san francisco, oakland airport south. was on san mateo. bridge on the hayward side. i know north san jose. some thick fog here this morning, but other areas which were foggy yesterday were clear and some cold, 30s for a few. we get some of that fog but it's going to get chewed up. there is enough of a northerly breeze. 30s, 40s to 50. half moon bay says 50. santa rosa is 39. walnut creek 39. livermore says 50. i know there is an easterly breeze. menlo park and palo alto, upper 30s. woodside is close. la honda, 53. foster city, san mateo, 42, 43. livermore, a southeast breeze. easterly breeze san jose. and a north breeze. the low responsible for that breeze is right there. eventually that will chew up a lot of fog. we'll have a sun nin and mild day. 60s on the temps. all right, sal, any new updates

on the fog? there are advisories force drivers for some of the bridges, bay bridge, san mateo bridge, to name a few. i also want to mention that the eastshore freeway, the traffic here is gonna be busy as you drive from the richmond area into the macarthur maze and when you get to the toll plaza, you will see the fog has lifted. remember the fog was there but it's gone. you can see the east bay hills. so things tend to change. i want to mention there is a crash southbound, 101 in san francisco, looking at the picture of the bay bridge here and traffic getting into san francisco looks good. but if you -- if i show you the maps here, southbound 101 -- that's not the icon i want. i'm sorry. i used a fire icon. it's an accident icon, southbound 101 as you head down to paul avenue. down the peninsula, there is a crash. southbound 101 near hillsdale blocking a lane as well. you might want to think about using 280 as an alternate route

instead of 101 until that crash has been removed. 7:02. back to the desk. >> all right. thank you, sal. san francisco police are asking for the public's help in solving the shooting deaths of four men in hayes valley last week. ktvu channel 2 reporter tara moriarty is live at police headquarters and says the police chief joined in the vigil to remember the victims. good morning, tara. >> reporter: well, good morning. yes. police chief greg suhr asked anyone with any information about the killings to come forward. we know the victims were targeted and the shots fired came from two guns. that's the information we know of so far in this investigation. now, community leaders attended the vigil. friday night around 10:00, four men were shot while sitting in a stolen honda on page street near laguna. police say two of the members were gang members. the mother of one of the boys

said her son was not a gang member and worked as a host at a restaurant while taking classes. he wag asking a friend for his ride to cash his check. >> he wanted to cash his check fast to help me pay the rent. that's why my son dad. he died a working man. >> reporter: the leaders asked the younger generation to learn more about the gun violence. one person is dead after smoke filled a metro station in downtown washington, d.c. video taken by a passenger stuck inside the train for over an hour shows people struggling to breathe as smoke filled the subway car. passengers were told not to try to open the doors. while this scene unfolds, a

dark plume of smoke filled the platform. >> smoke everywhere. lights go out. >> the ntsb is leading the investigation into the incident. more than 200 people were evacuated. many of them forced to escape on their own. 7:05. happening today, we expect a big announcement from california attorney general cam kamala harris. she's considered to the front- runner to replace barbara boxer when she retires. alex savidge has more from the newsroom. >> good morning. harris said she's all in while lieutenant-governor gavin newsom is out. and newsom's announcement is important. it makes things less complicated for the attorney general. the 50-year-old is considered a rising star in the democratic party. she's the first woman and the first african-american to be elected california attorney

general. and, of course, before that, you will remember she was san francisco district's attorney. her path to the senate, it might be a little less bumpy with newsom deciding he will not run for the seat being vacated by barbara boxer. harris and newsom, long-time friends. they have many of the same democratic supporters. and political observers say that newsom bowing out helps to avert a potentially, ugly political battle. >> i think it's clear the two of them don't want to run against each other. both have a bright future politically. i'm not surprised that they would on the to run in different -- opt to run in different places. >> harris could face other high- profile democratic contenders. eric swalwell said he's seriously thinking about running. and tone yovillaraigosa -- antonio villaraigosa considering running. on the republican side, former

state gop clairman, tom delakarbo. this will be the first of the race. the city council is due to begin to look at how it can help undocumented residents. the city council is expected to talk about how help people who can benefit from president obama's recent order on immigration. city council says some of the ways include conducting outreach to make sure all eligible residents are protected from being deported. also by tracking and making public the individuals and organizations that exploit vulnerable immigrants. the golden gate bridge district says commuters seem to be adjusting wefl to the addition of the center of the barrier of the bridge.

