morning. we are following the latest developments. >> good morning. i will have more on this weekend's closure of the golden gate bridge including how you can get around it and what to look for when the span reopens. ktvu channel 2 morning news continues. thank you for joining us. we continue to follow developing news out of paris, france. police are now locked into two stand offs right now. this is a live picture of one of the scenes. you can see an extensive response there. one of the scenes involved a gunman in a newspaper massacre, the other is with a man suspected of killing a police officer. coming up in two minutes, alex

even in areas that were very cold about five to six days ago. some in the lier elevations. we still have a layer that is warm. everyone is really close and the souse of that little system right there. there will be another one coming in on friday. a lot of cloud cover here. patchy fog. some out there oakland, livermore. hazy. a few sprinkles are possible but a lot of 50s and 60s. here is sal with an update on the golden gate bridge. the beautiful golden gate bridge. and you're not going to be able to use it this weekend starting tonight at 9:00 they will start making the closures. it will be completely shut off by 12:01 saturday. people are asking is it saturday at midnight. it's saturday morning at 12:01 is the official closure.

tonight they will start closing the lanes. this is a look at the bridge and traffic is moving well. we will have another story on how merchants are -- coming in a few moment. if you are driving to the bay bridge and you remember the bay bridge is going to take a lot of this extra traffic during the weekend, right now there is a little traffic here. no major problems on the span. but you can imagine that people that are come into the city will be using the the bay bridge because the golden gate bridge is not available this weekend. also looking at westbound i-80. we had a couple crashes along that stretch. 580 is on the slow side. 680 looks good heading down the sunol grade. let's go back to the desk. we begin with our developing news in france. there are two hostage stand off

situations. the first involves the brothers that are accused of the most cur. the second involves a gunman suspected of killing a french policewoman. alex savidge is in our newsroom now with the details and the terrorist connection. alex. >> reporter: pam, good morning to you. the man hunt for the gunman is playing out on two separate fronts. police are dealing with two separate hostage stand offs. both potentially involving suspected terrorists. here's a live look at a chaotic scene in eastern paris where a gunman is holding five people hostage inside a kosher super market. there is word of shots being fired at this scene and one person may have been wounded. the gunman inside that market is suspected of being a member of the same jihads group.

the hostage taker in this situation may be the person who killed a female police officer in southern paris yesterday morning. now at the same time there was a separate incident that is also unfolding in the paris area. police believe in that situation they have cornered said and cherif. u.s. officials say the kouachi brothers have ties to al qaeda in yemen. and they believe to be holding a woman hostage at that printing business. at this hour negotiations are ongoing with those two brothers. according to reports, the suspected killers have told police by phone this morning that they are prepared to die as martyrs. and you can see the police presence there at that scene and again police in the paris

effecting drivers. good morning, tara. >> reporter: good morning. some businesses are expecting a pretty big hit. hotels say they are still booked but it might be a different story for restaurants and shops. we had a chance to talk to the owner of a souvenir shop the other day. after being in business 31 years, open 365 days a year, she is closing for the first time saturday and sunday. she expects that there is going to be little demand for her t- shirt and key chain. we also spoke to the manager of a mexican eat rid and she says that she may be sending some of her servers and bartenders home. and may be taking a night off herself. now for those that live in marin, a week out -- a weekend without visitors might just be fine. >> sometimes our local customers stay away because of the tourists and no parking. so that might be a plus too.

>> how much times is the bridge closed? you can go over there and get some great pictures and check it out. >> tourists can ride rental bikes into sausalito because the walkway will be open and then they can take the ferry back to the city. now we did have the chance at just a minute ago to see one of the owners of a coffee shop here. she says she is expecting that business will hold up pretty well because the tourists will still be here as well as the locals with the ferries running. she has a lot more positive outlook on it and we'll be sure to have her perspective coming up. tara moriarty back to you. i want to tell you something tara, yesterday we were out talking to some people out there because we did the story for the news. they said they might be curious to go down and try to look at

