this morning. a major demonstration about to get underway any minute at the montgomery station in san francisco. it's a protest over issues of police brutality. we'll show you what the scene likes like this morning. we're looking at the roads they appear to be having a little bit of a tougher commute because of this b.a.r.t. protest. where it's most crowded getting into the city and what the best way is to get around. >> reporter: we're live at the b.a.r.t. station where people are anticipating the protest. we'll let you know what folks have to say about that coming up. welcome to "mornings on 2." i'm tori campbell. >> i'm dave clark. it is friday, it's january 16th. >> we're following a planned protest targeting b.a.r.t.

it has the potential to be a major disruption to this morning's commute. we have team coverage. alex savidge is at the montgomery b.a.r.t. station where the protest is supposed to get underway at this hour. sal castanedo keeping an eye on how this protest could force more to drive in the city and tara moriarty is out in contra costa county from reaction from the city. steve, how does the weather look? >> not as foggy, you two. there's some areas where it's really foggy. yesterday was the day where they've had that. there's been light rain. i've had three reports. count them. three sprinkles around santa rosa. so thank you for that. rain up into mendocino county. lake county, but really not much south and i just don't think we'll see much. fog, though, pockets south bay, east bay -- south bay peninsula, favors the east bay. looks like the one band is moving through. could be light rain around

windsor north, angwin. that looks to be the line. out to the valley. this is a warm system. won't do much for the sierras. 40s on the temps. almost 50. much warmer on the lows. a little south wind helps. areas in the 30s. there are all in the 40s. to the north there will be light rain or sprinkles. there's plenty here. it's just not coming here. it's going up there which is del norte and hum belt county. fort bragg, ukiah, lake county north. i know things are getting busy with b.a.r.t. let's get right to it. we've been following this story of the planned protest. a group of demonstrators wants b.a.r.t. to disband the police force. let's go to reporter alex savidge following this developing news at the montgomery street b.a.r.t.

station platform. alex? >> reporter: hey, sal. good morning to you. we are here on the platform. a very busy station. let me show you the scene as we push in. you can probably see a number of b.a.r.t. police officers, a number of b.a.r.t. employees. they are all stationed up and down the platform just to make sure if any problems arise, they will be able to handle that situation and this is what we've seen here this morning. we also understand that the trains coming into the montgomery station this morning, they are coming in slowly. obviously that could have a trickle down effect and could cause delays down the system. a short time ago, this was the scene we saw as b.a.r.t. employees, dozens of them and b.a.r.t. police officers held a meeting here on the platform in preparation for this morning's demonstration. it is supposed to get underway at 7:00. we've not seen any action yet on the platform. this is a demonstration over issues of brutality.

protesters, about 500 are expected to be here, demanding that charges be dropped for 14 protesters who were arrested during a demonstration back on black friday. they are also calling for the b.a.r.t. police department to be disbanded as well. so they have a list of demands. 500 people are expected to stage a demonstration here on the platform at the montgomery station. one thing, they were requesting that anyone participating would bring metal spoons to this protest. it's unclear exactly what they are for. i guess we'll have to wait and see. a lot of b.a.r.t. police officers on the platform. we're getting for the demonstration to get underway. thank you, alex. we're gonna give you more traffic information. i think what we're seeing here is slightly heavier than usual, the pattern getting that san francisco. some people don't want to deal with it. this friday doesn't look like a normal friday at the bay bridge. there are more people using the

car and more people on the roads in general in the east bay where b.a.r.t. serves most clients. let's go 880 northbound and southbound. this commute is moderately heavy. no major problems heading south. if you are driving in the south bay, this crash northbound 85 at 17 is beginning to draw lookers, fire department, medics are there. it's 7:05. back to the desk. all right. thank you, sal. and of course, as we've been mexing, we're keeping a close eye on the situation regarding b.a.r.t. tara moriarty is at the walnut creek station where she has not seen many commuters this morning. tara? >> reporter: it's been kind of light. we will were getting ready to interview this guy. he had to jump on the train. we had a chance to speak to a couple people and they mentioned they were definitely concerned about the protests going on. some of them get a head start. then were able to leave the

