a last-minute bid for the san francisco olympics has raiders fans fired up. we will explain why next. plus, 13 flight attendants fired for what they did after finding a strange image right here on a plane that was leaving from sfo. how they are now fighting back. "mornings on 2" begins right now. it's been a rough commute for many drivers in the east bay along westbound 580. early this morning a big rig carrying beer overturned near pleasanton, as you can see in this live picture. they are starting to offload all of that cargo, but it's going to take a while. ktvu's sal casteneda is monitoring the story and traffic problems it's causing. he will tell us why it's taking so long to clear the scene. welcome to "mornings on 2". i am tori campbell. >> good morning, tori. i am dave clark.

let's talk about weather and traffic. a little chilly outside. steve has the forecast. >> a little change from yesterday. record-setting were warm temps. we will not be that way today. still on the mild side. instead of 70s. only make 60s. mostly cloudy. the lows could come up. there is still a few 30s out there. or up there. yeah, out there. up there there is more 60s. hazy. high clouds. a little bit cooler. mainly clouds in the morning then a break until the next part of the system comes in friday into saturday. that will give us a bigger cool-down and more clouds. 40s and 50s. some of the higher elevations in the mid 50s to a few 60s. it's 40. same for foster city. belmont with a balmy 51. our system will swing in here. that's going to give us more of a westerly breeze. hints of that, even though we have a slight offshore for a few. it will not be as strong yesterday. we get cooler high temps.

not as breezy. hazy skies. 60s on the temps. all morning long, sal, that overturned truck. any improvement here? there is a little improvement, if you could call it that, because they are unloading the beer from the truck that flipped over on its side at about 3:00 this morning. they have to unload the beer and put it in another truck and get it out of there and then right the truck. this is westbound 580 near foothill. the freeway is down to three lanes. that's why traffic is so bad in the livermore valley. there is one solid line of slow traffic. we got information from the chp that the driver had a coughing attack and lost control of the truck. minor injuries for that driver. but a big problem for the morning commute. in case you're wondering, it's coors light and pbr because people have been asking. at the bay bridge toll plaza, the traffic is going to be moderate. about a 20-minute delay getting

into san francisco with no major problems. if you are driving into santa clara valley, northbound 280 is slow. you can see it there coming out of downtown. 85 as well. and 101. we don't have any crashes, but we just have a lot of slow traffic as you drive through. 7:03. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. continuing coverage now of the paris terror attack. at this hour french special forces have swarmed a village in northern france after reports that the two terror suspects were seen robbing a gas station earlier today. ktvu's alex savidge with more. >> reporter: anti-terrorism police officers have a zeroed in on that small village northeast of paris this morning where those two men suspected of carrying out yesterday's attack were spotted at a gas station. let me show you some new video just into the newsroom of that station where investigators are collecting evidence. there could also be surveillance video from that store as well. according to one report, two men matching the descriptions of

the wanted gunmen stole food and gas from the station and may have fired some shots before making their getaway. a manhunt, of course, is underway across france for saeed and shareef. brothers from france. they are known to authorities and the younger of them, in fact, spent time in prison for being part of a jihaddist recruit. ring. it's unclear if the pair had any recent ties to terror groups. that is being investigated. overnight an 18-year-old man who may have been connected to yesterday's terror attacks at "the office" of charlie hebdo, the newspaper, turned himself in to police. but france, of course, remains on edge this morning with the two prime suspects, the two suspected gunmen, still on the loose. there is the real threat of more attacks. >> may be facing a new wave. it's probably not the end of a terror attack. we are ready to face it. we will fight. and fighting is aiming the

people, getting them to jail. >> reporter: and thursday has been declared a national day of mourning in france. that country's president attended a ceremony for the victims. and at noon the bells rang out at the notre dame cathedral in paris as people observed a moment of silence in honor of the 12 people killed in yesterday's terror attack. this was the scene outside of charlie hebdo offices where candles and you flowers line the streets there. people have come to pay tribute to the victims. by the way, we are getting word this morning that the satirical weekly up in that was the focus of this attack will be publishing an issue next week. again, though, the two gunmen wanted for yesterday's attack remain on the run this morning. they have been spotted, tori, in a small french village right now, and police appear to be closing in on them potentially. we will keep an eye on things. >> we will check back with you in an hour for an update. also new this morning,

