but, today we start off with 30s, 40s, 50s and mostly cloudy skies, a little bit of a breeze as well. most of it is showing signs of north and east. i saw a north wind near the golden gate. there will be a weak front and it's dragging across. we could have splash and dash showers to the north. i doubt much will come out of it. 54 in half moon bay. they have a breeze there. upper 30s for some and low 40s for others. these systems don't do much, they give us cloud cover. the big news continues to be the weekend where temperatures will rock it up -- rocket up ten degrees. we'll have the afternoon highs of 50s and 60s. here's it is sal. we have slow traffic. we're going to start off with

the bay bridge toll plaza and the metering lights are on and there's a 15 to 20 machine wait at the toll plaza itself. as you drive into the city there are no major problems if you're driving through. let's take a look at the commute on interstate 880. that traffic is moving along well with no major issues. as we take a look at the south bay commute, 8 will 0 as you -- 880 as you drive down there, traffic is going to be affected. there's a noninjury crash in freemont and it's relatively new, traffic is beginning to slow down a little bit as you drive down into union city. at 6:02 let's go back to the desk. >> we have new information this morning about a series of shootings last night in oakland. police tell us a total of 6 people were shot. this shows five of the

shootings. two people were shot on 88th avenue and b street. two people were hit and a fifth person was shot at 105th avenue on oakland street. a sixth shooting victim showed up at the hospital. it's unclear in the foot shooting is connected to any of the other shootings. all the victims are expected to be in stable condition. an owner of a pot club in berkeley is going to fight berkeley's decision to put him out of business. that's after the city council voted he was violating zoning laws. they're live at the 40 acres dispensary this morning and there's another reason why they want them out of here. >> city leaders say this pot club brings trash, noise and illegal drug use to the neighborhood. they say it needs to go but the pot club owner says they're

going to have to take him to court. all of this went down at the council meeting when the council voted to kick out the club. it says 40 acres disturbs the community and violates zoning laws and where it can do business. the pot club has been operating out of his home at 2009 and where the pot club can be located. >> to say they were a nuisance is really unfounded. it's untrue. >> i'm going to leave my fears aside once again. there are several neighbors, in fact, i can main many who did not come tonight because of fear of their safety and families. >> smith believes he is getting to blame for a already troubled neighborhood and he said that his fight is not over. our time is now 6:04. there are people in new jersey

who are really angry this morning. they're demanding an independent investigation after a dramatic police dash camp cam video was released after a police officer was shooting and killing a man. you may find the video you're about to see disturbing. >> get him out of the car, man, don't you move. >> now, two new jersey police officers pulled the man over for running a stop sign. this was on december 0th. one of the officers yells to his partner after he spotted a weapon, a firearm in the car. they told the passenger in the car to say inside but when he ignored the command and walked out of the car with his hands up, he was shot and killed. >> all of us that were there in the yard began screaming, why did you shoot him, why did you shoot him. >> now, both prosecutors and the new jersey attorney general are make nothing comment about the shooting. the two officers involved are

on paid leave while this incident is investigated. us justice department lawyers have decided not to bring charges against darren wilson, the officer who killed michael brown. they found no evidence to support charges against the police officer darren wilson. he left the force last year. the f.b.i. interviewed more than 200 people and analyzed evidence from the august shooting. to pursue charges, they would need to prove that he intended to violate brown's civil rights. they released this video. it showed looters break nothing this business in ferguson, missouri. they decided not to indict darren wilson in the shooting death of michael brown. they're looking for 180 people involved. the owner had to watch the looting live on the

surveillance system. his family-owned business was looted after the shooting. they're investigating claims by a ten-year-old boy. his fifth grade teacher made him take off his clothes in front of other students last week. >> she told myotic off my sweater and shoes, my shirt and my socks and right when she said to take off my socks, i said no, you're in the my mom. >> the boy says the teacher at rock creek elementary school did it to see if he was lying about stealing home work passes. he said it was embarrassing and fellow classmates laughed at him. her mother is angry and she's taking her son out of school and may sue. >> i don't think it's right what they did to him. we're spanish people and i feel discriminated. >> an alleged incident is investigated completely. we take our time to insure that we understand exactly what happened. >> the school superintendent says she's not sure how long

the investigation will take. >> the uc regents met in san francisco. they'll meet, that is, it's pitting governor brown against napalitano. governor brown says uc needs to reduce spending including administrative pay. >> we're using students as pawns in this game and we're threatening them and their parents with a tuition increase. the governor is asked to form a committee that would include just him and napilatano, the regents are expected to vote on the request today. the time is 6:08. aggressive pit bulls terrorize the neighborhood on the peninsula. what the dogs were doing and what a police officer, he was forced to take deadly action

