for a record-setting yesterday, the temperature will be cooling today s. gilroy was 73. oakland 71. not today. we are seeing low 40s and 50s right now. is santa cruz mountains are amazingly warm. upper 60s yesterday and today the low 60s. a hazy day with the higher clouds in here. 40s and 50s on the temps. about a week ago we were in the 20s. not anymore the system will give us partly cloudy skies. look at how cold it is for much of the country, all the way down to the keep south, florida and northeast. for us partly cloudy skys in the morning. higher clouds and cooler high temperatures, not as breezy. that has collapsed. 60s on the temps. we saw the flat bed truck coming in. they are making little progress here. >> this happened after 3:00. there is an overturned truck on 580 westbound near foothill

which is first exit past the 680 interchange. these are live pictures. they have 20 unload the beer -- they have to unload the beer in the overturned truck. i want to say the driver only suffered minor injuries. these are cans of coors and pbr that they have to get out of there. then they have to right the truck to get it out of there. it will a while. one of the things we found out recently, there will be another four hour closure called by chp. just before 10:00 is when the lanes should be reopened. sometimes they are conservative with their estimates. we are hoping that is the case, but right now this morning commute on 580 is a mess. i will show it to you here. 580, the accident is right about here. let me put the icon on it for you. it is right about here. you can see the slow traffic

building up, pretty much solid from livermore all the way through. i don't think it will change because the truck will be there for a bit. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza, backed up for a 25 minute drive into san francisco. the time is 6:03. now back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. new this morning there are fear that is islamic militants may have struck again in france. a police woman stopped to investigate a traffic accident in paris when someone opened fire and killed her. investigators say it is too early to tell if this shooting is connected to a charlie hebdo massacre, but the gunman core a bullet-proof vest, all black and had an assault rifle. a couple hours ago french special forces have been sent to the scene. we have new video of this late development. alex? >> pam, good morning to you.

police may be closing in on the two men suspected of carrying out yesterday's attack. according to reports they were spotted outside of paris where they robbed a gas station. straight to video in the newsroom of the gas station in the northeast part of france, surrounded by police and crime scene tape. according to one report two men who matched the descriptions of those wanted gunmen stole food and gas from the station and they may have even fired shots before making their get away. this is all part of a huge manhunt going on across france for the two brothers from france. the two are known to authorities. one spent time in prison for being part of a jihaddist recruitment ring but it is unclear if they had ties to recent trough groups. a number of people have been detained as part of the investigation. also overnight an 18-year-old man may be connected to the

yesterday trough attacks at the offices of charlie hebdo turped himself into police. but now, the very real threat of more attacks. >> we are ready to face it and we will fight, getting them to jail. [church bells ringing] >> thursday has been declared a national day of mourning in france. the country's president attended a ceremony for the victims. at noon bells rang out another the notre dame cathedral in paris and people observed a moment of silence in honor of the 12 people killed in the brazen act of terror yesterday. last night all around the world vigils were held and demonstrators made it clear attacks like this will not silence free speech.

with the u.s. department of labor. here is a picture of a message drawn in the oil slick near the 747's tail. it says bye bye and the there are images of two faces, one happy and the flight attendant perceive thed the other to have a -- perceived the other to have a troubling compression. according to a complaint -- troubling expression. the 13 flight attendants with united airlines refused to fly when united would not deplane passengers and conduct a security screening of the aircraft. they were fired for insubordination. united is defending itself and maintained it investigated appropriately and determined there was no credible threat. a spokesperson says the pilots, mechanics and safety employees deemed the plane safe to fly. these former flight attendants are asking to be reinstated with back pay and to be compensated for damages.

dave? >> janay, thank you. our time is now 6:08. a woman suspected of starting a fire at the famous mrs. doubtfire house in fran is now under arrest. on monday two small fires were sent on the front steps and garage of this house made famous in the movie starring robin williams. police arrested 25-year-old tywon welsh at the house. the person who owns the house is a doctor that performs transgender surgeries and welsh was a former patient. state health officials have linked nine confirmed cases of measles to disney theme parks in southern california. they all visited disney or the adventure theme park between december 15th and 20th. the patients range from age from 8 months to 21 years old.

one of them is from alameda county. a county health officer says measles can be contagious before and after a rash appears. >> it with one of those contagious diseases. it is airborne. we say even after an infectious person leaves the room it could be lingering for up to an hour or so after they leave. >> six of the nine patients were not vaccinated including two babies too young to have received their first shot. six people facing serious charges in sacramento, accused of being part of a major cocaine ring. a worker at enterprise car rental found a box filled with 45-pounds of cocaine while cleaning out the trunk of a returned car. the san francisco investigation team launched an undercover operation.