there are fears that islamic melts have struck again in france. a policewoman was shot and killed earlier today. she stopped to investigate a traffic accident in southern paris when someone opened fire. investigators say it's too early to tell if this shoot something connected to the charlie hebdo attack. witnesses say the gunman wore a bullet proof vest and carried a handgun and assault rifle. we have a slide show of photos from vigils held around the world on our website. 7:07. happening today the u.s. olympic committee will choose its candidate to compete with other cities around the world to host the 2024 summer olympics. now, four u.s. cities, including san francisco, are in the running. ktvu's tara moriarty is live in the east bay. this story gets bigger and bigger. you say a last-minute boost to the local bid is making oakland raider fans very excited?

>> reporter: yeah, football fans are cheering. that's because the idea is to build a stadium in oakland for the olympics. one that would become the future home, permanent home for the oakland raiders. >> black and silver! i am going to go home and put my raider hat on and yell go raiders! go oakland! go bay area! >> reporter: fans getting pretty fired up there. the announcement came yesterday from the mayors of both san francisco and oakland. the pair told the united states olympic committee the bid would include a new stadium for opening and closing ceremonies as well as track and field events. they have been trying for years to iron out a new stadium deal, and the olympics may provide just the push of additional funding to get it done. >> it will be good. like there will be bringing more people coming around here because there is a lot of raider fans. >> reporter: the original bid was to have a $350 million temporary or pop-up stadium in brisbane serve as the venue.

that would come down right afterwards. it could still happen if the oakland proposal doesn't work out. now, the other american cities being considered los angeles, boston, and washington, d.c. and whichever one is chosen will face off against paris, berlin, as well as rome, just to name a few. tara moriarty. back to you. >> talk to you later. time is now 7:09. the woman suspected of starting that fire at the "mrs. doubtfire" house in san francisco, she is under arrest. two small fires were set on monday night on the front steps and at the garage of the house made famous in that house that stored robin williams. police arrested 25-year-old taiwan welsh in san jose yesterday morning. they say the owner of the house is a doctor who specializes in transgender surgeries and that welsh was his former patient. she was booked on several charges, including arson and attempted murder. california health officials have now linked nine confirmed cases of measles to disney

theme parks in southern california. all nine measles patients were at disneyland or disney's california adventure between december 15 and december 20th. three more people with suspected cases of measles, they also grab -- were at those parks during that period. the patients are between 8 months and 21 years old. one of them is from alameda county. the county health officials say measles can be contagious before and after you actually see a rash. >> our most contagious diseases. it is airborne. we actually say that even after an infectious person leaves the room, it could be lingering for another up to an hour or so after they leave. >> i never knew that. now, six of the nine patients were not vaccinated, including two babies. they were just too young to get their first measles shots. it is 7:10. six people are now facing serious charges in sacramento accused of being part of a major cocaine transportation ring.

federal agents say the drug smuggling operation was discovered after a worker for enterprise car rental found a box filled with 45 pounds of cocaine while cleaning out the trunk of a returned car. the sacramento sheriff's drug enforcement team launched an undercover operation and tracked the woman who had last rented the car. the investigation led to six arrests and an additional 130 pounds of cocaine was seized. the state's court system misused millions of tax dollars according to a new report on the state's financial management. they are questioning $30 million of spending in the last four years by the administrative office of the courts. according to the auditor, the court system paid ten staff members more than the governor. it also had 200 cellphones and a fleet of 66 vehicles that lacked documentation about how they were used. >> compared them to some of the

it is coming up on 7:15. san francisco is planning a major shift of police resources to reflect changing population centers in the city. construction cranes dot the san francisco skyline. a sign of the city's development boom. people are now living in areas that were once industrial wastelands, especially in the south of market and mission bay neighborhoods. the police commission is looking at redrawing the lines of its ten police districts to try to better serve the shifting population. >> the districts were originally set up over 20 years ago. there wasn't necessarily anticipation of the immense neighborhood that was going to grow south of market and mission bay.