one change, the lane closest to the barrier is 6 inches narrower and drivers we talked with say that difference is quite noticeable. >> i was right alongside it. it seems -- it sticks out a little bit. i noticed that people were veering to the right a little bit. >> this bridge is completely unforgiving without this barrier. to be able to install it, it will change the safety of the bridge forever more. >> our crew says very few people were obeying the new 45- mile-an-hour speed limit. there was one accident at the north end of the bridge involving several cars yesterday morning. but the bridge district said that was caused by a stalled car. while the golden gate bridge was closed, nearby bridges helped carry the load. traffic on the richmond/san rafael bridge increased by 42% on saturday. more than 45% on sunday. the bay bridge carried 9% more traffic on saturday and 15%

more on sunday before the golden gate reopened sunday night. 7:08. a broken fire hydrant needs to be fixed. the fire department capped it to keep it from shooting a geyser in the area. a construction worker hit it with a backhoe. look at that water. it hatched near stockton and ellis streets right in front of the apple store. the firefighters eventually turned off the water but the water main break left puddles and mud in the construction area nearby. a spokesman for the utilities commission said work crews will fix the hydrant in the coming days. the death of a 16-year-old foster child from antioch is at the center of an investigation after the otherwise healthy teenager was found dead in his bed last month. according to a bay area news group investigation, steven anengs had been prescribed zoloft and the sedating

antihistamine vistarel. they are working to find out why he didn't get medical care after showing signs of being heavily impaired despite his grandmother's pleas. toxicology results are expected soon. facebook is teaming up with a national group to help find missing children. it will soon start to provide amber alerts in the area where a child has gone missing. it's working with the national center for mirroring and exploited children to send the alerts to users' mobile phones. several children have been reunited with their families as a result of information shared on the site. 7:10. there's been a new arrest in the paris terrorist attack. even as a surviving staff the charlie hebdo, they are planning an unprecedented move. twitter and youtube accounts hacked. up next the group claiming responsibility for the attack

a pittsburgh police officer is recovering this morning after he was involved in a crash while responding to a bank robbery call. it happened before 1:00 yesterday afternoon on loveridge road. police say the officer was responding to the robbery with emergency lights and sirens when he collided with a car. that caused a chain reaction

involving another car and a motorcyclist. the officer and four other people were taken to the hospital. but police don't believe any of the injuries are life- threatening. the u.s. government, harked. pam cook is in the studio now with what happened and how it is tied to terrorists. pam? >> yeah, the united states central command twitter and youtube sites were harked. that has been -- hacked. that's been confirmed by a senior official. they refer to themself as the cybercaliphate and they said, we're coming. watch your back. the pentagon says so far it does not appear any classified information was compromised. >> what's more concerning is not what they actually stole and posted, it's what they might have stolen and what they might be able to steal in the future. this was basically saying, we can steal things from you, take a look. >> the hackers posted isis

propaganda videos on centcom's youtube page as well as the addresses, and phone numbers of retired army generals. the cyber attack happened 30 minutes but it happened just as emancipation president obama mass making a speech. we'll have more in the next hour of "mornings on 2". 7:15. more shuttle bus drivers in silicon valley apparently, they want to unionize. most of the shuttle drivers for six bay companies signed authorization cards with the teamsters union. now the union has notified youtube, zinga, ebay, genentic. the drivers complain they have to work split shifts and only get paid for the time they are actually driving tech workers. 7:15. we want to check in with sal. there have been some reports of fog out there and let's see how the commute is going.

>> we had a fog advisory for some of the bridges earlier and i was looking at some of these pictures before and after and well, you know, things look good and they don't look good. it keeps moving around. but steve says that the fog is not going to last and i will let steve explain. right now, it's definitely affecting the morning commute. you normally can see 880 all the way up past high street. and you can see this portion at the coliseum. it's interesting you can see the top of the fog which even i as a lay person knows the fog won't last too long. the sun will burn it out. bay bridge toll plaza, backed up. we were looking at a foggy tacoma. now it's backed up to the maze, about a 20-minute delay. i want to mention there is a crash southbound 101 at hillsdale in san mateo. and traffic is backing up out of burlingame heading south. this is an unexpected delay. those are the worst kinds.

