north bay and east bay san mateo coast look mild to warm today. 30s and 40s and 50s. 59 in los gatos. just heard from michael. that will translate into a mild warm day. 19 presidio. 19 miles an hour. high pressure wins out. everything is going up and over. hazy, sunshine, mild, windy for some. 68 san jose. 75 santa cruz. 66 downtown. we haven't heard anything big. we were talking about oil prices and how they have come down i would love to know if

in richmond. >> this is an amazing story. belinda has just returned home. joining me live is actually her cousin. i know this has been a really long night for you. you had to be so relieved when you got the phone call last night. >> definitely. we were able to go to san francisco and they were able to pick her up from the bart station. this was yesterday afternoon about after 8:00. i can't remember the time. it's been a long night. but she is safe. i want to thank channel 2 for putting it out there. and everybody who put it out there on social media, facebook, twitter, instagram, even though people talk about bad about it, it worked.

she came home. >> we know she was being held against her will. >> he was being held against her will. she was not being allowed to come home. she did call us and let us know she was okay. the phone call was very suspicious and we were able to deduce from that where she was. and my cousin was able to pick her up from the bart station. >> and emotionally how is she doing? she is in a little shock right now. >> i think she is in a little shock and it will take some time for things to get back to normal for her. >> reporter: thank you so much for joining us. we know it has been a long night for you. thanks again. basically the family has been sitting down with detectives all evening and they just arrived home. just now. a lot of relief snowing that belinda has been found. so we will send it back to you in the studio.

>> we'll get more details with the family later on. thank you, tara. it is a house that was made popular in a 19 pit movie mrs. doubt fire but now it's the center of an arson investigation. s ast is in san francisco pacific heights neighborhood right at the house with more on what happened. >> reporter: good morning to you. san francisco police this morning are trying to figure out why an arsonist targeted this home on signer street where mrs. doubt fire was filmed in the early 1990. someone intentionally set fire to the door here. they also set a small fire here at the garage area. these fires were set at 8:00 last night. the homeowner inside at the time smelled the smoke and called up 911. and she was able to quickly knock down the fires on his own. the home has only minor damage. the place made popular in the

robin williams classic mrs. doubtfire that came out in 1993. fans of the actor and comedian came here to leave flowers and notes and pay tribute to hill. the home has remained a tourist attraction. the man who owns the house is a renowned plastic surgeon. it is unclear what the motive has been. >> hank. hopefully we will learn more. 6:07 is the time. oakland's new mayor libby schaaf is starring her first full day on the job by addressing one of the city's biggest issues. the relationship between city leaders, the police department, and the public. >> i will be spending my very first day as mayor all of it with our police department.

i will be addressing every single lineup. >> she wants to get to know the men and women who's job it is to keep the city safe. and she wants them to know she supports them. >> i'm here today to let libby schaaf and the city council know we don't just want words but we want action. >> while mayor schaaf is attending roll call -- this is video from the protest on december 8th where more than 100uc borkly students and protestor were arrested. the group shut down interstate 80 for hours. this morning they will be arraigned a the the courthouse in oakland. the group by any means necessary is holding a news conference after the hearing.

it's demanding all charges against protestors. she's been on the job for the first of the year. but today zoom liccardo will initially begin. following an inauguration -- meantime the outgoing san jose mayor chuck reed is going back to his roots as a lawyer. after eight years as mayor, he will be joining the san jose law firm of hopkins and carly as special council. since his first election in 2006, reed worked for a law firm that focused on real estate, environmental, and land use law. he has no plans to run for political office again. however, he will stay politically involved in public affairs and pension reform. the empty lot where 13-year- old andy lopez was shot and killed by a sheriffs deputy has

been taken over by the county. a temporary memorial for lopez has been set up in the lot but now the county says it will continue its plans to build a neighborhood park. supporters hope to -- but the counties announcement did not mention lopez's death. some teenagers if a rose daunt -- it was written by a member of that commission and it has the support of two city supervisors. san francisco voters would have to approve changing that aimed at getting teenagers more engaged in politics. it's not totally unprecedented, maryland they already allow 16- year-olds to vote there.

on friday a bay area university will unvail a new movie designed to prevent sexual violence on college campuses. some already say it is tough to watch. >> i just kept sobbing and around the third or fourth time i just gave up. and i went numb. >> that is just a clip from the movie can't thread a moving needle. it is based on sexual assault victims and perpetrators. michael wayland directed that movie. it will be shown to all incoming freshmen this year.

the city of sonoma telling you take down those portable basketball hoops. the city's mayor says it's a safety issue after some of the hoop les toppled over in high winds. the people who owned the portable hoops say it's hard to find enough basketball courts and city parks and the portable hoops encourage kids to go outside and play. speaking of hoops. the golden state warriors have won 12 straight home games. they beat the oklahoma city communitier last night lei thunderstorm watchson. he finished with steph curry. ever they pacers tomorrow night. later this morning we will find out who will be inducted this year into the baseball hall of fame. bay area native and one-time giant randy john sop is expected to be in the class of