>> the southern police station is expected to relocate to mission bay and the tenderloin police station would expand to include the westfield center. a series of town hall meetings will be held over the next three months to get community feedback. the oakland a's may have lost to a teenage entrepreneur. the a's have announced they will no longer sell these shirts with the word stoked on the front. that's after 16-year-old ryan prigo accused the baseball team of infringing on his brand name. the teenager first printed the words on clothes he designed in 2012. he says he did it to promote oakland. the aase say there was some misunderstanding that all unsold a's stoked shirts will now be destroyed. if you your high school student suddenly tells you i want to go to college in kentucky, i may know the reason why. video games are now an official sport at a liberal arts college in kentucky, and starting this fall the university of

scary stuff. but 580 is going to be affected. the two right lanes are closed as they unload this beer truck onto other trucks. they have to get the beer -- which mostly, by the way, did not spill. it remained intact. it was in cans on pallets. so they have to get it out. as you can see the live picture, they are doing it. by the way, it was coors light and pbr in tall boy cans, because people want to know. but 580 is really a mess all the way back to the livermore area. can you see how slow it is. it's solid. this is no joke. but if you happen to get on the freeway after the crash, you are going to see lighter than usual conditions. let's talk about contra costa county. slow traffic on lafayette westbound 24. and also in the south bay we are seeing slow traffic on 280, 85, and 101. even though we haven't had any major crashes, definitely a lot of slow traffic getting into the valley. this is a look at the bay bridge toll plaza. that's a 20 to 25-minute drive

a complaint with the u.s. department of labor and in it, it has details about a drawing discovered on a jet last july and the flight attendants felt it was threatening. here is a picture of a message drawn in the oil slick near its tail. it says bye-bye, and there is images of two faces. one happy. and the flight attendants perceived the other to have a troubling expression. next to the head are a down motion or splash in the water. according to the complaint filed with, the 13 flight attendants refused to fly when united would not deplane passengers and conduct a security screening of the aircraft for explosives. they were fired for insubordination. some travelers question why united was so quick to let the employees go. >> i feel like they overshot in firing way too early. i think it's reasonable for someone to sneak on a plane or

paint something on the side to raise questions. but nothing to the extent of firing people for trying to protect the people. >> reporter: united airlines is defending itself and says the security sweep was done before the drawings were discovered and additional security checks were done after. the airline maintained that it investigated appropriately and determined there was no credible threat. a spokesperson says the pilots, mechanics, and safety employees deemed the plane safe to fly. the flight attendants are asking for their jobs back and compensation for damages. dave. >> thank you. time is now 7:34. we have new video this morning to show you of divers examining the tail section of that airasia jet. the one that crashed into the java sea last month. now, look at this. they are hoping to find the black boxes which they think are still attached to the tail of the plane. now, because of the debris being partially buried and the strong currents out there in the java sea the divers couldn't

actually retrieve anything today. they are going to try again tomorrow using balloons or a crane. meantime, four more bodies were recovered today. that brings the number of bodies recovered to 44 out of the 162 people who were on that plane. back here at home in san mateo two car burglary suspects are in custody after police locked down the neighborhood overnight searching for them. witnesses saw two men running from the scene of a car burglary before 7:30 last night on south fremont street. reportedly, one of the men appeared to be carrying a gun. now, police closed off several blocks. they ordered people in the area to stay inside. the first suspect arrested identified as walter mitchell. the other suspect's name has not been released. he was taken into custody several hours later. the red cross opened up a relief shelter for people who weren't able to go back to their homes because of that police search. six families in pittsburg are back in their homes this