house early. in case they ran into some traffic jams on b.a.r.t., they would be prepared. others chose obviously to stay home friday, of course, making it an extra long weekend and perhaps work from home if you are lucky enough to do that. we spoke to one woman who said she was extremely frustrated with b.a.r.t. because of the delays happening. a lot of the mechanical problems. she sort of mentioned, you know, last yeern when they had the strikes and there were delays and interruptions because of the that. wasn't too happy about what was going on today. was hoping it didn't impact her commute into san francisco. we're just gonna keep standing here and monitoring, you know, the tracks and seeing if it gets backed up at all. right now it appears to be light and things are running smoothly. back to you. >> thank you, tara. 7:06. we are following developing news in paris, where a hostage situation is now over. it began a few hours ago at a post office in the suburb north

of the city. want to show you some pictures from social media of the scene when police were negotiating with the hostage taker. french media is reporting the man has now surrendered. paris police say this appeared to be a robbery gone wrong and was not connected to last week's terror attacks. at least two people were being held hostage. no one was injured. back here at home. at 7:07, in a couple of hours from now, closing arguments are due to begin in the trial of an east bay area teacher who is accused of 22 counts of molestation. now, yesterday, 46-year-old joseph martin took the witness stand for a second time. martin is being retried on charges that he molested several male students at woodside elementary school in concord. martin denies any wrongdoing. yesterday, he testified that any time that he patted a student on the head or shoulder, it was to reasure or calm that student. if convicted, martin could be sentenced to life in prison. three members of the women's basketball team from

solano college in fairfield are facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon. delana bluefield said she went with a friend to help settle an argument and was jumped by three women and beaten with bats and crowbars. the women arrested are -- >> blueford said they were people she once considered close friends. >> called each other family and for them to watch me get beat and be part of it is just a sad thing. >> now, the school's basketball coach says in his 15 years of coaching, he's never seen such a senseless act of violence. blueford's father said his daughter is recovering and her right eye is still swollen shut. we continue to follow our top story this morning. in fact, protesters right now are just starting to gather at

now there seems to be quite a few people there. sal has just tweeted that bart says trains are not stopping at the montgomery station. commuters should use the powell for embarcadero stations instead. the goal is to shut down bart, the protesters' facebook page says, they want to get rid of the bart police department. they want to protest arrests made. there goes a bart train. they want to -- they want no arrests made for the people who held a similar protest back in november. right now, you see spoons. these protesters were told to bring spoons. they were not told why. but they are banging them on the floor trying to make some noise. as our camera is moving around we can see another train going by. and they are making more noise with the spoons, trying to raise attention to their cause. coming up in minutes we'll hear

from sal on how this protest is impacting the rest of the commute, even if you are not taking bart. you may still feel the impact of this protest. we want to go to sal right now to check in on the commute. i just got the phone with bart dispatcher. he said that the trains coming into san francisco are stopping in montgomery. the trains going out to oakland are not. but he also said that could change at any moment and my suggestion to you is just to avoid montgomery altogether, to avoid any of this and use embarcadero or powell instead. now, again, if you are coming in, trains coming into the city will stop according to bart. trains leaving san francisco for oakland will not stop at montgomery and my suggestion is just avoid the whole thing altogether. there will be a lot of people there a lot of reporters. you don't want this. use powell or embarcadero. again, i just got off the phone

with them. they say things are changing by the moment. what i'm saying right now may not be the case in ten minutes. stay with us. we'll give you the update. >> we have alex savidge on the scene right now along with our camera photojournalist and we can hear some of the protests shouting. they have signs there. they are protesting the arrests the day after thanksgiving over the protest that was held against the ferguson grand jury decision and also wanting to get rid of the bart -- the whole bart police department. we'll continue to follow this. we're trying to see what's going on. it looks like there's some bart police officers, bart security there. they held a special training session. we saw pictures of that try to make sure that service is not completely disrupted. they are not stopping in one direction at the montgomery

station and bart suggestions to stay tuned to see what happened with the rest of this situation. banging spoons on the window at the bart trains. looks like it's causing scratches there. very fluid situation there. >> so far, the bart police are showing a lot of restraint from what we've been able to see so far. they are allowing it looks like some people to get off the train if they choose to or get on. no confrontation at this point. but you can see the protesters are not damaging property on the ground or the poles and then on the walls, the glass of the bart trains. >> a lot of people were warned about this. we've noticed an increase in traffic on the road. a lot of people are choosing not to take bart and are driving instead so they are causing, you know, not a lot of heavy traffic but there are some people who don't have a choice, have to take bart and they are disrupted right now.

