their homes for a new housing development. ktvu's cristina rendon is live with more on why they are investigating. >> reporter: hud is investigating because they filed a complaint against the city. the city says they have done everything and more they are required to help these families but they feel differently. >> reporter: these homes near the b.a.r.t. station sit on prime real estate. for the last 25 years a number of latinofullys have been -- families -- latino families have been renting here. >> i don't want to think about it. frustrated. >> the families filed a complaint claiming discrimination by the city for not providing information or holding meetings in spanish. >> reporter: this man says they never understood what was happening. >> i want my kids to grow up in a safe environment and we want to stay here. >> reporter: finding them housing is not the city's responsibility. they gave tenants four months notice to move and will pay two months worth of rent. >> we have not done anything to cause discriminatory actions. so we will be responding. >> reporter: he says the city went above and beyond what they are required to do, helping some families get on a priority list for low income housing. >> we don't find people places to live but we have a long standing history of building affordable housing. >> reporter: they must be out by february 22. they are running out of option and time. >> where are we going to find a place where the rent is $900?

she is still in the hospital tonight. ktvu's noelle walker spoke to a man who saw the attack. >> the b.a.r.t. station is busy. a lot of people walk to and from b.a.r.t. >> we are about here. >> reporter: but few saw what he witnessed just after noon on wednesday. >> grabbed her purse. started taking off down there. >> reporter: a 72-year-old woman assaulted as she walked to the b.a.r.t. station. >> looked when he punched her in the face. he hit her so hard that i saw her feet fly up in the air. >> he saw the suspect get into a toyota camry and drive off on to the 680. police were nearby. a man who lives in the area took this picture as police swarmed where the attack happened. we saw police officers patrolling the area around the station.

clients relayed their stories. the american civil liberties union said they are awaiting the judge's decision. authorities are conducting a search in the small city about 40 miles northeast of paris looking for the gunmen responsible for yesterday's mass shooting. ktvu's christien kafton is live with the latest on the search and how france is recovering from a national tragedy. >> the latest report that we are hearing is the gunmen may have been spotted from the a helicopter but so far they have not been found. >> reporter: france observed a day of mourning marking the loss of 12 people in the attack on the offices of charlie hebdo. the investigate focused on said kouachi and cherif kouachit. one of the brothers left their identification in the get away car. >> we are trying to track down the individuals who committed yesterday's attack.
