now at noon, a manhunt underway for gunmen accused of carrying out a deadly terrorist attack at a magazine office in paris. why many believe the publication was targeted. new details about the fire police say was intentionally set at the san francisco homemade famous by the movie mrs. doubtfire. and for the sixth day in a row, bay area residents are being asked to spare the air as our mark tamayo monitors the air quality. good afternoon.

i'm tori campbell. we begin with a terror attack in paris that's left 12 people dead. the attack was at a weekly publication that often saterized the muslim world. brian flores joins us in the newsroom with the search on the gunmen and a huge outpouring of support in the streets of paris. >> good afternoon. in the past few hours, since the attack, police have recovered what is believed to be the gunmen's getaway car. we're getting a picture of who the victims are but what's still alarming, the gunmen remain on the loose with no sign of where they are at. gunfire through the streets the paris. masked gunmen terrorized the office of the weekly magazine charlie hebdo. 12 people are dead. 11 wounded. four critically. the president of france quick to call this a terror attack. >> translator: we're being threatened because we have a country of freedom. because we're a country of

freedom, we beat the threats and will punish the aggressors. >> back in 2011, the same offices were firebombed after it published a cartoon spoof of islam's holiest figure. about an hour before the rampage, the magazine tweeted out a cartoon of an isis leader. >> translator: we are a united country. we have to react in firmness. [inaudible] >> of the dead, the magazine's editor-in-chief, three cartoonists and three security guards. french police officers are among the wounded. france remains on the highest alert as possible with soldiers on guard at many tourist locations, including the eiffel

tower. >> this is something that can't be tolerated. >> reporter: along with condemning the attack, the house has pledged support and intelligence support to find those sphonsic. on the streets of paris, several people have gathered. at the same time world leaders are speaking out against the attack. >> we must never allow democracy and freege of speech to be damaged by the -- freedom of speech to be damaged by these terrorists. >> i spoke briefly with san francisco police and they say there's no known threat here but they are urging people to remain vigilant. a candlelight vigil is planned for 7:00 at the consulate. a tour bus and a big rig collided on a busy highway. one of the big rigs hit the

side of the bus with a glancing blow. it happened after 9:30 a.m. on hacienda heights. ten bus passengers have been taken to hospitals with minor injuries. the others are considered walking wounded. the crash blocked about five lanes of the highway backing up traffic for several miles. a deadly car accident in pacifica shut down a major thoroughfare during the morning commute. police are trying to figure out who is behind the wheel of a black mercedes that crashed and then burst into flames on skyline boulevard just before 4:00 this morning. skyline from king drive to manner was shut down for ours while detectives conducted their investigation. >> for an unknown reason across the double lines in the area where the curve is and that area of the roadway, collided with a pole. >> because the car had paper plates it's taking investigators a bit longer to determine the victim's identity. detectives are looking at whether high speed or alcohol

played a role in the crash. b.a.r.t. police are looking for the person or persons who shot a man in the parking lot of the san leandro bayfair b.a.r.t. station. police say a man in his 20s was shot in the west parking lot on his -- hesperian boulevard. there were reports of three shots pie as many as two people. the victim was hit in the chest. he was rushed to the hospital and is in stable condition. police have not released any information on the suspect for a motive in the shooting. antioch police have arrested an oakland man in connection with a deadly shooting last month. investigators say 27-year-old michael vickers shot and killed ricardo walls of pittsburg on december 14th. walls was in the garage of a house on peppertree way visiting friends when he was approached by a group of people and shots were fired. police say the investigation led to identifying vickers as the shooter. today is another spare-the-

air day. mark tamayo is monitoring the air quality. good afternoon. >> good afternoon. when we don't have storms, the air quality comes down a bit. we've been trackingth haze. here's the live camera looking out toward oakland. a bit of haze out there as you can see here. there's nothing to mix out the lower levels of the atmosphere. once again, you heard winter spare the air alert issued. you can see the air qualities. you can't have fires out there. the main reason, we don't want to slide more on the scale because that could be happening if we had more fires. what's happening, a stable layer trappingth haze closer to the service. just for comparison, yesterday, you could see the values up in the north bay and the central bay in the 90s in the east bay and the saner da clara valley over 100. these numbers, everybody in the orange for today. as a result, that's why the air quality management issued that

