six people needed medical attention after the blue car you see here plowed right into the men's department of a bay area macy's store. good evening i am julie hay nor. >> i am frank somerville. shoppers rushed to the hospital after a car drived right through the front door of macy's. one man was hit on the sidewalk and seriously injured. here is a look where it happened, new park mall is off interstate 880, the car is actually still inside that store now. >> reporter: well, frank, this happened around 5:00 p.m. investigators have been here

all night the car was in this parking lot when it sped through the entrance of this macy's, taking down the glass doors, racks and customers in its path. a terrifying scene inside this macy's in new park mall in newark after a car slammed through the men's department you can see the blue honda, 80 feet in, tore down the store's front entrance, took dune merchandise -- down merchandise and hit shoppers. >> we had to determine if we had enough resources and locate patients they were not in one spot they were throughout the floor. >> reporter: in all, alameda county fire treated six people, four including the driver had to be rushed to various hospitals a man on the sidewalk suffered the most injuries an 8- year-old believed to be the man's daughter was the youngest patient she left with bruises. >> based on the number of patients, mass casualty incident. >> reporter: the 63-year-old

driver had some sort of medical condition two teenaged passengers were not injured in the car. >> i was nervous i saw thehelicopters on the highway when i took the exit i was really scared and i was nervous i didn't want to lose any friends. >> reporter: macy's employee had the day off she rushed to see if her coworkers were okay. >> a lot of employee friends i had were shook some were crying. >> reporter: she is thankful knowing it could have been more tragic. shoppers stunned this happened in the first place. >> i was in the mall earlier, trying to go back to the macy's it was closed i couldn't walk through i am just now getting out to find out someone drove into the macy's. >> reporter: and firefighters evacuated macy's it has been closed since the rest of this mall was still open, there is no structural damage other than the front of the entrance it is not clear when they will be back open. remarkable no one was

killed. new park mall thank you. now to martinez and frightening moments for residents of a town house complex investigators say an arsonist moved from home to home this afternoon setting fires. the town homes are located on ash wood drive, south of highway 4. tonight a resident of that complex is under arrest. ktvus. noelle walker is live at the scene. >> reporter: he is one of the neighbors here. one neighbor just told me, this has been a complete nightmare this family was in the process of being evicted from his home where he lived since the late 1990s we spoke to one of his sons who said he saw changes in his father, he was paranoid thinking the neighbors were out to get him. many of those neighbors are asking why. tonight this is what is left of a town house and another and a home all the work of an alleged

arsonist. >> i just -- it was unbelievable. >> reporter: this man knows the suspect as dad. >> not just this house but that he went over and burned down other people's houses. >> reporter: around 1:00 p.m., firefighters rushed to a town house on ash wood drive in martinez, flames and smoke so hot they were visible for miles. >> multiple sets, and multiple locations going on all at the same time. >> look over this place is just up and i turned this way a couple minutes later and these places are gone. >> reporter: fire investigators are tallying up the number of fires set. one of them was in bill brewsters garage. >> most everything got destroyed. >> reporter: christmas decorations just boxed away. >> it meant a lot to my wife. >> reporter: family heirlooms gone. >> everything can be replaced, we are lucky we didn't lose the house. >> reporter: that is because contractors working at his home

put down their tools, and picked up hoses to put out the fire. police say the man who set the fires is 52-year-old david boyle he lived at the first town house to go up in flames, tonight, neighbors have just one question. >> why. are you that vengeful to do that to your neighbors? when what have they done to you? >> reporter: and from a son, still in shock. >> right now all i can say is i am so sorry this happened. >> reporter: one neighbor told me it appears this guy just snapped. these fires look like they were started with a blow torch, thankfully no body was injuried in any of the fires and julie, tonight both martinez police and contra costa fire department are investigating. >> thank you to the south bay where alert neighbors saved the life of a man asleep in a burning apartment this happened 5:15 p.m. this evening on north lake drive in san jose.