and we will -- we'll don't to follow this. we have a crew there and we'll have more on this coming up shortly. 7:15. continue on with other news on "mornings on 2," it's happened again, another baby born on highway 24 in contra costa county. chp is now calling it the miracle highway. the latest birth happened last night during the evening commute. officers say about 5:30 a couple pulled onto the shoulder near interstate 680 and the mother gave birth to a healthy baby boy. mom, dad and baby are doing just fine. that's the second birth just the past two days during wednesday morning's commute, they had just passed the exit in fayette when it came clear there boy wasn't going to wait. it was up to dad, a computer engineer, to deliver his son. >> ran over to the passenger seat. opened the door. started positioning her this

way. >> it was just like oh, my gosh. i can't believe this. >> it hit me. oh, my god. i can't believe i delivered my own son. that's surreal. >> about five minutes later, the three of them droesk of them trove to the hospital -- the three of them drove to the hospital. out of west palm beach, florida, police caught a teenage boy posing as a doctor. a patient alerted officials after noticing the boy in a lab coat outside an ob-gyn office. the boy said he's been a doctor for years. but the teen's mother said the boy suffers from a medical condition and has not been taking his medication. no charges will be pressed. the number of people who caught the measles at disneyland, it's going up. california health officials announced 13 new cases. now there are at least 39 cases. the newest cases include eight

from san diego county. five from los angeles county. most patients visited between december 15th and december 20th. but some of them caught the illness from other people who visited the theme parks. tesla's ceo elon musk is taking new action on his radical high-speed public transit idea. it's called the hyperloop. he says this vacuum tube like system would launch people from location to the next using pressurizing pods. he plans to build a test track for students and companies developing prototypes. it will probably be in the texas. musk has criticized high-speed rail saying it will cost ten times as much as his hyperloop plan. we want to check in with sal, as we've been following, there is a situation, protesters at bart montgomery street station. that's impactth the rest of the

commute. >> there are about 50 people on the platform at the montgomery station. some people have been arrested down there but there haven't been any people up on the streets. and so far, the system other than that delay at montgomery the system is doing well. if you are trying to get your car into the city, this friday looks like any other day. usually on fridays it's lighter but i think a lot of people have decided to drive. maybe hopefully carpool but getting into the city, not using bart. and right now there is a packup, 250, 30-minute delay -- backup, 5, 50-minute 50 -- 25, 30-minute delay. we're gonna check in with san francisco airport about delays. this is a look at san jose where 85 is slow because of an stent. 280 is a good alternate. 85 northbound is not that great. if you are looking at the dumb

dumbarton bridge -- dumbarton bridge, traffic is slow. let's go to steve who is in the weather center. >> thank you, sal. we do have some light rain to the north. not a lot but that -- yesterday, we true the line around. santa rosa, calistoga north. there's fog on the san mateo bridge. peninsula, south bay has fog. east bay still dealing with thick fog, not as bad as yesterday. it's going to be milder toward the south bay but to the north with the cloud cover it will be on the cooler side. no fog advisory that i've seen so far. but dense fog thicker to the east but yesterday was a lot worse. but there's pockets of it around crockett, benicia, be out to brentwood. cloverdale had reports of light rain, clearlake, willits and it looks like coming into the russian river heard from

raymond he's in cazadero and he said finally january rain. i know. can you send that? no, it will stay in the north bay. 40s on the temps or 50s. 0, 12 degrees warmer -- 10, 12 degrees warmer for anyone. there's still an easterly breeze. this is near livermore or san jose. that will make for a mild day. santa rosa bennett valley, a couple of reports of sprinkles or light rain. plenty of moisture to the north. not a lot to support this to the south. it does put in a .01 on sfo. that's probably overdone. a little weather humor. probably overdone. santa rosa north looks to be the cutoff. we'll get a break on saturday and then another one on sunday. after that, everything looks quiet and dry. mostly cloudy, morning fog, light rain, but a lot of cloud cover and mild temps. to the north 50s and mainly low 60s. same for the east bay because of the fog.

