the last half-hour. visibility has improved in your area, that could be temporary so expect very thick fog getting into parts of the east bay and north bay. that darker shade of gray stretches from i-80 to the central valley. most of the bay,th around the bay, the peninsula and the east bay are looking fairly well and we have partly cloudy skies in areas around oakland and sfo and fair skies above that fog, temperatures a lot chillier for some. napa you were two degrees above freezing, i want to talk to half moon bay. 54 degrees at half moon bay, one of the only spots in the 50s this morning. half moon bay reporting and it's helping to stir the cold air and keep it from settling in. temperatures for the afternoon today, low to mid-60s in the forecast, we have a big warmup on the horizon for the weekend. i'll have that coming up.

sal? >> good morning. we're looking at the conditions that are getting heavier. this is the start of the compete of the commute. it will be this way for a little bit here at the toll plaza, a 25 minute drive getting into van. we're looking at the commute at the san mateo bridge. there's no major problems heading out to the high wise. the fog is to the an issue as it is in the last few days. 580 westbound, we have a couple of crashes with 580 on greenville. it gets better by the time you reach dublin. it's 6:03, let's go back to the desk. all lanes on 101 at san francisco international airport are open. it's after two people were sent to the hospital with severe injuries. alex savage is near the crash scene and the two men were hit by another car? >> reporter: yes, good morning to you. those two victims had been riding in a suv that had just

crashed and it was stuck in the middle of the lanes of the freeway earlier this morning. they were trying to get to the safety and that's when a chp, another car drove up and slammed into those two young men. they were both in their early 20s, they were outside of that disabled suv. both victims were sent flying through the air and they were rushed to the hospital with critical injuries. it happened on highway 101 at 2:30 this morning, southbound just north of the broadway exit. this began when the victim's suv lost control and hit a guard rail and came to rest in the middle of the freeway. in this particular investigation, the chp says it's best to stay inside of your car. >> absolutely, that's your only protection. so, you have a better chance at surviving a collision if you're inside of a vehicle as opposed to standing outside of your car. now, the driver of the honda accord that struck those two

young men had minor injuries, investigators were out here gathering evidence at the scene trying to figure out what caused the crash. it it is not appear that alcohol played a role according to a chp officer that i spoke with. they will look at whether feed was a factor as well. all traffic is open to commuters now. >> that's the good news. a freeway in contra costa county was shut down for several hours after a shooting. the police found a car with more than a dozen bullet holes in it near the hospital on south main street. that's linked to a shooting between port chicago highway and willow pass road. one person from that car came to the emergency room. they're not releasing much information other than that. but, we're going to bring you more details as soon as they come into the newsroom. >> our time is 6:05, first it

was mold and now san francisco firefighters on treasure island are saying they're dealing with other health hazards, rats and rat mites. you've obtained an terrible department memo detailing some of these conditions. tara? >> reporter: rat mites are similar to bed bugs. they leave itchy bumps on the skin and they've been getting biten for weeks. ktvu have obtained the exclusive internal memos from the department here. they showed that training facility where firefighters have been living temporarily since spring is infested with rats and rat mites. they've complained to be the administration for weeks. the chief says a pest inspector came to the training facility

where crews came to recover sticky traps that have shown a infestation of rat mites. the inspector located entry points at the vents and they are going to the attic spaces to see if there are nests that need to be eradicated. last month they had black mold and they had to deal with everything associatedded with that. and the mites have been discovered, they are advised to shower and change their clothes and wash them as they can travel to their homes. there is no proof of a infestation. they spoke to officials, they can't determine if they came from a rat mite as they have no proof of rats. 6 people were infected. there is no evidence that rat

have a peaceful passing. >> brittany maynard gained attention when she discussed her terminal cancer. she ended her life by taking a combination of prescription drugs in oregon. she moved to portland, oregon to take advantage of the death with dignity act. the california proposal is modeled after that law. >> that's the reason for this push, to make this into a law because it's the promise that i made to brittany. >> the husband, say, said he's in mourning for the loss of his wife. he believes that it will help terminally ill patients and their family. it would apply to patients with less than six months to live. some patients may feel pressured to end their lives if doctors are i how wide to prescribe fatal medication.

>> governor jerry brown will be at the california regents meeting and the governor is president of the board of regents. they're expected to propose creating a committee of two. they'll meet to decide if the uc system needs more state funding and how much they would need to avoid a tuition hike. the two of them have clashed over uc funding. two bay area community colleges are on a list of schools of a new pilot programs offering four-year degrees. there are 15 schools that will be able to offer 4 year degrees. the dental hygiene program, and the cost of schools will be much lower than a traditional four-year college. >> once i see them $40,000 to $60,000 a year.

at a kosher supermarket. 3,000 people in france have jihadist ties and will have to be watched closely. there are counter terrorism agents that will give more weapons to the miss. a vigil will be held for richard livingston and his girlfriend alexis randolph were shot and killed on 10th avenue in oakland in the afternoon. there was a vigil in san jose and that's where she graduated last year before moving to oakland. they have not released in i information about the shooting or the motive. >> she was too young taken too soon from us. she didn't live this lifestyle. this is not how she grew up or her lifestyle. tonight's vigil for richard livingston begins on 10th avenue where the two were killed. his family says he leaves behind a one-year-old son and

five brothers and sisters. he was well liked in the community. a woman in pennsylvania now being reunited from her camera that was stolen from the bay area last year. clayton douglas bought a camera that looks like this one at a garage sale in san francisco. when he looked through the memory card, he saw dozens of vacation places from places like the grand canyon and europe. using those photos he was able to track town the owner, katie briggs. the cameras was stolen when she was in the mission district on a cross-country tour. >> i was devastated, i really didn't think i was ever going to see it again. i was using these photos to put together a cookbook, and yeah, so those photos are really important to me. >> how about that? >> miss briggs says she hasn't been able to finish that cookbook because her camera was