a fire department spokesperson said the fire started in a carport, burned three cars and spread to two apartments. neighbors banged on the door of that sleeping man's unit, waking him and he dashed to safety, fire officials say no one was hurt. >> major new developments about the raiders and 49ers coaching job on the left, the new head coach for the 49ers, and on the right, is jack delrio he is coming to coach the raiders, so no more speculation tonight about those two coaching jobs. >> teams finally made their decisions on the same day raiders have not made an announcement yet, bay area native, jack delrio is coming to oakland the niners did make official they are staying in house and promoting, jim tomsula mark is here now. all this happening on the same day. >> a little strange but as you say, 49 everies and raiders -- 49ers and raiders got to share the headlines because oakland

won the battle of the bay we will talk about their new head coach first other than never having played for the raiders he is about the most perfect pedigree fans could hope for. jack delrio born in east bay, grew up a raiders fan and parents have seasons tickets obviously it takes a lot more than that to deserve a chance to bring this franchise back to its glory after a terrific playing career he coached the jacksonville jaguars for nine years so he does have the experience, and after a second meeting yesterday with owner mark davis, general manager, reggie mackenzie and john madden the offer was made. no contract details released as of yet but we can expect jack delrio to be formerly introduced in the next few days. 49ers make their splash today, jim coached one game with the team remember when mike singletary was relieved of

his duties, he has been with san francisco since 2007 hired in the mike nolan era, he served as a defensive line coach it was a surprise that he was moved up to head coaching position, which is no doubt a sore point with definitive coordinator thought to be a leading candidate. his disgruntlement apparently will not matter because the 49ers are reportedly replacing their entire coaching staff except running backs coach tom rathman so plenty more changes to come. probably not happy at all about being passed over but there is speculation he may join the raiders as their defensive coordinator it is a small world in the coaching carousel of the nfl. >> all right. >> more including you will hear what vernon davis had to say. >> thank you. we went to levy stadium to

family and friends of the two erupted into cheers and popped champagne when they received the new it is pair reached the top they started the 3,000-foot climb 19 days ago, they ate and slept in tents perched on tiny ledges of the massive rock wall fortunately the weather stayed mostly mild and dry for their epic journey. so many people have been following that climb including president obama, and today, he tweeted this picture the president congratulated the two of them and said you remind us that anything is possible. now the second picture shows the two of them right after they reached the top of the wall giving themselves a well deserved hug. i can't even begin to imagine how tired they must be i mean can you imagine climbing that sheer cliff like that. and finally this third picture, these just never get old look at that. sheer wall there.

arrest. not imminent but indicative of what we could see in future. this is 20-year-old chris cornell arrested today at a gun store in ohio by multiple fb i agents his alleged target the u.s. capitol he reportedly used on twitter his recently adopted muslim name to express support for isis and make threats against members of congress he lived near cincinnati with his father who said his son's behaviour changed in recent weeks. >> i don't think he knew where he wanted to go in life. i was the same way when i was a kid and i grew up i wanted to be a cowboy i don't think he really knew. >> reporter: he faces multiple charges including attempted murder of a u.s. government officer he was arrested at this gun store after buying two semi automatic rifles and 600 rounds of ammunition. >> as soon as the purchase was over he left the door several agents came and tackled him here in the parking lot and took him down. >> reporter: according to a

criminal complaint he was in contact with an fbi informant and tried to contact isis militants overseas for orders. he told the informant quote i believe we should just wage jihad under our own orders and plan attacks and everything. >> looks like the fbi did a good job here, they identified everyone in good commune with what he thought was -- communication with what he thought was al qaeda or isis. >> it is a big problem because you don't have to actually associate yourself with an organization you have to associate yourself with an idea. >> reporter: congressman returned from washington dc tonight to sfo say leg is grateful to the fbi and this arrest is a reminder to be vigilant. >> we must make sure our local law enforcement all the way up to the fbi have tools and are

arrested. >> reporter: the congressman a new member of the house intelligence committee says there are multiple threats including from an al qaeda magazine which released bomb making instructions recently the same magazine that also called for those attacks in paris. live tonight for us in sfo ken, thank you. police action in san jose ended with a suspect taken to the hospital. the arrest happened 4:15 p.m. on leeward drive near sorry road these pictures show a sizable police presence and person loaded into an ambulance. san jose police would only say the suspect is a wanted man and ran from a canine unit that eventually caught him police spokeswoman told us the suspect suffered nonlife threatening injuries and was taken to hospital. students at city college of san francisco got some good news this afternoon about the school's ongoing accreditation battle the western association of schools and colleges announced it is granting city college restoration status that

