actually whether or not you take bart. it could put more people on the roads as well. thank you for joining us, it is friday morning january 16th i'm pam cook. >> good morning, i'm dave clark. let's check your weather and traffic. steve paul son is right there. you still searching for fog? >> there is a lot of fog east bay. a little bit south bay. we actually have rain to the north. lake county, mendocino. in fact sent to me on twitter. sam spade says it's raining in clearlake. all right the falcon. we have a little bit of rain up toward kelseyville and a little harder than that. ukiah says rain. lake county says rain. maybe northern and sonoma county. over all though that is the pattern. it will stay in the north bay and there it is. there is not a lot here. does not look continuous. 40s on the temps or 50s. these are much higher but the fog is thick, thick again for

parts of the east bay. thanks to tom out in brentwood. fog here. i know sal has reports of discovery bay. benicia. especially on the benicia bridge. more 40s. a couple of 30s. only alamo so far. it's close for others. rain to the north. some of that will spread into northern napa county. there is just not a lot to make it from san francisco to oakland, concord south. it's clear for some to the south. it's cloudy to the north. we're kind of splitting the difference here. morning fog will be thick for some. 60s, 50s but mid to upper 60s further south you go. all right sal any new reports on fog that you have received? i haven't. one lady sent me about the brentwood area. now there is a little fog i have noticed on highway 4 just because i can see it for myself on our camera there. it's not that dense but it's certainly there. let's start off at the bay

bridge. let's get people getting into the city to let them know what their car drive looks like. people may be taking the car instead of using bart today. there has been wide notification of planned delays today. some people may use the car. san mateo bridge it looks okay if you are driving over to the peninsula. highway 101 traffic is moving along very well. i always look at the livermore valley. that is because it's one of the worse commutes in the bay. a little bit of slowing as you get into the main part of livermore. let's go back to the desk. happening today a big demonstration targeting bart service could cause major problems for commuters. protestors are commanding that bart disban its police service. tell us more about this threat. >> reporter: bart is warning riders about a major disruption. it's going to be happening down

on the platform here at the busy month golly station in san francisco. it's expected to get under way just an hour from now at 7:00 this morning. and according to a facebook page, set up by the organizer close to 500 people can take part here. the group is angry about police terrorism. among other thicks organizers are calling for charges to be dropped against 14 protestors who staged a demonstration back on black friday that blocks service at the west oakland station. organizers are also calling for the bart police force to be disbanded. they were urging demonstrators to bring with them metal spoons. that's what being posted online. it's unclear if they were there to make noise or disrupt service in one way. bart says it's prepared in any way to protect property and patrons. >> our priority is public safety. we want to make sure everyone is safe. so bart police and bart employees will be out at

montgomery street station working to keep people safe. >> reporter: and this morning's demonstration will kick off a weekend of action. several other events events are planned here throughout the martin luther king junior holiday. bart police have been preparing for this event. although protestors say if this station is blocked by police they move to another station. this gets under way in an hour from now. we'll boo b here keeping an eye on things. >> all right we will keep checking in with you. thank you. we also continue to follow developing news near paris. right now two people are being held hostage inside a post office in a suburb just north of paris. i want to show you some pictures from social media of the scene outside the building. you can see quite a big response there. according to french media reports, paris police say this appears to be a robbery gone wrong. they also say that this is not connected to last weeks terror

attack. the hostage taker is reportedly armed with a rifle. police say negotiators have made contact with them. again this is in a suburb north of paris and we will keep updating this story throughout the morning. in a few hours closing arguments are expected to begin in the trial of a bay area teacher accused of 22 counts of molestation. joseph martin took the stand for a second time. he is being retried on several charges. martin has denied doing anything wrong. yesterday he testified any time he patted a student on the head or shoulder, it was to reassure or calm that student. if convicted, he could be sentence the to life in prison. three members of the women's basketball team from solano college are facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon. on monday night she went with a friend to help settle an argument. that is when she was jumped by the three women and beaten with bats and crowbars.

the women arrested are justice robinson, and kay era. these are people she once considered close friends. >> we called each other family. and for them to just like watch me get beat and be a part of it is just a sad thing. >> reporter: school's basketball coach says in his 15 years of coaching, he has never seen such a senseless act of violence. blueford's father says his daughter is still recovering and her right eye remains swollen shut. we have new information about what will happen to candle stick park. plans to implode the stadium that appears to have been scrapped. janine de la vega is live now. you're in san francisco to say what is going on and the reason why. >> reporter: dave, candle stick park has been here for 54 years. soon it will be gone. instead of an implosion which would take a quick 30 second, it's reportedly going to be dismantled in a slower fashion.