. welcome back to ktvu morning news on 2. it is 6:14. san francisco planning a major shift of police resources to replace ample coverage around the city. people are now living in areas once industrial wastelands, especially in the south market and mission bay neighborhoods. the police submission is looking at redrawing the lines of the ten police districts to try to better serve the shifting population. >> the districts were originally set up over 20 years

ago. there was the anticipation of the immense neighborhood that would grow in the south market and mission bay. >> now the southern police station is expected to relocate to mission bay and the tenderloin police station would expand to include the westfield center. a series of town hall meeting mrs. held over the next three months -- meetings will be held over the next three months to get community feedback. and a police department trying to boost the spirit of inner city kids and encourage them to turn in their toy guns. last night the three wise men toy give away was sponsored in the fruitevale district. low income children in the neighborhood were receiving toys if they turned in a toy gun, getting an educational toy in exchange. >> we are recognizing our children, our young people and families. we are sharing with them some of the gifts, toys and educational materials. >> those toys were donated by

restaurant at california and larkins streets will be closed after a accident. a car drove into a window of the restaurant. the driver of the pickup truck tried to make an illegal turn, and ended up hitting a mini cooper, pushing it through the window. both drivers. >> reporter: treated at the hospital. a statewide ban of foie grais has been overturned. state law has barred restaurants in california from importing or serving the product since 2012. advocates of the ban say foie grais is cruel because it involves force feeding ducks and geese to enlarge their livers but a u.s. distribute judge ruled the ban is unconstitutional because it interferes with federal law. the san jose hayes market is one of the places planning to serve foie grais as soon as they can. >> it is magically appears on menus in restaurants.

into san francisco. if you are on 880 getting to the bay bridge near or in the oakland area, the traffic is moving along nicely in both directions. 880 north and south and 580 westbound heading up to the maze. now to the live picture. steve mentioned the overturned beer truck carrying tall boys, coors lite and pbr, has is two right lanes blocked. the driver was driving along on westbound 580 and had a coughing attack and passing out. that is no joke. i have had coughing attacks in the past where it has been pretty severe. driving a big rig. he passed at and ended up on the shoulder and suffered minor injuries. these two right lane will be blocked until 10:00 this morning or a little bit before as they have to clear the beer and also right the truck. 6:33. back to the desk. >> sal, thank you. new this morning the french government warning citizens,

now, prepare for more attacks by israel islamic militants. earlier today a french police woman was shot and killed. she was at the scene of a traffic accident in southern paris when a gunman opened fire. the shooter was dressed similar to the gunman that shot and killed 12 people yesterday on the attack on the magazine office yesterday in paris. investigators say it is too early to know if today's shooting didn't is connected in any way to yesterday's terror -- shooting is connected in any way to yesterday's terror attack. now the shooting at the charlie hebdo offices is shifting. >> yes. police this morning have converged on a small village northeast of paris where two men suspected of carrying out yesterday's attack were spotted at a gas station.

area has joined the rest of the world in offering condolences. the memorial set up outside the french consulate in san francisco. about 200 people gathered for a vigil there standing in solidarity for the french people. the mourners held pens over their heads, showing support for the journalists killed. in san mateyo two car burglary suspects are in custody after police locked down a neighborhood overnight looking for them. witnesses saw two men run from the scene of a car burglary before 7:30 last night on south fremont street. one of the men appeared to be carrying a gun reportly. police closed off several blocks and ordered people living in the area to stay inside. one suspect was arrested last night and the other was taken into custody several hours later. the red cross opened a relief shelter for people unable to return to homes because of the police search. six families in pittsburg are back in their homes after a scare involving a union pacific