means ccsf will remain accredited and have two more years to come into full compliance accreditors say the school should be able to fix its administrative problems during that time. >> tom hanks says his experience at bay area community college when he was growing up here in the bay area made him what he is today in a piece for the new york times he says he owes everything to the college. mike tells us tom hanks wrote the piece to support the president's plan to make community colleges free especially because of how that would help veterans. >> a navy veteran a new father. >> you see him it lights up your day. >> reporter: he is embarking on a new journey along with thousands of others, now enrolled at the college >> i can't go into management without a degree i can't go above really foreman. >> reporter: on this day the community college in hayward is in the national spotlight. >> not surprised but absolutely

around here but it is not going to happen showers will head north as we head into tomorrow this next weather system might bring a few sprinkles as we head into fly day, it will be mainly -- friday but it will be mainly north of san raphael. i have a dense fog advisory showing up, or issued for about sacramento, down toward stockton but i suspect we will see dense fog advisory up towards sacramento and places north. and somewhere in the bay area tomorrow morning as well. there it is you can see where the dense fog advisory -- they just extended it, sacramento and vacaville you know that will bleed into the north bay if it is giving you travel problems in the morning you know who you are, be ready if it is already there we are seeing dew points and temperatures reaching the same point, which allows fog to form right now. i have fog forming in clayton, dense fog possible not just in north bay but east bay as well. aside from this chance for

that little guy fell more than 200 feet down a steep cliff he spent more than 2 months in hospital but now the boy from santa rosa is making some incredible progress in his recovery. and today, he got to meet four members of the bodega bay fire team who saved his life. >> heather holmes was there for that moment and special reunion. >> reporter: the story this picture tells is one of hope and happiness. born out of a harrowing experience. it was here at scenic bodega head november 10th where it unfolded the 4-year-old plunged down a 200-foot cliff to the rocky beach below. >> preparing yourself for the worst and it was a sense of relief to find him breathing and still alive. >> reporter: this firefighter

rappeled down the cliff to save the boy for weeks he has been checking to see how he is doing. today he got to see the progress for himself. little sebastian who suffered a head injury and multiple broken bones, was wheeled out to meet him and two other firefighterdispatcher involved in the rescue he has legs still weak he stepped from the wheelchair to greet them all. >> there they are. >> reporter: a reunion months ago no one was certain would happen. >> this is jason. >> i didn't know what you looked like. >> reporter: today a playful sebastian was smiles and inquest tiff. unphaseed by the cameras. a flood of emotions i have a 4-year-old at home just it is -- it hits home and seeing him acting like my son at home and grabbing the mic that is the stuff my kid would do, great to be able to see him doing that. >> his mom described her son's

a new year and opportunity for a new beginning for women who need a hand up to get back on track. amber lee is live in san jose where she met a woman who organizes monthly gathering for homeless women. >> reporter: we are in home first. tonight's gathering was a mood of kinship. >> donations of clothing filled a bin to be given to homeless women attending the event. >> take that one into the room. >> reporter: the room inside the shelter is dedicated to offering what is often missing in the lives of homeless women a safe place where they can regain hope and taste the sweetness of life. >> we just network, have community together, and have fun. >> reporter: eileen hunter founded the women's gathering

in different points of my life experienced being fearful of where i was going to live i hope they leave feeling a little more comfort, a little more joy, a little less scared when they walk out the door. >> reporter: before walking out the door the women were given donated clothing,. >> to get my id, get my card, look for a place to live. >> reporter: her dream is to have a permanent home and be a part of society again. >> for me, it is like having another chance in life. you feel whole again. and that is my goal. [ applause ] >> reporter: hunter tells me her goal is to be able to eventually offer transitional housing for homeless women. >> some times a second chance can make all the difference,

amber thank you. small bay area beer company dropped a lawsuit against another company. they filed a trademark infringement complaint the suit claimed sierra nevada's new label resembled their flagship ipa label. they reportedly decided to drop the suit after a backlash on social media. fda approved a surgically implanted device to help obese adults lose weight. the device is called maestro and supposed to help reduce hunger pangs blocking nerve signals from the brain to stomach in a yearlong human trial 157 people who used the device lost 8.5% more of their excess weight than people in a control room, the device maker hopes to make it available to the public this year, no word yet on the price or whether it will be covered by insurance.

police in men low park say the owner of a cleaning business cheated more than 35 customers out of hundreds of thousands of dollars. 63-year-old gary smith is the owner of menalto cleaners and accused of using his customers credit card information to over charge them investigators say between 2011 and 2014 smith stole more than $678,000. he is facing charges including fraud, identity theft and older abuse he is currently being