a florida man is facing charges for tackling a man in wal-mart. this was caught in tampa on surveillance cameras. they spotted daniels getting out with a gun. he captured him and put him in a choke hold. >> i have a license, i have a license. don't say nothing to me. wait until the sheriff gets here. >> the store security detained both men until police arrived after confirming daniels had a permit. foster was arrested and charged with battery. if you see someone with a gun, call 911 or alert security before taking matters in your own hands. >> on a lighter note, san jose sharks fans were treated to hockey and heavy metal.

metallica in my car. >> as a matter of fact, i may it on days when i'm feeling sleepy, it wakes me right up. >> crank it up. good morning everybody. the traffic is moving along the bay area. there are no members on the bay bridge, there's a little backup as usual. 15 to 20 minutes, nothing major, it's moving along nicely into san francisco. moving along to interstate 880 north and south in font of the coliseum. the southbound traffic is going to be moderate. there's been a couple of minor crashes on 880 south, you can see slow traffic there, after that it looks okay into the south bay. we've had a couple of incidents here and this, and for the most part we're okay for this thursday morning. 6:16, let's did to the weather center and let's go to steve. >> we're on mostly cloudy skies

offshore beach, hayward, this system has no chance, it will fall apart and drag across a lot of high clouds. generally high clouds in the morning and we'll go mostly sunny in the afternoon. the temperatures are not changing too much. they will starting tomorrow though as we begin to get high pressure building in and temperatures will be unseasonably warm. on saturday and sun some of the forecasted highs for saturday 77 to 80 degrees near santa cruz, a lot of upper 60s and low 70s, we'll focus our attention on tuesday. coming up from the south, a low will form all the way down and it will drag a lot of high clouds up here and a possibility of rain and not until tuesday or wednesday. it would be rather ironic, that's the only rain we got in january came up from baha. clouds heavy and morning fog, 60s on the temps, they haven't changed all week long. they will starting tomorrow. mostly sunny and we've got warm, very warm on the weekend.

hour ago. pg&e crews are out there right now. they're hoping to have the power back on you by 8:30 this morning. the time is 6:31, we're learning more this morning about why a san mateo police officer ran over two aggressive pit bulls with his patrol car leaving one of the dogs dead. we're joined live, now, to tell us more about the series of attacks that left a neighborhood out there on edge. >> reporter: good morning. police officers had trouble core allege two pit bulls. they -- corraling two pit bulls. the dogs were heading right towards the academy. it's a private school you see here. there were students here at the time. that's when one officer used

his patrol car to strike one of those pit bulls. one dog was killed instantly and the second was injured and taken into custody by animal control. san mateo police got calls for those dogs on the loose 9:30 yesterday morning. they were following the dogs for sometimes. at one point the pit bulls were attacking a landscaper and he was using a leaf blower to fend off the animals. and he clawed and bit at the door of a police cruiser and a woman suffered puncture wounds on her arms and legs and she's at the hospital. the department put out a statement about what happened and they said in part we're saddened that the vicious actions of these animals forced our officers to take defense

actions for the state of the public. the owner is cooperating with investigators, we're told today and is very remorseful about what took place. >> what a story. thank you. the time is now 6:33, meantime san francisco police are investigating claims that an officer tried to dump a disabled man out of his wheelchair. here is some cellphone video of the incident, it happened in visitation valley. you're seeing what we're seeing. the officers were on regular patrol when they noticed people in a heated argument. as they talked to the people, a man rolled across the street. an officer yelled at the man for rolling over his foot. the measles outbreak that started in disneyland in and ham has sickened people and 7

have been around the bay area. there is a new warning from health officials. >> reporter: they expect more cases of measles in the coming weeks and they say the best way to prevent it is to get vaccinated and you can get those vaccines at pharmacies like cvs and walgreen's. doctors are saying as you get vaccinated as a child and an adult, and it's been a long time, you may habit risk. health officials say that now 59 confirmed cases of the measles in california, since the end of december, many of those infected visited both disneyland parks in anaheim. there are secondary cases where people got exposed after they came into contact with someone who visited the park. several people who are infected are from alameda, santa clara and san mateo counties. it starts with a fever cough and runny nose and red eyes.