there is a crash southbound 101 at paul. the peninsula, not looking great, except if you use 280 which would be a very decent alternate route. speaking of the weather and fog, let's go to steve. i had a nice tweet from deflo. he said on 880, he looked up and could see stars. that's how low the fog is. yesterday was more concord, livermore, brent wood. this morning, san francisco, oakland, alameda. along the peninsula toward the south bay. very foggy, parts of the north, san jose, fremont, hayward, mountain view. had reports there -- i know in alameda as well. the fog will ur-- will burn off quick. a nice picture from tina, clear in pacifica and clear in daly city. this is the radiation fog that's with us. it will clear out of here. but we have morning fog and

it's thick, thick, thick for some. it looks like a dry week. we'll get clouds cooler. it looks like the rain has been taken out of the equation. i'm not surprised. this is a very long stretch going back 166 years in san francisco. there have been, two decembers that were dry, san francisco there was one february. there has never been a dry january in san francisco. looks very weak for the weekend. one of the 16hy day plots which takes us around the 28th and 29th had it dry for ukiah and santa rosa. if that trend continues, then we may be in record-setting territory. we're getting way ahead of ourselves. the fog is there, 30, 40, 50- degree temps. higher elevations starting to warm up again. 40s and 50s. a little bit of a northwest breeze. 40s for morgan hill and gilroy. mummer 40s for many.

sunnyvale at 45. a little easterly component. easterly at san jose, but there is a northerly breeze northeast at half moon bay which is why that's bumping them up. also pacifica and daly city, the coast looks good. overall, the low right there. that's moving into eastern nevada, into parts of the four corners. the back side is swinging in an easterly breeze. higher elevations, that's scouring south a lot of fog -- out a lot of the fog. omaha, zero. that's the weather controlling that -- that has to budge. that has to change. we have to get that cold air out of there. there's the low moving into utah, arizona. that's where the active weather will be. we're on the drier side of it. eventually the front will scour out the fog. 29 reno and also lake tahoe, 37 ukiah. fog into mendocino county. fog will get wiped out here but not before it does. if you are just leaving, it can be foggy. sunny and mild. a little breezy at times. 60s on the temps starting off better for some in the north

on this very freeway. when you get to the bay bridge toll plaza, the fog has been here but it's disappeared westbound traffic, though is backed up. this is a 30, 35-minute delay. we have a lot of slow traffic here and there approaching from all areas. 880, 580 and interstate 80. southbound southbound 101 at paul, we had a crash and that's affecting traffic heading south out of the caesar cesar chavez area. southbound 101 they are clearing a crash. 280 is the best bet down the peninsula. back to the desk. >> thank you. you buy a lottery ticket and you hope you will win big. but authorities say one bay area gas station manager was making sure his customers had no chance of winning at all. ktvu's janine de la vega joining us live from san bruno and you are telling us how investigators discovered a scam and what to look out for. good morning, janine. >> reporter: good morning, dave. well, i bought a lottery ticket this morning.

i lost. you can see there's scratches all over it. but an alert customer bought a lottery scratcher ticket sim similar to this one -- similar to this one at this chevron. they noticed there was a scratch on the bottom of the ticket and reported it to the lottery commission. investigators came here to see if customers were being sold altered ticket. they say the gas station manager had been pinning. a pin or sharp object is used part of a verification code hidden on the tickets. the district attorney said the manager was checking those codes in the lottery system to see which were winners and which were losers. he allegedly kept the winning tickets for himself. the 27-year-old, from pacifica was arrested and faced five felony charges of computer fraud and one misdemeanor charge. >> that's not fair. that's not fair.

israel overnight. israel's prime minister took part in the ceremony and hundred of people lined the streets. people who survived an assault by islamic extremists in northern nigeria are describing the harrowing experience. villagers who managed to escape the attack say the violence lasted for days. they say it started after boca bow boka hiram. people were slaughtered like insects. amnesty international says as many as 2,000 people may have died. time is 7:34. san jose police warned the owners of the fiesta nightclub about the possibility of violence before the chris brown concert last weekend. vice officers recommended increased security for that show. that's where five people were shot and wounded earlier sunday morning. one of the officers says the club owner appeared to heed the call to hire more bouncers. however, witnesses claim the

security particularly the patdowns for weapons, it was inconsistent at best. the nightclub's owner wasn't able to be reached for comment. in the meantime, the search goes on for at least one gunman in the shooting. a doctor in east contra costa county is facing very serious charges. he's accused of possessing child pornography. 74-year-old dr. michael russell worked at this office in pittsburg before he retired recently. russell was arrested on friday charged with possession of child pornography. the contra costa county d.a.'s office says more than 600 photos and videos of children under 12 were found scored on a computer at his home in brentwood. >> some people think these are victimless crimes. but they are not because viewers who watch child pornography create a marketplace for people to abuse children and place these images of these children on the internet. >> russell is free on $150,000