areas. the trains are not stopping at the station. that's obviously a security protocol for bart. i want to talk to one of the gentleman who is part of the organizing effort here. amad freeman. i believe i got that right. tell me about the issues you are trying to highlight. >> all of this is in response to a call to reclaim king's legacy of direct action. this is the pacified image. we're trying to connect the dots between police violence and economic violence. home, b.a.r.t. trains are not stopping. they go slowly. one other thing to point out, we've seen one protesters, a gentleman, taken into custody by b.a.r.t. police officers a short time ago. right after he was using his metal spoons to bang on a passing train. that's the only person we've seen taken into custody. >> thank you. we're following the traffic. it appears more people are driving because of the uncertainty on b.a.r.t. let's go to the -- let's go to the eastshore freeway first. 26 minutes. not a lot but more than fridays. i think more people are driving on a friday. we're lucky the volume of traffic is just a little less. that's helping out. the bay bridge toll plaza backed up to the macarthur maze. and those metering lights are on which again is a little bit robust for a friday but nothing

undo-able, about a 25, 30- minute drive into san francisco. no problems, by the way, as you head across the bridge itself. looking at the livermore valley, now this is what it normally looks like on a friday, it is lighter than usual. normally there is a lot of stop and go traffic here. right now it looks okay as you drive to castro valley. >> thank you. investigators in richmond are hoping new body cameras on police officers may get answers in a r police shooting case where a man was critically injured. it happened yesterday afternoon at nevin avenue and 21st street. now, police say an officer approached the man because he noticed something suspicious about him. they say at that point, the man allegedly pulled out a semi- automatic handgun that had an illegal extended magazine. that's when the police officer fired several shots. >> the officer chose to defend himself by shooting the suspect. that was an absolutely split- second decision the officer made. >> investigators say that

suspect was also carrying a bag full of methamphetamine and several bags of marijuana. this is a first police shooting in richmond since uniform police officers started wearing body cameras last week. it's not clear if there's any footage in this particular case because officers are not required to have the cameras turned on at all times. 7:37. secretary of state john kerry is in paris to pay his respects to the victims at last week's terror attacks. this morning, kerry laid wreaths at the offices of charlie hebdo and at the kosher grocery market where the attacks occurred. kerry toured both sild with the french foreign mib ster. his visit is a show of schoolly dare after the obama administration was criticized for failing to send a top government official to the unity rally last sunday. paris remains on edge. an abandoned suitcase caused french police to evacuate a train station early this

morning. officers say they are not taking any chances. so they temporarily shut town the station as a pre -- shut town the station as a precaution -- shut down the station as a precaution. and police in belgium conducted an anti-terrorism raid. more than a dozen have been arrested. it started after forces shot and killed two terror attacks and wounded another. investigators moved quickly to preempt what they call a major impending attack. they uncovered a plot to target police officers and police stations. several firearms, large sums of money and gps devices were sized during the overnight police sweep. and the vatican issued a clarification on comments pope francis made during a visit in the philippines. the vatican said he was not justifying the paris terror attacks when he announced that there are limits to freedom of speech, especially when it insubjects or ridicules someone's faith -- insults or

ridicules someone's faith. and pope francis surprised the world and put the spotlight on california by announcing he plans to elevate father serra too saint hood. he established the missions up and down the state in the mid 1700s but he's a controversial subject in california history because of the way native- americans were treated. the president of serra high school says the franciscan missionary still serves as a model for students. >> the virtue being a man of faith, wisdom and service, someone who wants to build community, those are the virtues we instill in our communities here. >> not only do we know for sure that violence was used systematically through the missions in california, we know that it was part of the program. >> the ceremony could -- to

take him a state will be held this fall. there's speculation the pope could visit carmel. he lived at the mission and that's where he is buried. back to developing news on the protests at san francisco's montgomery street station affecting the morning commute on b.a.r.t. trains are not stopping at that b.a.r.t. station right now. we're getting word that the embarcadero station is now closed. ktvu has reporters all over the bay area. janine de la vega is live in daly city. what's the situation there? >> reporter: we got here about twient minutes ago. i came down to the platform. it seems as if it is business as usual here. i talked to a b.a.r.t. employee who said that it just honestly seems like another normal work day. as you know, no trains are stopping at the montgomery stations because of the protests there and there was an