morning, but that's after a scare that involved a union pacific railcar. last night workers inspecting the trains saw a leak from one of the cars. since the tankers carry highly flammable butane the workers called the fire department for help. firefighters took samples of the oily substance leaking from the car and they determined it was only oil. >> ran a test of that sample and it came back to be lubricating oil, which is not really hazardous in this kind of quantity. >> six homes were evacuated while the firefighters conducted the test. the people were allowed to go back to their homes around 8:00. it is 7:36. a new york city police officer wounded in a shooting monday night received a hero's reception after he was released from the hospital. [ applause ] >> he was greet bid fellow -- greeted by fellow officers yesterday when he checked out

to find new doctors because of a dispute between blue shield and sitter health. a contract between the two healthcare giants expired january 1 and right now both sides are at an impasse. if they don't reach an agreement by june, 280,000 blue shield customers are going to have to switch doctors or pay the out-of-network price. >> stressful because even if it's six months down the line, i still have to figure out where are we going to go. >> blue shield says sutter's prices are 30% higher than other hospitals. sutter is blaming the affordable care act and they say its prices are only up 10%. sutter operates 23 hospitals in northern california with about 5,000 doctors in that network. time is 7:38. today is another spare the air day. it's the seventh straight day. the bay area air quality management district says more alerts could be called through

are free climbing the length of the dawn wall of el capitan. they don't use any climbing equipment and only have a rope for safety. georgian son posted on scramble he is at one of the toughest parts. caldwell successfully completed that section on monday and is forging ahead. >> what they are doing is they are doing what they call pitches, which is portions of their climb, and they are doing these throughout the day and going from one to the next. the men began their climb on december 27. they sleep in a hanging tent along the rock face. they have internet access that's actually quite good at that part of yosemite. they also have food and coffee. well, two bay area teenagers are making it possible for girls in need to get new clothing and accessories. pam cook joins us in studio to tell us about the impressive program these young ladies started. >> reporter: it's called what's mine is yours.

it started -- the non-profit start bid two local teenagers. katie easterly and paige blake are 17. for two years they have been collecting clothing and accessories and distributing them through non-profits and social workers and foster homes. the girls who need something write down their sizes and what kind of styles they like and katie and paige put together outfits and send them off. they said looking good helps you feel good about yourself. >> see how an outfit can be so empowering. we have dressing rooms at our events. we watched some of the girls come out and they have the biggest smile, whether it be they found the dress they love or coat that fits them perfectly. >> this program is gaining some serious attention. in fact, the toothpaste company tom's of maine gave the girls a $10,000 grant to buy more clothing. you can donate to them as well. they have details of what they would like, what they need, and what they will accept on their website. >> very cool. thank you, pam. time is 7:41.

this 18-vehicle pile-up during a blinding snowstorm. as many as eight big rigs were involved in the collision. the two men died when they got out of their cars. one man was hit. he was trying to help some of the other people who were hurt. the other man who was badly injured when he was thrown into the steering wheel of his car, well, he died of his injuries when he got out to look for his kids who had been thrown out of the car. the kids are okay. bill cosby's performances in canada continue even as three more women accuse him of sexual assault. last night cosby reportedly thanked the audience at a theater in ontario telling them he had a wonderful time. there were no disruptions inside the theater, but a small group of protesters were chanting outside. more than 20 women have accused cosby of sexual assault. some say they were drugged and raped. cosby's lawyers deny the accusations and accused at least one of the women of extortion. demonstrations are planned at bill cosby's two remaining

8:03. back to the desk. >> thank you, sal. the eiffel tower will go dark tonight as part of a day of mourning for the victims of a terror attack. french police believe the two gunmen responsible for the attack also robbed a gas station in northern france earlier this morning. ktvu's alex savidge in the newsroom where he is following the manhunt for these two terror suspects. >> reporter: good morning. a house to house search is happening in a small french village northeast of paris as police work to track down those two men suspected of carrying out yesterday's attack. they were spotted in that area earlier in the day. according to one report, two men matching the descriptions of the wanted gunmen stole food and gas from this station. they may have seen fired shots before making their getaway. now authorities are trying to find said handshake.

