exchange is a little more than a month away. john fowler is here with a bay area woman who says she struggled with privacy issues after she tried to get coverage. john. >> that's right frank. when it comes to privacy of course not is more precious than your personal health information. 26-year-old artisan marketing rep geseau says she lost her privacy searching for health coverage. >> i think it's scary it can get out any where. >> reporter: she says she went to the covered california website last month. >> i put my phone number and all my information in my covered california account. >> reporter: and got a phone call the next day. >> i talked to someone. decided i wasn't going to go with them. i didn't need their help. i didn't call anyone else or pursue any other health insurance after that. >> reporter: a week later she says more calls. >> hello?

>> reporter: annoying health insurance rep calls. from all over the country. about two-a-day for weeks. >> hello. i got one phone call from an insurance company in ohio. they said covered california had already sold my phone number to a bunch of different insurance companies. >> we keep our consumer information secure and confidential. >> reporter: but covered california spokesperson scaleri confirmed the agency did share with health insurance agents some data for consumers who didn't finish the application. >> luckily i'm not getting any phone calls anymore. >> reporter: covered california tells me it no longer shares any contact information. also you should know that there are look alike website that is try to fool you into thinking you're giving information to a legitimate source but it's not covered california. the agency plans to investigate just how daniel's information got out. >> they say it's legal but why is the state giving away this

personal information. >> reporter: i pointed out it no longer does that. it was doing that last year in order to help people. give people another voice if you would to help them get signed up and get insurance. they say they were trying to help. >> all right, john fowler in the newsroom tonight. john, thank you. hazardous material teams swarmed a home. that home is on henry lane in san ramon. john sasaki live now with new information john about an arrest made there. >> reporter: hazmat crews were at that home second one in here on henry lane for most of the day. they've already left and police wrapped up their work moments ago. they came here investigating reports of a marijuana grow. they discovered chemical that is could have been unstable creating a dangerous situation. they found several butane tanks as well. butane can be used to make hash

oil. it's similarly explosive. they say this was honey oil. >> the butane tanks are dangerous. contra costa county hazmat was notified. they respond to the scene, they work with san ramon fire and they rendered the scene safe. at that point there was a search warrant that was authored and the remainder of the residents were searched. >> reporter: police arrested oneman who was at home at the time. they identify him at 31-year- old ahmad soleman. he was on probation at the time. he is now facing numerous charges including cultivation of marijuana for sale. sam licardo is getting sworn in as san jose's new mayor tonight. the ceremony just started.

hours earlier licardo shared his first council meeting. there was also a friendly demonstration tonight. >> reporter: that is still going on. in fact, a group of homeless advocates some who lived at the homeless encampment the jungle they are here holding signs to highlight homelessness in the city. publish safety, economic development, among the issues for licardo's new role. sam licardo presided over the meeting of the new city council. >> we're all excited to get going. we have a great team on the council. i know a lot of folks who are eager to move the city forward. >> reporter: licardo hoping to set an optimistic tone after a rough election season he says he's hoping on extending economic opportunities and building relationships with the city and its residents. the biggest priority is public safety and many strained relations with the police

officers association. >> i know we have an opportunity now with new leadership and the police union to have new conversations. >> reporter: while those conversations continue over pension reform the union is quick to point out that police officer numbers in san jose is getting worse. >> san jose needs a global fix. we need to fix everything. stop the litigation. >> reporter: according to the union, 14 officers left last month. two of them were training officers for recruits at the police academy. that leaves over 900 street ready police officers. >> this is the time to take urgent action. we can't wait any more. we waited far too long. we waited the last few years as i've certainly been ringing the alarm as well as many others that were headed in a direction that is making our neighborhoods less safe. >> reporter: and licardo will be addressing more of his

priorities in the new year as his inauguration speech is happening right now. we will have much more on this at 10:00. frank. new figures out today show californians have cut down on water use by almost 10%. the state's water resources control board reported today that california residents reduced over all water use by 9.8% in november. compared to the same period a year ago. while it is an improvement it's just half way toward the goal governor jerry brown had set asking people to cut use by 20%. >> all plans aren't created equal. our goal was just to nudge people into taking the actions they had already put on paper. but it turns out that some have much better plans than others. >> residents on the central coast did the best job in november reducing water use. they managed to cut back by 21%. people living in the southeast regions in california reduced