it can get undiagnosed, the obvious symptoms, the rash and red eyes come later. anyone unvaccinated is at risk. adults who are vaccinated as children may consider getting a booster. we spoke to a man who is visiting disneyland soon. >> it's a question we need to ask. if we do need it we can take care of it quickly. >> 63% of the measles cases, the persons infected worth 20 years and older, doctors are urging people to get immunized. there are a growing number of children in california not being fully vaccinated and they want to prevent the spread of this disease. >> pam? thank you very scary. the family of brittany maynard are urging california lawmakers to pass a law to allow physician assisted suicide. she moved to oregon so she could end her life with the

death with dignity law. she had brain cancer. >> californiaians you have the opportunity and the right to bring this option to this state. >> now, she graduated from uc berkeley and lived in the bay area before making the decision to move to oregon following her terminal diagnosis. the death with dignity allow people to take their own lives with the help of doctors. >> she knew she would face a horrific death. >> two senators introduced the bill the end of life option act. opponents of the bill said they they feel pressured to end their lives, and there are specific safeguards, that includes two physicians to diagnose a terminal disease before a patient can receive a life ending prescription. >> happening today volunteers in san mateo county will spend

the morning looking for and counting homeless people. the county takes a homeless census every two years. they'll be looking for individuals, families, who may be living in cars, people who are living on the streets or set up camps or on benches like this. it's to help the county to provide services for the homeless. the county will be released in may. the number of sick and dying birds is rising after they investigate the missing substance that is to blame. they're scooping up birds covered in that gray substance. they're being taken to a wildlife center to be cleaned up and released back into the water. testing by fish and game has ruled out synthetic rubber as the cause. >> i know it's frustrating why we can't identify the substance, it's important we're right and not that we are fast. the most recent numbers

from fish and game 318 birds are contaminated, 200 have died and those numbers are expected to rise. you heard steve, it's 6:38. it's going to get hot in the bay area. you may be planning to head to the beach. but, be careful if you do, the high surf advisory goes into effect tonight along the bay area coast line. powerful big waves up to 10 to 15 feet are expected, that means there's a greater risk of people getting swept away. the national weather service advises anyone heading to the beach stay back from the water this weekend. that advisory is in effect until sunday morning. a fifth grader says a teacher made him take off his clothes in front of other students. >> they're staring at me and then after the other kids were laughing. >> coming up in 20 minutes, the reason the teacher did it and what his mom and the school are doing about it. coming up networks, would you believe cellphone service

. welcome back, time now 6:42, e-bay making plans to get 2400 jobs. they're going to layoff 7% of the entire work force. the cuts will happen before the end of march, it's unclear how many jobs will be eliminated in the bay area and which workers will be affected. all the uncertainty leaves them concerns for their futures. >> i think that with any outfit, it's difficult to process at times. >> they haven't said much about it yet. we got the news today. i'm not sure. >> no one has been told yet, no one has said who is affected yet. >> e-bay is making the move as it spins off the paypal division in a separate company from its e-bay marketplace

business. it's separating its enterprise unit into a stand alone company. american express will eliminate more than 4,000 jobs this year, that's 6% of its work force. american express says the jobs will include the u.s. and international operations, it was not specific about which divisions will be affected. they plan to hire new workers later this year. >> google may be getting into the business of cellphone service. there are reports that google will start selling mobile phone plans directly to customers. they'll use t mobile and sprint networks, and discounted data rates. that will put pressure on other major carriers to better dealers and services. more affordable plans can be more people online and that's been the objective for a long time. >> a message was tweeted yesterday, he wrote thrilled to

under investigation. >> back here at home it's been more than two months since a little boy plunged 200 feet down a cliff. this morning he's back home. four-year-old sebastian johnson was released from the hospital in oakland. last week he had this tearful and emotional reunion with the firefighters, he was hiking with his family in november when he fell down that cliff and broke several bones and suffered a serious head injury. his hospital time is to the over yet. he'll need to have more surgery. in june they have to take out a tracheal tube that's helping him protestor and his fractured leg is still healing. house republicans dropped a controversial abortion bill one day before the legalization of

abortion. it would some woman argued that it took unfair pressure on victims that suffered. they expressed concerns that the law could threaten the party's efforts to reach out to women in april. they're going to bar tax funding for abortions which is largely in place. they're hoping to ban e- cigarettes on trains. the transit board will review a proposal prohibiting their use. they'll consider developing a art policy. they're looking to add artwork from the community to make them look more modern and to celebrate different cultures. time is 6:54 we're learning more about a proposal to add an extra traffic lane to the bridge. the plan would be to convert the current 12-foot shoulder on the lower eastbound deck on to a third lane of traffic.