>> you fill up and look around and it's amazing. >> i know. interesting pattern here. some areas light fog. others have a owling breeze. so we do actually i know it doesn't look like it in the big picture we have much going on. 30s and 40s and 50s on the lows. there is an easterly breeze that is rather robust. parts of san francisco and along the san mateo coast. 30s for some. 40s for others. 33 santa rosa. light fog. that is 33 in santa rosa with light fog. 50 in san francisco. 48 half-moon bay. yet the reports of a really robust breeze in pacific and san francisco. higher elevations are amazingly warm here. you find plenty of 30s. healdsburg and lake port in there. these are 2-4 degrees warmer than two days ago. upper 40s, mid 40s for some.

or 30s. 34 for alamo. brentwood 40. i know antioch is close. there is a little bit of a breeze and what is there is showing signs of being an offshore breeze. or northeast for most. still 16 around the presidio. everything going up and over. these systems simply don't have a chance. high pressure is over us. it's kind of put down stakes and says you're not moving in here. all the energy is in the middle of the country. windchill factor 30s-40 below. tonight you can see the the current temperatures. that cold air made it to new york city. these are fast moving systems. called them clipper systems. bringing areas to chicago and cincinnati. if you have travel plans there, bundle up, it is cold. 20s up in the mountains. 30s for sacramento and ukiah. look at l.a. almost 60-degrees. high pressure wins out. it will be our fair weather friend. warmest temps on the peninsula.

missing. u.s. navy helicopter helped transport some of the items. the crews were unloading what appeared to be seats in other debris. that plane was on its way from indonesia to singapore when it hit bad weather and crashed more than a week ago. san rafael has an emergency moratorium on massage parlors. they approved the 45 day freeze last night. it's the latest step in a two- year effort. many people who live in san rafael support the ban. but therapists say it could create confusion about their businesses. >> it would have a debt mental effect on myself and other massage therapy practitioners. >> i don't know what the answer is. . but i would like to see them leave. >> the moratorium could be

tuesday, january 6th i'm dave clark. >> good morning, i'm pam cook. time now is almost 6:30. check in with steve. it will be a pretty nice day today. >> for most. for most. >> no fog. >> patchy fog. but not a lot. mainly inland. huge difference in the temps. some areas won't have a hard time getting above 59. but for santa cruz it's going to be in the mid 70s for some. everything goes up and over. there is a pretty good little breeze. patchy fog up at sonoma county airport. probably concord and livermore. 40s on the temps to near 50 degrees. take your pick on a location. this is above los gatos. not in town. very warm air aloft. at the surface you can find 30s and 40s. that warm air is trapping everything.

you are coming in for a night to the city. you might to think about use the richmond or bay bridge. this is a look at westbound bay bridge. that traffic looks okay get into san francisco. this is most likely what it will look like next saturday night as people will not be able to use the golden gate bridge. they will be coming down here westbound. if you are driving on 580 westbound, it does look okay. 6:32 let's go back to the desk. police in san francisco trying to figure out who set fire to the home made famous in the robin williams movie mrs. doubt fire. alex savidge is joining us live now. you're in the pacific heights neighborhood where this happened. so what happened? >> reporter: good morning, to you. san francisco police still piecing this together. they are searching for the arsonist who targeted this well known home where mrs. doubt fire was filmed back in the

early 1990s. someone last night set fire to the rug the the door mat. and they also it will a small fire near the garage door. you can see some of the burn mark there is as we push in. those fires were all set about 8:00 last night. the homeowner smelled the smoke and called up 911 but he was able to knock down the fire on his own. this place was made popular in the robin williams classic. after williams died earlier this year, fans of the actor and comedian came here to the home to leave flowers and notes on the steps of the house to pay tribute to him and the home remains a tourist attraction. perhaps fittingly the man who owns the mrs. doubt fire house is a renowned plastic surgeon who works mostly with transgender men and women. the motive at this point remains unclear. san francisco police still piecing this all together. and we have put in a call or i should say we have reached out to san francisco police for

more information on this investigation. we'll let you know when we hear back. back to you. >> alex savidge in san francisco. thank you. time is 6:33. meantime a man hunt is under way right now in new york. for at least two men who police say shot two police officers. the 30 and 38-year-old police officers are expected to survive. police say they were rushing to a call about a robbery at a grocery store. when they arrived, they found two men going into a nearby restaurant. that is when police say one of the men started shooting. the man stole a car and fled that scene. the car and a gun were found a short time later. [ inaudible ] >> reporter: san francisco police are releasing the contents of an apparent suicide note found on the cell phone of