bail. if he's convicted, he could get up to five years in prison. 7:35. a planned tuition increase is being blamed for a vote of no confidence in uc regents and uc president janet napolitano. the uc president -- rather, the uc student association passed the vote of no confidence during the first meeting of the year. it says it will withhold confidence until napolitano and the board of regents repeal their tuition increase plan. the tuition policy approved in november allows fees to increase by 5% per year for the next five years. it could be weeks before students are allowed back on san francisco city college's civic center campus. most of the students at the campus are learning english as a second language. they were not told anything until yesterday when they you returned to classes after the winter break. school officials say the building on eddy street is shut down because it would be unsafe in an earthquake. >> we didn't want to present this issue to the students and

to the faculty without having a concrete solution. we couldn't tell them there was a safety issue and not tell them what we were gonna do about it. >> city college says the building it needs $13 million in repairs. it's not clear how long it will be shut down. so the school says classes will begin in about three weeks at the city college campus on goff street, about a 20-minute walk away. 7:37. there's been a lot of community support for the vallejo yard mirls pro baseball team after a recent theft -- admirals pro baseball team after a recent theft. thieves broke into the clubhouse and stole unforms and other equipment. >> what we lost was about $20,000 worth of unforms and merchandise. every penny helps and i -- i think we've already probably exceeded our expectations. >> how about that? >> the team's general manager said they will play in t-shirts and shorts if they have to.

but from the look of laugh night's turnout, that probably won't be necessary. happening today, the san francisco giants are due to present plans to make changes to that area near at&t park. a proposal being introduced to the san francisco port includes a mopup beer guard -- popup beer garden. brian flores is live near the bull -- ballpark. you have an idea of what it will look like if it will happen. >> reporter: yes. an interesting concept, isn't it? we're live here right across from a very foggy at&t park this morning near china basin park. in the parking lot you can see the popup beer garden, possibly restaurants and retail shops that could be here pretty soon. want to go to artist renderings of what it is supposed to look like. it's touted as a popup ven un. if you look at the -- venue. if you look at the renderings,

they are mainly unused shipping containers from the port of oakland. 15 are being converted into oakland. restaurants are planned, aconwith a coffee shop. there's space for an outdoor food patio. there's plan to use the space for movies or small concerts. now, the developer as well as the team see this as an opportunity to use the space to generate more business for the port. but also generate buzz once the plans are finalized for the mission bay project around the ballpark. throughout the year, the space goes unused. doesn't generate any money from parking revenue. the space gets busier during the baseball season but they hope this can be used year round. the giants are expected to pay 2.5 million for the project and pay the port about 77,000 in rent to make this happen. again, this will be brought up during the port commission meeting. that's scheduled to take place around 3:15 this afternoon. we also understand through the chronicle that many of those

shipping containers, they are being worked on at a port in vallejo. this site could be done by march. interesting concept, indied. back to you. >> yeah, it sure is. 7:39. a new development to tell you about this morning. california attorney general kamala harris has just announced she is launching a campaign to run for boxer's u.s. senate seat in 2016. harris made the announcement on this new website. she's set it up for her senate run. as you will recall, last thursday, senator boxer announced she would not be running for re-election in 2016 and yesterday, one possible democratic candidate, gavin newsom announced he would not run. most of us strive to be neat and organized, especially at the workplace but a new study says having a messy desk may not necessarily be a bad

thing. the study published in a journal says people who keep their devils clean are more likely to do the right thing, that includes making charitable donations and eating a healthy diet. often the flip side, people with messy desks may be likely to break free of tradition, produce new ideas and be more creative. one psychologist says a messy desk may indicate a person is too busy with work to clean up their face. if you think your family and friends are the people who know you best, guess again. apparently computers can precisely judge your personality traits based on your affordable care act likes. that's according to a new study by stanford and the university of cambridge. researchers trained a computer to association likes to person -- associate likes to personality traits. liking the apprentice would indicate good organization and

the ohio state buckeyes are the first national champions in college football's new playoff system. >> elliott. >> running back elliott scored four touchdowns for ohio state. the buckeyes beat the ducks 42- 20 at at&t stadium in arlington, texas. ohio state began the first major college football playoff as the fourth and final seed but they knocked off top-seeded alabama and number 2 oregon to win. >> ohio state students and fans got rowdy in columbus after the win. thousands of excited people took to the streets near the campus after police couldn't get them back on the sidewalks, they used pepper spray to clear the road. dozens of small fires were reported and police did make several arrests. no problems were reported in eugene, oregon, home of the ducks. >> no problems there.