what is going on. so they will ride their bikes to the golden gate bridge. >> that is exactly right and they want to walk. a lot have been talking about taking a walk on that bridge. because they expect that it will be so interesting to see no cars in the area. >> right. so thank you tara. and one of the traffic angles i'm following here is just to remind you that tonight at 9:00 is when chp will start doing their closures and their goal is to be completely shut down by 11:30. i was told that by a chp officer. one of the things wed want to mention is rodeo avenue will be closed. that will not effect many peel. that is the first closure. and we're looking at the bridge

good morning. welcome back to the morning news. five students were arrested in santa rosa after alleged gang related beating in a bathroom at montgomery high school. a group of eight students confronted a 14-year-old boy wednesday morning. he had reportedly joked he was a member of a gang. the suspects that beat him were real gang members. police say five of them surrounded the boy. one of them punched him in the face. and another one threatened to beat him again if he called the

police. comedian bill cosby is being met by protestors on the road with a stand up act. protestors braved breezing below freezing temperatures outside cosby's show in london last night. cosby has denied the allegations. he apparently joked about them during his set. he reportedly told one woman in the audience quote, you have to be careful drinking around me. he got a round of applause on the comment. more than 15 women have accused the cosby show star of sexual assault going back decades. some would say cosby would slip something in their drinks before the alleged assault. a san francisco dentist who lost his high school ring before he was surfing 35 years ago now hi has the ring back thanks to a treasure hunter with integrity. robert fouler said he only had that ring a couple of weeks in 1979 when he went surfing.

that is not going to happen. let's go to the bay bridge toll plaza where traffic here westbound is backed up. more people will be using the bay bridge this weekend coming in and out of san francisco as the golden gate bridge will not be available. so just plan ahead. westbound 580 we have a couple of things going on. we had a crash in the livermore area. that has been clear to the shoulder but traffic is slow this morning. 680 looks good from san ramon all the way down to sunol grade. this weekend's weather i'm wondering what it will be like. it was awfully mild in oakland. >> the heater did not kick on as much. because the cloud cover. that is correct. good morning. happy friday everybody. we do have the cloud cover so the lows that were 20s and 30s. now in the 40s and 50s. kind of hazy. a little bit of fog throughout. and some cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions on this friday. a weak system dropping in. so mostly cloudy, hazy.

breezy system will move in. it looks like we will get the western edge of it which is breezy. any rain? the last rain we had was christmas eve december 24th. it's been a long stretch. it's been a long stretch. 17th or 18th. i believe it's the 18th. usually when you come through an extended period of dry weather it's later than sooner. there is a weak system right there. there is not a lot to it. there might be a patch or two of fog around. cloudy skies which doesn't impact anything. mostly cloudy, clouds. hazy. 40s and 50s now. upper 40s and 50s. everyone is really close here on the lows. the higher elevations up around 1500 to 2,000 feet were really, really warm on wednesday.

about 68 degrees. i think together everybody will stay within a couple of degrees. 40s for woodside and menlo park. 59 the water temperature. you can see this temperature is really warm. cold, cold, cold much of the country. the bitterly cold all the way down to new orleans and atlanta. but they reenforce that cold air. not much cold air for us. temperatures have come up upper 20s. sacramento 44. over all look for the cloud cover to give us a cloudy and mostly cloudy day today. and there is another system on saturday. probably even lingering into

golden state warriors center spates. spates was at the seller nightclub unshutter street. gang members tried to rob him of his gold chains in a parking lot across the street from the club. one man had a gun. spates ran from that group. he was not hurt. in fact, later that night he played in the warriors game. dublin police are looking for a man who beat and robbed a 72-year-old woman near a busy bart station. the woman was walking just before 12:30 wednesday afternoon on golden gate drive near the bart station. she says the man came from behind her. there was a struggle and an eyewitness saids the man violently punched the woman and grabbed her purse. when police arrived, officers found her on the sidewalk bleeding from a large cut on her face. >> look. just in a split second when he punched her in the face and hit her so hard that i saw her feet fly up in the air. >> the suspect was looking for