their water use by just 1.2%. we're learning new information tonight about an arson suspect who's accused of setting fire to a famous san francisco house. police tonight are looking for a former patient of a plastic surgeon who lives in the home that was used in the mrs. doubtfire movie. two fires were set there last night. david steveson has -- stevenson has more. >> reporter: they have the name of a suspect given to them by the doctor who lives here. the san francisco house made famous in the film mrs. doubtfire draws fans of robin williams. >> everybody is drawing on the rock as a tribute to robin williams. >> reporter: but the visitor last night set the garage door on fire. the owner and surgeon specializing in transgender

surgery invited neighbors in to view the damage. he had a physical confrontation before the fire. police have her name. she's described as a woman in her 40s. >> it's a lot more disturbing knowing this person is intentionally targeted the victim. >> reporter: tourists viewing the home say they were glad the damage was minor. >> we saw it on tv this morning. we were wondering if it was safe for us to come by. >> reporter: the fire has not deterred the curious and even tourists from coming by through the evening. we've seen a number of people. police say they're checking with numbers. >> all these years later that house is still a draw. thank you. san mateo county investigators are trying to find a man who attacked a woman who was out jogging yesterday. a man came up behind her and pulled down her running shorts he then ran away. the suspect is described as a

she says she supports them over protests and allegations of racism. >> clearly this anger is about something legitimate. we have got to address it. at the same time we have to make this city safer. >> she's been very supportive of the police department and we appreciate that. she's clearly very passionate about public safety and we're looking forward to working with her. >> the police department and community work together to create a better relationship. while major shaft was at this morning's police roll call. people appeared in court right across the street. you can see a large crowd of people waiting for the hearing outside the courtroom. more than 100uc berkeley students and other protesters were arrested december 8th. remember they shut down the freeway intertate 80 for hours that evening. today the das office said very few of them will be charged with any crimes but police reports must still be completed. the group by any means necessary wants all charges dropped. an attorney for the group says that investigators are trying to intimidate and inconvenience

protesters by making them show up to court and wait for hours to find out what's going on with their case. the long awaited barriers designed to prevent the violent head on collisions that have taken place ever since the golden gate was built 50 years ago, during the closure a zipper truck will be installed and tested. the zipper truck will adjust the movable median depending on the type of day or conditions. >> our operators will be able to place that barrier to within plus or minus one-half inch of where it is supposed to be on the roadway. >> the barrier will replace the yellow plastic pylons that currently separate traffic. the bridge will close just after midnight on friday night. it's set to reopen at 4:00 a.m. on monday morning if not sooner. >> for those who survived a head on collision on the golden gate bridge, the movable barrier is obviously long overdue. noelle walker spoke to one man today who barely walked away from one of those crashes.

>> the golden gate bridge is the most iconic and one of the most photographed landmarks in the bay area. its beauty and utility all wrapped into one. more than 2 billion vehicles have crossed this span since it opened in 1937. >> i love it. >> reporter: bryan garretson crosses it once a day. >> it's beautiful, it's always rendered me kind of speechless. i would like to think of it as my bridge. >> reporter: garretson was driving from the airport to his home in sausalito. it was a beautiful clear afternoon just like today then it happened. >> i didn't see anything coming toward me. all i remember being struck on the driver's side just to the rear of me. >> reporter: a driver traveling south on the bridge crossed over the center line, hit garretson's car then slammed into an suv seriously injuring three women inside.

leaving one of them paralyzed. >> oh my goodness. >> reporter: this is the first time garretson has seen footage from that day. >> that could have been me. that could have been me. >> reporter: garretson says he feels lucky. a split second made the difference between walking away from an accident and living with injuries for the rest of his life. >> every day i see distracted drivers on that bridge in the center lane and i cringe for what will ultimately happen again. i'm a huge advocate of this barrier going up. >> it took years of debate but a movable median barrier going up this weekend is meant to prevent the same kind of accident from happening again. for this regular bridge commuter the barrier can't be put in soon enough. >> why did we wait so long? why do we allow things to be mired in red tape and debate when the benefits are clear? >> reporter: at the golden gate bridge, noelle walker, ktvu

