the top. >> new years eve everybody comes in. everybody in san francisco always waits until the last minute. >> that's what they say. they stocked up on new years eve supplies right after halloween. 1200 items were ordered and they have helium tanks all set up to blow up 10,000 balloons. >> that is a lot of balloons. i will be spending new years

eve tucked away in my house. i think we covered so many things i tend to like it there. brian how are you? you working early on new years eve day? >> i'm actually not. ly be celebrating with my friends in the east coast having two young kids. >> yeah. the 9:00 celebration is always nice too. >> yeah it is always nice. the company is always nice as well. time is 6:17. we are keeping an eye on your bay area traffic. bigger picture things are looking great on this tuesday. i want to go to the maps though. this is an injury accident. this is westbound 80 at the carlson boulevard exit. chp saying the off ramp is effected. it's an suv that went off the embankment there. they are sending crews to the scene. it doesn't appear to be effecting traffic too soon. traffic is light up there. just be aware. looking at 880 this morning past okay land you can see the shaking going on.

steve has a touch upon the winds that is effecting the bay area. there is a wind advisory on the bay bridge. as we take a look at sunol grade, looking really good. also in both directions. traffic looking fantastic. hopefully it stays that way. steve. >> yes. >> windy for some, cold for others. i will buy that. las vegas possibility of snow there. southern california will get more out of this. you can see the low cloud deck. the fog we had yesterday that is not the case. humidity is still kind of high but it will be a breezy, windy day for some. not for all. the temperatures the older air is moving in and will filter in throughout the day. it will be a rather brisk day. and you combine that with a north wind which is about what everybody is showing. santa roe sam north at 13. that could be a warm direction

for them. but there is so much cold air coming in. fairfield 18 gusting to 23. calm in concord. martinez said calm here as well. it's out of the northwestson ho -- north to san jose. sunny but cold. the wind picks up. a blustery day. you can see how the cold air is forming. everything system carving itself out. once that wraps up, then we will start to see the wind crank up. fit wasn't for the breeze, then a lot will be cold. but i had a report from tim up near cash creek, already 39

pittsburgh is cold. same can be said for morgan hill and gilroy. menlo park is 35 degrees. that is pretty cold. yet 10 warmer foster city. any breeze will hold it up. that temperature may struggle to get out of the upper 40s. this is a pattern for -- a wind advisory kicks in ever 40s. a north wind can be warm for santa rosa, sonoma county airport but for others will -- upper 40s for some. once the wind dies down it will be very cold in the morning. it will probably be on the coast and a little warmer friday, saturday, into sunday. >> ready or not here it comes. >> it'scomeing. our time is 6:20.

in las vegas you heard steve it's not something you see every day but vegas may get snow. in december of 2008 a cold and powerful storm dropped almost four inches of snow at the vegas airport and on the vegas strip. now the national weather service says there is a chance snow may fall on the thousands of people in visage gas new years eve. they said that she will. glum there is a new recall to tell you about. it involves dodge trucks. which models are effected and the reason why. that is coming up.

financial help is pouring in for the window washer still recofferring from a fall from a high-rise in san francisco. pedro perez fell 11 stories and landed on a moving car last month. it's still not clear if he will ever be able to work again. a go fund me account was set up to help families with expenses. the goal was to raise $20,000. at last check donors have

donated $73,000. 40-year-old herman shum was vice president at st. maries college high school in berkeley. on saturday he was riding with a large group of cyclists on a rural road in contra costa county when he lost control of his bike and hit by a truck. the chp says it appears shum was swerving to avoid cyclists in front of him who had crashed. yesterday the students and staff they gathered at the school. they laid flowers at an alter in the middle of the schools courtyard. >> it hurts my heart to know he is not going to see my cross my stage. he is not going to see any of us cross that stage. because he has been with us every single day. >> tragic story. the school says there will be grief counselors on hand on monday when the students come back from winter break. the mass for mr. shum is being planned for later this week. this morning there is a recall of older dodge pickup trucks after a crash killed a

child. nearly 76,000 trucks with manual transmissions are being recalled. that is after investigators discovered a spring can break and allow the truck to go forward. they include dakotas and ram trucks. most are paying a lot less for fuel. but truckers and others that depend on diesel fuel are not saving as much. the price difference has widened to $0.87 a gallon this week that is more than double what it usually is. the search for answers continues in berkeley. what police say may have led to shots being fired and the search now under way for the gunman. >> cold temperatures are sweeping the bay area and we may see them dip even more in the next couple of days. we're live in san jose catching up with people who are out in

