moving into arrest the protesters. an hour ago this is what it looked like. officers detained more than a dozen protesters that caused all westbound lanes to be shut down. protesters were dropped off by cars and did not walk on to the bridge. participates wanted to shut down the bridge for 28 minutes, that was to symbolize every 28 hours a black person is killed. 1600 people road the freedom train to san francisco today. the last ride after 30 years due to a lack of money. after arriving in the city they marched over the bridge to chemerate the cross of the bridge in march -- crossing of the bridge in march of 1965. speakers talked about dr. martin luther king, jr.'s struggle for equal rights and

>> reporter: today crew reconstructed the entrance of the store. 3:30 a.m. this morning they used a uhaul. that allowed the robbers to steal clothing. he was close by. >> heard the call on the radio. drove to the call. noticed the uhaul van that was northbound. >> they saw me, they saw me pull over and they took off. i tried to follow them to get the license plate number but they absolutely blew every light, stop sign. >> reporter: police were in pursuit but called it off for

danger. customers left dus appoint -- disappointed. >> we come here all the time for good quality merchandise. it is horrible that this would happen like that. >> reporter: this comes after the robbery during the holidays when a vehicle rammed stores. in the last few years there have been a number of the burglaries. >> this is a common thing that is happening now. people are using vehicles to blow through the doors of the businesses. >> i wonder if they will have to start -- which would be terrible -- putting barriers -- [ talking at the same time ] >> in europe they have a lot of barriers between the street and the stores and it is nice to not have that here. >> reporter: again, one of several burglaries in this area, done the same way. police were not working today so they could not update us on the other investigations.

world. facebook has more than 1100 job openings part of facebook's aggressive growth plan. engineers and flight test managers for facebook's drone program which is supposed to provide internet access. birds have been showing up on the eastern shores of san francisco bay covered in a sticky goo. now volunteers are trying to get as many birds out of the water as they can to help nurse them back to health. ktvu's noelle walker joins us now live at the marina. do they know how many birds have been contaminated? >> reporter: yesterday there were about 100 birds. today there are about 8 more birds -- 80 more birds found

alive. they need 100 trained people to respond to emergencies like this. today they had about 12. >> reporter: there are visitors at the san francisco bay shores who are stalking wildlife, not to kill them but to save them. >> since friday birds on the eastern side of the bay are showing up covered in a sticky goo. >> they start losing weight. they are not feeding. trying to keep warm. i can feel their bones. >> reporter: a mystery emergency with volunteers on the front lines. >> out here, this is where the rescue begins. we need more trained volunteers. >> reporter: birds are brought to a staging area and then sent to bird rescue to be examined,

cleaned, rehabilitated and released. first they have to get here. it is arrases against time right -- it is a race against time right now. for many of these birds, tomorrow will be too late. the volunteers feel like today is a tipple point. they suspect tomorrow they will find more dead birds than alive and tomorrow the lab is expected to start doing necropsies to figure out what is killing them so investigators can figure out where it came from. >> noelle walker live, thank you. a series of fires all deliberately set, one even burned a home and now police are on the hunt. the investigation investigators have to -- the question