rail car. worker suspecting a train this ised a leak from one of the cars. since they contain highly flamable butane they called for help. they took samples of the oily substance leak from the car and determined it was oil. the u.s. olympic committee has something new to consider this morning when they decide which city to choose as a candidate to host the 2024 olympics. ktvu tara moriarty is live in bay. you say san francisco organizers are organizing a new project in oakland to try and sweeten the deal. what is going on? >> reporter: well, it is an idea that definitely has football fans here fired up, driving out the black and silver pom poms. the idea would be to build a new stadium in oakland, one that would be the future home of the oakland raiders. this proposal delivered by the mayor of san francisco and oakland area. the bid would include the new stadium for opening and closing

ceremonies, as well as track and field events. the olympics may provide the push and additional funding to get this deal that has been prosed for years to get it done. >> i think it would be great to bring the city back to the glory it used to hold. to have us be breathing new light again, even in our sports team, would be a fabulous asset to the city of oakland. >> reporter: the original bid was to have a $350 million temporary stadium in brisbane serve as a venue that would be torn down afterwards. it could still happen if the other proposals don't washing out. los angeles, boston and washington, d.c. are all competing for the u.s. bid and which ever one is chosen will square off with paris, rome and berlin. >> yow.

six. welcome back to the morning news. a new york city police officer wounded in a shooting monday night received a hero's reception after he was released from the hospital. [ applause ] well, that is officer aliro pellerano greeted by fellow officers yesterday when he checked out of the bronx hospital. he and another officer were shot while chasing two robbery suspects.

>> it is a difficult time. it is a time when family comes together and the nypd blue of every rank is here to say good luck to you. we are behind you. but more importantly, we are behind every new york city police officer that is serving the citizens. >> now, the other officer remains hospitalized in stable condition. one suspect was caught after carjacking a camry and crashing it while attempting to escape. the other suspect was arrested when he went to the hospital to seek treatment. former flight attendants now suing united airlines trying to get their johns back. all -- jobs back. that all stemming from something scrawled in oil at sfo. janay, what do you know? >> reporter: these united airlines flight attendants did not want to leave sfo after they learned there was something drawn on their plane that they perceived as threatening. one traveler we spoke with says

out of -- the two men died when they got out of their cars. one man was hit when he was trying to help other people hurt. the other man was badly hurt when thrown into the staring wheel of his car -- steering wheel of his car, then died when getting out to look for his kids. the children, by the way, are okay. well, dangerously cold weather is sweeping across the country today. 87% of the country, the national weather servicecys, is freezing. it is about zero in areas from the northeast to the south. in chicago it is ridiculous, about 5 degrees below zero this morning. the windchill is even lower. it is so cold in indiana, well, steve look at the screen. the firefighters, this is their equipment, covered in ice! they are trying to put out a fire that damaged three houses. their hats, gloves and equipment, even their radio,

iced over. they had to use hand signals to communicate with each other as they battled this fire in zero degree weather. fortunately no one was hurt. san francisco prosecutors have now added hate crime charges against a man accused of stabbing a transgender woman. the 54-year-old suspect entered a not guilty plea yesterday. his victim came face to faye with him in court. police say a transgender couple was riding a muni bus saturday when a man singled them out and started harassing them, then stabbed one of them with a steak knife after they got off the bus. it is the now being called a hate crime. >> when you have a crime like this, it is not just an assault on the individual but an assault on the entire community. >> imagine, all you want to do is go to lunch, yet between you and lunch someone wants to kill you because of the way you look. >> the da says the hate crime

enhancement may only add a little time to a sentence but the bigger impact is in the statement it makes. big cosby continues to perform in canada, even as three more women accuse him of sexual assault. mr. cosby reportly thanked a crowd at a theater in ontario last night telling them he had, and i am quoting, a wonderful time. no disruptions inside the venue. there were a small group of protestors chanting outside. more than 20 women have accused big cosby of sexual assault. some say they were drugged and raped. cosby lawyers deny the accusations, accusing at least one of the women of extortion. demonstrations are planned at the remaining two shows of cosby in canada. this is the story people will be talking about today. a san diego woman received quite a surprise at work.