studio. it's monday morning, december 30th i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm claudine wong in for pam cook. it is almost 6:30. there it is. it just turned 6:30. we saw janine out there earlier. she had her long johns on and coffee. yes, i have done that. standing out in that cold. >> i used to work in south bend, indiana. >> south bend, indiana. >> he is from there so he can say that. >> yeah you can't say that. >> he was born there. we do have a clear pal tern. it is clear. now the breeze is picking up for some. not for all. some of the higher elevations, the coast is already cranking up 37. i've seen 48 miles an hour. 30s and 40s for many.

there will be isolated snow showers. the key is the low forming in southern california. as it does it will crank up the north wind. that equals a north breeze. the wind advisory takes us about 7:00 here. n't a half an hour from now. easily gusts 45-60. everything going straight down. so it will be clear. it will be sunny but it will billion windy and cool to cold. wind advisories out. ts higher elevations. i think temperatures upper 40s. low 50s for some. the coast may not be too bad today. here is brian with a look at a slow morning. >> so far so good, steve. looking really good for bay area traffic. good morning everybody. steve mentioned there is is a little bit of wind for some place. one of the places we are looking at is the bay bridge

toll plaza. see the metering lights are still on. the end of this the metering lights were turned off yesterday around 7:00 or so. we will see if they will stay on. take a look at that. no major problems. talking about the high winds. chp issued a wind advisory on the bay bridge. so be aware of that. take a look at highway 4. traffic starting to pick up here. no major problems reported. like no accidents or anything. just heavier traffic volume. but over all not too bad as you approach concord. as we take a look at the south bay. a little bit of slow traffic through the expressway. over all bigger picture. not too bad. things are looking great on the peninsula as well. here is claudine. as steve just mentioned the cold weather may come with strong winds today. the national weather service has issued a wind advisory. pg&e is ramping up its storm preparations in anticipation of

the windy weather. i am impressed with your preparations. >> reporter: yes, i definitely have my layers on. i forgot the gloves though. it's 41 degrees last time i checked my phone but it still feels like it got colder in the last half hour or so. this is a transportation hub. we are talking to people who are catching the train to work. we have seen a lot of people here in jackets and scarfs. we have been bouncing around to various locations in the south bay. at a coffee shop baricities were bundled upsetting up tables and chairs outside. last night in morgan hill it dropped down to the mid 30s. people have been seeking indoor

shelter. especially places with warm drinks and putting on warm layers of clothing. sporting good stores. gloves with built in hand warmers are some of the popular items when cold weather moves in. we set up with commuters about how they are taking the cooler temperatures. >> when i left the house, i think the temperature was 34 degrees. it's frigid as far as i'm concerned. it's very cold. i always try to dress warmly. that is my take. i can't stand being uncomfortable. ironically i'm from chicago. >> workers at nurseries say homeowners need to protect their sensitive plants such as ferns and citrus during the cold snaps by covering them. santa claire rap county is taking precautions to keep those who normally sleep outside safe. last night the reception center opened and staff there said they will remain open for 24 house for the homeless through sunday. that means they will take people at all hours instead of just a set time in the afternoon.

and speaking to people out here as they are catching their ride to work, a couple did mention the homeless and how they said you know at least they have a warm home to go to. and they were just feeling bad for them. back to you. >> yeah certainly it could always be much worse. thank you for that live wort. stay warm out there. there are major traffic problems in marin county where a washed out part of highway 1 has cut off easy access. the marin independent journal says people who live nearby are moving barricades out of the way. other drivers are using frank valley road. . on top of that frank valley road isn't in great shape. it was also damaged by mud slides. time is 6:35. new developments this morning about the search for that air asia plane that disappeared off the coast of indonesia. several bodies and debris from the plane has been recovered by search crews.