northbound 280 at foothill. traffic is backed up all the way through from downtown san jose. this is a crash that is blocking the two left lanes. i draw the line of the slow traffic there. you can see for yourself how slow it is. northbound 280 near the foothill express way. 85 is also slow because of the rubbernecker -- the chain reaction. when 280 gets slow, so does 85. wait to slow you what 280 looks like. it's almost at a standstill coming out of downout right past the 880 interchange. bay bridge toll plaza is backed up for a 25, 30-minute delay. no major problems. i forgot to tell you about something. if we can go back to the maps, i don't want too short change people. northbound 680 at stone valley road, there is an accident blocks the two left lanes there and this whole area of walnut creek and danville we have slow traffic. that's the world's worst circle

it was steve -- the 4th of december. it's a long dry stretch there. maybe this weekend, the 17th or 18th we would get rain. now the forecast models have taken it north. 166 years of record-keeping there's never been a dry january in san francisco. there were two decembers that were try and one february, but never a january. if you were last january we had .06. so to come back and beat that would be incredible. let's hone that doesn't happen but some of the 16-day outlooks are dry for ukiah and santa rosa. if ukiah and santa rosa are not getting rain, probably nobody else south of that is. some of that fog could work its way in. boy, is it low. 30s, 40s, to 50s on some of the temps. 52, blackhawk. 38 alamo. 46 brentwood. did have a report of 39. there is a little component of that breeze.

that's an offshore breeze. the coast looks to be good. 60s on the temps. all right, sal. have any fog updates? >> the fog is preventing us from seeing downtown san jose on northbound 280 but we have another picture of it northbound 280 at the 880 interchange. you can tell that it's a big mess because of an earlier crash. northbound 280 roughly near the foothill expressway and all of 280 is sold out back to highway 101. as a matter of fact, if we look at the maps, we can show it to you, traffic is backed up on 280, 85, 101. this is the worst day in the santa clara valley by a long shot. in 2015 and maybe even for the last half of 2014 because of that one crash. it's now clear. all of the freeways got jam packed from the expressways, too. i want to move to alamo. northbound 680 in stone valley, we had a crash clearing. both directions of 680 in and out of alamo and danville are messed up. if you are driving through the

that was caused by a stalled car and not related to the new barrier. traffic on the richmond san rafael bridge increased yesterday by 42% on saturday. and more than a% upon sunday. the -- 45% on sunday. the bay bridge carried 9% more traffic on saturday and 15% more on sunday before the geg reopened sunday night. uber said it will start to share trip data with the cities where it operates to help them manage traffic. the company says it will remove identifiable information from the trip data which will include pickup and dropoff locations. boston will be the first city to receive the data. many regulators have been pushing uber for some time to disclose that information. facebook is teaming up with a national organization now to help find missing children. facebook will soon start providing amber alerts to people who live in an area where a child is missing. now, it's working with the national center for missing and

-- like a pin to scratch off a verification code. the investigators say the 27- year-old from pacifica used the code to determine which scratchers were winners and which were losers. the person selling the lottery ticket has the ability to enter the codes into the lottery computer system to check which ones were winners. the man allegedly kept the winning tickets and soemed the losing ones to customers. we spoke to customers this morning who say the lottery commission should change their system so the person selling the tickets doesn't have the ability to check them. >> i think they are supposed to change it and be under control. if one person is doing it, somebody else will keep doing it efit everywhere. >> reporter: the man was arrested and faces five felony counts of computer fraud and a misdemeanor charge. investigators say he stole $300 and possibly much more. this case came to light when an alert customer noticed a scratch on the bottom of ticket

you. it's an interesting concept. . this parking lot, this fenced in area this is where the proposed popup beer garden is expected to be. there could be restaurants and retail shops. this is an artest rendering of it. if you look at the renderings there, the buildings, some seating areas are unused shipping containers from the port of oakland. we under about 15 are being converted into buildings. anchor steam brewery peer garden is expected to be here, other restaurants planned for the developer as well as the giants see this as an opportunity to use the space to

generate more business for the port but to also generate buzz once the plans are finalized for the mission bay project across from the ballpark. through the year, the space goes unused and doesn't generate money from the unused parking spaces. so the space gets busier during the baseball season. they hope this can be used year round. the giants are expected to pay $2.5 million for the project and pay the port $77,000 in rent. the fog has lifted right across -- as you can see from at&t park this morning. there is a meeting about this at the port commission scheduled at 3:15 this afternoon. we also understand through the chronicle that many of those shipping containers used for the site are almost done and this site could be done just in time of spring training in march. guys, back to you. >> pretty quick turnaround. we're in january. >> thank you. if you are at work or in your home office look at your