a developer in charge of the site has decided to use a wrecking ball rather than implode the stadium. the developer was influenced by health fears and political pressure. the demolition is supposed to begin in late january and expected to take two months. developers will then build a shopping center and housing complex. a bunch of people that live here are concerned about the noise. there will still be a lot of traffic and noise. dave. all right janine, thank you. time is 6:08. the 49ers still building their coaching staff around the new head coach jim tomsula. tomsula addressed the media for the first time yesterday. he is joined by the team owner jed york. tomsula is called a tireless worker. somebody who gets along well with all the players.

he probably won't leave until his baby is born in march. mcdonalds was never arrested. the 49ers released him in december following a separate investigation. it's happened again. a baby born on highway 24. the chp posted this picture of what they are calling the miracle highway. the latest birth happened last night during the evening commute. officers say at 5:30 a couple pulled on to the shoulder of the highway near interstate 680. the mother gave birth to a healthy baby boy. and we are told mom, dad, and baby are doing just fine. that is the second birth on highway 24 in the past two days. also coming up at 6:30, they make history. talking about a santa rosa man and his mountain climbing

welcome back to the morning news. with flu cases on the rise, the centers for disease control released new numbers on the ineffectiveness of the flu vaccine this year. the current vaccine according to the cdc doesn't match the strength of the virus that is going around right now. the current flu shot is only effective 23% of the time. normally the protection rate is almost 65% of the time. despite that, the cdc still advises getting a flu shot especially anyone over the age of six months ole. in the meantime researchers are developing a universal flu shot to protect against all strains of the flu virus. >> they are looking in places

especially like southeast asia who's flu season proceeds ours and the manufactures are told about what strains they would like to see in a flu vaccine. >> and the clinical trials on the universal flu vaccine will start later this year. the number of people that caught the measles at disney land that is going up. california health officials announced 13 new cases now there are 39. the newest cases include eight from dick county. five from los angeles county. most of those patients visited disney land or disney california adventure between december 15th and december 20th. but some of them caught the illness from others who visited the park. there is a new service for people looking to fill a bridesmaid spot in their wedding. jenn glance is the founder of www.bridesmaidforhire.com. she figured she could also do it for strangers.

the car and you might want to think about that any way. let's take a look at the live pictures. the commute heroon the east shore freeway still looks as it normally does. 19 minutes is not bad as you drive through the mccarthur maze. but if you are going to the bay bridge toll plaza there is a little bit of a delay. a little busy for a friday i have to say. i think some people say i'm going to drive in because i don't know what bart did. bart may be unreliable. westbound 580 seems a little unusual. it's a little slow but not stop and go. usually we see a little red on the freeway with no major issues. now 6:18, here is steve. rain a little bit. >> where? >> windsor north. clover dale and clearlake and then there is very foggy conditions. especially toward antioch, brentwood, benicia. not as bad as some.

you can actually see across the street. now again there is some areas where it's rather thick but yesterday was a lot worse at this time. even south bay and the peninsula getting reports of fog. the thickest fog continues to be to the east and the authority. finally getting some rain. moving in northern sonoma and northern county. fort bragg had a half an inch of rain. yew chi yap reports rain. clearlake reports rain. and clover dale. and right about wicked sore north. not too heavy. one little band skirting northern sonoma county. over into northern napa county. next five day looks good for rain. ukiah north. only a few .100. 40s and 50s. much, much warmer on the lows. a little bit of a breeze that is turning more southerly in advance of that front.

on the peninsula we had a lot of 30s yesterday. today it's more to low 40s. there is our light rain. it looks like on the back edge of that these are not very strong systems unless you are going far north. for us very light rain. to the south it will billion mostly clear. 40s, 30s, up in the mountains. tahoe 43 warm degrees. so weak system today. light rain north bay. we'll get a break on saturday. it could be a mix of sun and clouds. and one more system on sunday but looks to be the same kind of a pattern staying north. mostly cloudy some morning fog. parts of the east bay, south as well starting to form. tough, tough call in these temps. 50s and 60s if you are caught in the cloud cover and rain.

