the sunday, monday time frame, temperatures will climb and it looks like wednesday, may be the warmest day as the ridge of high pressure continues to build over the bay area. so what we have outside our door this morning, again, you will need to bundle up if you are going out, below freezing in areas like fairfield and napa and santa rosa. 36 in san rafael and temperatures in the low 30s for the east bay and 43 san francisco and redwood city you are checking in at 37. san jose, 33. as we get out the door this morning, a cold one but by the afternoon not so bad, take a look at this. 54 for nevada and 54 for berkeley and san francisco low 50s and mid-50s for oakland and it will shift in the south bay and take a look. 55 for free month and 56 san jose and mostly sunny skies and perhaps planning a last minute get away and santa cruz not a bad spot and lake tahoe not a

allowed on that bridge and coming up tomorrow morning at 8:15, we will talk to the bridge district live about the shut down and the importance of this for years to come. there is a new development about the investigation into the air asia flight that crashed into the java sea. the indonesia government says that plane was not allowed to fly. it took off on the 28th. air asia is not permitted to fly there on sunday. that license to fly that route is temporarily suspended and could be permanently revoked. divers are still not able to locate the bodies. >> i would like to tell the loved once that we are doing our best and and apologize if it is taking longer than hoped. 30 bodies have been recovered and 132 others remain missing. a ship's radar has detected two large objects on the ocean's

floor which researchers believe it came from the plane. >> and a 7 year-old girl a lone survivor of a plane crash. a small prop plane went down in eastern kentucky. four people were killed. a couple, their 9-year-old daughter and the girl's teenage cousin. the 7-year-old survived and walked through the woods and knocked on someone's door. she was covered in blood with scrapes on her face and her legs. she only had one sock on and no shoes. the good samaritan says the girl was shaken up and couldn't what she said but he knew something terrible happened. >> i got an 8-year-old child myself that just turned 8 years old, a little girl and when i saw this -- appeared to be 7- year-old child that had walked through this dense forest and through some really tough terrain and awfully poor weather conditions and survived this. it is just really a miracle. >> the girl told the good samaritan that her mom and dad

had died in a plane crash and that aircraft was hanging upside down. she was obviously in emotional distress and taken to the hospital with non-life- threatening injuries. an 80-pound male mountain lion struck and killed by a vehicle on interstate 280 in san bruno. >> i first thought it was a person. >> this off duty city firefighter pull over yesterday when he saw the lion's body along the interstate. a spokeswoman for the called fish and wildlife says the adult male had bites to his face and appears he was forced out of nearby space by other mountain lions. mountain lions sightings in san bruno are not common. well the flu is so widespread across much of the u.s. that it is now considered an epidemic by the centers for disease control. it is set to release the figures on how widespread it has become and one of the strains making people sick has

a display area with the artifacts and there are more to see. if you come through here this is a sleeping quarters and one of those 60 people that spent the night spent the night, head to toe and this is the couples room so people that were married got to stay in this particular room and about 14 people that stayed here and back when the ship was in service this was one of the actual sleeper quarters and located next to this room called the torpedo room, torpedo construction room and storage room. >> body shop. >> body shop and it is exactly what it is. what was done in this room? >> area torpedoes were put together and engines were manufactured and put together and they were stored below us, right now we are on the second deck but right below us there's hatches to drop the torpedo below us for storage so they

highs coming up. thanks, rosemary. >> 60bmv offices will be open to accept driver's licenses applications for undocumented immigrants. there are ten bay area offices open today by appointment aen they include concord and the oakland coliseum and santa clara and two offices in san jose. yesterday was the first day that undocumented immigrants could legally obtain a california driver's license. some applicants lined up as early as 3 in the morning. >> julio perez calls this a an honor. he he passed the written driver's license exam. >> i feel that he has reached a goal that it looks like unbelievable. but now you can feel it and touch it. >> this will be very important for our family. >> we were waiting for a long time for this. >> the licenses can only be used for driving in california and aren't valid for other purposes like boarding a plane

completely shut down to traffic for 52 hours. this will be the first time in its 77 year history will be closed for construction. it has been closed before because of weather and strong winds as well as 50th birthday celebrations but it shuts down midnight next friday and scheduled to reopen monday morning. >> why are they doing that? we want to show you why. they will be installing this movable barrier. we got video here to show you so you can see how it work where the machine can move that barrier. right now they basically have pylons that go in front of it or actually inbetween the traffic that doesn't do much in case of collisions and head-on collisions and that's what they are concerned about. the movable barriers providing a safer system of crossing the bridge and it will be installed on that entire 1.7-mile stretch