from vigils held around the world. new this morning, there are fears that islamic militants have struck in france. a policewoman was shot and killed earlier today. she stopped to investigate a traffic accident in southern paris when someone opened fire. investigators say it's too early to tell if this shoot something connected to yesterday's attack. but witnesses say the gunman wore all black like the charlie hebdo attackers. the gunman also wore a bullet proof vest and carried a handgun and assault rifle. 8:07. gun sales really went up at the end of 2014 according to the fbi. the fbi says there were more than 2.3 million background checks for gun sales last month. that's up 300,000 from december 2013. the background checks are considered the most reliable measure of gun sales. the fbi says during the first nine months of 2014 there were about 1.5 million background checks a month. and gun sales went up a lot in

october, novato, and -- november and december. two small fires were set on the front steps and the house of the garage of the house that was made famous in the movie starring robin williams, "mrs. doubtfire." police arrested a man yesterday morning. they say the owner of the house is a doctor who specializes in transgender surgeries and that welsh was his former patient. she was booked on several charges, including arson and attempted murder. state health officials have linked nine confirmed cases of measles to disney theme parks in southern california. all nine patients visited disneyland or disney's california adventure in anaheim between december 15 and 20th. three more people with suspected cases of measles also visited the parks during that time. the patients range in age from 8 months to 21 years old.

francisco is planning a major shift of police resources to reflect changing population centers in the city. construction cranes dot the san francisco skyline. a sign of the city's development boom. people are now living in areas that were once industrial wasteland. especially in the south of market and mission bay neighborhoods. the police commission is looking at redrawing the lines of its ten police districts to try to better serve the shifting population. >> the police districts are originally set up over 20 years

ago. there wasn't necessarily anticipation of the immense neighborhood that was going to grow south of market and mission bay. >> the southern police station is expected to relocate to mission bay and the tenderloin police station could expand to include the westfield center. a series of town hall meetings will be held over the next three months to get community feedback. your time is 8:26. there is a new report that says california's court system misused millions of tax dollars. now, this is according to a new report on the court's financial management. the state auditor is questioning $30 million in spending in the last four years by the administrative office of the courts. according to the auditor, the court system paid ten of its staff more than the governor. it also had 200 cellphones and a fleet of 66 vehicles that lacked documentation about how they were used. >> compared them to some of the two other states court

about. it just happened moments ago. northbound 280 right near winchester there is a brand-new crash. it's right there on the maps. you can see traffic is slow approaching the crash. two lanes are blocked. but if you could put up 280, i just added this, if you could put up 280 and san jose right now you will see that 280 in san jose, i am looking at it off camera, downtown san jose is not bad. in fact, you can see -- i just want you to see this now because i think in a few minutes this is going to change. rather unfortunately. northbound 280 at winchester an injury crash. fire department, medics on the way. two lanes are blocked. the truck crash we have been talking about all morning remains there. westbound 580. a truck that was loaded down with 44,000 pounds of beer cans. still on its side. they have to unload all the beer. then they have to right the truck. it will be about 10:00. they are making good progress, but still slow traffic out of the livermore valley.

and if you are driving to the bay bridge toll plaza it's cleared out. a 10 to 15-minute drive into the city. back to the desk. former united airlines flight attendants are suing the airline hoping to get their jobs back. they say they were fired after raising a red flag about a bizarre drawing left on a plane at sfo. ktvu's janine de la vega at sfo with a series of events that led up to this lawsuit. >> reporter: these united flight attendants did not want to leave sfo after they discovered that there was a message on their plane that they felt was threatening. the message was found last july on a 747. here is a picture of what it looked like. someone had written the words bye-bye on the aircraft near the tail and drew two faces. one happy. the other what the flight attendants describe as a menacing expression. then lines drawn down like