spare the air for today. there's a chance we could have more because the weather pattern is not changing too much over the coming days. what would clear out the atmosphere would be a storm. we'll let you know if we're tracking anything in the forecast coming up. >> thank you. new details of an arrest in a case of arson at the house where mrs. doubtfire was film at the home at prodway and steiner. that home is owned by a surgen who specializes in transgender surgery. he had an encounter with a patient. san francisco police say the suspect was taken into custody in the south bay this morning. fire crews in oakland knocked down a fire at a home they believe was started by squatters. we're told the house was engulfed in flames when firefighters got to the home at about 5:00 a.m. it's a block from

international. it took firefighters half an hour to get the fire under control. no one was hurt but the home was nearly gutted. damage is estimated at 300 to 400,000. squatters may be blamed for a fire this morning in richmond. it started aren't 7:00 a.m. in an -- around 7:00 a.m. in an empty commercial building. nearby street were blocked to traffic for 30 minutes while firefighters put on the the flames. the two-story building was speesed to be vacant. however -- supposed to be vacant. firefighters found one person unconscious inside and pulled them out. no word on their condition. the cause is under investigation. a 30-year-old man is under arrest after police discovered a marijuana grow in san ramon. the hazmat team was called out to the home on henry lane because police worried butane canisters used to process this operation may be exposed.

>> the devices were fairly sophisticated. there were quite a few. i would consider this a fairly sophisticated operation they had going. >> the hazmat team briefly blocked off the neighborhood while they safely removed the butane tanks. police also found grow lights and other equipment inside the garage. the suspect is being held at the martinez bail without jail because of a probation violation. santa rosa police say they have found a little girl who disappeared while at school this morning. 10-year-old victoria valdez was found on fulton road about four miles away from steele lane elementary school. this appears she just walked away from the school after getting into an argument. police are still investigating the circumstances of her disappearance. a high school teacher on paid leave while being investigated. four bay area hospitals up

an east bay teacher is now on paid leave after being accused of lewd acts with a student. 49-year-old joe was arrested friday evening. he's a social studies teacher

at james logan high school in union city. earlier that day, school district officials called police after learning of an inappropriate physical relationship with a female student. school officials don't believe there are other victims but are asking anyone with information on the case to contact union city police. bill cosby is returning to the stage tonight for the first time since he became the center of sexual assault allegations. this week, the 77-year-old comedian has three shows in canada. so far, more than 15 women have accused cosby of assault, leading to the cancellation of at least ten performances on his tour. his reception is expected to be mixed with some groups planning protests and others vowing to show up to support the comedian. the first public meeting was in in san jose over the sale of four bay area catholic hospitals. seaton medical center, seaton coast side, owe o'conner are

being sold along with two others in los angeles. some protested the sales outside rallying. some union workers worry the company will not continue their tradition of serving the community. >> le they cut services that -- they cut services that the community needs but maybe they are not profitable like labor and delivery, certain cancer treatment lines and mental health. >> however, the california nurses association says it supports the sale. kamala harris has final approval. her decision is expected by next month. 150,000 people are being told they need to switch doctors soon because of a contract dispute between sutter

health and their insurance provider. blueshield of california canceled coverage for all hospitals and medical providers affiliated with sutter health effective last thursday. the insurance company will send out letters to those customers as well as 140,000 others who live near sutter facilities. they listen told to expect higher costs if they continue to use suttert facilities and staff. blueshield and sutter health say they remain far apart on a new contract. a showdown is shaping up in congress over approval of the keystone oil pipeline. prom has promised to veto legislation if it passes. but the republican-led congress says it now has the power to do an end run around the president. >> now is the time to accept real till. >> reporter: as promised, mitch mcconnep making the keystone pipeline the first order of

business. the project would move from canada to gulf coast refineries. the bill's sponsor is promising jobs and much more. >> it's about energy, jobs, economic growth, national security. >> it's the most important thing to be energy dependent. >> reporter: and identical bill failed to pass by one vote in november. the latest keystone legislation is widely expected to pass this time around. the white house wasting no time responding. >> we already have in place a well-established process one that predates that administration for evaluating infrastructure projects that span borders like the keystone pipeline. so i don't understand why congress would weigh into a process already ongoing. >> reporter: if the bill passes and the president vetoes it, congress would need a two third majority to override -- need a

