magazine. just in the past 15 minutes, reports that the youngest of three terror suspects in the attack has surrendered to police. french police say three gunmen attacked a satirical magazine and killed 12 people early today. the gunmen were 34, 32, and 18 years old. again, we are getting reports the 18-year-old has apparently turned himself into police. as you can tell, the story is developing by the minute. we will bring you more information as get it. good evening, i'm gasia mikaelian in for julie haener. >> i'm frank somerville. new at 6:00, a man is accused of posing as a police officer on facebook and posting child pornography. and it may all have to do with a year-old criminal case. the santa cruz man has been arrested for impersonating a police officer and using his name to distribute child pornography on facebook. and police think that the officer was targeted after arresting the man last january. ktvu channel 2 news' ann rubin spoke to the suspect's family

about the unusual circumstances. >> reporter: initial arrest came almost a year ago. christopher shwety was accused of having child pornography of toddlers on his computer. >> it doesn't seem like his character and he claims the stuff was put on his computer he didn't know about. >> reporter: then time passed and his case kept getting delayed. his father believes that is the trigger for what happened next. he believes he created a facebook profile under the name of the police officer who arrested him and used it to distribute child pornography. >> he had an ax to grind. >> reporter: a detective in michigan discovered it. realized something wasn't right. >> when he made a couple of phone calls it became clear that it was a hoax and that the facebook profile was

fictitious. >> reporter: swuette was arrested at his home. >> we hope the truth prevails. if he has done the things he allegedly done, he has to answer to that. we tried to raise him to do the right thing, but he has some mental challenges. >> reporter: the family has tried to get him help, but he became fix sated on this case that would have gone to court later this month. >> he just was so stressed out from this whole thing that it drove him into ding some things he will be sorry for. >> reporter: he is being held on child pornography, impersonation, and stalking charges. bail is set at $250,000. ann rubin, ktvu channel 2 news. alameda county contracted measles while on a trip to disneyland. mike mibach is live in the news room. there are nine cases investigated here right? >> reporter: that's right. seven confirmed.

one who lives in alameda county. and two suspected cases. one of whom is in alameda county. measles is an airborne disease. because the epicenter is disneyland, officials are quite concerned. they say they believe those infected were at the theme parks between december 15th and the 20th. by tracking the current cases, the health department says it is likely that a person infected with measles was at one of the theme parks during these dates. the ages range from 8 months to 21 years old. two of those investigated live in utah. the deputy health officer for alameda county say one symptom is a rash and the person can be contagious from four days before it starts to four days after it starts. >> it is one of our most contagious diseases. it is airborne. we actually say even after an infectious person leaves the room, it could linger up to an hour or so after they leave.

>> and health officials say symptomming include, fever, cough, runny nose, and then the rash. it can sometimes lead to the inflammation of the brain. though it has largely disappeared in the united states since the year 2000, there were 62 confirmed cases right here in the state of california last year. >> thank you mike. a hate crime victim came face to face with her attacker today in a courtroom in san francisco. it was the first court appearance for the suspect who is facing several charges including attempted murder and hate crimes for an attack on a transgendered couple. ktvu channel 2 news' noelle walker was in the courtroom today and noelle walker is live now. >> reporter: the district attorney says his office takes these things very seriously. that a hate crime is not just an assault on the victim, but everyone and who we are as an

community. riding muni is a mundane experience for most people. but on saturday, a transgender couple had a life threatening experience on the number 49 bus. >> he immediately started saying you are not women. you are trying to defraud people by pretending to be women and you are attacking me by the way you are presenting yourselves. >> reporter: rae richie and her partner samantha got off the bus. >> he pulled a big steak knife out of his jacket. >> reporter: that suspect made his appearance today charged with attempted murder, assault. >> and she has to deal with two not very attractive scars. >> reporter: and hate crimes against rae and her partner. >> she was just going to die. >> behaviorally, this is unacceptable. >> reporter: the district attorney george gascon says if

convicted, the suspect could go to prison for a very long time. >> this is an assault on our entire community. our way of life. we want to make sure there are serious consequences. >> reporter: and fearing for their lives should not be a consequence of just riding the bus. >> majuro just want to go to lunch, but between you and lunch is someone who wants to kill you because of the way you look. >> reporter: rae's partner did not come to court today. reporting live in san francisco, noelle walker, ktvu channel 2 news, back to you. >> thank you noelle. a santa cruz police officer was taken to the hospital after what could only be described as a strange attack. he pulled a stranger off his motorcycle and attacked the officer who tried to take him into custody. that sparked a three block long chase in which the suspect was tazed several timesment he was finally arrested at a museum in

monterrey. the officer suffered some injuries who toban his face and head. they are still looking for the man on the motorcycle. >> at this point, we would like to motorcyclist to come forward. it will help with the overall investigation. at this point, the motorcyclist didn't stop and doesn't know this whole thing took place. >> the suspect also suffered minor injuries and was taken to the hospital as a precaution. a california lawmaker has introduced a bill to create a third party review of police shootings. sacramento democrat kevin mcarthy authored the bill in the wake of controversial police killings like michael brown in ferguson and eric garner in new york. the goal is to increase trust for the public and law enforcement. >> it isn't about pointing fingers. at the end of the day if there is a tragedy with an officer

involved shooting and a fatality. the idea is that it should be an unbiased source. >> the bill would create an independent outside panel to study and officer involved killing and issue recommendations to district attorneys. we are now just a little more than two days away from the golden gate bridge closure this weekend to install a new movable barrier. we met some of the new bridge workers who will be trained to drive the zipper trucks. the barrier has to be picked up and placed by the driver in the bunt and the barrier setter in the back. these are the same men and women who pick up and plug back in the plastic pylons. >> very different from plugging and pulling. when you are plugging and pulling, cars are coming very close to you. whizzing by you at 45 miles an hour. >> it is definitely a move up from sitting in the bucket as we call it. >> the drivers each spent 40 hours in the trucks training. the bridge closes to traffic a minute past midnight saturday

crisis in san francisco. but as ktvu channel 2 news' rob roth tells us, the owner of the sullivan funeral home is getting ready to sell the building. >> reporter: it is not often that a funeral home becomes an icon to a neighborhood, but that is what happened with sullivan in the castro. the owner is in the process of selling the building on market street. >> it is time to retire. >> reporter: sullivans opened in 1924 but it is what it did in the early 1980s that many people will northeast remember. aids had become a plague in san francisco. sullivan became one of the first funeral homes to accept the casualties of the disease. >> you had fear. fear of the unknown because you didn't know. but we always accepted whenever came to our door. >> reporter: long time district wayne friday remembers losing many friends to aids. >> i lost count a long time ago. >> reporter: and going to their

funerals in sullivans. >> they accepted it as part of the community. >> there was so much stigma associated with having this disease and certainly dying from it that it was comforting to people that there was some place where they could find acceptance. >> reporter: jim sullivan is working on selling the building to a developer who plans on billing housing units and stores on the property. sullivan calls it progress. but looking back on the aids crisis, he said he did nothing noble, just his job. >> the main thing was to help the families and we did that. >> reporter: jim sullivan expects to close the doors for good some time before the end of the year. when he does go, a sad but important part of san francisco will leave with him. in san francisco, rob roth, ktvu channel 2 news. police arrested a woman today suspected of setting fire to the iconic san francisco house that appeared in the movie mrs. doubtfire. arson investigators were at the
