now long after the last game was played residents say they want it to come down but they don't want an implosion. as the sun sets on candle stick park, the community says they're ready for the new phase. the developer lenar has applied for permits that could allow it to tear down or implode the stadium. the implosion is looked down on by those who live around the area. >> i would not go with the implosion. >> reporter: tonight candle stick families including young families and the elderly packed the council meeting. >> all they're doing is transferring the cost to us. not just in terms of higher, not just in terms of the clean

up and the damage done to our homes, but also in terms of the health care costs and the damage done to our lives. >> reporter: but lenar says the impact of an implosion on a community is much the same as a demolition. the only difference, the demolition takes two months and an implosion takes a few hours. >> reporter: the decision on whether to allow lenar to implode candle stick park will come from the city. lenar hopes to have a decision by late february or early march. the developer says they plan to work with neighbors with temporary evacuation and clean up. >> amber, thank you. more details now on the massive development set to replace the park and occupy the land around it. lenar says it would create a mixed use neighborhood with

are you at. >> reporter: that night belinda called a friend and said she and another girl were with two young men. >> bj called her and asked her if she wanted to come and hang out with her and the guys. the girl said she didn't feel comfortable so she said no. >> reporter: sunday morning. >> sunday morning at 7:20 she called my aunt from a restricted number and said that she was scared and that she didn't know where she was and that these guys took her phone and they won't let her go. >> reporter: an hour later, her cousin got a facebook message saying i am trying to call home, but i can't. i'm scared as expletive. don't respond but tell my dad. i'm trying to get home. >> reporter: her dad's heart ache and hope. >> that she's going to be all right.

they're going to let you go. there's not going to be any problems, just let her go. just let her go. belinda's family side their friend did not know the names of the young men she was with. police are saying tonight that they are tracking down several leads and also analyzing phone records. >> i can't even begin to imagine what that father is going through tonight. jana katsuyama, live in richmond, jana thank you. a suspected car thief led a sheriff deputy on a high speed chase from lafayette through the caldecut tunnel and then crashed. witnesses say they saw a red nissan going about 100 miles per hour just before 2:00 this afternoon. the driver of that nissan hit two other vehicles causing one to roll into a chain link fence. the chp says the deputy had already called off the chase before the crash happened. three people were hurt.

one man says he narrowly avoided getting hit. >> i don't know. i thought somebody sideswiped somebody and caused the accident. but, soon afterward you could hear sirens and they were not far behind. >> both men in that nissan were taken into custody. authorities say the chase started when the driver refused to stop. investigators say the two suspects may have been involved in a robbery at a grocery store. all lanes are reopened following a multi vehicle crash. that accident happened -- new developments now in a deadly police shooting in san francisco. we're learning more about the men who was killed and the weapon he was carrying. also tonight, police released the contents of a suicide note

they say was found on the cell phone of 32-year-old matthew hoffman. he's described as white and a bay area resident. the note read in part, dear officers, you did nothing wrong. you ended the life of a man who was too much of a coward to do it himself. i provoked you, i threatened your life as well as the lives of those around me. more on all this now from ktvu's david stevenson. >> reporter: the shooting sunday night outside the san francisco police mission statement came after three police sergeants three a man blocked the vehicle. when police ordered him to show his hands, investigators say he lifted his sweater displaying what looked to be the butt of a handgun. three deputies fired, he died at the hospital later. they found a bb gun or pellet gun. >> it looks and feels like a real gun. it's heavy, it's metal. >> reporter: police today showed us how similar an air

soft pellet gun is to a department issued zig. it's unclear if there was an orange tip to show it was a replica. >> when you come into one of these situations where a weapon is displayed you literally have a fraction of a second to determine whether it's real. >> reporter: possession of a bb or pellet gun is illegal. they're frequently used to commit crimes. police in indianapolis and chicago have recently sent out messages about these toy weapons looking like real toys. >> those are real rifle that is the suspects paint in order to confuse or make law enforcement believe that they are fake. >> reporter: greg suhr will hold a town hall meeting tomorrow night at 6:00 p.m. on corner stone church. a man hunt is under way in new york city for a gunman who shot and wounded two police

officers tonight. the shooting happened in the bronx as the officers were responding to a robbery call. one officer was shot in the back, the other in the elbow. they're both expected to survive. the new york postreport that is the officer had pulled over but that the driver sped away and crashed. police say he then got out and fired on the officers. all of this comes just a day after the funeral of officer liu. he and his partner were ambushed and killed as they were sitting in their patrol car last month. two former employees of the san francisco 49ers are suing the team claiming age discrimination. the suit claims ceo york openly admitted he wants to hire younger workers from silican valley so he could brand the team as the technology start up of the nfl. anthony lozano and 59-year-old keith canagi had been employed by the niners for more than 20 years a piece. the lawsuit seeks punitive

damages. the nfl says it's company policy not to comment on ongoing litigation. the dow fell 331 points or nearly 2% the nasdaq was down more than 74 points. today's shark declines were fueled by another drop in the price of oil. prices are now close to a six year low because of a glut of oil on the world market. today a barrel of crude oil dropped below $50 a barrel before recovering to close slightly above $60. just six months ago, oil was selling for $100 a barrel. all of this is good news for drivers since gas prices are now under $3 a gallon. cheap oil is also good for the u.s. economy. >> oil is used in all economy. low oil prices is mostly good news. it's good news for the world. >> reporter: stockholders in major oil companies may feel differently. oil companies like exxon mobile