splashes in the water. according to a complaint filed with the occupational and safety health administration they refused to fly when they would not conduct a security screening of the aircraft for explosives. the 13 flight attendants were fired for insubordination. >> i would have taken the same actions that the flight attendants did. it's odd for an airline to not defend someone for trying to protect their passengers or protect their customers. >> reporter: united airlines is defending itself and says a security sweep was done before the drawings were discovered and additional security checks were done after. the airline maintains it investigated appropriately and determined there was no credible threat. a spokesperson says the pilots, mechanics, and safety employees deemed the plane safe to fly. the flight attendants are asking for their jobs back and compensation for damages. back to you. >> thank you. time is 8:34. in san mateo two car burglary

suspects are in custody after police locked down a neighborhood overnight searching for them. witnesses saw two men running from the scene of a car burglary around 7:30 last night on south fremont street. witnesses say one. men appeared to have a gun. now, police closed off several blocks. they ordered people in the area to stay inside. the first suspect arrested is identified as walter mitchell. the other suspect whose name was not released, he was arrested several hours later. the red cross opened up a relief shelter for people who weren't able to go back to their homes because of that police search. time is 8:34. six people now facing very serious charges in sacramento. they are accused of being a part of a major cocaine transportation ring. federal agents say the drug smuggling operation was discovered after a worker for enterprise car rental found a box filled with 45 pounds of cocaine as he was cleaning out the trunk of a returned car. the sacramento sheriff's drug

enforcement team launched an undercover operation. they tracked the woman who had last rented the car. the investigation led to six arrests and an additional 130 pounds of cocaine was seized. six families in pittsburg are back in their homes this morning, but that's after a scare involving a union pacific railcar. last night workers inspecting the trains noticed a leak from one of the cars. and since the tankers carry highly flammable butane workers called the fire department for help. firefighters took samples of the oily substance that was leaking from the car and they determined it was only oil. >> we ran a test of that sample and it came back to be lubricating oil, which is not really hazardous in this kind of quantities. >> six homes were evacuated, though, while firefighters were conducting the tests. residents were allowed to return to their homes around 8:00. two bay area teenagers are making it possible for girls in need to get new clothes and

accessories. katie easterlily and peyton manning blake are both 17. they started the non-profit called what's mine is yours. for two years they have been collecting clothes and accessories and then distributing them through non-profit groups, social workers, and foster homes. the girls who need clothes write down their sizes and what kind of styles they like and the teens find specific clothes for them. . >> we have watched some of the girls come out and they have the biggest smile, whether it be they found the dress they love or coat that fits them perfectly. >> tom's of maine just gave the girls' non-profit a $10,000 grant to buy more clothes. >> i love that story. great young ladies into time is 8:37. today is the seventh straight spare the air day. the bay area air quality management district says there may be more alerts through the weekend. district officials say wood smoke makes up 40% of air

pollution this time of the year, and that is why burning wood or any solid fuel in the fireplace, a pellet stove or a fire pit, it's banned again today. >> many people are upset about not being able to burn, but many more are upset about not being able to breathe. we are required to meet federal health standards or we can actually lose our high funding. >> we are talking about a lot of federal money. $9.5 billion in federal transportation money for the bay area is at risk if we don't meet federal air quality standards. now, if you get caught burning wood during a spare the air alert you have to pay a $100 fine or go to a class for a first offense. the second offense could mean a $500 ticket. some bay area restaurants are already planning to put foie gras back on their menus now that a state ban has been overturned. since 2012, state law has barred restaurants in california from importing or serving the

and distributing other child porn images. 31-year-old christopher schuette was first arrested in january of last year. investigators say last month he set up a facebook page using the name of the police officer who arrested him. he then reportedly used that facebook page to distribute images. now, schuette's father says his son was anxious about the initial charges and became fixated on the case. >> he has done some things that he has allegedly done, why, he has to answer for that. we have tried to raise him to do the right thing. but he has some mental challenges. he has had it all through school. >> now, police say they found more child pornography at schuette's home. he is being held on charges of child pornography, impersonation and stalking. two women, co-founders of a pr and marketing firm in san diego, received quite a surprise at work. when stephanie lochsa went to