a victim that couldn't fight back. cowardness. >> the man was seen get into a tan toyota camry or honda accord. it may have been driven by an accomplice. time is 6:27. the marine mammal center is hoping it can reach a small whale today. it washed up on a remote beach. now the whale was found yesterday near abbott lagoon. you are look at video of the beach. that whale is only about six feet long. they think it's a young pig please male. they believe it was still alive but the location of where it was it was too remote to reach last night. they are not sure if it made it through the night but they will try to get to it. time is 6:27. san francisco will not host the olympics in 2024 instead the

so for the morning commute expect for patchy fog it's just cloudy. mostly cloudy at noon. hazy skies. we will continue that this evening. there is no other issues here. 40s and 50s instead of the 20s and 30s. it's painly in the 40s and 50s. even the higher elevations have come down on the temps. everyone is close. there was a little hint of a west wind along the coast. for those along the coast, you know it has been really nice. well today it changes. cloudy to mostly cloudy. patchy fog and hazy. 50s and 60s within a couple of degrees. north bay and south bay. sal, any updates here besides the golden gate bridge? >> yeah we are watching that closely and letting everyone know it will close this weekend. it's kind of our duty to remind you so you don't go to it tomorrow because you won't be able to drive on it. if you are driving to the golden gate bridge now, traffic is looking very good as you drive from marin county into san francisco.

that is the commute direction but if you are driving the other way it also looks very nice. you will notice a lot of the signs are there and this weekend you should make other plans. the bay bridge will take a lot of that traffic i have a feeling and like wise for the richmond san rafael bridge. let's go to the bay bridge. you can see traffic here coming into san francisco right now may be about a 10-15 minute delay. there is nothing out of the ordinary here. some of the slowest traffic in the bay has been into livermore valley where we had an earlier crash on 580 westbound. it's been moved to the shoulder. there was some minor injuries in this shoulder. the traffic in contra costa county i think it will put a smile on your face if you are drying from 680 to 24 or 24 to the tunnel that looks pretty good. and there are no major problems in san jose. it's getting a little slow in some areas but there are not any major crashes to report. let's go back to the desk. the big story the

developing news still coming in from france. we are focused on that. right now special forces are at the scenes of two hostage stand offs. the suspects in both cases they are connected to al qaeda. ktvu alex savidge is in our newsroom. tell us about the terror threat. >> reporter: yes two tense standoffs are playing out in the same time in the paris area involving suspected terrorists. first of all, we will get you here to a live look at the scene in eastern paris. this is where police have surrounded a kosher grocery store. there are reports that a gunman is now holding at least six people hostage inside. that includes women and children. and there is also word that shots have been fired there at that scene at some point and at least one person may have been wounded. we don't know how bad their injuries are. the gunman inside that market is thought to be the man you see here in this mug shot that was just released by authorities this morning. he and another woman are suspected of shooting and

killing a paris police officer yesterday morning. the victim in that case was a 25-year-old police trainee. that killing yesterday has now been linked to the original terror attack at the offices of charlie hebdo on wednesday. there is a separate stand off that is happening a the the charles de gaulle airport outside of paris. this is the scene. police believe they have cornered said and cherif inside a print shop there. the two have been on the run since wednesday when they killed 12 people at the charlie hebdo offices. they do have ties to al qaeda and yemen and this morning the two suspected terrorists are believed to be holding one woman hostage inside that printing business. negotiations there at that scene are ongoing. according to reports the suspected killers have told

police by phone that they are prepared to die as martyrs. we are keep hang eye on both of those situation -- we are keeping an eye on both situations. meantime a bay area islamic group is paying tribute to the charlie hebdo victims today. they will hold a candle light vigil. they want to show they condemn terrorist violence and also hope to prevent a backlash against the islamic faith. a 53-year-old man was walking outside of a crosswalk and against a light when he was hit and killed on a busy road in san jose. it happened on the monterey highway. now a friend of the victim tells us the man was hit by two cars. he says one of the drivers left the scene but that has not been confirmed by police. the other driver did stop at the scene and is cooperating

with investigators. your time is 6:36. governor brown unvails his new budget plan for the next year. the governor is prepared to present the budget plan. reportedly he is not giving in to the university of california's threat to raise tuition unless he gives the university system more money. instead it will include the same $120 million increase he previously proposed on the condition that uc does not raise tuition. janine de la vega is joining us with a look at what is new on wheels.