basically in the atmospheric river but going the other way. this is the pattern that got us so wet a few weeks ago but the pattern was tilted. it was more of a horizontal. this moisture was streaming out of the west. now it's heading to the north and going up and over a ridge. we're dry, we have a spare the air day again tomorrow. we're looking for patchy fog tomorrow morning. then clouds in there right now. this is current, i'm not seeing fog right now but this is just cloud cover. it'll help keep temperature a little warmer. i think we're going to be above freezing in most locations. right now in santa rosa it's 41. 45 in concord. fog tomorrow patchy. maybe a little bit of frost as well. temperatures will begin to lighten up out there. these light winds help promote the formation of fog. so be prepared for that like i said. and a cool overnight. 40 in vallejo, 35 in santa

safe way has agreed to pay the state of california almost $20 million for throwing toxic waste. california district attorney and city attorneys filed the complaint accusing safeway of throwing away things such as medication, batteries, electronics and other items containing toxins. part of the settlement will go to environmental projects. the city of oakland ushered in a whole new era this evening with the inauguration of mayor libby shaft. paul chambers now with a look at the new mayor's priorities and what she plans to do tomorrow on her first day in office. >> reporter: support the duties of the office of mayor for the city of oakland. >> of the office of mayor for the city of oakland. >> congratulations. >> thank you. >> reporter: with those words, libby shaft was sworn in as

rams said today he plans to build a new stadium in las vegas which could mean the return of an nfl team in that city. the rams used to play in los angeles and could be heading back. there's also speculation the oakland raiders could move south again and share that facility. after nearly a week without hot water, familys in a south bay apartment complex are finally getting some relief tonight. a tree damaged a gas line at the montclara apartments last tuesday in san jose. people in more than 30 units were left without any hot water. the city says repairs were delayed because the property owners didn't notify the city until late friday. crews were able to restore service just before 5:00 tonight. in washington, d.c. the new 114th congress is set to be sworn in tomorrow. this year republicans are in the majority. one of the first things on the agenda is the election of a house speaker. and as joel waldman reports

it plans to spend $115,000 on an ad campaign telling users they're taking risks since e- cigarettes have been found to contain hazardous material. police are asking for help finding a peeping tom. on two separate occasions a man was found peeping through windows. the man recorded people inside their apartments with a cell phone. the first incident happened in the evening of october 29th of last year. the second happened just last week on the morning of january 1st. there's sadness at a catholic monastery in san jose after one of its priests was killed in a car crash. 68-year-old reverend richard mandoli died yesterday morning on his way to visit his brother in san francisco. mendoli was a member of the

carmelite monastery in san jose. the chp said another car lost control and sent mendoli's car off the highway. a man found shooting at a squad car appeared in court. the charges include attempted murder of two police officers. right now he's being held without bail. his preliminary hearing is set for later this month. jury selection began today in the boston marathon bombing case. a total of 1,200 potential jurors were called to the courthouse. dzhokhar tsarnaev is accused of the boston marathon bombing. prosecutors say he carried out

up around here. we've had pretty cool nights. daytime highs tomorrow mid-50s and 60s. beautiful shot out there tonight. you can see the bay bridge. works its way south. we do have fog right now in concord. we have a little bit of fog showing up in napa but it's very patchy. look at the cloud cover. the motion of it is going the wrong way for us. it's all going up and over the top. now this moisture is going to end up some where but not on top of us. it's going to go out to the plains and east coast where they'll get significant rain and snowfall from it. just for us we'll see a few high clouds. no fog, no coastal fog because the winds at this hour predominantly are going offshore. so these clouds coming in over head are high clouds at the surface we're seeing a little bit of patchy fog. we have the last couple of mornings we will see it again tomorrow morning. these are the current temperatures. it's going to be cool tonight. but dewpoints are slightly warmer than they were last night. so it's going to be not quite as cool. dewpoint temperatures pretty much dictates how cool it can

get. most of the temperatures in the 30s. a spare the air day tomorrow. the worse areas will be eastern zones and in the santa clara county. along with the spare the air comes patchy fog. temperatures will drop to that point and fog will start to form. not extensive though. it's not going to be that big valley fog that goes from redding. it'll just be in patches. if you did see some you will probably see it again tomorrow morning. mostly in the north bay and east bay. overnight lows tonight in the low 30s. that's where the dewpoints are. forecast highs tomorrow i mentioned this earlier, you're going to see upper 60s and low 70s not just for tomorrow but as we head into wednesday as well. thins change on thursday as clouds increase. so everything up over the top. that's how it goes for the next couple of days. here's the long range model. friday morning this is our chance for maybe a sprinkle. it's nothing right.

it's going to mainly increase clouds and cool things off slightly. we're back to it with plenty of nice weather and offshore winds. a dry period, but i hinted at a shot of rain. that comes up on the 17th of january. the models are coming together on this and they're suggesting a pretty, significant rainfall then. maybe two or three storms and it should be nice. it's nice to have this nice weather but it is always nice to have rain on the horizon. >> so a couple of weeks from now. >> a couple of weeks from now we should have rain. >> that's a ways out. a bay area man and hiking partner now about half way up one of the most difficult rock climbs in the world. yorkson and walstead are using a safety rope and sleeping in slings but they're climbing with just their hands and feet.