channel 2 news. we have traffic on the bay bridge to show you. i know i'm the weather guy but i'm fascinated by traffic. i looked at the bay bridge and there's a live camera in emeryville. it's not usual that it's slow in both directions this time of night. look at the red lights going into the city. you can see it's barely moving right here by the arrow. the northbound lanes you can see they're moving. it's this area going south it looks as or westbound at this point looks like it's moving pretty slowly. the bay bridge snarled a little bit right now. 62 in vallejo. frank did you know i was fascinated by traffic. i am. >> snarled up. >> my wife can't believe it. weather fascinates me but traffic fascinates me. why it slows up, why it speeds up. i always talk to sal about it and he gives me some good insights. back to the temperatures it was warm today. 68degrees today in or 78

degrees in santa cruz. tied a record. that's pretty warm. current temperatures outside are in the 50s. overnight lows tonight will be a lot like last night. we'll see low and mid-30s. that indicates sierra sinking and warming. during the day it'll create a warmer temperature environment. so that's why we saw that 78 in santa cruz. that's why we'll see temperatures tomorrow into the 70s around the bay area. upper 60s to low 70s. the forecast model yellows are 70s. this is an isotherm map. using colors to represent temperatures. that represents upper 60s and low 70s. that's a pretty warm temperature footprint for january 7th. so it's going to be very warm tomorrow and it starts to cool down. as this high pressure releases. tomorrow it's there that's why it's warm. maybe a record shows up in san

benito. the clouds increase. temperatures trending down. doesn't get cold just gets cooler. maybe a sprinkle but very most likely a little bit of drizzle. forecast highs for the warmest day of the week most likely tomorrow. will be lots of mid-50s, upper 60s and low 70s. depends where you are. by mission peak it'll funnel the wind down. saturday and sunday dry. next chance of real rain comes on thursday, around the 17th of the month. so that's actually a real shot at real rain. so that's kind of what we're hanging our hat on. in the meantime enjoy what we have. >> let's hope we have good rain. the baseball hall of fame announces two new inductees.

committee has elected san francisco as its nominee to host the 2024 summer games. san francisco's team has said the bay area is the perfect setting for the olympics and that there's already venues in place that would save a lot of money. but some in san francisco are opposed to the idea. they say they don't want millions of the dollars of public money to be used. >> about not only cost overs but what happens to the cities that host the olympics. the displacement that happens. if you think people are getting pushed out of san francisco now just wait until the olympic games in 2024. >> aside from san francisco, los angeles, boston and washington, d.c. are being considered. its decision is expected to be made thursday and announced on friday. the baseball hall of fame got a little more crowded today. >> it's become since the steroid issue a story as much about who didn't get in as who does get in. and barry bonds just to flip it off the top didn't make it.

i never joined a fraternity in college and now i'm amongst one of the coolest in the world. >> all right, randy johnson. looking good. again, 97% so that gives you an idea with barry bonds there at 36.8%. how far down he is. you need 75% to get in. roger clemens, mark mcguire, sammy so sa -- sosa a long way to go with the performance enhancement era. barry bonds a big story. starred for as you know most of his career with the giants he's the all time home run record liter but that's not going to cut it with the hall of fame voters as of now, they are not about to let anybody in to the hall of fame that's been connected with the steroid era. meantime, 49ers haven't hired a new head coach as of yet. but they do have a former general manager who's found himself a job.

that would be scott mccluen. started his job as the vice president of player personnel is promoted to general manager and looks like he's just about ready to sign a deal as the redskins new general manager. scott mccluen. has found himself some work and his dad played i believe safety with the oakland raiders a long time ago. >> randy johnson just seems like a good guy. >> he's a solid guy. he played briefly here. you know when he was with the san francisco giants and you know he's a guy who never sought publicity. a quiet guy but looks more comfortable in his own skin right now obviously enjoying retirement and i'm telling you what, he is like 6'11" and throwing 100 miles per hour. >> can you imagine facing him. >> a lot of guys wanted nothing to do with standing in that batters box against that randy johnson. the big unit. >> nice. >> i agree with you on clemens and barry bonds. i think you're right they did their stuff before the steroid