and on the approach of highway 101 on alexander avenue and those transfer machines will be moved several times to accommodate the traffic and yesterday we talked to people that regularly used the bridge and they say the barriers will be a welcome addition. a great idea. you can't argue against it. inconvenience for two or three days, if it saves lives it is good. >> the barrier trucks will arrive sometime this morning and we want to get more on this week's closure and how it will affect everyone so let's go back to the desk and mike. the bridge will be closed to traffic, the east walkway will remain open to pedestrian and bicyclists and parking lots at the bridge will be closed. golden gate transit bus service will be allowed to cross the bridge and there will be expanded service by the golden gates ferry and people are being advised to use the richmond and bay bridges to travel between san francisco and the north bay but you should be prepared for double the amount of traffic usually

found on the bridges. now when the installation is complete and the barriers in place, there will be some changes that drivers do need to be aware of. >> that's right. for morin county the speed limit on the bridge will be 45, not 55 like it is today. and the lanes will actually merge right to left instead of right to left like it is now. >> and drivers should be prepared for narrow lanes because when you put that barrier in place it shortens the distance and six inches narrower. >> a lot of difference. and our coverage on this major milestone is just beginning inweek and on mornings at 8:00 15, the spokesperson and we will discuss the closure and the importance of the median for years to come. all right. so we will have to keep on that because that will be a big story. exactly.

kelly rasmus is unal ma meda to take us onboard. >> we have moved to the top floor level six of the u.s. s. hornet and sitting in the captain's chair and this is where they used to pilot the ship. >> from this seat you can see there was an advantage of the flight deck. he would be able to seat planes taking off and landing through this front window and through that rear-view mirror. i will hop off of the captain's chair. it is high up and i am kind of short and my cord just got caught. bear with me. this is the pilot house and bridge area. you can see there is a great 360 view of the bay. captain was able to see along the ship when it was in service and once it was docked. the captain was not allowed to leave. he back then had everything he needed to live on board in this tiny area for months. including live-in quarters with a little bed and a bathroom. and the back there and over

well if you are wondering how much the animals in the window are, this is your last weekend to find out. the san francisco spca holiday windows featurerring adoptable cats and dogs will end tomorrow. ain't has helped the spca raise more than $400,000 to find homes for 2300 animals and joining me is amber with the adoption unit of the spca and your friend dakota. tell me a little story about dakota, where did you find her. >> she is three-and-a-half months old and came from one of our rescue partners and found stray with siblings and brought there and came to us for adoption. she is available for adoption today. >> and where, at the mission? >> yes. >> and so the viewers know, you

and i, we hooked up on november 21st, you invited me at the old transit of macy's windows and which was awesome. how did it go? >> it went well. we are excited about it and we did 244 adoptions and that is was 38 dogs and 206 cats and we have two days left and you can still come out and we will be there from 7 today and 6 tomorrow. >> and what are the numbers compared to last year. >> usually we do 250 and 275 so happy with the numbers. we had challenges this year with the weather. we actually lost a day because of the storm. >> yes. >> but still people came out and adopted. it is great. >> speaking of weather it has been cold, at the start of 2015 or the start of any year do you see a drop in adoptions, people say it is over and they forget. >> we are lucky so we lose the event, right? so we lose one of our like

places to adopt. but a lot of folks, maybe people that work in retail or had to travel during the holidays, it gives them the craziness to settle down and gives them a chance to adopt. >> and what about, i am curious about the people that adopt during the holiday season, look at dakota, she is sweet. >> giving you kisses. >> that is sweet. >> and people that adopt for a gift or want to give a child a dog or cat and it doesn't work out, just in general, do you see that this time of year and what do you say, give it a second shot or do you say okay, if it didn't work out we would rather have the dog or cat to find the right home. >> we make a lifetime commitment to all of our animals so if it doesn't work out we encourage folks to bring them back and the good news is that we have done some studies in other national organizations that have done studies and they found that animals given as

on thursday. ts now, 36 degrees in concord and 34 in napa and 34 san francisco and along the peninsula temperatures have rebounded quite nicely in and around santa rosa taking longer. 34 for you because fog reported in this area. in addition to chilly weather, it is gray and foggy and it is tough this morning. 39 in antioch with mostly sunny skies outside your door. for the afternoon today. these numbers very similar to yesterday. a tad warmer for some. 53 for antioch and mid-50s in oakland and san francisco 53 and low to mid-50s over the north bay and mid to upper 50s over the south bay. 56 mountain view and san jose 58 degrees this afternoon in santa cruz with mostly sunny skies. are you thinking about heading to tahoe. we are dry and chilly for the morning hours and into the afternoon why have mid to upper 50s in the forecast there. similar to what we have here.

bidding has begun for elvis presley's two private planes. the lisa marie and hounddog 2 went up for auction. the pair being sold together in a package deal by julian's auction. for display only. they can't be flown but here is pictures from the inside because they are not very ordinary as you can imagine. the lisa marie has a full bar, penthouse bedroom and 24 karat gold seat belts. umm. i don't know what you do with it. the auction will close february 2nd. very cool.