along your stretch on highway 101 through petaluma and novato. you'll find it through i-80, fairfield in and out of fairfield and highway 4. temperatures are cooler than where we were yesterday morning. some areas in the 30s this morning. giving you a look at the satellite in view. we have this, thick fog up and down the central valley this morning. it's still stuck and will be for the morning hours. the ridge of high pressure is not going to budge. it will strengthen as we get into the weekend. that will bring a warmup to our area. saturday, sunday and into -- friday saturday and sunday, we're looking at a warmup of temperatures. it will be similar, the second half of the week temperatures will be rising. we have 34 in napa, 37 in santa rosa, 40s along the peninsula, 48 in san jose, it's a cool one

. the recent measles outbreak traced to disney theme parks, it includes workers at disneyland and california ed a venter. three have been infected, one recovered and two are off the job. they gave immunity tests and offered vaccinations to workers after the outbreak was reported. people suspected of measles have been put on paid leave. four other states and mexico have been connected to the disney parks. there's a shortage of

traffic. thank you for the update. thank you. it's a disturbing and chilling discovery. it involves dead animals left near vegan restaurants. brian is outside one of the restaurants in berkeley. >> it's chilling indeed. we're in front of a mexican vegan restaurant here in berkeley. a real boars' head carcass was found in front of the restaurant and on shattuck there was another boars' head also. we spoke with another woman who said at 9:00 on monday morning she and a friend were walking to the grocery store had they noticed the boars' head on top of a trash can. she had to do a double talk to make sure there want a fake one. there was another one in front of herbivore vegan restaurant.

that boars' head was mason be top of a news stand. they are wondering whether these restaurants were targeted or it was a prank. >> it was disgusting, it was disgusting, it wasn't dripping blood or anything like that. but, i mean my first thought was, this has to be fake, this has to be a costume or something, but if you -- when you looked at it, you could tell it was real. >> reporter: police may have a lead in this case. next door to this restaurant is a liquor store. we spoke with the owner, surveillance video shows a man wearing gloves and blue jeans leaving the boars' head in front of the restaurant. this man was driving a white pickup truck. we'll take it back outlive and police are investigating this unusual case and we'll keep in touch with them and see if there is any updates later this morning. >> we'll stay on this story.

downtown santa rosa. they tried to lift the ford explorer off the woman, but she still died there at the scene. the drivers of both vehicles were rushed to the hospital with minor injuries. they tried to get surveillance video from a nearby bank trying to determine what happened. a pastor called it a senseless act of violence, two men were shot in a mini van last night right next to his church. it happened at 10th and campbell streets. the pas to fleming said as soon as he heard what happened, he went to the scene, but all he could do was console the families. >> there's a sense of helplessness when someone so close to a place of refuge loses their life senselessly. >> one was pronounced dead at the scene and the other died shortly after the hospital. no word yet on any suspects or possible motive. >> during the night the police shut down part of highway 4.

reports of a car parked in the hospital with more than a dozen bullet holes in it may be connected to that shut down. and ease ago south bay commute, the change, the changes that highway 85, what we're getting used to. there's a crash on the shoulder now westbound highway 4 as you get to the bay point exit, this was in the lanes and you may expect them to be slowing. 40 minutes or so into the official sunrise, and we have fog for some this morning, chilly temperatures for others. we'll have a look at what you can expect for today and in the extended forecast i'm track ago warmup, more on that coming up.

. welcome back. time now is 6:45, prosecutors say at least 10 of the 68 protestors will face charges. the charges include causing a public nuisance and blocking traffic. it's not clear whether the other 58 will face charges. they located one of the cars used to drop off protestors on the bridge and that car has been pounded. stanford said it was not sanctioned by the university. the time is 6:45, the new onramp metering lights will be

turned on along highway 58 in the south bay. these lights are between interstate 280 and cupertino, starting today they'll stay green. next week you'll see them change from red to green. the on ramps in the northbound direction they'll be activated for the morning commute and the southbound lights will be turned on for the evening commute. it's been more congested because of the corporations of yahoo, facebook and google. the bill was introduced yesterday by north bay assembly mark levine. it calls for a third lane on the richmond san rafael bridge. i don't know how pam cook feels about that. that could help the evening commute congestion and

another nice day in store, we're starting out with fog for some by the afternoon. mostly sunny skies, and temperatures in the 60s, isn't it a beautiful shot there. it feeds the soul, the official sunrise 7:21, we spoke about that a while ago. it continued for today, it expected to be the final day before it begins to subside some. it will be at 11:36 this morning. that means you can expect the minor coastal flooding, it's not just for the coast but the local marsh, and slews as well. temperatures are chillier for many of us. look at those numbers coming up. the thick valley fog has reappeared in areas like napa santa rosa and the delta and the straight as well. venita and martinez and we have fog for you. you can find fog along highway

4 and the freeways getting in and out of the east bay. we have fog in the central valley, the sliver and shade of gray, outside of that we have a quiet pattern that's going to remain in place. a ridge of high pressure is going to continue and it will strengthen for the second half of the week. that will bring us a warming trend. for today, not a lot of changing it on. as we get into the second half of the weekend, upper 50ss and 60s in the forecast. 48 in san francisco, we have a ten degree difference there. it will be a little wind stirring out there. oakland reporting wind as well as half moon bay and because of it some of the temperatures there not quite as chilly as others that are very quiet and still. 63 degrees for vallejo this afternoon as well as berkeley. san francisco will go to hayward. we have 63 in san jose, low 60s in areas along los gatos.