closely watched in a special cell. now he asked for and has been allowed to see a clock to know when it is time for muslim prayer. the fbi worked with an informant to capture cornell who reportedly plan to attack the u.s. capitol with pipe bombs and guns. the informant brainwashed his son. a driver who's car smashed into the macy's store may not face charges because of a medical condition. six people including a 67-year- old driver needed medical treatment after the crash. one victim remains hospitalized in critical condition. the drivers family says the woman is being treated for ovarian cancer and currently under going chemotherapy. she started to feel sick while waiting for her grandson to come out of the store and became distracted. investigators say all of that information will be included will this their report on the crash. a san francisco man is trying to run seven marathons in seven days on seven continents. 31-year-old timider ban is the only american competing in the

rain north. >> about windsor north. fog to the east though. brentwood and antioch. crockett fog horns are sounding again. concord out to fairfield. a little bit toward the south bay and peninsula. the thickest seems to be toward the east bay valleys. although last time i checked no fog advisory. it's not as bad as yesterday. our rain line continues to be to the north. fort bragg has picked up a half an inch. clover dale and over toward northern napa county but not a lot. a lot of cloud cover. just a little bit of rain as it pushes off to the east. sacramento valley and the sierra. 40s on the temps. 40s and 50s. even down to gilroy. we had a lot of 30s yesterday. right around hidden valley lake. windsor up to clover dale. that is the line. south of that it's cloudy to

happening today as we've been reporting a major bart protest is planned in san francisco it could disrupt service and delay commuters during the height of the morning commute. alex savidge is in san francisco where demonstrators say they are going to block one of the busiest stations in just 30 minutes from now. alex. >> reporter: pam, good morning to you. hundreds of protestors will be packing the platform here at the montgomery station. we have seen police officers already arriving in preparation for this action that will be happening at 7:00 this morning here at the montgomery station. according to a facebook post, close to 500 people could take part. the group is angry over what it calls police terrorism. organizers are calling for charges to be dropped against 14 protestors that staged a protest on black friday that blocked service at the west

oakland station. it's unclear what they will be for. foiblely to make noise, possibly to disrupt service in some way. >> we come down here to work. we are not involved. even though we want to be involved. >> you've got to do something to attract attention to the cause. nobody pays attention unless it's disruptive. >> reporter: and this morning's demonstration is the first of several events that is being called a weekend. we may be able to see as we push down the platform there. there are bart police officers.

we will be here on the plat tomorrow and send it back to you. >> thank you. time is 6:34. in other news investigators in richmond are hoping new body cameras for police officers may provide answers in an officer involved shooting that critically injured a man. it happened at neven avenue yesterday afternoon. the officer approached the man saying he noticed something suspicious about him. the man allegedly pulled out a semi automatic handgun with an illegal extended magazine on him. >> the officer chose to defend himself by shooting the suspect. that was an absolutely split second decision. >> the suspect was also carrying a bag full of methamphetamine and several bags of marijuana. this is the first police shooting in richmond since

uniformed officers started carrying body cameras. however it's not clear at this point if there ask any footage in this case because officers are not required to have the cameras turned on at all times. new this morning secretary of state john kerry is in paris to pay respect to the victims of last weeks terror attacks. he laid wreaths at the offices of charlie hebdo and the kosher grocery store with the attacks occurred. he toured both sites with the french foreign minister. elsewhere in paris today an abandoned suitcase caused french police to evacuate a train station. officers say they are not taking any chances so they temporarily shut down the station as a precaution. police can provide -- they could not provide any further details about what they found or found anything dangerous or suspicious inside that

suitcase. and police in frank conduct a major antiterrorism raid over night. more than a dozen people have been arrested so far. it started after belgium forces shot and killed two terror suspects and wounded another. investigators moved quickly to preempt what they call a major impending attack. they uncovered a plot to target police stations and police officers patrolling the streets. several firearms, large sums of money, and gps devices were all seized during the over night police sweeps. the vatican issued a clarification this morning on comments pope francis made during a visit to the philippines. the vatican says he was not just -- when there are limits to freedom of speech. the vatican says the pope believes there is no justification to the terror attack. pope francis also surprised the world and put the spotlight on california by announcing that he plans to elevate

those rock star mountain climbers. many climbers have conquered el capitan but this week it was different. ktvu talked with the two men. they conquered the most difficult route up that sheer granite cliff and did it the hardest way. the hardest possible way free climbing up don wall. >> it was stressful up there. when you first see something this big it's a lot of tension there. and that is a great thing. it's one of the reasons we do it. >> on wednesday kevin jorgeson of santa rosa and tommy caldwell reached the summit. they used just their hands and feet with rope only to catch them if they fell. they had to deal with tiny sharp climbing holds using fingers. their fingers were literally shredded. jorgeson said he was stuck on one part of the mountain for more than a week. >> when you grabbed that last hold, you could literally feel all the hope and the desire and stress just drip off of you. and you are hanging there in