two-thirds majority to override it. in washington, joel wauldman, fox news. search teams have spotted the tail section of flight 8501. photos released by the indonesian government show the wreckage of the bottom of the java sea. it's key finding out why the plane crashed 11 days ago since the plane's two black boxes and flight data recorders are in the section. search teams recovered another body. the remains of 40 people have been found so far. there were 162 passengers and crew members on board. a san jose city councilman is expressing support for adding toll lanes to a congested south bay highway. the valley transit authority says a toll lane on highway 85 would speed up the commute around san jose. highway 85 currently has three lanes in both directions. city councilman johnny kamas

supports the idea of adding a fourth lane along the stretch that runs between highway 487 and 280 making it a toll lane. >> my concern would be road construction because that's always a mess. more lanes is good. you know, having the option to pay for it, if that's the only way to do it, i think it would be worth it. >> the vta is also consider converting the current carpool lanes to toll lanes, so that would remove the expense of adding a fourth lane to the highway. it's warming up out there. in fact, the warmest locations will be on track to reach the 70s. we're talking about january weather here. but low to mid-70s out there. as you can see our live camera looking out towards san francisco bay, there is the transamerica pyramid. the left portion of your screen. we have another spare the air alert for today and for tomorrow as well, into your thursday forecast.

right now on live stormtracker2, you can see the main system is the storm in the pacific. but all of the energy is leaving us with mostly sunny skies and hazy sunshine as well. no rainfall to detect across the entire state and current numbers out there pretty mild, especially look at this, the half moon bay bay number. 73 degrees. san francisco checking in 63. san jose, 61 and lots of upper 50s to near 60. already lower 60s out toward concord and walnut creek. here is live camera looking out toward the golden gate bridge here. as you can see, a lot of sunshine over san francisco. forecast headlines for today, we do have this, a lot of sunshine and it's warm. a few extra clouds for your thursday and no raindrops this weekend. a little bit of cooling for both saturday and into sunday. high pressure has been building over the bay area over northern california. this is responsible for keeping the storm track up to the north and providing the warm temps. the change for tomorrow is this, the cold front moves closer to the coastline.

with that a few extra clouds and temperatures will shave off a few degrees into your thursday morning forecast. we once had high hopes this would produce rain. but it looks like just a cloud producer for us and temperatures coming down a few degrees. of this is the model for wednesday. and then we'll take this into thursday. tomorrow we'll call it partly sunny. but no major changes out there. no major storms to track over the next few days. as far as temperatures, look at all of these 60s and the warmest locations will be in the lower 70s with morgan hill and gilroy and santa cruz 75 degrees. 75 in santa cruz and half moon bay 73. here is a look ahead to your five-day forecast -- with the temperatures a little bit cooler into your thursday with a few high clouds out there as well for thursday and into friday. and the theme will continue into the weekend, primarily lower 60s overnight lows in the 30s and 40s and we are fea

stocks are rising in afternoon trading on wall street as the price of oil steadied near six-year lows. right now, crude oil is at 48.17 a barrel. there is a report showing u.s. businesses hired more workers. we learned today that federal

reserve policymakers feel the big drop in oil prices is likely to end up boosting economic growth. taking a live look at the big board, the dow is up 175. the nasdaq is up 48 and the s&p is up 19. the controversial film "the interview" has turned out to be a streaming success for sony. it's been rented or purchased more than 4 million times since its christmas online release. sony says the film has already made $31 million via streaming as well as 5 million in theaters. sony initially yanked the film following threats from hackers both online and in a limited number of theaters and the director of the fbi said he's confident that north korea was behind the cyber attack on sony. he said the threats made were traced to ip addresses used exclusively by the north koreans and there's evidence that they sought to use proxy servers to conseal the sony

attack. he also predicted that north korea would try to strike again. team clothing company wet seal says today it's shutting down about two third of the stores due to its dire financial condition. the retailer says 3700 full or part-time employees will lose their jobs. 338 stores in all will close effective today and that will leave 173 stores still up and running along with its online business. analysts say chains like wet seal have been hit by a decline in wall visits in recent years. a legal battle over beats by dr. dre is underway. the audio cable company monster has filed suit in san mateo court. monse sphr is suing jimmy and dr. dre. monster claim the two stole the audio engineering it designed