advisory saying there might be a disruption to service. so commuters should take that into consideration. i stopped a couple of commuters to ask them, did they come here early, because they were worried about the protests. so far they said no, they are just crossing their fingers. i'm joined by remy. you are from san francisco. were you concerned about this on your way to work this morning? >> yeah. everyone is concerned. much more fvel -- a lot of people would rather keep going the normal day as if none of this had happened. but socially we are a -- we are aware of everything that's going on. >> if our -- we just find alternatives, get off at powell, get off at civic center and take public transportation. >> you think there will be a lot of buzz at work? >> there will be. it's a social issue. yesterday was martin luther

morning. dozens of demonstrators, a very noisy demonstration. you can see why it's so noisy. these are the metal spoons that we heard about as this protest materialized online. people were asked to bring metal spoons down here and they are staging a very noisy protest. they are trying to highlight issues of police brutality. a number of demonstrators have left. a man was taken into custody after he was hitting a bart train with a metal spoon. we also saw another woman, she was taken into custody by bart police and an officer said she had been blocking the train door. >> how did she block the -- >> reporter: thank you, sir. >> she was doing what everyone else was doing. >> reporter: that's what police

>> reporter: the organizers of the demonstration have said that they have some demands. among other things they want all charges dropped against 14 protesters taken into custody at a demonstration back on black friday at the west oakland b.a.r.t. station. they want those people to be cleared of all charges. they are also asking for the bart police force to be disbanded as well. this demonstration -- there was a large clear, several hundred people and a number of people have moved to the embarcadero station and now we understand a large protest is staging a demonstration at the powell street. protesters are on the move and again disrupting bart service. >> reporter: we're here at the walnut creek bart station where don't seem to be any delays. that's the good news. we spoke to several people who said when they found out about

the protests earlier this week, it did make them apprehensive about traveling into the city this morning. they have a lot of friend and family who did opt to stay home, work from home. of course that wasn't an option for everyone. we have noticed the commute crowd is light than it normally is. but many folks say staying at home was not an option. they had to get to work today, make money, pay rent. for them this protest is frustrating because it directly impacts them. >> i understand people are unhappy but you catch more flies with honey than with vinegar. i'm feeling more vinegar than honey. >> reporter: some riders have mobile devices to keep them busy in case of delays. that service is spotty. at the top of the platform, there are not delays. fridays is light, a lot of people choose to stay home or not go to work. we're not seeing too much of an

becomes available. 8:0. in other news nay city leaders say they are now turning to the u.s. supreme court in another attempt to have the oakland as moved to silicon valley. this is after the 9th circuit court of appeals rejected the claim that major league baseball is violating antitrust laws by blocking the move. this is the only industry with an exemption from anti-trust laws and the giants claim santa clara county is their turf. the new mayor says the as can't make money in oakland. if the as can't move to the south bay, they will go some place else. >> inestably, the as will find a city where they will make money. it's not oakland. if it's not san jose, it's more likely gonna be austin or raleigh or las vegas. oakland mayor libby schaaf applauds 9th circuit decision.

bridge today and that is correlated with today's b.a.r.t. protests. i think a lot of people -- this is just me thinking here, a lot of people didn't want to deal with what's going on today and getting into the city using bart with the stations being closed and all of that. more people are using the car today. that means more people will be getting away on friday afternoon on the friday commute out of the city as well. so keep that in mind. this is a look at 880 northbound and southbound, this traffic is moderate. one of the things we've noticed. i want to look at the maps here and look at the bay area map. the slowest traffic right now in the bay area seems to be from oakland to san francisco or here on the peninsula. northbound 208 getting into san francisco. it's centered around san francisco and really i think that correlates with people taking the car into the city and not using b.a.r.t. let's go to steve in the weather center. >> we do have some rain to the north. lake county, mendocino county, better bet than, say, northern sonoma or napa county. south of that, i doubt there's

much of that at all. we do get the clouds. san jose will be mostly cloudy and mild. in fact, a little bit of a southerly breeze there in advance of the system. mid- to upper 60s. also out to the east bay valleys but parts of the peninsula and the south bay. but the thickest has been -- still pockets of it thick. pretty good rain up in lake county. that's continuing. other areas, mendocino county, about .30 to 1.50. around the russian river, some reports. calistoga. this is pretty light. 40s on the temps. half moon bay, sfo, san francisco in there. but farther north you will get light rain. south of that i doubt very much. maybe petaluma again over to about yountville. but anything south of that looks to be pretty weak. the system is dragging across. it will give us a lot of cloud cover and not much else. stormtracker jeep continues to stay to the north -- jet stream continues to stay to the north.