on the lookout for its drone that was stole fran a workers car. the drone is similar to the one that was shown here. it was taken sometime yesterday morning. the park department bought the drone to do aerial checks on trees and other maintenance issues. it was only tested once but grounded until the city came up with guidelines for using drones. the device cost $3,000 and at this point there are no plans to replace it. time is 6:44. new developments to tear down candle stick park. now it looks as though the 49ers old stadium won't be brought down by explosives after all. instead they almost tear it down -- instead they will tear it down peace by peace. >> reporter: an implosion would have take an quick 30 seconds but instead developers decided to take a slower route because of growing opposition. according to the chronicle, a developer that controls the site chose to use a wrecking

ball rather than implode the stadium. people in the neighborhood raised concerns about noise and toxic dust if an impletion was to happen. the developer was influenced by those health fears and political issues. developers will build a shopping center and housing complex. i mention people who live here are concerned about the noise. there will still be a lots of traffic and noise here. back to you. >> thank you. san jose leaders now are going to turn to the u.s. supreme court and their attempt to have the oakland a's move to silicon valley. that is after the ninth circuit court rejected the idea that major league baseball is rejecting trust laws by blocking that move. and the san francisco giants claim santa clara county is their turf. san jose's new mayor says the a's can't make money in oakland so if the a's can't move to the

this is a little heavier than i used to see on a friday. i've got to tell you i think some people are driving. they don't want to deal with this on bart. moving along and taking a look at the san mateo bridge same thing goes. a little busier that we have known about this patrol test for a few days and people have had time and apparently the plan is to drive far lot of people. let's move along at the san jose northbound -- southbound 85 attained chester there is a crash where a vehicle went off the road and traffic is going to be effected. and i said it wrong. i have to do it again. it is northbound 85. there is an injury accident. again northbound. let's go to steve. it's all right to be wrong once in awhile. once a week or month or something. >> i see. >> believe me on those temps it can be tough. we do have fog in the east bay.

now there is pockets of it around. not as bad as yesterday. that was really tough. but rain up in the north bay. not a lot. there is a little bit south bay and peninsula. around clear lake a couple portions. windsor and a couple sprinkles to report from santa rosa. we talked about this yesterday it looks like it would be santa rosa north. north coast looks good for rain over the next five days. ukiah as well. moistly cloudy. fog for some. rain to the north. some of the higher clouds working their way toward the south bay. they will be on the mild side. the lows are up, up, up.

a little bit of rain still around hangwin north. there is just not a lot. 43 in tahoe. not a cold system. 40s for ukiah and sacramento. a lot of cloud cover but not much in the way of rain. wac system today for us if you are watching crescent city or something. it's a stronger system. light rain north bay. that is really the southern extent of it. same song and dance by sunday. after that things look dry, dry, dry. mostly cloudy, morning fog. light rain to the north. temperatures 50s and 60s. if you're in that fog or have the rain then it's tough to get very warm. farther east about the same. been a cool couple days. but south bay warming up.

the band made several upcoming shows including appearances by too short and drew down have been canceled. meantime that concert has created legal trouble for chris brown as well. los angeles judge has revoked his probation. claiming the terms does not allow him to travel outside of los angeles county. and whether or not brown was involved in any way. boxing legend mohammed ali is expected to be released from a hospital today in time for his 73rd birthday tomorrow. ali was admitted to a hospital earlier this week for follow up care relating to a urinary tract infection. he initially was hospitalized in december and he only went home last week. ali also suffers from parkinson's disease. a dog that was stolen in tracy three years ago is now back at home.

ian and his family were reunited yesterday with their dog hannah. that is hannah right there at the oakland animal services. hannah was picked up as a stray last friday and a microchip helped shelter workers identify her. the family was thrilled to know her missing dog had been found. however it's tough to see her in such bad conditions. >> we already said we would bathe her. spoil her as much as we can. we are probably going to keep her in the house for a little bit and kind of hold on to her and play with her. but we'll see. we have to take her to the vet for sure. >> shelter workers say hannah lost a lot of her fur because of a severe flea allergy but it should grow back. but they are just happy she is back home for their oldest child's 13th birthday. one-third of them say they would rather give up sex for a year than their cell phones.