32-year-old matthew hoffman. hoffman is a man that was shot and killed by officers on sunday night. part of the note reads here dear officers, you did nothing wrong. you ended the life of a man who was too much of a coward to do it himself. i provoked you. hoffman's father gave police permission to release the note. on sunday night police say hoffman was blocking their patrol car from leaving the station on the mission district on 49th and valencia. when offices ordered him to show him his hand he reached for a handgun. hoffman pointed the gun at the officers. the officers shot hoffman hitting him three time. he died at san francisco general hospital. police later discovered the gun he had was a fake. police say it did not have an orange tip. police say they are seeing more cases of people using bb or

pellet guns also to commit crimes. >> it's very worrisome because as you can see it looks and feels like a real gun. it's heavy. it's metal. and again officers don't want to have to use their firearms if you don't have to. >> reporter: police chief greg suhr is holding a town hall meeting tonight at corner stone church right next to the police station to discuss sunday's shooting. in the meantime police in indianapolis and chicago and other parts of the country really are sharing a warning about people trying to make real guns look like fake gun. they are real assault rifles and handguns. police in other cities say peel are painting them bright colors like pink and orange to make them look fake in order to confuse officers. as if for the officers involved in the shooting last weekend, they are on paid leave which is

standard procedure. chief says this is not the only suicide by cop case. back to you at the desk. >> that is really scary about the fake guns as well. 6:36 is the time. happening today governor brown will preside over a ground breaking ceremony in fresno. once completed, the system will connect san francisco and los angeles with trains capable of speeds up to 200 miles an hour making the trip in less than three hours. the first stretch of track to be built is a 29-mile segment. the system is scheduled to be complete by 2029. this morning's ground breaking ceremony is at future site of the bullet train station in frees though. >> i jerry brown do solemnly swear. >> the governor says he wants california to get 50% of its electricity from renewable sources by 2030. he also wants to cut the use of gasoline in the state in half.

hundreds of possible jurors are filling out their own questionnaires that will be used to eliminate people who might have a conflict. three people died in that attack at the boston marathon. more than 260 were hurt including a young boy from martinez. >> the government has a signed confession and it has a video of him placing the crock pot which contained the bomb in front of a little boy that was killed. the constitution requires that the government prove guilt beyond a reasonable doubt. >> the jury selection is expected to wrap up tomorrow and the trial will begin january 26th. as crews begin candle stick park -- for weeks workers have been removing seats and hazardous materials such as asbestos from the stadium. the developer has applied for permits that could allow it to

tear down or implode the stadium. the implosion option is opposed by many but at a meeting last night developers said it would be quicker and less expensive than slowly taking the stadium apart. >> our goal is to have it gone and a new day a new era begin as quakily -- as quickly as possible. >> i would not go for the implosion. it might harm everyone who is around here. >> the decision to whether or not implode candle stick will come from the city. the developer hopes to have a decision by late february or early march and says it will work with neighbors on issues such as temporary relocation and cleanup. lanar says it will include a mix use neighborhood. it will include retail, office space, and thousands of new homes. and they promise to build an

of the east bay hills. so tuesday, wednesday hazy, cool to warm. napa, antioch, brentwood. probably upper 50s to near 60. santa cruz will be about 75. clouds will roll in friday. it looks like a weak system. mostly dry. there could be a little hit and miss showers. i think south of monterey as we head toward the weekend. high pressure is is built in. so for the morning it will be clear. cool to cold. hazy sunshine. warm on parts of the coast. and parts of the bay. 33 santa rosa. 49 san francisco. concord 46. why is that? because there is a little bit of a breeze s and that helps. the higher elevations you get up around 1700 to 2,000 feet almost 51-60 degrees. 30s for lake port, healdsburg. petaluma at 40.

>> reporter: there is a lot of firefighters and police still on the scene on martin avenue. we are here at the roadblock. this is near middle field and university avenue. they are not letting any traffic on to this street because they have a lot of fire equipment and hoses laying down in the street. the fire is out. when we pulled up we still saw smoke rising but it is out. everybody is out safe. firefighters are now salvaging what they can from inside that house. firefighters say that a family was inside and they were woken up by a smoke alarm going off just after 5:00 a.m.. we are told a man, a wife and his two children escaped. firefighters arrived and found the flames and heavy smoke in the back and toward the side of the home. they worked to extinguish it. no other homes were threatened. now they are in the process of over haul. they may be looking into what started this fire. one thing we did ask the chief, what was the cause of this? they just don't know. it's too early. it was a very cold night so

they will look to see if it's heat related. did they have the heater on. is this related to a christmas tree or lights? they just don't have any idea. that is the next thing they will focus on. pam. >> thank you janine. we will check back in with you. crude oil prices inching upward this morning. that is after the price fell more than 5% yesterday. it did slip below the $50 a barrel psychological level which is the lowest it has been in nearly six years. u.s. gas prices continue to drop. they have fallen for 102 days in a row. the national average now $2.19. down more than $1.10. and the average is less than $2 a gallon in seven states with missouri having the lowest at $1.96. that is $1.50 less than what we are paying. >> steve say he saw it around $2.20. wow. time is 6:51.

channel 2 morning news. 6:54 is the time. two former employees of the san francisco 49ers are suing the team for age discrimination. the lawsuit was filed by 56- year-old anthony lazano and 59- year-old keith. they and other older employees were fired in 2011. they claim ceo jed york openingly admitted he wanted to hire younger workers so he could brand the team as the technology start-up of the nfl. the team violated federal regulations by firing a group of older members. the lawsuit seeks punitive damages. the 49ers decline to comment on the suit. space x they called off today's plans to launch a rocket to the international space station. now the launch plan were canceled just one minute before the unmanned rocket was supposed to take off this morning. at this point we're not sure why the launch was aborted. for the first time space x is