to see exactly how everything works and exactly what is new here. and so turn it on for me. >> i know you probably can't hear it but it is on. very quiet. similar to the prius. >> reporter: yeah i don't hear anything at all. it is a push button. >> yes. and as you can see you can control the temperature from the smart touch screen here. this is the first vehicle on the toyota lineup that we offer this technology in. >> and very similar to prius. so toyota customers people with toyota you know are they going to -- this is is not going to look completely new to them? >> no this is similar to what we have with the prius when you look at the information cluster. but yes, it is very similar. very futuristic. and again this is just one of many, many cars that are out here on display. and one of the thing trace offering people that come here

of the longest closure in the golden gate bridge. it is open to cars now but later tonight crews will start the process of shutting it down for 52 hours. tara moriarty is live in sausalito with more. she is -- not the traffic problems it will cause, but also it's going to impact businesses especially in sausalito where you are tara. >> reporter: we spoke to one owner of a cafe. she says she doesn't expect business to be impacted too much because of the a lot of the locals and tourists that will still come to her cafe. a lot of the hotels are still booked. other restaurant and shop owners are not so sure. we spoke to the owner of a souvenir shop here that says after being in business 31 years, open 365 days a year, she will close saturday and sunday because she expects little demand for her t-shirts and key chains. at a mexican eatery the manager says she may send some servers and bartenders home and take a

diego. >> right and i've been covering it for years and you know this was obviously just a small plan at one point that grew into it's going to happen tomorrow. so we will closely be following it. and finally we are going to have the closure they have been talking about for a little bit. closures begin tonight. some begin this morning near the bridge. minor ones. but the major ones start this evening. as you can see the traffic here looks good. southbound on the right four lanes the pile ons there it will be a thing of the past starting very soon. let's move along and take a look at the animation here that is -- i want to let you know the merge points will be slightly different getting on to southbound 101. when you drive on southbound 101, please give yourself extra time on monday if that is your commute. just an extra 5-10 minutes just so you can get used to the new configuration.

hazy skies. it will be cooler next week. upper 50s and low 60s for us. any rain? last rain we had was christmas eve. december 24th. we are looking for some rain. we can't find any. there are hints maybe around i think the 18th. cloud cover streaming up from the south. weak system coming in. that has brought the lows out. 40s and 50s on the temps. everyone is very close within a few degrees. brentwood and antioch 49. san ramon 48. there is a little component of a westerly breeze from that system. the coast has been windy and warm this week. things are caking now. because now you get that system coming in. cold, cold, cold.

take your pick. all the way down. a little modification on some of this. just came across snow moving into parts of the northeast. skyline of boston was obscured. these are fast moving systems but they leave a little bit of snow. really not much cold air. there is 40s for almost everybody. that is getting cooled down by the system that is getting there. clouds today and then the next system on saturday giving us cloudy to mostly cloudy conditions. kind of hazy, patchy fog. not much of a breeze. over all there could be a light sprinkle. clouds in the mix here for today and tomorrow. and probably into sunday as well. temperatures 50s and 60s. they topped out on wednesday when we had 70s. it was 80 degrees on monday. cloudy to mostly cloudy will take us into weekend. early next week looks breezy. still no rain. >> still no rain. that is too bad.

olympic stadium and village. they will announce their decision in september 2017. just an amazing story a one- month-old boy is being called a miracle baby. he will be going home from the hospital in up a cool of days. he was born on december 6th. before his birth ultra sounds showed he had a tumor on his lungs larger than doctors had ever seen before. the first doctor the mother consulted told her the baby would not develop normally and advised her to terminate the pregnancy but she refused and she went to lucille pack hard. >> they said it was something that rare but something that they could work with. >> they kept two surgical teams on stand by when the mom went into labor.
