good evening. hello. i am gasia mikalian. >> and i am frank somerville. >> julie haener has the night off. it happened at havey mark -- harvey park. ktvu's janna k is on the -- jana katsuyama is on the scene. what are police telling you? >> reporter: right now they are saying they are going through this neighborhood trying to find winds to this shooting. -- witnesses to this shooting. it happened here at harvey park. on the far side of the park with the yellow tape there are flood lights, that is where the suspect fell. the suspect was pronounced dead at the scene. look at video that we have from news chopper 2 earlier in the day. you can get a sense of the area that this investigation is spanning. this is a residential neighborhood. they say that three police officers encountered the suspect here in the park and he had a knife and they said the

officers responded because a neighbor in the area had called 911. >> a resident called in to say that a male was walking down the street, he pulled a knife out. a witness said the subject had a big knife. >> reporter: and police are telling us the suspect had encountered two individuals in the area and that was also cause for concern. back here live you can see that they have all of this blocked off because they are looking for evidence that might be here in the park still. i got new information from the police spokesperson, she tells me the last time they had an officer involved shooting here in fremont was in june 2013 and before that 2012. they are going to be taking a lot of care to interview those police officers involved. the officers have been put on

leave right now. three officers who responded, one suspect who they say had a knife and that suspect is now dead here. we will stay on the scene and get more information and talk to witnesses, and bring that to you for the 10:00 p.m. news. >> was he shot with a taser first before being shot with a gun? i guess she wasn't hear us. we are learning more about one of the victims in a deadly shooting in oakland this afternoon at noon. two schools were placed on lock down while police searched for the suspects in the area. police say a man and a woman were shot and killed. the family of the female victim identified her as a 19-year- old. she was with her boyfriend at the time of the shooting and he was also killed. she was killed near her home. she was working at ups store and just started community

college. police haven't released information about the suspect. from b.a.r.t. to federal buildings to a city hall. it was a day of protests around the bay area. protesters prevented b.a.r.t. trains from stopping in downtown san francisco during the morning commute. there were three separate protests in oakland alone. ktvu's paul chambers is live in oakland where there were tense moments. >> there were three separate ones. one at city hall, the federal building and that courthouse. >> reporter: this was the scene that federal building in downtown oakland friday morning. activists chained themselves together arm and arm blocking the entrances. people want to draw attention

to the shooting deaths of unarmed black men at the hands of police. >> we want to turn this into a movement. that is what we are hoping that we generate. the energy and the spirit from people from different struggles to come together. >> reporter: they did this time at city hall. people wanted to interrupt the work of lynne -- of mayor libby schaaf but the protests continued to the courthouse. protesters came with several signs expressing how they feel. serving a notice of their own. >> you are required too, stop tax breaks for welty developers. -- wealthy developers. >> there was a minor altercation after a protesters grabbed a phone of a man waiting for the housing auction to start. the man had words with the

protesters. some getting up in his face. >> i am helping to stop the auction because three day notices are about to be served. that could be me. >> paul chambers in oakland. thank you. a noisy protest disrupted disrupted the b.a.r.t. commute in san francisco for two hours this morning. protesters brought spoons and banged them to make noise starting at 7:00 a.m. at the embarcadero and montgomery street stations. b.a.r.t. trains didn't stop at those stations. organizers said they wanted charges dropped against other b.a.r.t. protesters and an tend to police brutality. >> trying to connect the dots between police violence and

economic violence. >> one man was arrested as he smashed a window of a b.a.r.t. train. police are preparing for another protest next friday. new at 6:00 p.m. it has been a day of protest around the bay area and a day of frustration for people trying to get around on b.a.r.t. or get into the courthouse or city hall. are the tactics being used hindering the message? ktvu's mike mibach reports. >> reporter: the sound of the commute. today something was different. listen. he called it a protest against police brutality on communities of color. banging spoons, forcing b.a.r.t. to close stations. it is all an example of trying to reclaim dr. king's legacy of

[ indiscernible ] >> reporter: in the end does it work? when i say it, i mean it tactic that is used by protesters in trying trying to achieve their goals. the answer, depends who you ask. >> this is all just non-sense. >> reporter: commuters trying to get to work, trying to be on time, trying to be productive. some say the tactics don't work. >> shutting down freeways is not good. stopping b.a.r.t. isn't good. >> you are here for a reason, i think it is a waste of time. >> reporter: he thought it worked. >> they were effective, better to have 100 doing it 10 times a week or a thousand people at once. >> always going to be somebody inconvenienced. that is just part of the nature. >> reporter: a man with 25 years of organizing experience.

bag before dashing out. that thief got away in this white two door sedan. among the items stolen two ipads, gift cards and $400 in cash. a bay area gas station manager pleaded no contest to altering scratchers. he had been doing this for months. they set up undercover purchases after a customer claimed the tickets were altered. he entered his plea yesterday. the judge reduced his centones a misdemeanor. -- sentence to a misdemeanor. jack del rio grew up here in the bay area. as a kid the raiders were his team. today jack del rio was introduced as the raiders new head coach. ktvu's scaws r is at raid --

scott reiss is at raiders headquarters. >> reporter: the raiders going back to the well with this hire. the second straight time they brought in a broncos defensive coordinator to coach their football team. jack del rio has 9 years of head coaching experience and like you said, he is also a native which would make this the perfect fit for this franchise. i asked him about coming home. >> incredible. it is -- first of all, the raider nation, the warm welcome is overwhelming and appreciate that. >> reporter: how is the second time around as a head coach different for you? >> it is a lot different. i understand what is coming on certain fronts so not as much of a world wind in terms of not being able to deal with it. still a lot to do. >> reporter: what is the first thing you say to the players?

a former pastor pleaded no contest oo charges of stocking -- to charges of stocking and arranging for someone to fire bomb his ex-girlfriend's home. the judge will plicae sentence him to 8 year -- likely sentence him to 8 years in prison. three people were arrested for the fire on january 9. two of them were staying at fellowship baptist church at the time. the same church where he was the pastor. you have three weeks to get health insurance or face penalties. california's exchange says californians have till february

feared would happen here. ktvu's tom vacar looked at the impact. >> reporter: san francisco's bay view district is a low income area. >> hospitalization rates for bay view, 4 times higher than the state average. >> reporter: two city agencies approved an application for an implosion at candlestick park, a demolition opposed by residents. >> we as a community came together. >> reporter: they complained it was illegal. >> i think they were worried the residents would find out about the implosion and -- and really oppose it the way they