take a look at this video. the crews coming back from debris with that plane. the plane with 162 people on board disappeared sunday while flying from indonesia to singapore. this morning air asia offered family members a chance to fly over the search area tomorrow. air asia ceo reacted to the conformation of that plane crash this morning. >> the only slight benefit for the people in there -- this will stay with me for the rest of my life. >> reporter: as you can imagine family members for those people on board reacted very emotionally when they told what the search crews found today. one man fainted. he had to be taken out of the airport on a stretcher. of the 162 people on board that plane, most were indonesian. back here at home berkeley police are busy. they are investigating a shooting that left a man dead and a woman injured. alex savidge is joining us live now in berkeley with the

continuing search for the person responsible. >> reporter: berkeley police this morning are trying to track down the shooter who used -- it happened with the victims car. this is near san pablo and university avenues. berkeley police got the 911 calls about gunfire in this area about 9:45 last night. officers showed up here they found two people who had been shot including one victim who was hit in the face. police say the man who was shot died here at the scene. a woman was taken to the hospital. police say the -- that person remains on the loose this morning. according to the report from the san francisco chronicle, this shooting may have been the result of a medical marijuana robbery. >> we don't think this is a random event but we are trying

to determine how the shooting curred or where they may have been or if they were in vehicles or not. we don't believe it is random but we are trying to determine how it occurred. >> reporter: there is no identity at this point on the man that was killed here last night. they also police have not put out a description of the shooter or getaway car they are searching for. but again police are still gathering evidence here at the scene, still speer viewing witnesses. >> very interesting. alex savidge, thank you. meantime extra oakland police are patrolling grizzly peak after two shootings there in the last nine days. even though the victim cooperated, the thieves shot him in the leg. and then on december 19th, two people were parked in a car when that car was hit by

gunfire. we are now hearing from 49ers management. players cleaned out their lockers yesterday after getting that official news that they were losing one of the most successful coaches in 49er history. ceo jed york continues to say the parting was mutual but he also suggested that the harbaugh era was tainted by several off the field issues. since january of 2012, six players from the team have been arrested a total of ten times. which is a league high. six of those arrests came from aldon smith and ray mcdonald. >> i don't think we have conducted ourselves with the level of class that i expect from our organization. >> as for who is going to become the next head coach, defensive coordinator vick and defensive line coach jim have been mentioned as candidates. there are also reports the 49ers have asked for permission to interview defensive coordinators. jim harbaugh is expected to be

seats on its train cars. bart has been switching out the wool seats for vinyl ones over the past 2.5 years. the vinyl seats are easier to clean and a longer life expectancy. it costs about $6 million to change all of the seats in barts 669 rail car fleet. time is 6:41. a new clue in the hunt for a hit and run driver. coming up at 7:00 the surveillance video police in santa cruz hope will lead to an arrest. >> brutal attack on three people happened near the richmond bart station. the search under way right now for the person responsible. >> traffic looking really good on this tuesday. so far so good. we are taking a look at in the south bay. >> forecast is looking really good if you like one of sunshine and there is a little wind out there and cold temperatures.

battalion chiefer sell fleming who is charged with killing his girlfriend. during the investigation flemings estranged wife says she saw a video of the girlfriend having sex with fleming and other firefighters on a fire engine. investigators say that claim is unfounded but they say they uncovered some other unrelated policy violations that led to the suspensions. a full report is expected to come out in the next couple of weeks. the three people were robbed last night in separate incidents near the richmond bart station. katie utehs is joining us live now at the richmond police station and you say one of the victims was seriously hurt katie. >> reporter: yes. she is now in stable condition. all three of the robberies happened around 8:00 last night near the bart station in richmond. along nevin avenue.

once you get past that traffic is clear as you approach the bay bridge. this is a really good indicator of how traffic looks like in the morning. about 10-12 minutes to get you across the span. chp says there is a wind advisory on the bay bridge as well. so be aware of that. taking a look at the south bay traffic looking really good this morning. really from 82 to down to 280 but that traffic seems to have cleared up. things are looking good on the peninsula. there is a disabled vehicle on san mateo after the bridge. but that is keeping traffic a little slow and go this morning. over all not too bad. there is also reports from what

college football fans will focus on levi stadium in santa clara. the stanford cardinal will be playing the university of maryland in the foster farms bowl. this is the fifth day in a grow that stanford has been to a bowl game. it should be a good game. stanford is a two touchdown favorite to win. the game starts at 7:00 tonight. president obama called and apologized to a bride after finding out his golf game disrupted her wedding. here's a picture of the bridal party listening in. they were told the day before the ceremony that it couldn't happen at the 16th hole as they had wanted it to because the president was scheduled to golf at that particular course. so the ceremony was moved to a quote prettier area which overlooked the original spot. all couples that plan to get married at that golf course are told in advance that their