8:24. the number of people who contracted the measles at disneyland keeps going up. california health officials have announced 13 new cases bringing the total number of illnesses to 39. the newest cases include eight from san diego county and five from los angeles county. most of the patients visited

warning people about the protests since the trains have been running straight through. people might have to walk a couple of blocks, if thats that was your -- if that's your stop. some supportive. some not. >> i usually get off on embarcadero. my husband just called me and said that station is closed. i will probably get off on montgomery. >> if you have something to say, speak up. do it in a very peaceful way, it doesn't get your point across if you are just fighting people or you are hurting -- or there's violence involved. be peaceful. people will hear you. but do as much as you can positively. >> reporter: the majority of the people we did speak to say it's frustrating to deal with the possibility of a disruption in service and possibly being late to work. but again, so far, it doesn't seem that these people coming from peer to daly city heading into the city, that they won't be affected too much unless montgomery is going to be your stop or not. people might have to walk.

becomes available. 8:36. investigators in richmond are hoping new body cameras can provide more answers in a police shooting that critically injured a man. the shooting happened at nevin and 21st street yesterday afternoon. police say the officer approached the man because he noticed something suspicious about him. they say at that point, the man pull out automatic semi- automatic handgun with an illegal extended magazine. that's when the officer fired several shots. >> the officer chose to defend himself by shooting the suspect and that was an absolutely split-second decision the officer made. >> investigators say the suspect was also carrying a bag full of methamphetamine and several bags of marijuana. this is the first police shooting in richmond since unarmed officers began wearing body cameras last week. however, it is still unclear if there's footage in this case because officers are not required to have the cam rahns turned on at -- cameras turned on at all times.

leaders in san jose say they are now gonna turn to the u.s. supreme court in their attempt to have the oakland as move to the silicon valley. this is after the 9th circuit court rejected the claim that mlb is violating anti-trust laws by blocking the move. mlb is the only extelltion from those laws and the -- exemption from those laws. san jose's new mayor says the as can't make money in oakland. if the as can't move to the south bay, the team will probably go some place else. >> inestably, the as -- inevably, the as will find a city where it can make money. it's not oakland. >> meantime, oakland mayor libby schaaf applaud the decision and says oakland is committed to keeping the as in oakland. we may know before the end of the year if the supreme court will hear san jose's case.

candlestick park developers have confirmed to ktvu that they will tear down candlestick park with a wrecking ball rather than blowing the stadium up. the developers decided on the wrecking ball after people living in the area complained about noise and the spread of toxic dust from an implosion. demolition of the 54-year-old stadium could begin as soon as later this month. candlestick would be replaced by a new shopping center and housing complex. you know that oakland restaurant week has begun officially. coming up in 15 minutes works's live here and i -- 15 minutes, we're live here and i can smell the aroma. we'll teach you how to cook up a fab fabulous dish. good morning. we're still looking at a commute into san francisco that's very slow.

moving from station to station, protesters, the latest word we have, bart trains will not stop at the powell street station because of this protest against police use of force. within the last 90 minutes, dozens of demonstrate -- dozens of demonstrators banging spoons. the protesters want charges to be dropped against 14 people who have been arrested at the west oakland bart station, among other things. it happened during a black lives matter demonstration just before christmas. and we're getting some reaction on social media to what has been happening. we've been showing you the pictures. pam cook is in the studio now. you've been getting some

messages. >> a lot of people are speaking out. they are frustrated. some people are supporting the protests. others are just sharing their information about how it is affecting them today. we wanted to share some of those with you. this is from michael hernandez. he says it's a shame the b.a.r.t. police do nothing about these protests. freedom of speech is fine. but blocking trains, how is that helping the cause? i'm seening a lot of -- i'm receiving a lot of tweets about this. why are they getting the protesters on the platform. they are also trying to allow people who need to use b.a.r.t. to get in and out of the train. that's part of that issue. people are frustrated about that. lisa sent us this, at least the protest is encouraging people to walk. mass of folks on market headed for montgomery, embarcadero. you can see here, here is a picture she sent us of a lot of people sending down them. some of them protesters, some of them deciding to walk to get to where they need to go today. and the question is not whether
