the mountains is still low. >> officials who measure the snow pack this week say the water content is one third of normal. the next survey is next month. the publisher of the san francisco examiner is bringing out a new magazine about marijuana. new at 6:00 p.m. ktvu's john fowler with the story. >> reporter: san francisco publishers say it is a business decision. capitalizing on the culture around pot. >> starting brand new, i think i would go into this business. >> reporter: the new magazine called ever green could be a hit. good photographer, sharp writing, bay area news with pop stories and advertising. >> there is a possibility this could be a opportunity for advertisers that want to show

hospitalized in san francisco. two strangers got into an apartment last night. investigators say a transient approached a man and started a fight. he hit the man on the head with gardening sheers and a hammer. police say he had been ordered to stay away from the plaza before. the motive is unclear. >> it appears they have crossed with an intentional by the victim to talk to the person, the suspect went up to him and started talking and a fight ensued. >> he is facing several charges including two counts of assault with a deadly weapon. we know the name of a woman killed in a deadly crash on new year's day. kayla turner was a passenger in a car that crashed into a pole on 580 in oakland about 3:20 a.m. the driver is being held on

felony dui and manslaughter charges. investigators are working to determine who may have provided him with alcohol. that person could also face charges. oakland police identified the city's first homicide victim of the year. investigators say the 23-year- old, a father of two from sacramento was in town visiting family. he was shot and killed around 1:30 p.m. yesterday afternoon at a gas station. that is within sight of the police subitation. subitation. no arrests -- substation. no arrests have been made. new warning tonight about oysters and clams. officials closed down collection in the area. the move follows the closing of drake's bay oyster company.

oysters and clams could potentially pose a health threat. they are working with the county and the health department to find a permanent solution. the cost of a ballot initiative passed intown 8 are finally -- in 2008 are finally being felt. egg producers in and out of california now have to provide 70% more room with larger cages and they have to cut back on the number of hens or abandon the california market. san francisco egg distributor says californians are already feeling the pain at the store. >> this year was an unbelievable spike. we are up against a tough market. on the retail side of things, 80s% higher. >> feel goods to me.

>> last year a dozen eggs cost $1.65. today it is $3. the new year means higher utility bills for pg&e customers. rates are increasing by 6%. businesses could also see an increase. it will cover safety improvements like replacing old gas lines to prevent another disaster like the san bruno pipeline explosion. pg&e says it will pay for an expansion of the smart grid and hiring more customer service workers. 2500 kaiser mental health workers are expected to go on strike later this month. they have planned the strike to begin on january 12. more than 700 other kaiser workers are also planning to go on strike. they are protesting inadequate staffing problems. kaiser plans a meeting with the union next week.
