biggest winning streak. good afternoon. i'm tori campbell. they were known as the gypsy hill murders. it stunned the bay area decades ago. they say they have a suspect in custody for two of those. we are live where a news conference just wrapped up. good afternoon, sal. >> reporter: good afternoon. they were on hand to announce the charges in a case that happened 39 years ago, almost 40 years ago. charges in the gypsy hall murders where six women and possibly more were killed. charges were announced this morning. today 66-year-old rodney hallbar will be in court to face charges on two of the murders. hallbar has been in prison in oregon and recently a sample of his dna was taken. these two pictures show what he looked like at the time of the

murder and what he looks like hod. law enforcement remembers how it had some living in fear. >> it shocked our county and lead to many years of investigations, task forces and efforts to bring the brutal killer to justice. >> reporter: the victims were six northern california women. two of them are the deaths that are being officially charged to harbaugh today in court. it is possible that he could be charged with more at a later date. they are not saying if harbaugh at mitt -- admitted to the crimes. >> in 1976 california was in between the penalty pages where it was declared

unconstitutional and it was not reenacted until 1977. anybody who committed any murders such as we have occurring there during the 1976 time frame cannot be charged with today the penalty of death. >> reporter: and the district attorney went onto thank all of the police agency involved. there were a lot of them, almost all of the san mateo county agencies. he thanked them all. he said this cold case would not have been possible if it were not for the latest dna technology. sal castaneda, ktvu channel 2 news. >> thank you. we learned a man was arrested this morning for a recent in the castro district. she identified as david munoz diaz. he is not charged in three other fires.

he is familiar to law enforcement. he was released from jail last september. he was convicted of involuntary manslaughter in the choking death of a man whose burned body was found in 2011. at the time his public defender called it a terrible accident that happened. >> reporter: a police officer tried to dump a disabled man out of his wheelchair. this was on sunday afternoon. police say the officers were on regular patrol and saw a heated argument. as officers talked to the people the man in the wheelchair rolled across the street. an officer can be heard yelling at the man for rolling over his foot. investigating a shooting after a man was found dead after 6:00 sitting inside a

white lexus sedan parked ton 13 -- on the 1300 block of camila drive. he was shot several times and announced debt at the scene. is suspect was seen running down camilia drive. the motive for the shooting is not known. state health officials expanding their warning about an outbreak of measles linked to disney land. nearly a dozen people in the bay area are now infected. doctors tell us even some adults who have been vaccinated could be at risk. >> reporter: she has been fighting the flu, cough, fever and runny nose are symptoms of the measles. rash and red eyes are symptoms. >> i got scared. >> reporter: they say there are now 59 confirmed cases of

measles in california. the majority of them stem from initially being exposed at disney land. there are some cases where people were infected because they caught it from people who have been there. doctors say they expect to see more cases of measles in the coming weeks. they say the best way to protect yourself is to get vaccinated. you can get shots at pharmacies like cvs. >> folk here in the bay area travel a lot. they come back and may be bringing back measles. it's very important to protect against that. >> reporter: most of the people were unvaccinated but there were some who received the vaccine. how is that possible? they say in the 60s and 70s one shot was given. >> for 5% it doesn't work. these days children get two measles vaccines. when you get the second it increases the people of percentage to 99%.

>> reporter: health officials suggest a second wooster shot for those who only received one shot. you can also have your doctor do a test to see if you're immune. ktvu channel 2 news. patriots head coach billichick says he did not order anyone to deflate footballs. he held the first conference since the patriots were accused of using under inflated balls on sunday. they stipulate the footballs must be inflated between 12.5 and 13.5-pounds of air. those pounds were about 2- pounds less. billichick says he was unaware of the accusations. >> when i came in monday morning i was shocked to learn of the news reports about the footballs. i had no knowledge whatsoever of this situation until monday morning.

>> billichick says patriots are cooperating. if they determine the patriots cheated they face fines, suspension and loss of draft picks. he will fight the city's order after declared his business a public nuisance. the city council voted 7-2 to close the club. neighbors have complained about drugs being sold ton street. the owner says he is being blamed for a troubled neighborhood. >> we have to keep up the fight not even anymore just because of medical marijuana and safe access for patients but also for our own dignity. >> reporter: he says it is not in an area where marijuana businesses are allowed. he said he should be grandfathered in because he

says it has been operating since 2009 before rules were written. they have finished the investigation into the death of teenager michael brown and federal prosecutors are unlikely to press charges against darren wilson. this comes as a separate justice department investigation of the ferguson police department remains open. a u.s. official confirms that the investigation into the death of ferguson teenager michael brown is now complete. last august east shooting sparked nationwide protests which escalated into riots after the grand jury declined to indict darren wilson. they say they run likely to move forward with civil rights charges against wilson. some say there's a high legal standard federal prosecutors need to meet in cases such as this one. >> what day are saying is what

they could have figured out after the first hour of this. there is evidence to bring a criminal civil rights homicide against this police officer. >> reporter: a separate investigation remains open. it's examining potential racial bias among officers which could set a precedent on how police departments are run nationwide. >> it will compromise the revolution in policing that's brought crime down for the last generation. missouri governor is encouraging people in ferguson to put months of civil unrest behind them. the governor addressing the issue on wednesday. >> the legacy of ferguson will be determined by what we do next to foster healing and hope. >> we need to have

total of six people were shot. first happened at 88th and bee street. ten minutes later three more were shot at 60th avenue and another shot at 105 avenue followed by a shooting on 15th street. police say all of the victims are believed to be in stable condition. they are trying to determine if any of the shootings are related to one another. san jose police continue to investigate a strange discovery inside a home. a full blown casino operation. officers received a call of a possible assault between a man and woman at a house on south capital avenue. everyone scattered when officers arrived. san jose police found video

games police, drugs and cash inside. eight people were arrested on charges including drug possession. no one was arrested in connection to the gambling. one dog is dead and another injured after they we are seen attacks people yesterday morning. it all started near north clermont street when a man reported being attacked by two aggressive dogs. officers arrived to see the dogs attack a landscaper and run words two well with young children. one of the officer hit both of the dogs with his patrol car. one was taken away from the animal patrol officer. this is video of the belief lower and the damage the dogs did to the officer's patrol car. a woman was also bit by the dogs on her arms and legs

before officers arrived. it is being used to teach tolerance to bay area students. >> it is on hate, tolerance, bullying, issues and of course it hits on forgiveness and reconciliation and what that means. >> we saw the mohawk. >> it tells the story a skin head who beat a homeless gay teenager. 25 years after the attack the two men met again at the museum of tolerance in l.a . where they both worked. they became friends after working through their past. they say it's a powerful message for students. >> they are use to hearing something read to them out of a book. when they hear it from the source it's totally different. people have the ability to change. we all need to look at our actions and our words and how we are treating others.

also the number of americans seeking unemployment benefits has fallen to a seasonally adjusted 307,000. taking a live look the dow is up 265, nasdaq is up 80 and the s&p is up 30. e-bay has announced plans to cut 2400 jobs. the lay offs are about 7% of the work force cuts with expected to happen by the end of march. not clear how many are in the bay area. e-bay plans to spin off the payment devision into a separate company. american express announcing plans to cut about 4000 jobs, which is about 6% of the work force. it is expected to happen here in the u.s. and abroad in the next year. they say the lay offs will be offset by hiring in other part of the company. google may be getting into the cell phone service
